Hello I missed drawing alexander (darn), and I've progressed too far to go back now. I'm just at the end of disc 3, and am spending my time leveling up on the heaven / hell islands (I've got Squall, Quistis and Zell at level 100). Now, I want Doomtrain, but I don't have an ability to convert remedy to remedy+. I'm assuming that Alexander has this ability?? If so, then nevermind. Is there another way to get remedy+ without alexander's ability? I'm also trying to get the lionheart weapon. But for some reason I don't have the Card Mod ability, so I can't make adamantine. I've got the Card ability, but not the Card Mod. Please help, as I plan on taking on Ultima Weapon (or Omega Weapon?) in Ultimecia's Castle - and Doomtrain and especially the lionheart weapon would be VERY helpful. |

You can get Alexander on Disc four in Ultimecia's Castle by drawing him off of Catoblepas. Just be sure to unlock the "Draw" command pretty much right off and be sure to draw Alexander off of Catoblepas immediately before you continue with the killing him thing. From there, you just need to raise up Alex until he learns Med Lv Up, swap some Remedies for 6 Remedy+s, and if you have the ring, the steel pipes and the malboro tentacles, you're good to go for Doomtrain. For reference, yeah, it's Omega Weapon in Ulti's Castle. Ultima Weapon is in the bottom of the Deep Sea Deposit inside the Deep Sea Research Facility, whom you can draw Eden off of. As for Lionheart, I do believe, if you're patient enough, you can win (or possibly steal) some off of Adamantoises, which you can find rarely (about every 10 battles or so) on the beach across from Dollet (there's a forest beside it where you can find Mr. Monkey for the Obel Lake Mystery sidequest, and you should be able to see this beach-lined archipelago [long nearly-island-y type thing, think the boot of Italy] as you're running alongside it. Keep to the beach, and while typically you find Fastitocalon-Fs (which are good for AP-farming, fyi), you should also find pairs of Adamantoises there. Be careful, though, cuz they're resilient buggers and they can protect themselves and cause sandstorms. You can also win some handy items for Quistis' Blue Magic off of them, plus they're just cool. Otherwise, um, make sure you learned all the proper abilities for Quez (and make sure you didn't use a Scroll or something to teach him a new ability before he finished learning all his natural ones), cuz he should get access to Card-Mod after learning Card. Check Quez's ability list, if he doesn't have ALL of these, and ONLY these, then you either taught him something before you should have, or something's very wrong: HP-J Vit-J Mag-J Elem-Atk-J Elem-Def-J Elem-Def x2 Magic GF Draw Item Card Mag+20% Mag+40% SumMag+10% SumMag+20% SumMag+30% GFHP+10% GFHP+20% Boost T Mag-RF Mid Mag-RF Card Mod ..those are all of Quez's abilities, so if you have one on yours that isn't there, you know something's up. Also, if you just flat out AREN'T FINISHED TEACHING QUEZ ALL HIS ABILITIES, that could also be a problem ![]() If you need any more help, I'll be happy to provide you with any assistance I can. I haven't played in ages, but besides intricacies, I think I've mostly still got a decent handle on it, so hopefully I can help. Lemme know if that was useful, or if you need any further help, k? =D G'luck with everything! |

Thank you very much for that. I'm at work now, so I'll check Quez's abilities when I get home. I don't remember teaching him anything . . . And all my GF's have learned everything they have (lots of time spent on Cactaur Island) Is there an item that can be refined with the GF-learning ability to get the Med Lv Up ability? For example I just refined 100 Cactus Thorns for the "Hundred Needles Item" which teaches a GF the Return Damage ability - and it's very cool. I put it on Squall and everytime someone attacks him they take 1/4 of that damage themselves. Regards Irfaan |

Off-hand, I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Since I've had Alexander in pretty much all my play-throughs minus the veryvery first one I bummed off my brother (he/we missed everything but Quez/Shiva/Ifrit/Diablos/Cerberus, I believe), I never really needed another char with MedLvUp...but I believe no. Like I said, as long as you make sure you have the ring and the other items come the L.Pandora events, you should be fine to get Doomtrain, so long as you draw Alexander off of Catoblepas. IF you'd rather not wait that long, all I can help you with is suggesting that maybe, just /maybe/, it might be better for you to pick up a game just before the Edea battle at the end of Disc 2 and draw him off then. I realize you've probly put hours of effort in to your current game, so it's all up to you, really. There's actually a lot of cool ways to make your GFs better. If you get Siren to level 100, you can use her Tool-RF command to create some awesome weapons from 100 Curse Spikes, by turning the item you get into anything from Luck-J scrolls to Abilityx4 items. Which means you can have all 6 chars with Abilx4, Luck-J, and a host of other rockin' abilities if you put enough effort into it. Just hang out on, I think, the second or third floor of the DSRF and fight/mug as many Tri-Faces as possible, and/or play cards against players which play with TriFace cards, and after a loooooong arse time (trust me, on one of my games, I was /still/ trying to do it, and my game was about 16 hrs in the blue (ie: 216 hrs, cuz first its grey, then the numbers go red when you go over 99:59, then it goes blue), so...yeahhh) Anyway, if I learn anything that might help ya, I'll get back to you, but it looks like you're pretty much left with a choice: restart from a point in Disc Two (I hope you save on multiple slots, fyi, it's helpful for moments like this); or continue onto disc four whenever you're ready and get Alex, and thus Doomtrain, from there. Either way you should be fine as long as you remember to DRAW! =D Good luck with whatever you choose, if you need any further help, I'm here, so lemme know =) |

I also had very few GF's the first time I played through. Now I've got all of them except for Alexander and Doomtrain. Yes, I save after every "cool" cut-scene. But I've worked too hard since Disc 2 to level up everybody and get tons of awesome spells. Oh well - then I guess its time to get some adamantine and then go to take on Ulti (she doesn't stand a chance!) Thank you for your help. |

Not a problem. Lemme know if you need any more help. Oh, and if you plan on makin' your GFs awesome for the final battle against Ulti later (ie: working it out so that you have a decent list of abilities on all six chars), you might wanna do the Deep Sea Research Facility thing first, since I do believe it gets locked up like all the other spots post-Time Compression. Oh, and in case you didn't know, when you get to Ulti's Castle, you can also nab yourself the Ragnarok and do some other cool things. More on that if you're interested =) Enjoy yourself, and g'luck with everything

Thanks, but I've got Eden already. Ultima Weapon wasn't much of a challenge against my level 90-ish characters at the time. Nab the Ragnarok!? The last time I was in her castle, there was no escape. Going through the portals just sucked because of the time - compression. If I could get the ragnarok, then at least I could fly to the heaven / hell islands to level up doomtrain and alexander. Could you tell me how, or have you written a guide somewhere? |

I'll do you one better and do both xD How to Find the Ragnarok on Disc 4 Scroll down past all the random bits to my first post on that link, and it lists off a decent walkthrough on how to get Ragnarok once you make it to Ultimecia's Castle. You can get tons of cards there too, if you finished the Card Club Quest in B-Garden (which may be less helpful since you can't seem to Card Mod o_O), although I think only a very, veeeery small handful of places are open to check out. All the towns/cities are unapproachable, and I think a lot of the dungeons are too, minus the Centra Ruins and such. Also, there might be more in my "Ultimate Side Quest Guide" or some such in the Member's Strats sub-board on here, I can't remember what all it has, so yeah ![]() Hope that helps...? Don't worry, I didn't even notice those pillar-y portals my first playthrough, until I read a walkthrough about it myself, so ![]() Oh, and speaking of the Isles Closest to Heaven/Hell, are you aware they're littered with drawpoints for the most awesome magics ever? Click x as you move around (junctioning Enc-None might be nice for when you're trying it at first) and just jump back and forth between them and you'll be able to build up your magic stocks slowly but surely! =D Edited by The Frostbound Prince, May 27 2009, 07:31 AM.

Thanks a ton. Yeah, I draw the spells from the islands. I've got Squall, Quistis and Zell junctioned with 100Ultima to their elemental defense. Which means that no matter what elemental spell I get hit with I take 0 damage. Cool. Will let you know If I'm able to beat Omega Weapon (as long as I get the lionheart - otherwise I'm going to skip that fight!) Thanks. |

I believe there's four spells that, if you junction them on your Elem-Def (need Elem-Defx4, of course), you absorb like, 80% of everything. Off-hand I can't think of them, but I believe it's Ultima, Shell, ...and I forget the rest. Been much too long since I last played o___O Well, good luck. Like I said, you need any other pieces of help (Ultimecia's Castle is my area of expertise, actually...at the very least the Ulti battle. Must have fought her over and over about a hundred times memorizing lines, taking down descrips, and being generally an insane person), so yeah. Or if you end up playing other FF games, or pretty much anything. I'm good with things like that, in general. So if you need help, just ask. =) Have fun till then, much luck with all the battles and such! ...on the very off-chance you get stuck on Adel (although if you're level 90+ that /really/ shouldn't be a problem), there's a couple useful strats on here for that, too =P Good luck getting Alexander and Doomtrain, enjoy the awesomeness that is the remainder of FF8!

Woo-hoo! I've got the lion heart, and Quistis's Save the Queen!! I fought that floating thing with the needle on it's hiney in esthar - and it dropped energy crystals. He only used the lion heart limit break once in about 10 times - but freakin' hell, that must have done about 100000 damage!!!!!!!! I've just taken out Seifer and Adel on the Pandora - with me @ level 100 they didn't last too long. So I'm off to the castle now, and will fight Omega Weapon once I've unlocked all of my abilities. Do you have any tips on how to achieve the lion heart limit break more often? Because unless I use it more I don't think I'm going to be able to defeat Weapon. Thanks |

Congrats! As for getting it more, personally, no. Try raising his Luck (getting a GF to learn Luck-J using the scrolls you can refine from Curse Spikes is good like that), then junction something awesome to it. Or if you have a GameShark or something for it, you could always, I suppose, hack in 99 LuckUp items (forget what they're called, exactly), and use em on Squall over and over again. Luck would probly also be useful for Rinoa and Selphie, to get their better abilities more often. Beyond that, I never really over-analyzed the game enough to warrant it. Lionheart was fun just cuz of how chance-y it was....it was nice to be able to do 9999 about 20 times plus 4-8 from Renzokuken, but typically, minus the Omega and Ultima battles and Ultimecia, you don't really need to be doing 4 million+ damage per attack, and if you need to do more than 9999, there's always Eden at level 100 boosted to 250 with all his SumMag abilities learned to get you a nice 60,000, or a level 100 Cactuar, or Renzokuken in general or Zell's Duel or Quistis' Shockwave Pulsar or Rinoa's Wishing Star or Irvine's Fast Shot or Selphie's The End. ...so yeah =P Um, g'luck with everything else, don't forget to draw off Catoblepas, and um, have fun finding a GF with Luck-J (if I remember right, either Tonberry OR Cactuar MIGHT have it), and um, yeah? |
