The qualifier rounds are a double elimination format. Anyone who goes 2-0 or 1-1 will continue onto the ROUND OF SIXTEEN Single Elimination round.

Matches are as follows:

- Torin (Abysia) VS Meinberg (TNN)
- Ghoul31 (Neifelheim) VS Immac(ulate) (Mictlan)
- Frosted (TNN) VS Lourdes (Hinnom)
- Diabl0658 (Arcoscephale) VS Frozen Lama (Sauromatia)
- Silvano (Sauromatia) VS Fantomen (T'ien Ch'i)
- Maerlande (Arcoscephale) VS YellowCactus (Mictlan)
- Raiel (Vanheim) VS TheDemon (TNN)
- Bullock (C'tis) VS HeatExtend (Abysia)
- Danayel (Yomi) VS Warspirit (C'tis)
- SsSam (Hinnom) VS Lord Xia (TNN)
- Executor (Mictlan) VS GFSnl (Marverni)

The following matches are completed:

Lord Xia (TNN) vs SsSam (Hinnom): Hinnomian chariots took the field crushing the initial TNN expedition forces. Hinnom laid siege repeatedly, but finally calls of thunder on the fields of battle and glamoured harassment in the fields of coin turned back the hinnomian juggernaut.
Winner: Lord Xia (TNN)

Bullock (C'tis) VS HeatEXTEND (Abysia): The children of flame took the field facing the lizards of death in a battle to the finish. A tense staredown in the south convinced the Abysians to pull back their northern forces and attempt a dedicated southern push. It was then that the C'tisians launched a brutal northern assault laying waste to Abysian lands. Battle ensued but the economic bleed gave C'tis the edge.
Winner: Bullock (C'tis)

Fantoman (T'ien) vs Silvano (Sauro): A tense cold war broke out. The eastern warriors eyeing their androgynous counterparts across the mountains. The cold war went hot when hordes of poison archers laid siege. The wise men of the T'ien stroked their beards and commanded a counter attack be swift and immediate. The Warriors of the Five Elements sought wards of protection and liberated their brethren.
Winner: Fantoman (T'ien)

Torin (Abysia) vs Meinberg (TNN): Things started off hot as Abysian Burning Ones lead a trail of destruction straight into the heart of TNN proper. Fighting a desperate attempt the brave Tirean's fought with fury, but with glamour falling to the heat shield of the most feared heavy infantry in the Early Age. The flaming conclusion could not be denied.
Winner: Torin (Abysia)

Frosted (TNN) vs Lourdes (Hinnom): Terror struct the heart of the Tirean's as Hinnomian chariots rolled over the mountain peaks. An advanced force was rallied and sent to the north to stop the terrifying avalanche of giant, but it was not enough to stop the chariot horde lead by a pretenders prophet. A desperate call went out and every available Ri answered. Blood, sweat and many fetters later, the Ri stood triumphant.
Winner: Frosted (TNN)

Please note - the above game descriptions may not be exact. They were a general recap that I got from some players after the game. In general they're told from the perspective of whoever happened to give me the play by play details.

Feel free to post more details, corrections, or comments.

More Round 1 reporting will be en route as it comes!

(Obviously, please don't talk about a game while its going on - and try not to give away anything specific like the exact scales or paths).

TOURNEY NEWS UPDATE!

Maerlande (Arco) VS YellowCactus (Mict): Lord Cactus issued the call to war and the jaguar warriors of Mictlin answered. Trusting in the blessing of their would be god, they blazed a path to the city of Arcoscephale itself. There they laid siege daring the defenders to give fight. But trusting in the wiles of his womanly warriors, Lord Maer commanded his ladies to dress in their finest lingerie, adding "don't forget the coco butter". Not even the bloody intensity of a High Priest of the Sun could resist the coco butter laden pleasures within Arcoscephale's walls and two left their warriors stranded and leaderless in the heart of their enemies land.
Winner: Maerlande (Arco)

Diablo0658 (Arco) VS Frozen Llama (Sauro): Soaring high above the world of Twolands two divine beings prepared for battle. Leading the people of Sauromatia the feared (and much sought after) gorgon called upon her questionably named androphag archers, while Arcoscephale's awesome Virtue commanded her myrmidon soldiers to assemble. The foibles of these mere mortals was of little concern, as these winged terrors took to the skies to bring battle. It was there in the fields of battle that they met. The gorgon waded forward and engaged in terrible snake-hair-fu, but with battle raging around them, Arcoscephale's Virtue aimed true, piercing the gorgons heart with a brand of pure frost. Exhausted from combat she fled the field, but her bloody task was complete.
Winner: Diablo0658

Congrats to the winners, and better luck to the defeated!

+1 (I'll find the time somehow :) )

And thanks frosted. I remember when AOE went AWOL on shrapnel organizing that last tourney. I always imagined he just lost it trying to manage all the details. He disappeared and the tourney never happened.

I have only one thing to say. I was really bummed that I didn't get my big fight. Mictlan smashed my first army in the field early so I went for sneaky tricks instead. I guess it worked! Or at least he lost the will to fight. But I was all ready for a major dust up.

TOURNEY NEWS!

Immaculate (Mictlan) VS Ghoul31 (Neif): Two nations divided by temperature stood eyeing the great mountainous divide. The sweltering sun of Mictlan and the frozen winter of Neifelheim. The giants of the north arrayed themselves, "We, the Jarls of Neifelheim need not numbers!" they cried. And so they began their tireless march of aggression. They were met by a line of Mictlanian Turkeys with feathers a-flocking. Sometimes, it isn't the size of the boat that counts, its the motion of vast quantities of poultry!
Winner: Immaculate

Executor (Mictlan) VS GFSnl (Marverni): In the most controversal match of Round One, Brave Lord Executor faced an onslaught the likes of which the world had never seen. Wayward star took front and center in a devastating contest of steely tenacity vs stellar misalignment. The fighting grew in intensity with each passing month, leading to a brutal siege of the City of Marverni in the third year. But even while tearing down the fabled gates, not even the promise of "PAYBACK YOU DRUID BITCHES" could overcome empty coffers.
Winner: GFSnl

We have one match outstanding! The long awaited contest between Raiel and TheDemon.

Round Two brackets will be posted asap!

TOURNEY NEWS:

Raiel (Vanheim) VS TheDemon (TNN): What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object? Well, multiple globals, a blood based dom push, seeking arrow bombardment and a blanket of scouts checking for glamour that's what. In a war that played out as more of a chess match than a blood bath, these two titans duked it out via dominion, economics and allocation. In the end, it was the nation of Tir na nOg that found the chink in the turtles chainmail as the Van invested everything in the defense of their temples while the Sidhe circled capturing everything that wasn't nailed down. It was the weight of these inevitable economics that eventually called the shots.
Winner: TheDemon

Congrats to TheDemon! And better luck to Raiel in the next round.

Certainly an interesting strategic match, although fans of battles and action would have been very disappointed. Raiel used a very powerful and dangerous strategy, but executed it inflexibly, surrendering some of his national advantages and the initiative. This allowed me to counter in a very abnormal manner, where we didn't really fight but rather pitted our long-term strategies against each other.

Sounds like there were some great and hard-fought matches, and a big variety in the winning strategies. Also sounds like some of you are holding back your specialist strategies for future rounds.

"should only ever buff UP stuff to make it competitve with OP stuff" is a pretty bollocks idea on which to base a gameplay mod around.

I have a feeling that by the time we hit the Round of Eight, the games will look entirely different. Just a suspicion.
