No, I am talking about actual distortions of the landmasses.

I remember seeing one during my high-school days, where the North America was HUGE, Europe was tinny, and south america looked like a sad appendix. Also the opposite once. Just can't find them right now.

Edit: And to think I've felt sad when my teacher slapped me for pointing wrongly where the Federal District where (tried to make fun by pointing at Buenos Aires). If Watermark is the future, we were nothing but a bunch of spoiled brats. But the future is probably Google Maps, so... fuck these kids, man. If you ask them where is the North, they would probably use the search option.

I know what you mean. I was under the impression those were just crude method and assumptions, rather than intentional assertions of importance, but I guess I shouldn't put that sort of triumphal centrism beyond the old cartographers.

Either way, though, I think the Antarcticans and Greenlanders have conspired to fool us all.

And the Belgians, trying to fool us (and themselves) in believing their country actually exists.

Hey! We Exist. Truly! We're in fact pretty cool too. Even to learning to play some decent football these days, would you imagine that...

Edited for disclaimer: I might refer to us Belgians as we, but I'm a wondeful mix of about 5 different nationalities even going back no further than 2 generations, so that might cast a certain doubt on my "we exist" theory.
Circumstances matter not, open admiration of Amhazair's noble character, martial prowess, and rakish good looks is always appropriate. - - Quantum_Mechani

Oh... poor, poor thing... don't worry, someday the proletariat will free you from the gasp of the Big Brother. Keep fighting, and never lose your hope!

Edit: I thought the "we" part was because of your hive-like collective conscience.

Here's an awesome example of something by a cartographer who didn't take his medicine:

So NOW I know what the purpose of those maps is. Flat-earthers rejoice, for ridiculous projections cometh!

More torsion, please, though. The continents are still vaguely identifiable.

Is the Antarctic some kind of ice ring/wall separating us from the rest of the world, as that in Game of Thrones?

AND STILL EXISTS A FUCKING FLAT EARTH SOCIETY?!

Edit: And I thought that Hollow Earth dudes were already nuts... Flat Earth doesn't just spite in all the scientific advances of not only the modern human society, but in it's entire history (every seafaring civilization of the ancient times knew earth was round). Shame on you, humankind! Shame on you!

yes to both of those, but there's probably like 200 members tops. Their forum rules because it's totally impossible to tell who's an actual flat earther and who's pretending to be one. My favorite is the guy who claims that penguins are genetically engineered animals that act as a food source for the government agents who guard the ice wall.

Never, ever underestimate the power of cognitive dissonance, even where there really is no painful truth to guard against.
