Hey all! Since the last topic I made in this forum was "Assembling the Ultimate party" - and that doesn't get a lot of attention - and I recently found out that I am more or less a strategizing genius when it comes to FF8 (my friend bought the game, and I was helping him out - mostly I play cards), I thought I'd relay some of the strategies I used with his characters that have prevailed against Cerberus, Seifer and Edea, and a few others (which I cannot remember atm). So here it goes. These are basically party configurations when I went into battle, and they should all be pretty easy to obtain, since I got them while playing a "ordinary" game (it is my friend's first time, so he hasn't gone out of the way to do anything and has just played the game). All the level 2-3+ magic is from using elemental magic refine on items and (maybe) card refine on some low-level cards. Format: Name - GF - Abilities - Important Junctions Card farming / AP generating: Rinoa - Quezacotl, any - Magic, Draw, Card - any Squall - Ifrit, any - Draw, GF, Item, Str+20%, Str+40% - Str Selphie - any - Draw, GF, Item - any 1. Go to any beach on Balamb's or Timber's continent (where you fight orange fish) 2. Get into battle with Squall and Selphie in critical zone (yellow HP). 3. Have Squall use his limit break to get the fish out of the sand, and then attack for 200~ damage (or Elem-J Thunder for more). 4. Rinoa shoud use card on the fish Squall has attacked, or draw magic while waiting (5.) Have Selphie use cure spells via slots if your health gets too low. ==================================================== Defeat Ifrit (10 minute run-through): Quistis - Shiva - Magic, Draw, GF - any Squall - Quezacotl - Magic, Draw, Item - Mag Give Squall all ice spells (before starting the run-through) I did a 10 minute run-through at level 8-9 and beat Ifrit by continuously summoning GFs and by using Squall's Renzozuken and attacks, even though I couldn't see my menu due to a glitch (I fixed) and couldn't see to cast blizzard. I started the fight around 9 minutes by running away from every other battle. After Ifrit talked a bit I even started simply attacking him. Meaning: this fight isn't hard at all, and anyone can do it under 10 minutes. 1. Summon Shiva with Quistis 2. Have Squall cast Blizzard spells ==================================================== Slaughter the Brothers (Sacred and Minotaur): Any Any Squall - Ifrit, Diablos - Magic, Draw, Item, Str+20%, Str+40%, any - Str(100 Tornado) Someone must have a Beserk magic. Squall's level should be > 10 (mine was 18~). I'm not joking when I say that this fight took 3 rounds (1 hit on Sacred, 2 on Minotaur). 1. Cast Beserk on Squall. ==================================================== Defeat Cerberus/Seifer/Edea: Rinoa - Shiva, any - Magic, Draw, GF, Mag+20%, Mag+40% - Mag Zell - Brothers, Ifrit, Diablos - GF, Item, Darkside, Str+20%, Str+40%, HP+80% (or 40% - Str, HP(100 Curaga) Squall - any - Draw, GF, Item - any If Edea, someone must have Siren. If you have 50 or more silence or pain, they must be Status-Atk junctioned to the person with Siren Give Rinoa all cure spells aside from what Zell has equipped (like LIFE). If you have battled Tri-Face in the same area as Cerberus and drawn out his magics (like flare and pain) they can be equipped easily for great effect 1. Have Rinoa and Zell at full HP, with Squall in the critical zone 2. At the start of the battle, use Squall's limit breaks combined with Zell's Darkside ability (a lot of damage at the cost of HP), if fighting Edea, have Rinoa attack (with Status-J) or summon Siren 3. When Zell's HP gets low enough, have him start using his limit break 4. Rinoa must be the healer, if the party's hp falls below 200~500. If your party level is below 10, make sure your party is either equipped with HP junctions or shoot for healing at 100- hp 5. If Seifer uses his limit break, or they get the better of you, have Rinoa use Life or one of the others use Pheonix Downs. ==================================================== Defeat Adel: Irvine - Bahamut, Doomtrain, any - Darkside, Draw, Item, Str+60%, any - Str(100 Ultima or 100 Triple), Stat-Def(100 Pain, 100 Holy, 100 Reflect, 100 Esuna) any any Someone must have Aura (draw-able from Island closest to Heaven/Hell), or else junction 100 Ultima to Irvine's Luk and use Cactuar's Luk+% ability. 1. Cast Aura on Irvine. 2. Use Irvine's Hyper Shot / Armor Shot It turns out Adel will kindly bring Irvine down to low enough hp with Maelstrom and other moves (or kill him, and you can Pheonix Down or Life him) that he can shoot away Adel's life with just a couple 9999's. ==================================================== Beat Anyone (cheaply): Rinoa - any - Magic, Recover, Revive, Mag+60%, Str+60%, Ribbon, Auto-Haste - HP(100 Full-Life), Str(100 Ultima), Magic(100 Meteor), Spd(100 Triple), Luk(100 Pain) Squall - any - Draw, GF, Item, Str+60%, Ribbon, Auto-Haste, Initiative - HP(100 Full-Life), Str(100 Ultima), Spd(100 Triple), Luk(100 Pain) Zell - any - GF, Item, Darkside, Str+60%, Ribbon, Auto-Haste, Initiative - HP(100 Full-Life), Str(100 Ultima), Spd(100 Triple), Luk(100 Pain) *This means without "The End" since that will beat anyone, including Omega. Rinoa's limit in the status screen should have "Wishing Star" or "Invincible Moon" selected. Everyone should be in the critical zone upon entering battle. 1. Immediately entering a battle use a Holy War. 2. Spam Limit Breaks. 3. If Rinoa doesn't get Invincible Moon after 3 rounds use another Holy War. 4. Repeat. For a bit of style~ 1. Have everyone at full HP when entering a battle 2. Equip 100 Pain to everyone's Status-Atk 3. Have Zell use Darkside, Squall use attacks, and Rinoa use Recover/Revive as needed. There might be more to come~ Reply if you like it! *Note - Go to this link: ~ A lesson in FF8 strategy to us all ~ |

It made up for my surprising lack of post...that has honestly got to be the shortest reply/post I have EVER made on here Yay for breathing some life back into this board...I got bored trying to myself and with avoiding threadsof those I "don't play well with", since I don't want the mods to warn me more for being bad ...so..yay!mm, and for reference people, if you need help with pretty much any FF game (minus 11 and probly 7, since I haven't played that one in years) feel free to ask, hm? Right now I'm playing 12, so if anyone has issues with that, ask. *waves and disappears* |

Well I figured I might as well make one for the "Member's Strategies" section, since it currently hosts none of my own... Also I added a bit more. |

Good luck...there've been a couple things posted in this forum that've merited going there as well...no one checks this forum for the express purpose of immortalizing these things. On the plus side, I suppose you could take comfort in the fact that if I still had any form of power, I'd have done it. *shifty eyes* Whether or not that's comforting I suppose depends on one's opinions on that, but anyway... Good luck with that!

Dude is that you who totally massacred Omega, or someone else? Cuz that totally rocked. Ahh, the fond memories. I wish the battle was that easy when I played it. I never got that many turns in a row, he always abused Terra Break and Lv. 5 Death and Light Pillar, and my Rinoa NEVER used Wishing Star anywhere near that consistently. If that was you, you'll have to tell me how you did it. Was it maxing out her luck or something, cuz I was pretty sure she'd learned all her Angelo moves....I always got Angelo Strike or Angelo Cannon, if I got Wishing Star twice in one battle I was laughing. Ditto Lionheart. I swear, the game didn't like me. But that's ok, FF8, cuz I lah yoo anyway *massive arse glompage that disturbs anyone in a 100 mile radious* Now I want to replay FF8 again, but considering I'm already playing: FF12 (almost done, but I still have enough level whoring and side quest-y stuff to do me all summer, if I want) Kingdom Hearts 2 (I'm getting back into the furthest saved game I have...I just finished collecting all the shards and gems and poop to complete the collection listing, now I just have 20 mini-games-related poop to finish [most of it is the impossible "score 1 billion points in this Pooh minigame" poop], and then raise myself up like, 3 more levels to get to 99, and then I think I will be content and done. Well, as soon as I get my share of Demy and Axel and the rest of the Org co. ...which is totally why I'm replaying it. The Org = teh awesomeness) X-Men Legends (I'm currently abusing a particular Danger Room session in the Astral Plane and Jean Grey's own-age skills to max out my characters levels. And then I need to continue on from wherever I was. I forget. I'm over half done, in any case )X-Men Legends 2 (I started this game, but stopped cuz I didn't need to get into it before I finished the other. Also, I don't like the characters I get as much. *shrugs* Probly will start this over the summer) Chrono Cross (I started this and got to the first non-intro battle place, but it confused the hell out of me with it's colours thing, so I decided to wait until I have brain cells to devote to understanding it. Also maybe the strategy guide. *shrugs*) I also restarted an FF9 game earlier in the school year / over last summer, but stopped playing that in late Disc 3, so...maybe I'll finish it. I love Memoria, so it's something I do want to do. Anyway, my mom's here to pick me up to go home, so I'll end this pointless rantage, good luck getting this pinned, and I shall bother you more later.

It's not me. Watch the beginning video again, where he goes through his menu, and pause it when he gets to the junction part. On every character he has junctions for HP, Str, and Spd (100 Triple) as well as stat-boosting abilities, and he junctioned Rinoa's Luk with 100 Ultima, and gave her the ability Luk+50%. He also has every character in the critical zone, and then used aura on the party to "max their critical meter" or something like that - it's what makes Squall do a finishing move every single time. |

If I actually still played FF8, I would totally see how well that strategy works. But as I proved in my lengthy post above, I really should not get back into FF8 now
I'll have to see where my stats fall though in my best game. Hm, maybe I shall check now Anyway, one way or another, this seems like a "fun" (and by fun I mean lengthy and possibly annoying) way to fill the time and get bragging rights.
Mayhaps I shall go write my stats down now...brb |

[Just in case there's a character/word limit, this took too much time to do to be wasted x_X Yeah, I also realized this isn't the furthest game I have along on the third disc, cuz I distinctly remember doing a lot more, specifically AmnesiaGreens'ing a few GF's repetitive abilities [ie: GF, Draw, Magic, Item, etc.] to teach them better abilities, but I can't find that file. Heheheh... You can teach every GF the Stat+60% abilities if you complete the CC Group quest and CQ quest.... Actually there's nothing you can't do if you complete those 2 quests. By modding cards and what they give you, you can get every non-unique item in the game. |

Yeah, I know somewhere I have a game where I actually did do some major tweaking to my GFs' abilities...I just can't for the life of me find out which game it was on. I suppose having probably pushing 100 save files saved randomly on 9 different memory cards is not so helpful either. I figured it was one of my 200+ hr games, but it seems all of those either are roughly the same as what I gave above, or I ruined them with the Max Items cheat code and maxed everyone's stats with that, so I don't technically count them but can't find out where my good games are. So aggravating. Maybe I'll try looking in my 100+ hr games next...which is like, 40 or 50 files worth. Yay fun x______XU I swear I actually wasted a crapload of time getting good items and stats, I just need to figure out where I put it o_O *<3s the CC ad CQ quests and points at his "Sidequests FAQ"...those were the days* |
