I'm a new Dom4 player who has casually dabbled since Dom2. Lately I've been wrestling with doing Jomon without an awake Earth Serpent. Before getting Dom4 a couple months ago I was playing Jomon on 3. The conjuration level changes for the national commanders makes it a different game. Namely, the native magic commanders don't appear until conj 5, a big step from conj 4 when ths Shura is available. Also, right now I am subbing for a late game Jomon. The pretender cannot summon a Dai Oni and before I subbed in, conversations with the vacationing player showed me how heroically expensive it is to summon a Dai Oni if your pretender cannot. Namely, one must havs FD in order to summon FD. There may be a couple exceptions for blood 8 or so, but Jomon is not a blood central nation. This is intended to be a guide in progress. I'm still practicing on SP and feel I'm about 2/3 there in my understanding. I don't have much MP experience, so I'll obviously need to learn some hard lessons there too. Quick nation summary: No shields. None. Not a single unit. You want a national recruit to have a shield? Forge one. High resource, above average, human troops. Armored long bowmen that are also an above avsrage, though not elite, melee unit. Resources second only to cavalry unit. UW rocks, but no national troops are amphibious. S2 mages with good FAWEN diversity; easy N2 and E2 mages; A2, F2, W2, E3 and N3 mages are uncommon to rare on land. Medium-high gold cost UW mages are W3X2 where X=FAEN (one of them not all four) with a 10% to get another path from those 5. Size 4 armored, amphibious shark warriors. My most recent pretender is a dormant Master Lich, F4W4D6, dom 7, turmoil 1, prod 2, heat 2, growth 1, luck 1. (I'm writing this on mobile and it is possible I'm off by ons scale. Will chsck later.) Primary pretender goal: UW fort under construction during ysar 2. Sscondary: Death access, diversity, royalty. Early expansion thoughts: Use sacred Yamabushi to clear the cap ring, then maybe switch to cavalry. Use starting archers, but use indie missiles, esp crossbows for expansion parties. Research: Initial research for pretender to go UW. Want to have access to Breath of Winter and Ice Shield. This will also get me Quicken Self. Wearing a Black Steel Full Plate, ring of poison resistance and some kind of shield will be nice too. Add Stinger if earth gems allow. Death 6 gives undying to scareds, which is kind of useless to living troops without regeneration. However, I have easy access to N2, so maybe researching the Regeneration buff and including an N2 mage for the tougher indies may be in order. This would allow site searching too. Playing with the scales I discussed let me still have excess gold early and not a satisfactory amount of gold in early-midgame. I'm going to try doing prod 1, growth 2 and see how that goes. Maybe will end up prod 2, growth 2, drain 1. |
