If you can read this, you are not illiterate. Congratulations! Have a cookie.
Edit: I realize this should probably be, like, in one of those FF boards, but no one reads those, so at least here, people have a chance of actually seeing it. Likewise, it's not like we've got hundreds of other active threads in the General board, and it's not like the subject totally doesn't fit here. So...mleh. If whatever remaining mods think it should be moved, fine, otherwise, yay for maybe someone actually reading/seeing this. :D

OK, so I did this before, back when the possibility of Dissidia getting a sequel was there, but still wasn't official. Then we got Duodecim, which, don't get me wrong, is cool, but quite a few games got screwed out of additional characters, and unless you were one of the handful of returning heroes to get more than a cameo appearance, the original cast was pretty much wasted.

So, here's the deal. We're designing our own sequel/prequel to Dissidia and Duodecim.

Rules

1-No returning cast members. If you were in Dissidia or Duodecim, you can't be involved in this game. POTENTIALLY, being how this will probably revolve around either Cycle 001 or 011 or something in between, some characters COULD return, but no. For simplicity's sake, just ignore them and pick new people. (Note: If you do choose to have someone return, make sure you have some frikken good reasons to include them over potential new characters!)

2-Maximum cast of 32 characters, INCLUDING hidden characters. Even if you take Duodecim into account, there were only 22 characters + 8 new ones, + Feral Chaos. Which is 31. And 32 is quite enough, if we want any of them to get any screentime anyway.

3-All character suggestions must/should include original game, reason why you think they should be included, what they bring into the series, and potential movesets or ideas like that. Also whether they're Chaos-oriented, Cosmos-oriented, or if they swap sides, and if so, which to which?

4-If you're daring enough, chart out a plot for the game. What cycle (if any---if you want it to take place AFTER 013, then um, work that out too) is being dealt with? Who will be fighting against who, who interacts with who, what goes on, and how does the cycle end? Which ones potentially move on to further cycles (or were in previous ones), and which mark this as their last cycle, and why?

5-While you don't NEED to include 1-3 characters from each of the original 10-13 games, please try to include at least one major character from each game, if possible. You can also use non-main-series games (ie: FFTactics, or Crisis Core, or X-2, etc...), although avoid using Kingdom Hearts, unless you have some really awesome suggestions. Also, try to include a roughly-even number of heroes and villains---or at least characters oriented with Cosmos and Chaos. Even if you need to creatively revamp some "heroes" into bad guys. =) You can be heavier on one side or the other, (ie: 12 to 15), just try to keep them in the same ballpark. If you only have five Chaos villains and 27 Cosmos warriors, methinks the game will be horribly unbalanced o___O

Anyway, let's get to it. So, let's start off with my suggestions, shall we?

I suggest dealing with Cycle 008. Why? Because it's "long enough" ago that probably most of the current characters weren't involved, but recent enough that we don't have to worry about what Shantotto, Gabranth and Prishe are doing, either. Also, 8 is an awesome number, and it gives enough time to follow up with cycles afterwards involving those I introduce, or involve them in previous cycles as well.

Cycle 008 - SeeDs of the Future

Cast of Characters

Red Mage: A hero from FF1, the Red Mage is skilled at both magic and swordcraft in equal measure, although limited in all. Like Warrior of Light, he is among Cosmos's most revered warriors, however, unlike WoL, he is much more practical and down-to-earth, as well as being more concerned about being the very best he can be. He remembers enough about his past to know that he was once a predestined crystal warrior, and that Chaos is his enemy, and is quite adept at manuevering himself around the world map, despite not quite recognizing the world as almost identical to his own.

Maria: A heroine from FF2, Maria is the biological sister of Leon and adoptive sister of Firion. Specializing in forms of combat from a distance, like her bow, she can, like Firion, pick up pretty much anything and be fairly good with it. A warrior chosen by Cosmos, she remembers little of the world she came from, besides her brother, Leon. A tragic figure and orphan, she is nonetheless strong, and a sisterly figure amongst the heroes of Cosmos.

Leon: A hero/villain from FF2, Leon is the biological brother of Maria and adoptive brother of Firion. He specializes in swordcraft and the like, although like Maria and Firion, can use any weapon fairly well. Remembering next to nothing of his past, he is chosen by Chaos to fight, and doesn't even recognize his own sister, Maria. Like Maria, he is an orphan, and equally tragic. He will likely switch sides to Cosmos late in the game, upon remembering Maria and why he fights.

Desch: A hero from FF3, Desch was a wanderer and aided the party as a guest until arriving at the Tower of Owen in his own world, before sacrificing himself to restabilitize the tower after recovering his memories. Desch is a warrior of Cosmos, and, like his original self, has almost no memories of his past, barring his name. While he may sacrifice himself during the plot to save the rest of the heroes, for the most part, Desch will be the wanderer, protecting the world for reasons he's not quite sure of. He most likely was part of one of the original cycles (001 or 002), slept through some of the intervening ones, and was revived for Cycle 008.

Xande: A villain from FF3, Xande was a great magician, although unlike his contemporaries, who were given great powers, he was gifted with the power of mortality, and feared and loathed the thoughts of his own inevitable demise, which drove him mad. He manipulated the powers of light and dark to disrupt the crystals, so there might be a flood of darkness (ie: Cloud of Darkness) that would stop time, allowing him to live eternally. A warrior summoned by Chaos, Xande is incredibly powerful as a mage, although loathes the thought of his own inevitable demise during the unending cycles of the war between the gods. As such, while he is technically a warrior of Chaos, he, like the Emperor, has his own plans, and manipulates those around him in order to see those plans through---a stalemate between the gods wherein Shinryu shall not come to wipe the slate clean and renew the cycle, and where he might live forever, unopposed.

Rydia: A heroine from FF4, Rydia was seemingly the only survivor of a horrific attack that decimated her people, the summoners. As a child, she only has access to a limited number of summons, but as she grows, thanks to the quickening of time in the Faymarch, where the summons reside, she ages a decade or more in only a few days. Depending on how the plot works, this change will either take place as a plot-related instance, OR her child/adult shift will be her Ex-Mode changes. In any case, as a summoner, she can summon a handful of powerful beings to her aid, plus uses whips, staves, knives and daggers, as well as a combination of white and black magic---although the latter is lost as an adult. As a child, Rydia is seemingly helpless, although still resolute, despite the loneliness she remembers from her own memories of the past. As an adult, she is headstrong, confident, and among the most powerful warriors out there. She is a warrior of Cosmos.

Zemus/Zeromus: A villain from FF4, Zemus was a Lunarian who wanted to dominate the lesser peoples of the world below, and manipulated Golbez and, to a lesser extent, Cecil in order to do so. Even in death, his will could not be quelled, and he returned as Zeromus, a spirit entity of hate and rage. A warrior summoned by Chaos, Zemus loathes the human members of the cast, seeing them as little more than insects. He is killed during the plot of the story, but revives as Zeromus, a much more powerful entity, and continues to fight on.

Faris: A heroine from FF5, Faris is the sister of Lenna, and the lost princess of Tycoon. A pirate by trade, she disguises herself as a man to gain the respect and adoration of those around her. Despite her birthright, she is quite down-to-earth, and quite swarthy and swash-buckling. Faris is summoned by Cosmos, and remembers only snatches of her past---namely, that she is a pirate, dresses as a man, and otherwise is quite the dominating presence. Like Bartz, she can take on a number of different roles, and can mimic the abilities of both friend and foe alike, if given half the chance.

Enuo: A villain from FF5, Enuo was a powerful wizard who traded his immortality for control of the Void. He went on a destructive spree with this power over nothingness, and was eventually defeated, and the world was split in two, sealing the Void within the rift between the two dimensions. A warrior chosen by Chaos, Enuo is skilled with using the nothingness of the Void to attack, and as such is a powerful villain. It is he that initially cracks open the rift that allows the manikins into the world, although Enuo himself had no idea such a thing would occur, nor does he have any control over the manikins themselves. When he is overthrown, his power temporarily seals the rift, although cracks eventually re-emerge.

Locke: A hero from FF6, Locke is a treasure hunter extraordinaire (don't call him a thief!), and somehow always manages to get drawn into the drama unfolding around him. Skilled in thievery and other such skills, among Locke's special skills is the ability to pilfer equipment and accessories from the foe and add it to your inventory, which is a pleasant change of pace from grinding away to get certain rare items. Locke is typically easy-going, unless someone accuses him of being a thief---let's just say, don't go there. A warrior chosen by Cosmos, he remembers enough about his life to know who his allies are, but not enough to fully recognize the differences between the two worlds.

Celes: A heroine from FF6, Celes is a soldier infused with magickal essence, and forced to fight for the Gestahlian army before eventually rebelling and joining the heroes in their fight. Quite similarly to Terra, Celes is manipulated into being a pawn of Chaos, and remembers next to nothing about her past life, so that she doesn't quite realize she's fighting on the wrong side. Like Leon, she will eventually switch sides and become a warrior for Cosmos, but until then, don't expect this magick-infused warrior to back down---and rue the day you choose to use magic against her, since one casting of Runic, and all that magickal energy is hers. In general, though, Celes is a strong, capable woman---the anti-thesis to Terra, who, despite all her power, was often too weak or scared to make use of it.

Zack: A hero from FF7 and Crisis Core, Zack is a witty, happy-go-lucky soldier once-upon-a-time, and as a warrior of Cosmos, is perhaps the most upbeat and comedic of the current cast of warriors for the goddess of harmony. Adept with his sword, and proficient enough with magic thanks to the Mako energy infused into him, Zack is a powerful soldier. Always trying to keep morale up, Zack is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his fellow warriors in good spirits, despite the pain. Zack has a few memories from his past, although just how much he does remember is never quite given away. Zack may or may not sacrifice himself at the end of this cycle to protect his fellow warriors.

Angeal: A hero/villain from FF7: Crisis Core, Angeal was Zack's mentor, friend, and commanding officer, before the older man turned traitor to side with his childhood friend, periodically attacking Zack before finally falling before his own blade. A calm, earnest, solitary man, he is summoned by Chaos remembering only his connection to friends that don't (yet) exist in this realm, and a faint memory of disdain and antagonism towards Zack. Like Zack, Angeal is proficient with swords, but has a few surprising attacks up his sleeve for when that's just not enough.

Zell: A hero from FF8, Zell is the brash, loud, knowledgable, and comedic unarmed combatant that loves hotdogs---and loathes being called a Chicken Wuss. Content to glide around on his hoverboard and otherwise avoid conflict, Zell gets drawn into the conflict by Cosmos, and puts his martial arts training to good use. While Zell has few memories of his own past aside from brief snatches and his loathing of Seifer, Zell is ironically the historian of the group, and seems to know quite a lot about the world and the cycles of war amongst the gods---memories retained from past experience in earlier cycles in that war.

Rinoa: A heroine from FF8, Rinoa is the kind-hearted, daring, and out-spoken rebel leader, who also just-so-happens to be a sorceress. Rinoa has a big heart, as is evidenced by her willingness to sacrifice everything for a town that isn't even hers, although that rebellious streak does land her in some trouble. Her outspokenness also leads those around her to either love or loathe her, with little in-between. A powerful magic-user, Rinoa also specializes in projectile-based combat, and in Ex-Mode can summon her faithful sidekick, her pet Angelo, into the fray, as well as use magic spells that are significantly more powerful whilst in Angel Wing mode. A warrior chosen by Cosmos, she remembers more about the world they were originally from then Zell, and she remembers her relationship with both him and Seifer well, although she doesn't quite get the cyclical nature of this war she's involved in, although that's of little consequence to her.

Seifer: A hero/villain from FF8, Seifer is the obnoxious, arrogant bully, constantly picking on those around him, and otherwise using words to get under other people's skin. He and Zell specifically loathe one another, and he and Rinoa once had a relationship, and while both remember it, Seifer has yet to realize that relationship was in the past, while Rinoa remembers a budding relationship with a boy who has yet to be brought into this new world, and shirks Seifer's advances, much to the boy's disdain. A warrior for Chaos, Seifer specializes in the gunblade and fire magic, specifically, but often it's his cutting remarks that do the most damage. The leader of a posse including Celes and Leon, although neither follow him quite as well as he remembers his disciplinary committee doing before...

Vivi: A hero from FF9, Vivi is a Black Mage, and constantly questioning his own existence. Originally a warrior for Chaos, Vivi becomes aware of the senseless slaughter around him, and defects to Cosmos's side relatively early in the game. A powerful mage, Vivi proves a competent fighter, despite his relative youth and small stature. The voice of doubt and insecurity, Vivi ponders the big questions, and makes his comrades think. "How do we prove we exist? Maybe we don't exist..."

Beatrix: A villain/hero from FF9, Beatrix is the most well-respected lady-general in the land, and feared as one of the world's greatest swords(wo)men. With a nigh-unshakable loyalty to the cause, Beatrix will follow orders without question---until one of those orders conflicts with her own moral standards. Called by Chaos, Beatrix is willing to follow her liege's orders, felling many a Cosmos-warrior with little regard. However, when he calls her to strike down one Cosmos warrior in particular, one who she vaguely remembers as among her duties to protect, she rebels, and, after a period of moral dilemma, defects and attempts to join Cosmos's side, or at least help protect her princess...

Paine: A heroine from FF10-2, Paine is a strong, silent warrior, and often the voice of reason and realism in her party. A wicked woman with a sword, Paine was called by Cosmos, and reluctantly joins the battle. Paine's few memories of the past involve a wicked battle from some earlier time, in which she was among the sole survivors, and such is her reasoning to stay stoic and not let others in---she fears a repeat of such a time, and in an epic battle between two deities such as this, it's only natural that some will, eventually, fall in battle. While cold and distant outwardly, she will never turn away friends outright, and will always protect the downtrodden...even when such a choice may not prove wisest.

Baralai: A hero/villain from FF10-2, Baralai was the calm, thoughtful, resolute young ruler of a religious group in his own world, and possessed by an entity drenched in hate and forced to nearly destroy the world. Called into this world by Chaos, Baralai is certainly the odd-man-out in Chaos's forces, and prefers to spend his time in idle contemplation than in battle. While not the strongest of warriors, his magick and, to a lesser extent, physical attacks are not quite horrible either. His reluctance to join the fray changes when, possessed by Zeromus's loathing, he attempts to destroy the world and all those who stand in his way.

Balthier: A hero from FF12, Balthier is the self-titled "leading man" and self-assured, suave, and witty character, with quite the dramatic flair. Summoned by Cosmos, Balthier is quite adept with guns and other projectiles, although can equip pretty much anything is allowed the skill. A sky pirate by trade, what little he remembers of his old world reminds him that soaring the skies in second nature to him, and in this world without, he truly feels the loss. While quite upbeat, Balthier's over-the-top attitude belies a deep insecurity and tragic history, one which Balthier himself only vaguely remembers. He and Fran are constant companions, although what, if anything, links the pair is vague at best.

Fran: A hero from FF12, Fran is a Viera, a race of anthropomorphic rabbit-esque creatures who live incredibly long lives, are incredibly wise and skilled, and who can communicate with both nature and the "other world", including the whisperings of summons and even the gods themselves. Fran begins the story as a warrior for Cosmos, and has a strong bond with Balthier. However, as the game progresses, strong areas of magickal power, manifested as "mist", cause Fran to more-or-less freak out, battling fellow heroes and otherwise wreaking havoc. Fran is unique in that she can communicate, or at least hear, whispers from beings others cannot---including, potentially, summons, The Great Will, Shinryu, and even Cosmos and Chaos themselves. As well, Fran learns more about the past and the true nature of the world they live in than perhaps anyone else, and fills in the blanks Zell's background leaves behind, making her an intriguing and important addition. As well as being skilled with a bow and magic, Fran can also summon a variety of (typically nature-based) beings into battle with her, since Viera are natural summoners.

Hope: A hero from FF13, Hope is a tragic young man bent on vengeance and finding solace. Called to the world by Cosmos, one of Hope's only memories of his life before is that of witnessing his mother's death, and the man he blames for that tragic loss. While for the first half of the game, Hope is deadset on finding this mysterious figure and exacting revenge, when he does finally meet the man he blames, his feelings shift. From then on, it becomes his only desire to finish the war, and return to his own world, and whatever happy memories exist there. Hope fights primarily through projectiles and magick, but like Lightning, can switch paradigms in the midst of battle to fit whatever role might be required.

Fang: A heroine from FF13, Fang is the headstrong, confident, snarky warrior from the lower-world, doomed to a mission she doesn't wish to fulfill. Her memory hazy at best, Fang was called by Cosmos to fight, and is among the goddess's most powerful current warriors. She fights with a spear, and like Hope, can switch Paradigms in battle, to either soak up damage, debuff her enemies, or simply mete out tons of damage to her foes. She remembers enough to recognize Hope, and takes the boy under her wing, but otherwise, her memories of a past life are all but non-existent. She forms a bond with Cid Raines, but is betrayed by him. In the end, she may or may not sacrifice herself to transform into Ragnarok and obliterate Chaos in this cycle.

Cid Raines: A villain from FF13, Cid originally seemed to want peace with those cursed with special powers, although when later cursed himself, changes his mind, opting for power, and allows himself to be manipulated by greater powers before eventually, and willingly, meeting his fate. A warrior summoned by Chaos, Cid nevertheless forms a bond with Fang, in hopes that the two sides can come to some kind of agreement, and stem the senseless slaughter. However, Chaos infuses him with power, and offers the man a temporary stay on his throne, so long as he removes some of the pests that are Cosmos's army. And so, he betrays his pact with Fang, but loses his life, in the end, to Chaos, who reclaims his power once the man has fulfilled his role in this cycle's war.

Noctis: A hero from FFVersus13, Noctis is the prince of his nation, and has near telekinetic control of a variety of weapons. Summoned by Cosmos, Noctis is a reluctant, cold warrior, and emotionally distant. In battle he is powerful, able to wield most weapons with skill. He remembers little of his world, except a betrayal from a trusted female companion, and his own otherworldly skills.

Stella: A heroine from FFVersus13, Stella is the princess of a rival nation, and is both romantic interest and rival to Noctis. Summoned by Chaos, Stella simply does not fit among his ranks, and spends much of her time in the company of Baralai, Beatrix, or Celes, or alone. Unlike Noctis, she remembers almost everything about her past, and is shattered by the knowledge that Noctis doesn't, and that he sees her as the enemy. A powerful magic-user, Stella makes up for her slight build with powerful magickal attacks.

Hidden/Unlockable Characters

Sabin: A hero from FF6, Sabin can be unlocked [at some point, possibly related to Celes/Locke storylines]. Like Zell, he is a famed unarmed combatant, and is joined almost everywhere by the feral youth Gau, who aids him in battle with monster skills. Sabin remembers the purpose of his previous life, but what, if anything else, he does remember is up to debate.

Quistis: A heroine from FF8, Quistis can be unlocked [at some point, possibly related to Zell/Rinoa/Seifer storylines]. Capable of using Blue Magic to learn enemy skills, Quistis also uses a whip, and is quite powerful in her own right. She remembers little of her past, but recognizes those from her world---and often chastizes Seifer for his obnoxiousness.

Dagger: A heroine from FF9, Dagger, or Garnet/Sarah, can be unlocked during the events related to Beatrix's moral dilemma. It is Dagger that Chaos sends Beatrix out to kill, but Beatrix remembers Dagger as the princess she has sworn to protect. Dagger can, like Rydia, summon powerful creatures into battle, and is also a decent mage and healer as well, and typically uses rods to fight. She remembers quite a bit about her world, apparently.

Ashe: A heroine from FF12, Ashe can be unlocked [at some point, possibly related to Fran/Balthier storylines]. Using a variety of weapons, including greatswords, to do battle, Ashe is fierce-willed and refuses to back down. As a potential puppet to Chaos, she remembers little of her past, besides that she is a displaced princess, and whether or not she recognizes Fran and Balthier is up to debate.

Snow: A hero from FF13, Snow can be unlocked after dealing with Hope's rage storylines, and those matters are resolved. Like Zell and Sabin, Snow focusses mainly on unarmed combat in battle, but like Fang and Hope, can swap roles when necessary. He remembers enough to recognize Hope, and manages to unwittingly talk the boy down, saving his own life in the process.

Vague and Sketchy Plot

In the eighth cycle of battle, Chaos and Cosmos each call a handful of new heroes and villains to join those returning from previous cycles. While at first they seem almost balanced, or even that Chaos might prove more powerful, many Chaos-oriented warriors eventually defect to Cosmos's side, upending the balance and eventually leading to Chaos's demise---a rare thing in the endless cycles.

Each character has their own story arcs, usually dealing with something vaguely related to their original stories in whatever games they've come from. Aside from the 27 playable cast members in the main story, you can unlock five additional characters through certain sidequests or story-related tales, rounding out the cast to 32 playable characters.

In essence, Chaos's warriors either die, defect, or otherwise are unable to keep the warriors from overthrowing him. Fang and/or Zack and/or others may or may not face down the god (in the case of Fang, becoming Ragnarok), and ultimately destroy Chaos, ending the eighth cycle with a rare victory for Cosmos and starting the ninth cycle with a quite unique set-up.

I have yet to fully work out who, specifically, has been involved in earlier cycles, and who will continue into the next one(s), but when I do, I'll add that too. I did throw out some guesses later in this post, though, so check those out.

Character Interactions

Since I didn't really delve into it before, here's a list of potential important interactions between the characters. Note, anyone who isn't mentioned during each character's overview means they either play a minimal role in that character's storyline, or otherwise don't get interacted with. So yes.

Red Mage: There is a small chance that his main "villain" will be Garland (who I may or may not deem important/around to include), or more than likely, Chaos himself. Red Mage is friendly enough with the other heroes of Cosmos, but for the most part, his most important interactions are with the gods themselves---Cosmos and Chaos. Cosmos he sees as either a motherly figure or love-interest, and Chaos as either rival for those affections, or the abusive step-father type. Potential non-Chaos villains he interacts with are up to debate.

Maria: Maria's main rival and connection is her brother, Leon, although she might also fight with a few other villains, particularly, perhaps, Celes and Seifer, although possibly also Stella, Baralai, or pretty much any of them. She acts as a surrogate mother/older sister to Rydia, and to a lesser extent, Hope, and gets along well with most of the other heroes. While she doesn't appreciate Balthier's antics, for the most part, she's the one making sure everyone gets along.

Leon: Leon interacts most with Maria, his rival and sister. Aside from this, he tends to be clumped in to Seifer's "posse", including himself, Seifer and Celes, and has unofficially made himself Stella's protector. He doesn't care for Balthier, and has little love for most of the Cosmos crew, but once he remembers his sister, he is fiercely loyal, regardless.

Desch: Desch's main antagonist is, obviously, Xande, although for what exact reason is unclear. As a wanderer, Desch is easy-going, and gets along well-enough with most of the other heroes, although tends to spend the most time with Faris, and to a lesser extent, probably Noctis, Locke, Zack, and maybe Red Mage.

Xande: Xande and Desch are enemies, although Xande seeks to disrupt the natural order of everything, which also means that a number of others, including Fran and even the gods themselves aren't too keen on what he's doing. At times he teams up with the occassional fellow Chaos-oriented villain, like Enuo or Cid, but for the most part his machinations are of the solo variety, much like the Emperor's were.

Rydia: Rydia's main antagonist is Zemus, but she also has trouble with Xande, Enuo, and Cid. Rydia is probably closest with Maria, but gets along well with a number of other Cosmos-oriented characters, and forms a unique bond with Vivi once he switches sides. Rydia can also communicate with (and may also visit the land of) the summons, which may prove to have some role.

Zemus/Zeromus: Zemus is the foe of Rydia, but very few characters actually keep Zemus's company, mainly since the villain doesn't see anyone else as worthy enough. As such, in life, his main connections tend to simply be Chaos, with a bit of Xande and Enuo thrown in for colour. Once he is felled the first time, his hatred infects Baralai, and may affect other characters, such as Seifer, Angeal, and possibly even Fran, and cause them to be much more active in their efforts in the war---occasionally to not-so-great-for-them ends.

Faris: Faris's main antagonist in Enuo. Aside from that, she mainly is seen in the company of Desch, Red Mage, Paine and Noctis, and spends the early parts of the game pretending to be male in order to appear tougher.

Enuo: Enuo and Faris spend the game at odds with one another, but the potential emergence of manikins due to his machinactions make him everyone's enemy. While he does occasionally conspire with Xande and Zemus, Enuo spends much time alone, and refuses to take orders from Chaos, seeing himself as the "third god" in this fight---the god of the Void. Obviously he gets proved wrong.

Locke: Locke is at odds with Celes for a good portion of the game, before convincing her to switch sides. Locke gets along quite well with Zell, and is decent friends with Desch, Rinoa, Paine, Hope and Fang as well. He and Balthier have a friendly rivalry, as each considers themselves the better treasure hunter and "leading man", which leads to some drama.

Celes: Celes and Locke spend the early game at odds, before she joins him on Cosmos's side. Aside from that, Celes spends much of the game in Seifer's "posse", along with Leon, and befriends Baralai, Beatrix and Stella as those, like her, who don't quite "fit" on Chaos's side. Once she joins Cosmos, she gets along well enough with her new teammates, although a few are less than eager to have her join them.

Zack: Zack's main antagonist is Angeal, although he'll fight anyone if given a reason. He and Zell get along surprisingly well, and he enjoys the company of quite a few of the other heroes, and keeps everyone's spirits up, particularly Rydia and Vivi's. While Hope finds his attitude a bit condescending, and Paine and Noctis mainly just wish he'd shut up, overall, he's quite well-liked.

Angeal: As Zack's antagonist, the pair spend much of the game trading blows, although aside from that, Angeal seems quite the solitary being. Spending most of his free-time searching out barely-remembered friends, while he occasionally interacts with others, both hero and villain alike, it's who he doesn't find that seems to be more the issue with Angeal.

Zell: Claiming Zell and Seifer don't get along is the understatement of the cycle. The two can't stand each other, and putting them together is a recipe for disaster. Aside from Seifer, Zell spends most of his time hanging out with Rinoa, as well as Zack, Locke, Balthier, Fran, Paine, Hope, and Fang. While some are annoyed by how much he talks, most get along well with him, especially since the boy seems to know so much about the world they're in, and the history behind it.

Rinoa: Rinoa has a complicated relationship with Seifer---at one time, they were lovers, but Rinoa now only has eyes for a mystery brunet that doesn't seem to exist in this world, and refuses to return Seifer's affections, something that doesn't bode well for anyone involved. She and Zell are quite close, and she otherwise typically can be seen with Fang, Hope, Fran, Paine, and Celes. She's a sucker for strays and lost causes, too, so anyone is a potential interaction, given the circumstances.

Seifer: Seifer loathes Zell, loves Rinoa, and hangs out with his posse of Leon and Celes when not aggravating or obsessing over the latter duo. Seifer will pick on anybody, which gets him into a lot of trouble, some of which is quite well-deserved. Aside from the obvious, Seifer also picks on Stella, causing Leon to appoint himself her protector, and likewise has few good words to say about pretty much everyone. Including Chaos.

Vivi: Vivi initially spars with Rydia and Red Mage, although quickly swaps sides, where he fights Beatrix for awhile. While Vivi briefly had a role in Seifer's posse (mostly being picked on), upon switching sides, the two rarely interact, aside from the odd taunt. Vivi and Rydia form a close bond, and Vivi otherwise gets along well enough with most of the rest of the cast.

Beatrix: Beatrix is initially Chaos's general, hunting down and slaughtering whomever she is told to. She spars with a number of heroes, particularly Red Mage, as well as Balthier and Fran, before being sent after Vivi went he switches sides. She too eventually defects, however, when forced to kill Dagger, and she joins the Cosmos warriors---although few, except former Chaos warriors like Celes, give her the time of day.

Paine: Paine is both friend and rival to Baralai, although much of the early game is spent avoiding the machinations of other villains, since hers appears rather docile in comparison. Paine bonds with Fang, and, to a lesser extent, Hope quite early on, as well as Zell, Rinoa, and Locke. A woman of silence, however, she would appreciate it if her fellow heroes weren't quite so loud (here's looking at you, Zack and Zell).

Baralai: Baralai and Paine were once friends, and are now rivals, although through the early parts of the game, Baralai manages to avoid conflict. He gets along well enough with Stella and Beatrix, and to a lesser extent Angeal and Seifer's posse, but otherwise tries to avoid them all. Unfortunately, near the end of the game he is infected by Zeromus, the rage causing him to attempt to destroy the world and all those standing in his way. Fun times. ..not so much.

Balthier: Closest to Fran, they spar at least once during the course of the game, due to Fran's sensitivity to "the mist". Balthier's desire to be "the leading man" gets him into trouble, specifically at the hands of Beatrix, Angeal and Cid, and a few of his own compatriots wouldn't mind beating on him occasionally, as well. He gets along well enough with most of the other cast, But Fran is definitely his main source of companionship.

Fran: Closest with Balthier, she ends up fighting him on at least one occasion, due to her sensitity to "the mist". She also faces off with at least one or two other heroes during that period. The "mist" may or may not be a biproduct of Zemus's rage, although it could have to do with Rydia's primary summon, or even the massive number of highly skilled magickal beings during this cycle of the war. Whatever the case, she is quiet enough, but she and Zell have a connection---together, both manage to fill in most of the blanks regarding the background of the war, and what their purposes is the cycle truly are. Fran is easy-going, and gets along with everyone, although some are hesitant in her company, either due to her appearance, or the fact she goes a little crazy under various conditions...

Hope: Hope is closest to Fang, although a number of heroes act as pseudo-guardians, including Maria, and he gets along well enough with Rydia, Locke, Paine, and particularly Zell. His main antagonist early on is Snow, who only truly makes an appearance right before Hope plans on finishing him off, although circumstances lead to Hope accepting Snow and forgiving him for his role, and moving on. Hope then turns his anger towards Chaos, and funnels his rage to more appropriate targets...like Cid Raines.

Fang: Fang takes on the role of surrogate older sister to Hope, and the pair are fairly inseparable for most of the early game. Fang is worried about Hope's vengeful rage, but figures he needs it to survive in this new world, so allows him to use it as a guiding light, while she brokers peace with Cid. However, her relationship with Cid is shatters when he betrays her, and they eventually become enemies. Fang is close enough to the majority of the heroes, particularly with Zell, Rinoa, and Locke, and finds quite a bit in common with Paine. Unlike many of the Cosmos warriors, she's willing to see past the blur of Cosmos/Chaos, and welcomes each new member willingly...sometimes with tragic results, as we see with Cid.

Cid Raines: Cid begins the game forging a pact with Fang, in the hopes that this war can be stopped without more bloodshed. Things seem to be going well enough on that front, too, since many of Chaos's chosen seem perfectly fine with not continuing to fight, however, Chaos intervenes, and coerces Cid into a new pact---one that leads to Cid betraying Fang and starting the war anew. As a temporary conduit for Chaos, Cid commands his fellow warriors to fight---and some don't take too kindly to that. Go figure.

Noctis: Noctis is a solitary figure, for the most part, although does spend some time with Fang, Hope, and Paine, as well as Faris, Desch and Red Mage. His primary connection is to Stella, who he sees as having betrayed him, his memory skewered. They spar, although eventually she convinces him she is not the enemy, and they join forces. Noctis also ends up sparring with Angeal, Beatrix, and a number of other villains over the course of his story as well.

Stella: Stella loves Noctis, and can't understand why they're fighting. She doesn't wish to be on Chaos's side, and is picked on by Seifer, whilst being protected unofficially by Leon. She, Baralai, and Celes get along ok, and she was one of the Chaos warriors backing Cid whilst he worked on his pact with Fang. When that falls through, she ends up switching sides anyway---being hunted down by Beatrix, Cid, and a variety of others. Of the Cosmos crew, most are hesitant of her, although Fang befriends her immediately, and Zell, Rinoa and Hope get along well enough with her as well.

Sabin: Once unlocked, Sabin spends the majority of his time wandering around with Gau, his constant companion. He gets along well with Locke and Celes, obviously, and he and Zell make excellent sparring partners...along with Snow, who he also spends the occasional quest with. Like most of the unlockable characters, he will probably be limited to his interactions, and just what he does, and who he hangs around with, is up to debate.

Quistis: Like Sabin, once she is unlocked, she is mainly seen with Rinoa and Zell. However, certain other characters, such as the other unlockable heroes and a few choice others, like perhaps Rydia also spend time with her, potentially. Again, just who spends time with her is up to debate.

Dagger: Again, once unlocked, she spends time with Vivi and Beatrix, mainly, as her main story revolves around Beatrix having a moral dilemma after being told to kill her. Dagger gets on quite well with Rydia, a fellow summoner, as well as Rinoa and a handful of other heroes. Just who is a matter of debate.

Ashe: Once unlocked, Ashe will spend most of her time with Balthier and Fran, although she does spend time with a handful of others---likely Paine, Fang, perhaps Faris, as a fellow disenfranchised princess, and possibly Dagger. As typical with the unlockable characters, just who she hangs out with is up to debate.

Snow: Once unlocked, Snow spends much of his time befriending Hope and Fang, although he also spends time with others, namely Sabin and Zell, fellow blond brawlers. Like the other unlockables, who else he hangs out with is a matter of debate, however Zack, Locke, and Balthier are probably decent enough suggestions.

The Cycles Continue

Was at the very least in one previous cycle: Red Mage, Desch (likely slept through at least Cycle 007), Xande, Rydia, Zemus, Enuo, Locke, Zell, Rinoa, Dagger, Beatrix, Fang, Hope, Snow, Stella.

Might have been in one previous cycle, but not positive: Faris, Sabin, Zack, Quistis, Vivi, Paine, Baralai, Balthier, Fran, Cid, Noctis.

Most likely NOT in a previous cycle: Maria, Leon, Angeal, Seifer, Ashe.

Continues into the next cycle: Not certain yet. Likely the majority of the Cosmos warriors, and maybe one or two odd still-Chaos-at-the-end warriors.

Is lost during this cycle: Cid, likely Zemus, Enuo, and Xande (although Zemus and Enuo may return), and possibly Angeal, Zack, and Fang. Maybe Red Mage. Possibly Desch. Vivi, Seifer and Beatrix might also die. Ditto potentially Stella and Noctis. Maybe Paine and Baralai. Maybe Fran.

Pick a Side

Chaos side: Leon, Xande, Zemus, Enuo, Celes, Angeal, Seifer, Vivi, Beatrix, Baralai, Cid, Stella.

Cosmos side: Red Mage, Maria, Desch, Rydia, Faris, Locke, Zack, Zell, Rinoa, Paine, Balthier, Fran, Hope, Fang, Noctis.

Chaos->Cosmos: Leon, Celes, Seifer?, Vivi, Beatrix?, Baralai?, Stella
