Hello one and all, and welcome to the first (and hopefully last, at least by me
:P) official Frost Gamer's Diary. Yes, before you ask, I am incredibly bored and likely have no life. There will be no laughing or I will be forced to cryofy the world, and the last "people" who did so *cough*thedinosaurs*cough* aren't around to tell the tale. If you want to know why I ice age'd em, just look at Barney. I kept him around as proof as to why the world is better off without them. Now, to un-digress, without further adieu, I bring you something which may or may not last: Frost's Gamer's Diary. And yes, mods, if you think this is unworthy of posting, notify me. I'll do something about it. Apologies in advance. DAY 1 - Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 Time of initiation: roughly 5PM Got bored and dug out Final Fantasy VIII, my memory cards, and the strategy guide from my bookcase. After the random thunder storm ended, went down and popped it in. Opening video plays, almost don't make it through as it starts to skip just near the end. It works itself out, I vow to cryofy my siblings for overplaying the intro movie on my version of the game, and continue on. Name Squall as himself, go through the boring intro. Read through all the control panel cr@p, junction Shiva and Quez, and proceed to talk to Quistis and the Trepies. Once they leave, I exit too after going over all the menu stuff, and bump into Selphie. I volunteer to show her around, grab the cards from Soon-To-Be-Spade before the elevator, and proceed to show my way-too-perky soon-to-be-party-member around Garden. After this, I proceed to talk to EVERYONE I can possibly find. I challenge everyone to cards and quickly discover that with a cr@p hand, against crazy-good-card'd players (not them good, just their cards), I loose 3 of the cards and get screwed out of cards until later on. I curse the evilness that is getting rusty at TT and go into the Library, grab the mag and the Esunas, talk to still more people, and exit. Now that I have sufficiently talked to every single person in Garden and no longer have enough cards to play Triple Triad for the moment, I enter the Training Centre. Inside, I take the left-hand (beginner's) trail and level up a bit against some Grats. Shiva and Quez take care of them for me while Squall still sucks, and after a level or two, and being able to defeat them without much trouble on my own, I begin drawing Sleeps and Silences off the Grats. After a few battles, I have a full stock, and junction them to my junction-able stats. I level up to 10 inside, and teach the GFs Boost and Card/Str-J (if I remember correctly). Getting bored, I go grab the Blizzard draw point before heading out. Save and go see Quistis at the Gate. With Quis in tow, I head out to the beach to do some more levelling. I draw Blizzards and so forth off the Fastitocalon-Fs there, and learn another ability or two. Needing some healing, I detour to the forests, stock up fully on Cure magics, and then spend some time in there getting 200 Fires, Thunders and Scans to go with the 200 Blizzards etcetera I already stocked. I rejunction some magic and continue to kill random monsters and level up. I earn myself Quistis's Ultra Waves and leave her perpetually near/at critical so she can deliver the killing blows with Laser Eye and gain the extra experience so she can catch up to Squall. Visit Balamb at some point and talk to everyone, grab the Timber Maniacs mag in the Train Station, and challenge a few people to cards with the handful of new cards I got while fighting and using my handy-dandy new Card ability on random monsters. Once again choose the wrong people (frikken level 5-card players!) and lose cards again against most of the people I meet. Shrug it off as they only take the Glacial Eye/Fastitocalon-Fs cards, and I have multiple ones of those. I believe it was now that I took on this girl outside the hotel (harbour-side) at cards after saving in the hotel, and somehow manage to win Behemoth off her. (not sure if this was before or after the Fire Cavern. Thinking before, but not sure). Save and try again, thinking I might be on to something. Only prove to repeat it multiple times, and only lose. Give up. Try the boy at the harbour instead, lose to him to. Giving up and thinking that Card Queen would be too hard for me, I sigh and end my card playing for the moment while I still have a decent card. After doing all that can be done, I leave. At some point, I learned T-Mag and I-Mag-RF and refined the Fish Fins or whatever into Waters. Once I got 100 on Squall, I junctioned it to his Strength. He kills things one hit now, except for grounded-Fastitocalon-Fs. Does roughly 250 or more at level 13 with trigger pulled. Once I got 100 for Quistis, it went on her Magic. This made her Laser Eye Limit quite dangerous (did nearly 1200 at level 12ish at least twice, no Str increases). Besides the 200 Waters between Squall and Quistis, Squall also has 20 Blizzaga, 60 Thundara, and 20 Thundaga. Once Squall gets to level 15 (Quis is 14) and the GFs are in their 10s (or close, I think) and have the skills I want them to, I head into the Fire Cavern, saving first. I set the time for 10 mins and head inside. I waste my time fighting monsters, and, trying to keep a good record, don't escape. By the time I get to Ifrit, I have 2 mins and 20 seconds. Shiva takes out a good half of his life, and a well placed attack from Squall and Blizzard take him quite a bit, but with all the Ifrit talking and slow speed for spells, I'm down to 30 seconds. I summon Shiva wanting Squall to deliver the final blow. She attacks and it looks close, but just as the attack hits him, the timer hits 0. Literally, ONE extra second would have made me win. Instead, I get the annoying game over screen, and reload outside. Slightly miffed that some fire-elemental furball thought that he could beat this ice prince, I go back at it full force. I once again select 10 mins, but, learning from my mistakes, I move much faster through the cave, and encounter only about 6 monsters total, fleeing only from the 4-monster set since I was too lazy to waste the time either summoning or killing them one by one. I now have about 4 mins and 30 seconds at Ifrit, and this time, plan ahead better. I summon Shiva, hit Ifrit with Blizzard, and attack. Even with all his talking and attacking, and my random Scan-casting, I have him at just over 10 HP by the minute mark. Carefully waiting, I have Squall deliver the killing blow at seven seconds. Game over for Ifrit. Take that, you flameb!tch! Equip Ifrit to Quistis, who also has Quez after a bit of comparing who would better benefit stat-boosting wise, equip some new spells to stats, and leave. With the Card ability, I randomly turn monsters in the Fire Cavern into cards on my way out. Do the same to various monsters on the field. Now I have cards again. w00t. With Ifrit and a bunch of decent cards in tow (yay Bomb!), I return to Balamb to challenge some more people. After discovering evil Behemoth girl is gone now that I have good cards, I sigh and go off searching. Since I know singer-chick at the Car place is too good for me yet, I move on instead to the Card Queen. Try her at cards, discover she actually kinda sucks, and with Diff, win all sorts of level 2 and 3 cards. After I win them all, abandon her and try someone else. After playing her for at least a half hour with Diff, honestly won about 50-60 cards. Since I no longer have sucky cards and am back at full TT awesomeness, challenge the remaining Balamb-ers to cards as well. The singer chick in front of the Car Rental place has Level 4 (?) cards, win a bunch of them off her, and, after getting all the cards humanly possible (and wasting a good hour or two in total), I finally leave and return to B-Garden, about 150 cards heavier then when I began. After running around quickly to gain the whole like, 2 AP, I finish off Quez's Card-Mod. Save and mod sh!t. Go back into Balamb and upgrade both Squall and Quistis's weapons (yay Card-Mod and multiple awesome cards!) That done, I laugh at my own awesomeness and leave. Abandon Quistis at the gate, reequip my GFs all to Squall, and head around talking and card-playing people. Win Quistis off of the Trepie in the Caf, who also has (I think) Level 5 cards. Win all em off him, play cards with all other people I can find, leave. Save, and finally catch the jogging underclassman and challenge him to cards. Win MiniMog off him. After card-playing to my own content, I go into the Training Centre once again. I shift all Silences and Sleeps to Quistis, and draw another 100 each. Now besides the Esunas I drew from the Library and the train tunnel (neither of which regenerated yet...evil), both of us have equal magic. I raise Ifrit up a bit more (level 8-ish), teach him Boost and another ability or two. Once happy in my levelling, with Shiva at about level 18 and Quez at 17, and about 5-6 additional abilities to the starting ones learned on each of the two, I accept that further levelling will just waste too much more time, and stop. After levelling to my liking, with Squall at roughly level 18, I go get changed and get introduced to Zell (booya, backflip!), and after stuff gets explained (WHY WON'T CID PLAY ME CARDS YET!? I WANT SEIFER! GIVE 'IM TO ME NOW!!!), we head off to Balamb. Here, I save in the hotel, and with the items still in stock, upgrade Zell's weapon to Maverick even before fighting with him. Impress even myself, although contemplate the reality of not using Zell's Metal Knuckles even once. Screw it when I realize the extra strength and Hit% outweight that perfectionist issue, and that I can always remodel it back to MK if I really honestly care. Save again and start the sub scene, but after choosing to talk to Zell first cuz he's the besy of them, and loosing the ability to talk to Quis and Seif, I restart. Realize it's now pushing 2AM (actually only about 1:30, but still), and decide instead to turn it off for the night. End Day One. note: exact levels/stats/abilities learned/ etc. are not known for this day. As I wasn't paying perfect attention, the exact times so and so learned this ability, or what exact level Squall was, or how much damage he was doing, etc. are not perfect. These are simply me assuming, and if anything, underestimate my progress. In any case, in roughly 7 hours, I stocked up on about 200 cards (before modding), had both Quis and Squall with 100 of all possibily draw-able magics (minus Esuna but including Water), had Squall at minimum level 15, almost surely level 17-18, had Quistis at level 14, had Boost, Card/Card-Mod/T-Mag-RF/HP-J and Str-J/I-Mag-RF/(other unimportant abilities) learned, had Shiva and Quez at minimum level 15, and Ifrit minimum level 8, with Boost and HP-J learned, as well as having Ifrit, Quistis and MiniMog's cards (all those possible at that point) by THE BEGINNING OF THE DOLLET MISSION. More exact stats, etc., will be available for Day 2, being as I have yet to save over / continue on from there. The stats for day 2 will give a precise example of where I've gotten to as of just before the Biggs/Wedge battle in Dollet. Stay tuned for that. For reference, I'm honestly not trying to brag. Just testing this gamer diary thing out. DAY TWO: Wednesday, July 5th, 2006 Approximate Time of Commencement: 8:30 PM (will continue this tomorrow after work..it's 3:30 in the morning and I have to be awake and sane at 11AM for work, since the inspector dude is coming to discuss cr@p with our T. Ho's manager. Must look nice / work well or face being fired for no apparent reason since supposedly under new Manage/Ownership they'll be doing that...yay for fun times these coming 2 weeks. Must be off, will pick it up tomorrow. With stats and other random useless crap. Sorry for wasting anyone's time. Much love [and ice] to all! ~Frosteh) |

Well, you made me want to play FF7, except without the strat guide and/or the walkthru for it I used the first time around, I decided to hold off on that And no, people can post in here I guess...or I work it somehow maybe for one thread for comments and the other for the actual diary...although that seems overkill, so...*shrugs* And Red, feel free to follow my example. It's just surprisingly a lot of work..so..yeah, be forewarned. I will reply again when I have my stats and such and feel like continuing days 2 and 3. More likely in about 3 hours when I do all I want to tonight (finish the Dollet mission and return to Balamb). till soon. |
