He felt so bad for her. Jason would never turn her away, and it was a shame she didn't know that. Of course, there would be no complain on his part. Strum enjoyed having her around. How long had it been since he had someone else to cook for? Stupid question. The answer to that was he had never had someone else to cook for. Five years since he had become what he was. He was practically still a child when it happened. Before then he was so terribly focused on himself and his business, just as he was now, but then he wasn't hiding from anything. It had taken him five years and almost losing himself for him to figure out that there was nothing to hide from. Now he was getting back to life, almost starting over. Jessica was a piece to the puzzle of the wake up call he needed. He barely knew the girl, but he wanted nothing more than her company. She was the first to want to stick around, even if her only reason was to bug him.
"You let me sleep last night," he corrected her. Sure, she had been a pain in the ass when she first arrived, but the cuddling was more than worth it. Obviously she had no idea that she had made his night. Hell, she had made his week. He almost felt bad for not worrying about how upset she was over not seeing Jason first. He loved that she came to him before Jason, the Ulfric and her sponsor. "Well, my couch is always open," he said with a soft smile, "but warn me next time, okay?" The last part was only half a joke. Sure, he loved her turning up in the middle of the night, without the middle of the night part. Strum was sure her company would be far more enjoyable if she waited until he was awake to pester him.
Strum noticed how quickly Jessica's behavior changed when Jason arrived. It was a complete turnaround. Was she afraid of him? If she was, he only got the impression that it was like a daughter afraid of the scolding she was sure to get from her father after doing something she probably shouldn't have. That was fine, he was sure whatever she had done couldn't have been too bad. Even if it was, they had all had their share. Strum was not the best wolf when he was first turned, and he was almost positive Jason wasn't either. It was all preventable, of course, and that was what Jason's job was. Strum would help in absolutely any way he could, especially if it meant less lonely nights.
Jason noticed her fear, too. "Quit being so intimidating, then," he joked, not at all taking Jason's worry seriously. "Don't worry too much about it. She's new. Give her time and she'll come around," he told his friend. "Really, though, she should be more afraid of me. One of these days I'm going to eat her and you won't have anyone to sponsor." He laughed then, hoping Jason didn't take him too seriously. As annoying as Jessica was, it was entirely an empty threat. Even if he was vicious, she had done nothing too deserving of it. Not yet, anyway. Strum was more than sure she would push buttons as time went on, buttons that may lead to her becoming someone's snack.
Seeing Jessica return still wearing his shirt he frowned. "You can't leave with that," he said. He wanted his clothing to remain his, and in hi closet. What was the point of Jason bringing her clothes if she was just going to wear his. Not that he minded it while she was in his home, but she wasn't going to stay there all morning, and he didn't want her taking off with his things. Not that she had ruined the last set that he loaned her. Quite the opposite. She had returned all of it back to him in excellent condition. That wasn't the problem. The problem was she now had a perfectly good shirt of her own and she was electing to wear his instead. Stupid him for being offended by it, really.
Finishing up the food on the stove, he listened to her story. A fight? Well, he should have figured. Laughing, he responded to her insistence that the guy deserved it with, "I'm sure he did." Even if he hadn't, Strum had been there before. In the heat of the moment, blood boiling and wolf rising, it was easy to see a stranger as an assailant. It was a fight or flight sort of thing, and Jessica had chosen the former. She was going to have to be taught to control that a little better, but Strum didn't blame her one bit for it. He had assaulted a man for less in his early days. Of course, he wasn't sure exactly what his reaction would be to a man putting his hands on him. He let out a tiny chuckle at the thought, but really he shuddered on the inside.
Flipping the hamburgers onto a plate, Strum listened to the rest of her story. He laughed again when she said she broke the guy's nose. "I bet he wasn't too happy about that," he said. Jason did a decent job handling the scolding. Really, it had been a lot less severe than he had expected, which was good. He had really been off put by her being intimidated, huh? Oh, well. If it made him a nicer person, then Strum was not going to complain. Jessica definitely needed to be handled delicately when Jason was doing the handling. It amazed Strum how much she wanted to avoid Trinity. The girl wasn't all that bad, and she even wanted to help. Still, he could understand that. In the beginning Strum hadn't liked her much, either. That was for entirely different reasons, though. That was all in the past, and Jason was working on being a better Ulfric to his people.
Setting the plate on the counter, Strum moved to the fridge to rummage through and pull out condiments, cheese, whatever went good with hamburgers, really. He looked up from the fridge to shoot a quit glower in Jason's direction in response to the getting out of the house comment. Kicking it closed, he set the condiment on the counter and let out a grumble when he realized he was out of hamburger buns. "I guess bread will have to do," he said, pulling plates down from the cabinets. Luckily he had a half bag of Lays to make up for the lack of buns. After Jason left he was going to make up a grocery list. It was ridiculous how low he was on food. That's what happens when he puts everything off until the last minute.
He placed the food and plates on the table just in time for Jason to say something about him hurrying. "You know what? I think you can starve, you ingrate," he told Jason with a glower. Of course, it was a joke, and he laughed soon after. Sitting down in the chair on the other side of Jessica, he looked to Jason and then her. "You better eat something before you go anywhere," he instructed, "Can't have you shifting in the alley again." Speaking of, he kind of wanted to go. He didn't want to sit around all day if he had nothing to do. His only real business was Dawn, and she could always call him if she needed him. It wasn't as if leaving his home meant his cell phone immediately stopped working.
"Do you think I could come with this time?" he asked hopefully, "I mean, I don't really have anything to do today." Really, though, why would Jason say no? They weren't going anywhere special. Just back to where Jessica had been to hopefully retrieve her things. She really should have copies of everything made just in case she shifted in the middle of nowhere again. All though, he thought it would be best if she had someone with her to prevent that. He wasn't entirely opposed to accompanying her the next time she went out. It would give him something to do, and someone to hang around.

Strums comment that she wouldn’t be leaving in his shirt only made her feel like being disobedient…again. “Planning on removing it yourself?” She shot back, sticking her tongue out at him. She might changed before she left to cut him a break, but at the same time her wolf wanted to keep it for a few days. It smelled like Strum, which always made her feel at home, having the scent of another wolf in her home made her feel less lonely. Hell she’d be lying if she said the last outfit was only worn for the ride back to her hotel, she’d ended up changing back into the last outfit to sleep in quiet a few times between taking it and washing it to be returned. Jessica wasn’t sure how Strum did it, stayed here, alone, everyday. Even Jason had someone to go home to, maybe that was why her wolf always wanted to come here, it wasn’t favoring one over the other, it was because she wanted to keep him company. Odd desire considering how much he liked to act as if he disliked having her here, but after last night she felt he was starting to enjoy having her craziness in his home every now and again. Hell, if she was here more often he might actually get to see her when she was calm and not trying to push his buttons.
A sigh of relief left her when neither of them threatened to eat her or yelled at her for what she had done. The fact that Jason seemed happy that was all she’d done made her feel better, along with the hand on her shoulder which only confirmed how helpful it was to have pack member within touching distance. Maybe that was another problem her wolf had, Jason’s girlfriend wanted to help, but her wolf like being touched, and she wasn’t sure the woman would appreciate too much petting. Feeling like that was just an odd thing to point out right now, she kept it to herself. Jason didn’t know they’d fallen asleep together, and unless Strum brought it up, she’d keep her mouth shut unless he really needed to know.
Thankfully the subject was currently on getting her possessions back. She remembered exactly where she had been, and if she was lucky, Jason was right and her things would be there waiting for her. If anything people considering taking it might avoid it with the tattered clothing lying around out of fear of what evidence they would leave behind at a potential crime scene. What she hadn’t been expecting was Strum asking to come with them, figuring he was once again ready to boot her out as quickly as he could get her out of his hair. The surprise was clear on her face, and she’d even stopped mid chew to look at him as if waiting for him to say he was joking. When he didn’t, she swallowed and looked at Jason with a shrug, “Three noses and three pairs of eyes would be better than two.” She pointed out, before realizing Strum was sort of lying.
“You do have something to do today. If you honestly think I’m going to eat your food after seeing your empty fridge and not make you go grocery shopping you’re crazy.” She pointed out, not about to mooch off him without at least making sure he restocked his fridge. Hell she had nothing to do after she found her stuff, part of her was tempted to help him out. However she felt like after they found her belongings, Jason and she would have work to do. More tips for her to help control her wolf and depending on his schedule, she might have to meet his girlfriend in case another shift happened before the next full moon. It was only a few weeks away, and she felt she could control herself until then, but she’d thought that last night as well.
That was when she realized, she still had no idea what Strum did for a living. She’d learned plenty about her sponsor the last few weeks, but almost nothing about the man she’d spent her entire night in bed with. It felt odd to her, and her own curiosity finally won over. “Why don’t you have work?” Her burger now finished, she waited patiently for the boys, legs back to swinging away happily beneath her chair, every now and again lightly brushing against Strums shins. The first time she thought about apologizing and stopping, then she realized it was simply too much fun toying with him, so she kept swinging away lightly.

Jason didn't have time to comment on Strums response as Jessica arrived again. Be less intimidating. Jason didn't know if he could be any less intimidating then he already was. Jason didn't think he was intimidating. He imagined that he seemed average. And was only intimidating when angry. At least that's what he thought. He was so good at hiding what he was that he almost seemed passive compared to some other lycanthropes. The police hadn't even figured out he was a lycanthrope till he smashed a table. Jason rarely let that anger out and he was provoked that time. But all in all Jason didn't think he was that bad. It was just the reputation he had forced on himself that made him sad. It was one he was trying to get free of.
He was glad at least that he handled it well and she seemed to get his point. He was reassuring as he could be given the situation and he really wasn't upset with her. But she had taken a risk and she needed to know that. He couldn't let his love life inhibit his responsibility. He just couldn't anymore. It had almost cost him everything the last time and he had learned his lesson quickly. Trin was ok with what he did. And That was great, but he had to convince Jess that it was ok to rely on him if only a little bit. She seemed at least to be warming up to the idea and if he could he would sneak a meeting with Trin into the group scheduled tonight.
Jason frowned slightly as Strum told him he could starve but he knew he was kidding. It was all in good fun. Almost as soon as the food was on the table Jason was eating. He couldn't deny he was hungry considering he hadn't had lunch yet. He and Trin had breakfast that morning but that was hours ago and Jason was hungry indeed. He looked at Strum when he asked his question like he had bitten the face off of a rabbit in human form. He should have known better then to ask that. Of course he could come. Hell Jason had been waiting for an excuse to get him out of the house in between full moons. He needed to get this guy out more. " You don't even have to ask. You know that. There is plenty of room. Should we take my truck though or your car is the question." He said with a smile before Jess took her stab at the groceries
" She does have a point my brother you are starting to look a little thin.We can go find her stuff first before it disappears, go grocery shopping for you and then go have dinner some place. Maybe hang out at my place afterwords to get everyone introduced. How does that sound?" He threw the suggestion to both of them. He was fine editing it but at least he had a plan to start with.

The mixture of her taunt and stuck out tongue earned Jessica a frown from Strum. It had been in jest, though. He showed this by smirking back at her and saying, “Don’t tempt me.” He had no real intentions of removing his shirt from her body. It was sort of flattering how much she liked wearing his clothes, and he could understand the fascination. The shirt must have smelled like him, even if it had been cleaned. More importantly, the shirt had to have smelled of pack. For a new wolf, or any wolf, really, the smell of pack was extremely important. Sighing, trying his best to look exhausted from arguing about it, he caved. “All right,” he said, “Keep it. But your other clothes stay here. Just in case.” It was a reasonable exchange, he thought.
Her sigh of relief fought off his visible exhaustion. How worried had Jessica been that they were going to be angry with her? Strum completely understood her reaction. Most of the time, a new wolf had very little control of their actions when their emotions were high. He knew how that felt. Plus, they were lucky that she had only broken the man’s nose. Her wolf had felt threatened and had reacted the best way it knew to protect its host; it could not be faulted for that. At least she was not skittish around her alphas. Strum did not want to be tiptoeing around her while she learned to cope with herself and her wolf.
A nod was the only agreement Strum offered when Jessica agreed to him tagging along. Jason, too, had no problem with it. It was true that having more people around to look for her things would help. One of the highlights of having Jessica around, getting her scent all over his things, was that he would know what she smelled like enough to be helpful looking for the things she had lost. The clothes she was missing would be no good obviously, but hopefully her wallet, keys, and whatever else she lost would still be intact and where she had left it. Otherwise she was going to be a bit screwed over for the time being.
Jessica pointed out that Strum’s pantry was a bit bare, and he awarded her with a slight grimace. “Is that an order?” he asked, restoring his facial features to their default position so as not to let her believe he was upset with her. Jason made a list of things they needed to do, agreeing that Strum needed groceries. He groaned in defeat, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms. “Fine,” he said, “It will give us more time to keep an eye on the pup here.” He laughed as he pointed towards Jessica. Grocery shopping was not something he took excitement in, but maybe it would be more enjoyable with other people around to do it with. A small part of him, however, was suspicious that Jess might end of weaseling her own things into his food collections.
Raising a brow at her question, Strum realized it might not have been completely obviously why he stayed at home all the time. It was one of the many benefits of being a successful published author. “I’m a writer,” he explained with a shrug. “It lets me stay home.” Plus he loved doing it. That was always important. To him, at least. Too many people went to work their whole life, hating everything they did. Strum was one of the lucky few, and he would revel in every bit of the reward. As long as he stayed up on top of all the work, he would never feel like he was actually working.
Her swinging feet bumped his shins. At first she apologized, and he offered her a smile to show he did not hold it against her, but that soured as she continued to do it. He was starting to get a feel for exactly how much she enjoyed tormenting him. Not that he minded all of it. If she would only wait until he was completely awake and non-busy, then Strum would have absolutely no problem indulging her wild side. Jessica just seemed to have an innate ability to sense when she wasn’t wanted and then pounce at that exact moment. Eventually she would learn her lesson and stop, or he would eat her. Hopefully he would not have to result to cannibalism.
Professional Jason was all about getting down to work. Strum was all for that then, because he would rather be busy with company than bored alone. “If I’m to do grocery shopping, then it might make more sense to take my car,” he suggested. A little wince was his reply to Jason’s comment on his weight. Shaking his head he said, “That is none of your business.” They were going to do shopping. That did not mean Strum was going to gorge himself on what was bought.

Jessica found she was out of smart remarks for Strum when he playfully warned her not to tempt him. Mainly because she was too busy trying not to blush at the thought, so instead she looked away and straight at her plate, finishing her food to avoid having to talk. It was rude to talk with food in your mouth after all, she would simply not reply to it and instead focus on the other points of the conversation. It helped that Jason was there, it was easier not to encourage possible flirting when there was a third party watching. Her clothes were staying here though, and that made her smile. He had said just in case, but that still meant he expected her to end up here again, and instead of kicking her out, was simply making sure his home was ready to deal with her.
Not that having her own clothes here would really prevent his shirts from running away, but she would let him figure that out next time she woke up in his home. Jess knew deep down that when it came right down to it, she would have to listen to him when it was important, Jason and Strum were alphas, and her wolf was not even close to ready to actually make them angry. Testing her limits though was hardly something she could resist doing, she had to know what she could and couldn’t get away with in terms of how she acted with them. This whole thing was knew, but the more she heard from them and read online from others, packs were a family.
While she far from expected it to be an instant connection, she was trying to be comfortable with them as quickly as she could. These two were easy, it was the rest of the pack that she was still nervous about. If someone disliked her, it would make it difficult, and it would be so many new people all at once, she was worried she would say or do something stupid in front of them. The first full moon would be around soon enough, she hoped by then she would be able to control her wolf and have as smooth of a night as possible. Jason would be by her side, he’d told her that much at least, as her sponsor he was suppose to be there for everything she needed help with. As her Ulfric as well, it made it easier to control her if her emotions got out of hand. There would be two wolves there she could count on to keep her out of trouble, but it was still something to be nervous about.
The leg swinging was her pushing limits again, first had been an accident, but after that was just her way of being playful. Jess knew it space it out though, she didn’t make contact every time, and most of them were now just the lightest of grazes. When he agreed to go, her mood was simply through the roof. Her new life was difficult to adjust to, but she couldn’t imagine doing any of this on her own. If she wasn’t dead she would’ve been arrested at this point had she been alone. Even if she had stayed though, she did not picture her ex making this easy for her. Jessica was not foolish enough to believe every pack was like this with newcomers, and she was grateful she chose the city with the nicer ones.
Laughing at Strums refusal to comment on his weight, she finally stopped her torment under the table and stood, gathering the empty plates to put them in the sink. “Well I’m ready to go whenever you are, I think I can still vaguely remember where my clothes should be.”
