Wait... did you guys nerf GFSnl because he played the metagame better than the rest? That is a bit insane.

GFNsl will be able to abuse his excellent preparation and metagaming and will likely win matches for it.

There will be no change to map pool and there will be no change to the mods used.

I'm willing to kick in a *special* minor prize for GFNsl offering to not run the immortal approach. But I think that his pick here, and his "thinking outside the box" approach to nation selection should be rewarded.

That sounds awfully like a bribe to me.

I think giving me a bigger prize should I beat GFSnl is more in order!

I'm totally willing to bribe someone to keep this thing running smoothly to its conclusion. It might not be needed but that's another story.

And Executor, given the kind of press this thing got - you beating it will be reward a plenty. Your name will go down in legend, praise and herald -- some day in the not so far future a conversation like this will occur:

"I don't think I can win this, it's completely IMBA"
"dude, just Executor that bitch"

Who could ask for anything more?

Actually I dont think so, he promised to not do something he didnt do anyway...

I've played with LA Bogarus/Man's spell 'Possession' with Olm Spawn or the Machacka's Spider Spawning spell (before insanity nerf) many times and was well aware of the possibility of taking an immortal pretender.

It's my own dicision to restict my pretender choice.

Before the Tournament I even contemplated to alert people of this spell but I thought it more fun (at least for me) to play with it.

With the restriction in not abusing Immortallity it's still a very good spell but no opponent is completly without chances and I might not even reach the finals.
Give my Mods a try:
MA: Myconos, Last of the Fungi
MA: Red Wood, Burning Forest
EA: Dystopia, Land of Luck

Oh...

and an extra prize is totally Unnecessary. [size0](Unless it's a million bucks of course)

[Maerlande] Because it was a smart idea. Soyweiser was right.

I admit. I'm a little colored by wanting this to be a fun and successful experiment ;)

That said, it is competition and if GFNsl wants to, he's welcome to run immortal wayward spam. We will not be editing the mod files, changing the default map from twolands, or modifying the start positions.

I have to agree it would be a bad idea to change the tournament rules after it has started. The only changes I would support are a new map.

Also GFSnl if you and me ever get paired up for a match feel free to take an immortal pretender.

And that's the spirit of a champion.

I'll follow diablo's lead here: sign me up for immortal wayward spam if you think its the strongest play. Let's take this thing to its most extreme.

Wasn't one change made to a "kill the caster"-spell so that it would actually kill immortals? (via transformation combined with kill or something like that?) Can't remember.

For this specific spell - it would be a good idea to add a Holy magic requirement to the spell - that way it would be uncastable by pretenders, ie immortals (excepting the odd prophet :-) )

Transformation had a chance to cause the game to crash if I recall correctly; Insanity was added to most of those spells instead. I'm guessing wayward star was just overlooked by mistake.

Just wanted to throw this in. I ran a practice game with diablo running wayward under an immortal pretender and won pretty handily.

I didn't take an oracle or any particularly hard counter, instead I opted for soft counter-play and did a pretty good job of guessing how he'd try to run marv to max it out: fort spam - so I attacked that. The said, he also had some rough luck with indies.

After the game we both concluded, "not imba". It's a powerful tool but if you think about how it affects your game and plan in advance I think you can increase your odds significantly. Just plan for being unable to recruit the way you normally would in the first few turns.

Interesting!

It's an oversight that it doesn't cause insanity on any surviving caster, like the other "Kill Self" spells. I wonder if there are any others where that was missed.

I think for the next CBM I will fix the lack-of-insanity issue and probably make the spell Alt-1, or even Alt-2 (opinions welcome as always).

That's a double edged blade. In either case you have to plan for Wayward star and Marverni doesn't have to make it a part of it's strategy. Knowing you'll face it certainly makes things much easier but you won't neccessarily face it which gives Marverni a certain strategic advantage again. ;)

That said just fixing the immortal abuse seems good enough for me.
