New MA game - Rosewars

So I'm making steady progress in my war with Agartha. Ermor has decided to end his NAP with me so the two of us will clash in a couple of turns. However, to be frank I'm ready for this game to end but I don't want to just say "Sorry everyone, I'm taking my ball and going home", especially since Rejakor and Jimbo subbed in mid-game and have finally gotten their nations back in shape. I can beat Agartha. I feel confident I can beat Agartha and Ermor. I might even be able to beat Agartha, Ermor and Ashdod but that last one would take way more time and effort than I'm wanting to continue putting in. I don't mean to sound conceited or anything; this game isn't just about me and everyone should be allowed to have the game continue to be played competitively for as long as everyone is able and willing to do so, large nation or small. But after more than 50 turns and almost 5 months, I'm getting game-fatigue so I'll either need the game to end or find me a sub soon. I'm cool with either option, really. So what I'm wondering is, given this information, what you guys want to do.

Are you okay with me finding a permanent sub and walking away (heck, maybe Agartha could go AI and Admiral_Aorta could take over as Ulm) or would that be too detrimental to the game you all are playing in? I can just tell that I'm finding it more and more difficult to get my lengthy turns in on time, even with the move to a 72 hour schedule, and the primary reason for that is motivation. So I think I need to do the right thing and bow out before I start stalling or delaying turns too often. Regardless, take your time to think on it and decide; I'm good to play the next couple of turns without issue.

I'd be open to this if the others still want to fight Ulm.

Depends on how keen Rej is, TBH. I am not heavily invested in this game - happy to give fighting Ulm a whirl for the challenge, but don't expect much other than horrible, humiliating death to come from it :-D

Well, I was looking forward to fighting Ulm.

Otherwise there's no real point to continuing the game.

The delicious irony of using ulm-forged weapons to fight ulm was also part of it, I won't hesitate to admit.

Cool. Let's declare the game over. Well played Shatner, and thanks to both Shatner and the Admiral for the opportunity to play Ermor :-)

So... is that it then? Should I mark the game as completed or is this still under discussion?

I am going to delay the game by 24 hours, since I 1) will need the time to get my turn ready and 2) want to find out whether this game is still going and whether or not I should start looking for a sub.

Shatner, I'd suggest sending out a message from the llamaserver giving all players 24 hours to note on the forum if they want to dispute the result.

I'd be fine with finishing up as I am dead anyway, but if people want to fight Ulm I'll sub in for Shatner.

I'm very happy to fight you Admiral Aorta, but lets do it in the next game :-)

Alright, it's been about 23 hours since I sent out my message, and I'm about to go to bed so I am calling it. GAME OVER!

Good game everyone. Since one of the goals of this game was to test out the heavily modified nations of CBM 1.92, such as Ulm and Agartha, I will post my observations on Ulm both here and in some other, related thread.

Well, I've typed and re-typed a couple of different takes on my CBM 1.92 MA Ulm experience but all of them end up being a more verbose version of the following:

1) The research-0 battlefield-wide legions of steel spell is too much. This should be put somewhere higher up in the research tree, probably at a level comparable to other battlefield-wide buffs (such as Mass Protection at Alt. 7). Even putting it somewhere at research level-4 or 5 should be sufficient because Prot-25 troops are really hard for other nations to cope with, and crystal shields (and therefore H3 casters) are pretty easy for Ulm to come by barring terrible luck with astral income and Master Smith randoms

2) The research-0 Forge of the Ancients is right out. I would have been able to cast it by turn 14 in this game. I intentionally didn't cast it and instead waited until I researched the Construction-9 Forge of the Ancients. Most respond with "if Ulm casts their national version of the spell early, everyone should gang up on them", which is true, but the ability for nations to gang up on Ulm early in year 2 is pretty minimal, especially since 1) I was already pretty large and capable of withstanding smaller invasions, 2) there were still indies for people to concern themselves with, 3) there were already other wars being waged, and 4) even as big as I was, I only had so many neighbors and expecting them to do all the work toppling a Forge-enchanted Ulm seems unreasonable.

3) All the other changes seem fine.
