And so falls the Bug nation. Full of Bugs as it was. And I cant say it was unexpected. Even if there were not for the huge difference in resources, they would still have fallen because of their weakness. I cant personally say that Hexapodia should even be considered MP ready at this point. They are really just bad. Lets look at the nations biggest strengths shall we? 1)They have two kinds of mediocre Sacreds recruitable in their capitol. None of them can stand up to arrows or evocations. Only available counters to this weakness are available on Enc 6 (Arrow Fend) or Alt 7 (Fog Warriors). Its not really viable. 2)Expensive Blood Mages available in the capitol. Capable of creating a decent blood economy if you have a lot of spare money. Other paths are OK. 3)Recruit everywhere, expensive, flying, communionable air mages. Can form thunderstrike communions or cast confusion. Their use is somewhat limited because the nation lacks good chaff to put in front of them that do not die to a stiff breeze. All these things combined would not have rescued you if you had equal research and resources as me. My mages would have blasted your troops faster than you could have blasted mine. And I dont see how Hex lategame would look like other than their mediocre Blood economy. The national summons are weak and the corrupted drones are, well, buggy. Add to this the weaknesses of having a terrible starting fort with less gem income than other MA nations. It also have a capitol site that horrormarks units. Anyway, good game Stagger. And to quote the Pet Shop Boys (from memory): "People say its fabulous that you're still around today. You both made such a little go a very long way." |

Well, I enjoyed my test run with MA Hexapoda, short as it was. I thought veil guards with their magic weapons and high defense would be great with W9S8 and they were easy to expand with. With snails or their other sheilded regular troops as arrow catchers, they had no problems. Until Ashdod invaded on turn 8, I think. I don't remember his bless, but it was solid, and my veil guards were hard-pressed, but generally better than Sheshai. Losses were too heavy, though, and I kicked myself many times for not going S9. As hard as they were to hit, one hit from a Sheshai was death for a veil guard. I don't remember seeing any wounded, simply dead or alive. Twist fate would have hugely improved their survivability. Unfortunately, my losses required an all hands commitment to stopping Ashdod, and research suffered (as well as site searching). Hexapodans make Agarthans look like Robin Hood. Base precision of 5 or 6 makes targeted spells problematic, and ranged troops have short range, weak AoE effects that are as likely to hurt friendlies due to only 25% res. In my battle with Ulm for the Ashdod capital, I scripted everything wrong, and let my sacreds get out ahead of the arrow catchers. My army was slaughtered. In my tests, equal numbers of blessed veil guards against Ulm's 24 prot troops was a costly win. Less than 1 to 1 was a loss. 2 to 1 was a clean win. I thought I had around 1.5 to1 with lots of other stuff to keep them occupied. My other idea was corrupt drones, which have a minimal attack value but add horror mark, and hellpower for my mage mantids. But the drones have to get through the protection, and Ulm was a poor test subject for this. I had really wanted to see the doom mantids in action, and was only using veil guards for early game, so I didn't have the high dominion I needed to rebuild them quickly. Now that the sacred mantids are recruit anywhere, they might make a better bless chassis. They might also benefit from a national improved version of slime. And maybe one of the national troops could spit acid instead of poison? Anyway, fun game. And I don't think it was hopeless, you just outplayed me. Good luck!

I wouldn't mind. What are other people's thoughts? Anyone object to a move to 48 hour turns? |

Mictlan is going AI. Player has not internet access for the rest of the week, and the country looks fairly marginal at this stage TBH. |

Yeah he is almost dead. One army left. I'm also fine with an 48h timer. |

And Pangaea! My word, it was terrible to see - hordes of angry metal armored Aryan's murdering Satrys, raping Centaurs and pillaging Fauns! Just as well Shinuyama and I stepped in as Peace Keepers to protect Pan's capital from these evil aggressors.

I'll bump the turn to 48h after this turn. Mictlan has his turn password protected, and I haven't been able to get the pwd out of him as yet, so unfortunately he will continue to stale (although I will force host if I notice he is the one holding us up). |
