Illustrated guide to easy map modifying; Add or remove provinces fairly quick!

I had to test my program properly (and it had a major bug!) so I figured I'd also write a small example of how damn easy it is compared to normal.

So, we figure out that having two sea provinces in the space visible there is just stupid. Who the hell would make such a mapping choice anyway? What we do is just paint over the two white dots (circled with red with paint) and the border that divides the area into two with the color of water.

Obviously on some maps and places this won't be as easy, but at least with the GIMP multilayer .xcf files available for many of my maps at http://koti.kapsi.fi/elmokki/dom3/maps/maps.zip this is pretty trivial. Here I just edited a .tga too.

Now we add one 1 pixel white (255, 255, 255) dot on the middle to signify there's a province there. Of course we could've just removed only one of the two existing dots, but then the spot wouldn't have been the middle, which is where the province flag will show up at!

Here's the result

Now, loading this in the Dominions 3 built in map editor results in a tragedy. My forest moved to a sea and it's neighbours are fairly messed up too! OH GOD WILL I HAVE TO REDO ALL THE PROVINCES NOW?! The answer is now no. See the new underwater forest below first, however!

IdUpdater will do clever computer magic and figure out how Dominions 3 map editor will desecrate the map definitions based on your map edits and avoid as many of them as possible. Here's a picture of an outdated version with some debug-gibberish:

Basically you need the old map image, the new map image and the old .map file. Copy those to program directory, write their names when asked and press enter. Then you'll have a new .map file you can go edit:

As you see, no tragedy now! There are no neighbours for this new sea province yet since it's a province that didn't exist before. It would have some neighbours if we had just removed one of the two dots since then we wouldn't have added new provinces at all, but it's pretty trivial to click each neighbouring province once.
