Um, yeah. I've looked at frozen's starts now and don't notice any problem with them that probably wasn't fixed by maer setting up a coastal start. As long as they're reasonably close to the ones I saw on frozen's map they look fine. |

Okay, Raiel wasn't very satisfied with the starts so he worked up a "neutral zone" idea. It's really not much different so I'm hosting his picture here. He'll explain his reasoning.Neutral Zone starts |

Each team gets assigned a corner. Any province cornerward of the red lines may be selected as a valid start for your nations. This allows each team to decide if they want to crowd thier neighbors or leave a big buffer between them or try for something in between. As it's currently shown... here's the number of valid starts each team can choose between. SW - 31 (+ 7 water provs for which no one is likely to challenge R'lyeh) NW - 34 NE - 37 SE - 29 The SE should probably be extended by a couple in the north and a couple toward the center... The NE probably should lose it's two southmost options. What do you guys think? |

Province 13 also has 7 neighbours. A lot of the starts do. I deliberately choose very high connection provinces when possible. If you want a shift, that's fine. To have only 1 province between yourself and another team you both have to pick a start right on the border. Frankly, if a team wants to do that I'm fine with it because I think it's crippling to that team. Seriously, it's a crazy rich and huge map. I don't think it's terribly important but the simplicity of Raiel's idea is then I don't have to pick starts and have the other teams worry about favouritism. Each team can pick exactly the starts it wants and I'll "make it so! Number one." Now if you want terrain balancing, that's a lot of work. I'll do it, but you need to province me an exact list of provinces you want changed. Not a light task.

Mear, I deleted my post probably the same minutes you added yours :). I just decided that I'm the only one find defects, I'm not going to delay the game. So if at least someone wants any change - it would be good to do something with wastelands , as only our team have them - 56,16,17,20,28,39,10 ...actually 25% of our lands are wastelands. But you should probably decide it with Frozen. If it can be fixed fast - it would be good. If to find time for it one more week is needed :))) it's not worth it. And shifting our borders a bit east would be reasonable as well by reasons I gave, but again...There is no limit to perfection. P.S. As for 13 - it's too far from the border. |

The game is delayed for rdonj who just had surgery and isn't ready to play anyways. So please comment on the map. I put it up for comments and I'm open to changes. Raiel wasn't satisfied either so we can keep going with revisions. I suggest that for efficiency, each team just tell me the provinces they want within Raiel's zones. I'll leave which team is in which quadrant alone for now. I think it's allright. Frankly, the R'lyeh team doesn't have much choice. The SW works best I feel. And clearly Vanheim can be moved inland since I was wrong about the coastal start. If teams want some terrain adjustment for fairness I'm allright with that. However, I played a game in the SW and did very very well. The huge advantage of wastes is gem income. And a few unique summoning spells. Post your requests. It's a monster of a job to go over every province in the map editor and fix terrain. However, there is nothing much required to simply change a list of provinces. |

Though provinces 81 75 82 are located in the neutral zone, like between our potential borders, it's obvious that if team 1 will place one of capitals at 90 which will be very tempting for this team, due to terrain specific, which is quite unstrandard for borders on this map, the provinces I listed definitely will be in Team 1 influence. As team 1 has anyway more provinces then other nations in it's zone of influence, it gives them 3 more if they place a capital in 90. I would prefer either that team 1 would avoid using 90 as a place for capitals(we can draw a red line there under 115,101,93, increasing distance between our zones to 2 instead of strange 1 now). If it's impossible by any reasons, give us 41,30,15,6. In this case SE team should get more provinces on the north and NE team should get more on the west. P.S.It's a pity to hear that about rdonj. Hope he will recover soon. Did he tell any information when he would be able to play? In 1 week? 2 weeks? |

Okay, A few things lourdes. The lines don't mean a lot. It's not like they will actually determine which provinces a nation takes, they are simply an idea of how far apart to place capitals. I think making them 3 wide is fine. That's a guaranteed 3 province seperation between capitals. For now, rather than redo the graphic work, we'll go with nations must pick starts 1 province back from the line. It's the same effect. As far as the sizes go, they are somewhat the result of the terrain. Raiel did it how I would which is use the terrain boundaries. I also, at FL's request, added a mountain pass from 75 to 59 to avoid Team 1 having too much advantage from the block of the mountain and so that entire section isn't exclusively theirs. Hopefully that mitigates some of your concerns. I didn't give province 90 to any nation. Frankly, it's too close to the other team. And I had no intention of taking it. Making 90 part of the neutral zone is fine with me. I do not know how long rdonj will be. He explained that his pain medications are very strong and making it very hard to concentrate. So I guess that's something for his doctor to recommend. If I see him on IRC I'll ask. |

Okay, here's the situation. At present I am really only able to be up out of bed for 2-3 hours at most any given day, and I really can't function normally. I'm pretty weak and not really able to focus that well even when I am up and about. So I don't know how long I'm going to be out of action. I feel silly being down so long though. I'll let you know when I can spend more than a few hours out of bed every day, or if someone really wants I guess the game could start with someone taking my place. But for now I can't really do much. |
