IMPORTANT: About enabling mods Due to the #copystats way of getting pretender data, CBM1.92 needs to be loaded before Cataclysm. You can see if this is done by checking the price of the pretender chassis Son of the Sun (either one of them). If it costs 0 points you're set. If not you should disable all mods, enable CBM and after that enable Cataclysm. Please write the requested nation if you want in. Also I might not recommend this for very new players due to the nature of the mod. If you know what you are getting into and still want in, I'm fine with it though. |

On the bright side, the randomness of the game has a neutralizing effect on skill level and experience, as a couple of lucky site finds can really swing the game. Also, people can't use their carefully laid out strategies against you and everyone is forced to play on the fly. |

Actually the opposite is true. You need a lot of experience. There are far more combinations of troops and magics possible. You need to know a lot of strategies to make the most of it. |

OK, a big game looks to be suddenly finishing, so I've got room for a new and interesting one. So we have to pick a nation? But aren't they all the same? Well, if I have to pick: Mr. Brown is a little too close to Mr. Shit. Mr. Pink sounds like Mr. Pussy. How 'bout if I'm Mr. Purple? That sounds good to me. I'll be Mr. Purple.

I have to concur with this not being especially new player friendly. On the one hand you have to make decisions about strategy from turn to turn based on future expectation of mage site finds + what you know about your mage sites so far. Reasoning under uncertainty definitely favors players who know more about strategy. On the other hand, you have to build a pretender knowing nothing about what your nation is going to look like in 10 turns. That's hard. General consensus in the current game seems to have been an awake SC was the way to go, but some major changes in site frequency in .93 may swing the balance to other strategies. (And not everyone who took an SC necessarily did well. 3 players eliminated already, at least two of whom had awake SC pretenders, and another 2 both with awake SC pretenders are probably getting eliminated in the not too distant future). Anyway, balancing the potential of a decent bless against additional provinces from an awake SC against magical puissance from an awake researcher (more powerful now that good mages are more common) against the ability to just have more mages by taking good scales - when you have no idea what you're going to be able to use - is hard. |
