The period being 3 hours max! That would even things out for me since I'm the fastest blitzer evah! And it would help me versus frosted and Raiel who are NOT the fastest blitzers evah! |

I initially thought these would be pbem duels. If these duels are meant more to be played over a several-hour continuous session then I should withdraw, as I will never be able to field that commitment reliably. |

PBEMs among so many people would make this endevour to last very, very long. And things would go very unpredictably and heterogeneously. Not only blitz seems to be a de facto standard for duels, but it is much more appropriate to have chances to arrange such a mess. However personally I thought it over and changed my mind to participate. Blitz is more skill-demanding. In order not to provide some pathetic picture I would need to train it before, but I'd rather learn many other things. (That doesn't mean I in any way imply that blitz is bad, just I'm not fitting it). |

Current plan is to have it be direct connect over the period of a week or two; Ideally you and whoever you're matched up with would be able to find a time where you both have free time to hammer through a bunch of turns, but even if you're just doing 3+ a day it should be enough time to finish a game more often then not; Or atleast reach the point where the victor is clear. Edit; I've bandied about the idea about allowing both PBEM and direct connect, but I don't have the free time to work on that and getting everything else up and running smoothly. Maybe if there's another tournament I'll have a system like that up and running. |

I would really like to play, but I think I had better withdraw so I am not potentially screwing up everyone else with my time limits. Thanks for hosting, Sigil |

Shame to hear that but I understand; I'll update the list on shrapnel and badger Frosted later on to deal with the one here. |

I've been slacking off in my duties. Thankfully, BT is on point! Again, sorry to hear that Sigil. I think that realistically, this has to be done via blitz style in order to keep the real life period between rounds at something manageable (as in a week or so). We're trying to work out ways to make this process as easy and simple as possible while still making sure the tourney actually finishes and someone actually wins. We would like to have PBEM be an option for those who need the flexibility in time, but again if one game ends up taking considerably longer than the rest - round times may simply be too long and I can't figure out a way around that. I'm also getting ready to put up a solidified set of final rules and harass a bunch of people to confirm their entry. |

I'm in. Primary nation TC. I would probably prefer to blitz, but that might not always be possible. Is there any reason why those players who knows how could not set the duel up themselves? PPEM or DC as long as they stick to the rules and confirms the result with turn files? For the ones that you need to set up you could have a more strict format. |

I've turned this over in my head a bunch of times. I'd like for as many options to be available as possible. But my main concern is time - for my own sanity I'd really like each of the rounds to be about a week (although I imagine extensions will happen). That means that a conventional timer of like 24 hours just isn't gonna remotely cut it. I imagine that if things are fine w/ both players and the game completes in a timely fashion - it'd be fine. Also, from the goon side at SA - they put together an interesting and helpful server for us, this server ends up sort of mixing Blitz and PBEM. I'm fine with whatever, as long as the rounds complete on fairly quickly. It should be noted that even if a game is blitz - it does not have to be completed in a single sitting (especially with BT's server and the service BrainWrinkle from SA provides) although in order for a game to be finished in a week - I imagine that both players need to be playing at the same time for at least a couple hours. |

And here I thought there was a 50 bucks admission fee. That would have been fun! If each round is estimated at about a week I'd like to participate as well. I'm quite busy over the week but not at all over the weekend, if that's alright. |

Welcome aboard. We have a fair number of newbies so far, this is actually bringing out some new faces which is a big plus. So I'll be updating the OP tonight with a finalized rule set for this and I'm going to send out a mass of PMs to run confirmations and the like. But just in case anyones interested the format currently will be as follows: This setup may change. Finalized format will go up this evening. ------------------------------------------------ THE FIRST ROUND IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN MONDAY THE 10th - MONDAY THE 17th. I will be sending out PMs to everyone who has entered to confirm. Entry will close tomorrow evening. ------------------------------------------------ PLAYER POOL Rounds: If the number of finalized entries is over 16, then there will be two initial POOL rounds. These will establish a set of players that will continue onto the single elimination rounds. SINGLE ELIMINATION - Round of 16 - Round of 8 - Semi-Finals FROSTED CUP CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH! HOW GAMES WILL WORK: BlanketThief has offered to run a dedicated server and BrainWrinkle on SA has made us a special edition of the GGS notification system that helps keep track of games. This will allow Direct Connect games, which will feel very natural in a blitz format - but can also be put on hold and resumed as time requires. This server will be up 24/7 and turns can be submitted when time permits. This will act as an intermediate between PBEM and Blitz, allowing rapid turns while both players are able to play during the same session, while also allowing turns to be submitted "off hours" if one finds time. It should be noted that long term SA Goon games are played using this kind of set up and work quite well. The notification page has been set up and features awesome music: http://www.brainwrinkle.net/tournament/ Currently there is nothing here, but we'll be setting up all the matches on this, as well as notifying all players. This will show the IP address as well as port for each player. BlanketThief has graciously offered to co-admin this tourney as well as to act as an impartial arbiter for any and all disputes. Please begin solidifying your dastardly plots and nefarious schemes. And selecting your nations. Please also PM me with your timezone and/or times that will generally work best for you. Thanks! |

Hello everyone, I am not sure that I will be able to stick to the weekly schedule proposed without asking for extensions (i.e. I will not be able to play between the 15 and the 22nd). Unless we are going to extend the allowed time for a mach to 2 weeks I have to withdraw in order to not spoil the tournament for the other participants
