Probably this concept brings not much new for experienced players, still at least some strong opponents were not aware of this in my experience. Very first time I thought about this idea when some player did stupid things from point of view of standard "increase national power" game, separating armies into squads, moving these squads far ahead and giving land for free. It ended in successful throne conquer and it was wonderful to observe.

In early game both goals - dominate all opponents and to grab predefined amount of throne points - demand very similar course of actions, to survive and to make nation stronger, however on game evolution when nation expands priorities for "general winning" and "winning throne game" differ more and more and at some moment they may contradict each other: resources can be poured in general development or instead they can be wasted in a pitiful attempt to grab a throne of a loser - or smartly applied in ascension of the True Pantokrator. These are two vastly different mindsets: to stack power, to invest in future, to dominate the most dangerous rivals, step by step, slowly and inevitably - or to spend it all in a furious, elaborated and bright firework trying to end it quickly, victory or death.

There are two reasons to understand "throne mindset": to plan it and to counteract opponents who planned it. To prevent others from grabbing thrones you need to think in terms of this mindset. Main attributes of which are throne count, turn count and secrecy.

General rule of thumb is to estimate throne configuration for purpose of yourself rushing and for purpose of strongest opponents doing the same every turn.

This estimation includes:

- count turns to grab thrones required for victories;
- understand national power peaks dynamics to calculate throne ownership change;
- foresee possible counter-measures rivals can apply, think about and prepare counter-counter measures;
- hide preparations as long as it is possible;

Benefit of planning it in advance is when time comes - you are in a step ahead of opponents who didn't think about it at all. Hey, they may even not understand what's happening.

Usual tricks are:

- plan to claim all necessary thrones in the same turn or at least as quickly as it is possible;
- don't neglect to fortify forts you own (counter measure vs potential enemy throne rush);
- hide H3 priests and imbue them with mobility - read prophetize teleporting, flying sneaky creatures and empowering Pretender to let him teleport to proper magic paths;
- use "Three red seconds" or "Wizard Tower" spells to fortify conquered thrones the very next turn after they are taken;
- use sneaky troops and transportation spells to raise power concentration to attack and protect thrones.

I believe it depends in general how many risk you are willing to get, if you grab so many thrones, or claim them in a short time, you are making yourself a target, also you should consider if that throne worth the risk, throne of pestilence, death, darkness, misfortune or any other with negative effects (Depends on nation), are better left alone(at the very least leave a way to claim them if needed).

So maybe is better to hide how many thrones you have control over, it's not a good idea to get 7 points of the eight with no possibility to get the eight quickly and then losing half of them in some turns.
