So hello. I was involved in a 2 player hotseat dom3 game on a single computer. Unfortunately, the whole drive got wiped. I used Recuva (piriform) to pull the files out, so I have some of the .2h and .trn files the game used. After a bit of checking and looking at how the files are laid out in another install of the game, it seems the game uses the .2h and .trn files to record the layout of the map/units etc, and the ftherlnd.file file for something else. Unfortunately, due to some files being unrecoverable, I don't actually have a set of .2h + .trn + ftherlnd files that have the same 'date modified'. I have a bunch of older ftherlnd files, and one set of matching .2h and .trn files and a bunch of non-matching .2h and .trn files. I put the matching .trn and .2h files into a folder that I renamed to the name of the game ('Blauburgunder_-_VJ'), made sure the map we were using (not a random map) was in the maps folder, and fired it up. It worked, but there was no 'Host' button to execute the turn... i'm guessing that's what the ftherlnd file did? However, putting a non-matching ftherlnd file in there caused the game to shit itself and CTD when attempting to load the game. Is there a fix for this? That game was really intense and exciting, and i'd like to continue it. (Aby had an explosive 30 turn first year start with an awake dragon... my knights managed a respectable 10 province showing, but got caught up in an early war with jotunheim... which was still continuing end of turn 2 (annoying to kill AI jotunspam as Ulm)... really interested to see if I could turn it around) |

Try just the latest ftherlnd file. The old .trn files are not needed, I think. Without the .2h files you will both stale. Then you should be able to continue. Maybe! This is just a theory. You do need the ftherlnd to host the game. |

Yeah, you only need a ftherlnd file. Force host it and it will generate some trn files you can play. |

Thanks, that actually helps a lot. I will now go, and attempt to restore this game. |

So, I sifted through all the unfoldered ftherlnd files I could find with recuva... and all of them are for other games/saves. What I DO have is a whole BUNCH of .trn and .2h files, and the map.... is that of any use to me whatsoever? Or is that just the orders for this turn from the game? |
