Connor shut his cell phone and simply held it to his lips for a moment as he stared out at the wilderness around him. It was a pre-paid, something no one else knew he had save for one person. His master, and while Connor knew the day would come, part of him had simply began to think Ian would never be able to get in touch with him, that they would never find the plan they needed to take back what Isobel and Jason had simply taken away from them, from everyone they knew.
Yet the phone had rang, and his orders had been made clear. He was to take action tomorrow, during the full moon, take the one he felt would get their attention. Newbies were always easy, because they had no idea what his position was with the pack, but he smelled like pack, and they were terrified of their new lives and needed direction. He was strong enough to dominate just about all of them, save of course Strum and his Ulfric, alone he would need some sort of advantage to beat either of them, and it would need to be a very good advantage.
For the past few months he’d been quiet, like he was suppose to be, but he hadn’t been staying out of things. His ears listened to everything, picked up whatever information they could from whoever was talking away about it. Everyone always talked when there was someone new to the pack, they had to give everyone a heads up about there being a new face on the full moon. This girl, Jessica, he’d found out a bit, mostly that they had found her in Strums place, then again the second time she shifted out of anger. It told him that she, for whatever reasons, was drawn to the man. Since he never kicked her out before Jason arrived to pick her up, Connor believed he cared for her, enough that if she were to be in danger, he would react, probably much stronger than he realized.
Her first full moon, she would be on edge, unsure of herself, and as soon as he had an opportunity to have her alone, away from the others, he would have to take her. A simple tranquilizer would do the trick, she wouldn’t even have time to fight back let alone make much indication that she was in any danger. By the time they realized she hadn’t returned to them, they would be gone, and with everyone’s scent all over the area, there wouldn’t be any strong indication that he was responsible. A new wolf must have simply wandered off on her on.
--------------------------
It had taken forever. Connor had kept his distance from the pack as he always did, now only allowed to be in the area, but if he lingered around the others too long, Jason got irritated and would usually start barking orders at him as if he were stepping out of line. So he always stayed off to the edges of the group, and usually once others shifted, he would leave. So it wouldn’t seem odd if he left early again tonight.
Finally though, something snapped inside the girl, and in the middle of Strum and Jason talking, Jessica and Dawn went at it. He couldn’t help but smirk as it was obvious to him why, because he’d been paying close attention to the two. Jealousy was a very angry monster, especially when put into a werewolf who believed someone was trying to take what felt like theirs. Jessica wanted Strum, and Dawns actions had made her feel territorial. Whether the two knew they had driven each other to that point he wasn’t sure, but he was sure as soon as Strum defended Dawn and Jason pulled Jessica away, that the girl was going to be very, very angry.
Which she was, and as soon as she convinced Jason she needed time alone, he waited until Jason busied himself discussing the matter with Strum before slipping away from the group. Finding her was easy, and she didn’t even jump or get angry when he approached. “It’s natural, attacking another women in the pack if you feel she’s being far too handsy with your man.” He stated, unable to help find how cute it was when she blushed and looked at the ground as if she hadn’t thought anyone would notice. Which meant she hadn’t actually told Strum how she felt, this was far too perfect.
“I’m Connor.” He said, extending his hand, and as soon as her took his to shake, barely through telling him her name, he yanked her body towards him and jammed the needle into her neck. The red head went to call out, but the drug kicked in before her voice could pick up very much. As her body went limp in his arms, he carefully tossed her over his shoulder before carrying her to his truck, parked far away from the others.
------------------
Connor gave a small sigh as he finished tying the girl up in the basement. He’d wrapped a thick chain around her neck and wrapped that around on of the thick metal support beams. He hated treating someone who had done nothing wrong like this, but she had unknowingly picked the wrong side of a war no one knew was still going on. Once he was sure she wasn’t getting out of her binds, he went upstairs to wait. Ian had promised to stop as soon as possible today to make sure that Connor had succeeded, and he needed his Master to come tell him what to do next.

Time ticked by, but Ian sat firmly planted at his desk. Daylight, he was sure burned outside, lighting the entire city. It was not that he did not welcome the light, but he had grown to detest it as of late. He had grown to detest everything. Life itself lacked the luster it had once held for him. The only thing left was vengeance, and he would have that soon enough. It was all he thought about anymore. He had become wary of thinking too hard, though. Even knowing the impossibility of it, Sebastian had a sinking feeling that the necromancer knew what he was plotting. How could he have? Still, the improbability of it all did not stop him from thinking it.
Checking the clock placed beside him, Ian saw it was late evening. The sun would surely be setting by then. What were the chances that Connor had completed the task with which he had been assigned? No, surely not yet. He would not take too long, though. Not on the night of the full moon. Doing so would be foolish. Even with the power Sebastian offered Connor, the wolf could only stave off the call of the moon for so long. The night would not be long on before the girl would give into it. Would Ian want to be there before that? He pondered that for a while and decided it would be best if he did, just to make sure everything went smoothly.
People were beginning to stir in the halls. Even with the night beginning to take hold, Ian was sure he still had enough time to finish the letter he had been writing. It was sort of a pathetic hobby he had picked up recently. Always the same time of day he would sit down to his desk and write a letter to his dearly departed Master. All the letters were stashed untidily under his pillow. That was where they would lay forever since they could never be received. So that was what he was doing. Sitting at his desk, writing a letter to someone who would never read it. No one would ever read them. Regardless, they made Sebastian feel better about his unfortunate circumstances.
Love always, Ian He signed, finalizing the letter that would never be sent. Heaving a hefty sigh, Ian folded the paper, stood, and carried it over to his bed. Tucking it under his pillow, he felt in his pocket for his cell phone. No calls, no messages. He was not sure if Connor would be contacting him when the job was finished. Either way, they had agreed on a meeting time, and Ian would be sticking to that. Time was almost up, and for that he was glad. Things were finally getting done. He had waited a whole year, but he would finally be doing something about the mess of things. Things would finally get put right one step at a time.
The mass chaos that was the full moon would have been more than enough distraction for Connor to do as he had to. The girl was just a pawn in a larger game. She probably was not going to like the way the game played out, but life is not fair. As long as she played along and behaved herself, well, she would be fine. Lucky for Ian, Connor had known the perfect girl for their plan. He was such a clever kid, always having the missing piece to Sebastian's puzzles. That made all of the scheming so much easier. It was never as fulfilling when he did everything by himself.
With no time left before their designated meeting, Ian arrived outside of the cabin Connor had set up for everything. Clever and resourceful. Sebastian was certainly lucky to have such a card in his hand. Knocking on the door, he waited for an answer. While he waited, he fished around, breathing his power down into the wolf. He could feel the man's hesitation, see his resistance. If Sebastian was not careful, his wolf was going to go soft on him. There was no room in this war for bleeding hearts or sympathy, and Connor should have known that by now.

Jessica felt stupid, embarrassed, and suddenly very alone. Why had she acted like that? It had been such a childish thing to do, attacking Dawn just for how she was acting with her sponsor. It was none of her business how the two were together, but the more she remembered how quickly and easily he’d defended her, the angrier her wolf became. Hell, they were lucky she hadn’t shifted first and tried to rip Dawn’s throat out, that was what the wolf wanted. She didn’t want to be nice, she wanted the girl to back off, but Strum wasn’t hers. That thought made her heart ache, and as she practically growled at Jason as he dragged her away from Dawn and tried asking her what was wrong, she was too busy shaking from anger to figure out how to answer.
At first she didn’t, because she didn’t want to defend herself, she didn’t feel she should have to. Her eyes were still glued on Strum and Dawn before Jason demanded her attention so she could focus on the question. Why had she done it? “Because I don’t like her!” She snarled at him, having to fight to keep from yelling, “Didn’t you see what she was doing?! Throwing herself all over him like that, batting her stupid eyelashes at every comment she made like some innocent little thing. She’s nothing but a tramp and my wolf wanted to make it very clear she needs to back off, he’ m-“ Her voice finally cracked as she stopped herself from saying ‘mine’.
Her eyes felt hot as the real reason she attacked the girl became pretty clear, jealousy, plain and simple jealousy over someone she hadn’t actually told she had feelings for. Not about to start crying about it, especially in front of the others, she convinced Jason she needed space, a few minutes alone before everyone shifted and then she wouldn’t have to talk about it anymore.
She was full of stupid decisions today though, first attacking Dawn, then wandering away from the pack on one of the most stressful nights of the month. She wanted to slam her head against a tree until she felt like herself, but she didn’t have time. Connor showed up, and for a moment she felt safer, at least someone had known what was wrong with her without her having to explain it. Not that it did her any good, she tried to scream out when he yanked her towards him, but everything simply faded away before she could.
-------------------------
Waking with a start, she pushed herself up off the cold cement floor, her legs shaking and caving once before she realized there was a weight around her neck. With the full moon already in the sky, she panicked, barely able to keep from shifting as she began tugging at the thick chain in an attempt to break it. All her commotion caused whoever was upstairs to realize she was awake, and as soon as Connor was in her sight, she snarled and tried to attack him, but as soon as she was within reach of him, he had an easy time grabbing one of her wrists and twisting it harshly behind her back.
“I wouldn’t do that Jessica. All you need to do is behave yourself, your Ulfric will be along soon, and once he does as we need him to, you can go home.”
The way he said Ulfric made it sound like he was saying something disgusting. She didn’t know what his issue with Jason was, but she didn’t like that he was trying to use her as bait for him. She also didn’t like that until the full moon was over, the chances of them noticing she was in trouble were slim, even if anyone did, Jason had the pack to look after before he’d be able to get here. It gave her time to try and escape, but she wasn’t sure how much that would work once she shifted.
A knock sounded upstairs, and they both glanced at the ceiling. That was when it hit her, the presence upstairs, the way Connor seemed to shudder at something she couldn’t really see. However she could feel it, the vampire, her senses knowing what he was, and even worse, how he was making her wolf react. Cringing, she felt her body began to ache, Connor released her and she fell to the floor as she began shifting.

Connor grew impatient as the time slipped by, closer and closer to when his master was suppose to arrive and they would discuss how tomorrow would play out. Staring outside, her finally heard Jessica stirring downstairs, and made his way down to deal with her. He’d expected her to be angry, and he hated having to use such force on her, she didn’t really stand much of a chance, especially not chained up while a drug wore itself off. However, it wasn’t like he could let her attack him either, Ian would be here any minute, and he couldn’t let his master believe he cared at all how things played out for this girl. The girl would give them Jason, and that was the only thing that mattered, getting rid of Jason, and then, that bitch who’d taken over the city.
Glancing up as he felt his master draw near, he shuddered when he felt his power rush over him. That was what brought him to his senses, he knew his master would sense hesitation, and he couldn’t allow that. With Ian here, and the girl screaming as she shifted at his feet, he pulled out his cell phone and dialed the Ulfrics home number. That slut he was seeing, the one sleeping with a vampire as well, she wasn’t home, he’d checked to make sure. She had been their first target, but she would make that vampire alert, and they didn’t want both groups aware of their plans at once. They’d start with Jason, then deal with anyone who kneeled before the woman in charge.
Once voicemail picked up, he waited for the beep before holding the phone out, just allowing it to record Jessica screaming, as much as she fought not to, all it did was make it sound worse. Finally, she was in wolf form, and while she recovered, he made sure the chain around her neck was not something she could slip out of. Putting the phone up to his ear, he couldn’t help but smirk. “Little red seems to have wandered off in the woods, foolish thing to do with the big bad wolf around.”
As the wolf came to, she did exactly as he’d hoped, she growled and lunged at him, but all he had to do was grab part of the chain and yank on it hard. It choked her and slammed her into the ground with a whimper. “You’re going to come to me. Alone. If you don’t, then your wolf will die and it will be your fault.” He left directions on how Jason could find him before hanging up and making his way around Jessica and upstairs.
Opening the door, he felt relieved to finally be seeing his master, not just hearing him on the phone. Him being here made him feel more confident about the whole situation. He stepped aside to allow him in, “As you asked, the wolf is chained up downstairs, and Jason has the message, she helped ensure it sounded urgent enough that he follow orders.”
Which meant this was really happening, they were going to try and kill Jason, and soon after, Isobel and her kiss. That necromancer of hers was going to be a problem, but not for Connor, he could simply devour the man if he got the chance, but they had to wait for that chance. Hopefully it would come with Jason’s death, and once the necromancer was gone, his master could fix their city and bring back the old ways. “What do we do next?”

The hesitance was not something Sebastian had wanted to feel when he saw his wolf for the first time in a year. It made him uneasy. Truthfully he had been a bit wary of continuing their plans as well, but he had a suspicion it was not for the same reason. That necromancer was trouble, more than he was worth. Now that was not the issue, though. Ian was sure he had been careful enough that only Connor knew of the happenings. If anyone else found it, he was certain it would not be his own fault. How could it be when he been so careful to cover his tracks. But what about Connor? How careful had the boy been to make sure only the two of them knew of the plan? If he had let it slip to anyone else, well then there would be hell to pay. Ian had not wasted the last year of his life to let his vengeance fall to pieces.
"It sounds as if she was not quite finished with her performance," he said. his eyes directed toward the floor as he spoke. The noise he heard below was distracting, but not unsettling. She was loud and distraught for obvious reasons. Still, Ian felt no remorse. She had walked into the middle of a war no one knew was still waging. Those were always the best kind. It gave Ian and his people time to set everything up. Ambushes were always nice. Having time to plot out the whole thing would guarantee Sebastian a victory. How could the opposition come out alive if they knew nothing of the attack until the knife was wedged securely in their back?
Next? Well, they waited. This little game of chess was playing out well, and they were winning. "Sit, relax," he commanded, "You have done well, and now there is nothing to do but wait." In the midst of all the scheming not once did Sebastian forget his loneliness. He had no one left in the whole world save for Connor. The wolf was his lone companion, and it had been an entire year since he could set eyes on the boy. Sure, he had those who remained loyal to him, friends and acquaintances, but he did not have those who cared. Connor cared. The heartbreak of losing his Master was almost too much to bear, and without his wolf to help him make it through, it would have been.
Lost in thought, Sebastian ignored that his eyes glazed over to show just how much he was not paying attention. Everything was going according to plan now, and Ian was going to make sure that there was nothing in the way. Was there anything he had missed? Was is possible that this was not going to go well? That there was even the slimmest chance that they could lose this battle? No, of course not. Sebastian had been far more cautious than his Master had been. Not that anything which had happened was his Master's fault. No, those circumstances were unforeseen. Bad luck. There was nothing anyone could have done to prevent it. And that was exactly what Ian was going to keep telling himself.
Shaking himself from the reverie, he let a sinister smile cross his lips. "Shall we go see that our guest is comfortable?" he suggested darkly. Motioning for the wolf to lead the way, Sebastian followed behind. "You really have done quite well, Connor," he told the boy, "You make me proud." It truly was indescribable the amount of glee Ian felt to be in the presence of someone so competent, especially someone so close to his own heart. Descending the stairs, Ian listened as the noise grew louder. He set eyes on the creator of the commotion and immediately grimaced in disgust. It sickened him that this girl, or anyone, could be a supporter of that foul demon wolf king.
Tired of all the squirming and noise, Sebastian kicked at the source of the annoyance: the wolf's face. When his foot connected he stepped back, making sure to get out of her reach should she be quick enough to retaliate. "Quit your whining," he spat venomously at her. Looking down at her, he continued, "You should be proud that we allowed you to play such a big part in such an important event. Now, no more noise or there will be nothing left for your precious Ulfric to rescue."

The moment her ears picked up steps, she dropped her head low, ears back, growling out her threat. He was not a wolf, he was not a human, he was something else, and he did not smell like a friend. Not like Connor had, and seeing him trail behind this new man only made her growl more at the two, ready to rip them to pieces if they came near her. Yet he didn’t try to get that close, instead, the coward only got close enough to kick her, head whipping to the side as a small whimper of pain escaped her. As soon as it passed, she tried to lash out, but was stopped by the damn chain around her neck.
It kept her at bay, but it didn’t silence her growling, what did was the mention of her Ulfric. Jason. If he wasn’t angry with her about what she had done with Dawn, he would hopefully come get her out of this mess. She didn’t know what this man was talking about, no idea what event she was taking part in, but she wished they had left her out of it. As she continued to think about Jason, her thoughts drifted to the rest of the pack, and while she was sure Dawn was probably not going to tear up if she was killed, surely Jason and Strum would at least attempt to free her.
So she sat down, falling silent, but the look in her eyes was clear that they were not welcome anywhere near her. That she was not worried at all about them or whatever their little plan for her was, because it would not work. If she didn’t find a way out herself, Jason would. If there was one thing she’d learned the last few weeks, even if he was mad at her, he was still her Ulfric, he would not leaver her here if he could help it. Whether or not anyone wanted to come help him out after last night was another story, but they didn’t seem to care about anyone else, their focus was on Jason.
Connor was nothing more than a pet, and she couldn’t believe she’d fallen for that stupid smile. How easy it had been for him to win her over, all because he smelled like pack. He was not pack, not the way she’d imagined a pack member would be anyway. They might do a lot of things after attacking one of her own, but she did not picture any of them chaining her up, that was just plain cruel to do to family. Her gaze drifted to him, and the look must’ve told him everything she was thinking, because he looked away to return his attention to the other man.

Nothing settled him more than reassurance from his master that he had done well. That everything was going to be fine, and there was nothing more they needed to do other than wait for the Ulfric to show up. Once he did, his guilt about tying up one of his own would fade into nothingness, hell for all he knew he wouldn’t even remember how he felt about it. She had been foolish enough to join that pack, and so had many others, but a few of them had been around long enough to know exactly what they had done. They had honestly thought Connor would roll over, kneel before that bitch of a vampire and her mutt of an Ulfric. Never, he’d bitten back lashing out at them both because his master had promised to return. Promised that he would have a plan to fix what the two of them and that damn necromancer had broken.
He’d kept his promise, and seeing him here, listening to him reassure that it would be all right, it got him back in the state of mind he needed to be in. Following behind him, he did his best to ignore how he might have felt about the kick to her face. She was suppose to behave herself, she’d been warned that if she behaved she would be fine. Growling at his master was not going to get her to walk out of here unharmed, and it certainly would not make it any easier for him to help her say alive after they were successful. When she looked at him, he knew what she was doing. Trying to make him feel guilty, make him regret his actions and change his mind. It wouldn’t work though, his bond with his master was far more important than what one mangy new wolf thought of him. She had no idea what they had gone through, what it had taken for them to survive, to get here. The humiliation Isobel had put his master through, the degradation Jason made him deal with. Him and his damn right hand man Strum, he wasn’t sure why, but part of him despised that dog more than the Ulfric.
Probably because of how much he always seemed to be on Jason’s good side. He’d stepped in when Jason was having issues juggling the pack and his personal life. Over what? A pathetic human woman who couldn’t choose between two men. That was what he’d risked his pack over, and even if he was only hearing things through others, he’d heard enough to know it wasn’t what a true Ulfric would’ve done. His Ulfric would have a mate by now, a werewolf to help him control his pack, a werewolf his pack could trust. Jason had no idea what he was doing, and Connor didn’t understand how he’d survived this long. No one seemed to oppose him after the old masters fell, but that was going to change. Connor wanted Ian to kill him, or grace him with the opportunity to do it himself.
Looking away from the girl who’d picked the wrong pack to join, he returned his attention to Ian. “Do you think the Ulfric will follow the order to come alone?” He wasn’t sure if the Ulfric was stupid or cocky, hell he was actually leaning towards both. Leaning against the wall, he glanced upstairs, never very good at waiting around, not when he’d been waiting years for this day, a few more hours were going to be the death of him. Ian was here now though, it should make the waiting easier. “Is there anything I can get for you while we wait? I can always put a muzzle on her to shut her up if you’d like.” Even though she’d fallen silent, for all he knew she’d simply start up again the moment they left the room.

Connor brought up a good point. Would the sorry excuse for an Ulfric show? “He will if he knows what’s good for his wolf,” Sebastian said. A part of him hoped Jason would not show, if only because it would give Ian a reason to prove how serious he was about everything. Anxiety swam in his chest, almost suffocating it. Even knowing how patient he had to be, he wanted nothing more than to spill blood in his Master’s name. It mattered little to him whether it was the blood of the wolf murderer or one of his followers. The only life he was absolutely certain he himself had to take was the life of that bitch who had stolen away his Master. Before he did, though, the child would know what she had done.
Looking to his Servant, Ian blinked away his angry thoughts. A satisfied twinkle behind his eye when the boy offered to put a muzzle on the mutt at their feet. “Oh, no,” Ian gleamed, “You have certainly done enough for me, pet.” And he had. Sebastian appreciated everything Connor had done. The wolf had certainly been more help than anyone else, especially considering he had risked more than Sebastian by staying in the sight of the enemy for a whole year. Ian felt like such a coward knowing he had left his Servant unprotected, but it had all been necessary. Certainly Connor knew that, didn’t he?
The discomfort of the wolf on the floor was pleasing to Ian’s eye. He loved watching her distraught and upset. None of what had transpired had been her fault, but that did not stop Sebastian from holding her responsible for it. She had picked the wrong side, after all. He could not start feeling pity for those who got in his way. A necessary casualty, that’s all she was. That was all anyone involved was. Having his revenge on the “Ulfric” would be nice, but Sebastian would not be completely satisfied until the vampiress was dead as well. That would be a day he could truly rejoice.
Looking away from the fleabag on the floor, Ian smiled approvingly at Connor. “None of this would have been possible without you,” Sebastian assured his Servant, hoping he understand the full weight of the words. That was true, too. He could never thank the boy enough for everything he had done. There would be time for that later. Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched and all that jazz. Sebastian was not sure his heart would survive another failure. If Jason walked away from this, then Ian would not know what to do with himself. How would he handle himself knowing he could not enact revenge for the death of his Master?

While they didn’t say it, they didn’t really need to. If Jason didn’t show, they were going to kill her. Though something about the way the man in front of her felt told her they wouldn’t kill her right away, and the probably wouldn’t make it anything fast. No, they wanted to make an example out of her, they were trying to start a war, and she was the lucky winner of being the first casualty. Well, not yet, but her guy knotted with uncertainty at whether or not her Ulfric would take their threat to heart, or simply act as if they didn’t have it in them to hurt her. Jason surely knew them better than she did, he would show.
That thought didn’t sit well with her either, two on one hardly seemed fair. Jessica realized that if they didn’t kill her, they planned on killing Jason when he got here. They would not make a show of him, he was too strong to waste any chance they had at taking him out. She had been easy, Jason would not go down so easily, this man was going to kill without hesitation. Her ears fell slightly, but in her head she had already made the decision, if it was between her and Jason, she couldn’t let Jason die. Far too many relied on him, and if he fell, some monster would try to take his place. If Jason died for her, she would never forgive herself.
Watching the two interact made her sick, she never wanted to be anyone’s pet. Connor was more dog than human, the way he practically glowed when his master praised him, even when he used that demeaning name of pet. Jess had no choice, she had to find a way to get out of this, or a way to tell Jason it was a trap, even if he expected one, she wasn’t sure he was ready to face the two of them on his own. Vampires were difficult for her to read, but if this one didn’t have some sort of power, she didn’t think he’d risk so much. No, they had been planning this for a while, he thought he was ready for Jason, and she couldn’t let her Ulfric die. Not over a dumb, weak newbie who had done nothing but been a complete pain in their asses.
She couldn’t take back what she had done to Dawn, but she could at the very least try to make sure no one else got her over her stupidity. The pack needed Jason...Strum needed Jason. The two were brothers, maybe not by blood, but in their hearts. This whole mess was because of her jealousy for him, she would never be able to look him in the eyes if Jason died trying to free her. He would be hurt by Jason’s death more than anyone she could think of, she didn’t want him to feel that kind of sadness.
Connor made a move towards his master and without hesitation, her anger boiled over and with a snarl she lashed out and sank her teeth into his arm. Jess would’ve been happier if she’d managed to get his master, but the man was just out of reach so she’d settle for hurting his stupid pet. He was stronger than her, so the bite did little more than irritate him, his own anger rolling off him in a wave as his free hand grabbed her snout and pried her off of him before giving a good, solid punch to her nose and kicked her back against the wall. It took the wind out of her, she growled and tried to stand, the taste of blood filling her mouth, but her legs shook and gave out from beneath her.

Connor hated waiting, Jason had to show up, if he didn’t show up then Connor had picked the wrong wolf. He knew what would happen if Jason didn’t show up, thankfully he didn’t know the girl well enough to feel too badly about her life being on the line. If she had to die well then that was just how things had to be. His master needed her for this to work, if the Ulfric was foolish enough not to listen, he would lose his new wolf. He would show, it would all work the way it was suppose to and he would still be useful, and good, and instead of being treated like an outcast he would remember what it was like to be loved and part of a pack again. Like it had been before, and Ian was going to make sure that it happened.
All the tension left him, his shoulders visibly relaxing when the vampire reassured him he had done well. It had been so long since he’d received praise for anything that he almost forgot what it felt like to do anything right. Ian was here though, he wasn’t going anywhere, life had some sort of meaning again outside of hiding in the shadows and simply watching as the new Ulfric destroyed everything his own had built. They had ripped away his life, taken his master from him, but they had been foolish and left them alive. They had knelt, but those who kneel can rise again, and rise they had. Even the bitch of a vampire had no idea what they had just done, and wouldn’t until it was far too late for her to do anything about it. Ian would destroy her, Ian would make this their home again and everyone, including the bitch tied up, would either submit to them, or be put down.
He praised him far more than Connor felt he deserved, he was just a pawn in his masters’ plan. Part of him wanted to hug the man, he was of course the only thing close to family or pack he had, and physical contact had been denied him since no one really trusted him. “I only did as you asked, I always shall.” He promised, stepping forward as if he actually might at least put his hand on his masters shoulder as reassurance that he would always be faithful, but the mutt went from being submissive and docile to stupid and vicious.
A growl escaped him as he cringed, the wolfs teeth sank into his arm, but he wasted no time in getting her off. His anger made him hit her a little harder than he had really intended, but a little blood never hurt her, and his master was not about to be upset if they damaged her too badly. He just couldn’t kill her yet, though the more acts like that she pulled, the easier it would be to take her life. Ignoring the injury to his arm, knowing it would heal soon enough on it’s own, he stalked over to the wolf as she tried to stand up again and failed. Grabbing her nose again, he slammed her head into the floor, pressing his knee to her neck to cut off her air for a moment and keep her pinned. “Try that again, and I will smash all those pretty little teeth of yours out. He may not feel the cold, but i doubt my master would be upset if presented with a new fur coat. You’d make a prettier pet, I suggest you behave.” She growled, but it barely worked and he could tell she barely had the energy to squirm, so he let her go and brushed himself off as he returned to Ian. “How long do we give the Ulfric?” He wasn’t sure how long to wait for Jason to show up, he wondered if the Ulfric would try to call back first or show up, the only question was how long did they wait before making him believe they were serious.

On the outside Sebastian beamed at his Servant, the one who had served him better than any possibly could have. Still, on the inside he still had his doubts. The past year had made Ian into quite the pessimist, and it was difficult to put aside thoughts of failure. Even now with the support his pet had shown him, a small part of Ian wondered if he could still trust Connor. Guilt for doubt was not an exchange he was willing to make. Instead he settled on trusting that instinct despite all the help the wolf had been. Sure, he still trusted Connor more than any other, but that did not change the fact that the wolf had been amongst the enemy for a whole year. Had any part of him begun to feel pity, or worse, compassion for those he had sought to kill? Those he had sworn to bring to justice? Sebastian hoped his worries were built on lies, but that did not change how wary he was in putting one hundred percent of his faith in the boy.
That was a large part of why he had insisted on being so active in everything. If something went wrong, horribly, irreversibly wrong, he wanted it to be his own fault. The only person he would feel all right blaming for any screw-ups was himself. Connor would be allowed leeway in the event of a slip up, but he would be under more scrutiny than Ian would bring upon himself. After all, Ian knew his own intentions were pure and intentional. Not a single ounce of him felt pity or sympathy for any of the wolves or vampires who might become a casualty during the war. None of them mattered anymore, because they were all loyal to one other than his Master. Was Connor still loyal to his Ulfric? Elijah had not been a wonderful leader. In fact, he had been a tyrant. However, he had also been a pawn to Jepsen. The new Ulfric had refused to support Jep, and that would ultimately be what would bring about his demise.
Even with his doubt, Ian could not thank Connor enough for everything he had done. Sebastian never would have been able to capture a wolf on his own. Not one that the bastard leader would care for, anyhow. He was a soft heart, though, so perhaps it would not have mattered. Of course, it was best to cut deep and close. Not too close, though. That was why they had gone with the mutt at their feet instead of one closer to the Ulfric. Did not want to alert more than the one. Even arrogant, confident Ian was not foolish enough to believe they could overpower more than one of the alpha wolves. The Ulfric would put up enough of a fight without adding any more into the mix.
The bitch wolf had obviously been enraged, because she sunk her teeth into Connor. Luckily the boy could handle himself against a newly turned dog. Connor’s threats pleased Ian, bringing a proud grin to his lips. He could not hide the chuckle that built in him, escaping him as he watched his Servant assert his physical authority over their prisoner. He had made an excellent choice in a pet, and that much he was grateful for. It gave him great pleasure to watch the female lie helpless under Connor’s might. If she knew what was good for her, she would not try something stupid like that again.
Once Connor had stepped aside, the vampire moved closer to the female, kneeling in front of her. Wrapping his hand firmly around her muzzle, Ian squeezed so as to both cause her pain and restrict her jaw moments. He leaned in, his face only a breath from her snout. “I do not need you alive for any of this,” he hissed. “It is in your best interest to be on your best behavior. I make no promises for Connor, but I guarantee I will not hesitate to kill you should you chose to act out again.” Quickly he was becoming more and more sure of her death. There was not a single good reason to keep her alive, at least not after the Ulfric arrived. Once Jason arrived and was dealt with, perhaps Sebastian would give Connor the privilege of finishing off the girl. He had earned a kill with everything he had done for his Master.
Rising quickly, he stepped back, once more out of her reach. Turning back to his pet, continuing their conversation, he answered, “He has until morning.” Should Jason not show up by then, there would be a price to pay. First, the girl would definitely become the first death. Second, they would have to move on to the next part of the plan. That would not be as safe for Ian and Connor as waiting around, because that would mean they would have to hunt the Ulfric down. As a daywalker, though, Sebastian would not have to worry about waiting until the other vampires had risen for the day. Instead they could attack while they slept and take to hiding before they woke. Chances were both him and Connor would need rest before they went after the Mistress. She would definitely be more of a challenge than the Ulfric.
Connor’s previous attempt to touch him had not been missed by Ian. Physical contact was not a thing he thrived on, but he knew his wolf did. Reaching his hand out to his wolf, he waited for it to be taken before speaking again. “Come, pet,” he commanded, “We should wait for the Ulfric upstairs. I want to see his face when he arrives.”

It was an awful thing, feeling helpless, feeling weak. Ever since her first turn, she’d felt stronger, better, and no one in the pack had ever made her feel vulnerable even when being dominant. These two though, they were going to kill her, even if Jason came alone and they killed him without much of a problem they might kill her just to prove a point. Hell they’d probably kill her because she would be too much to deal with once they started the war they were aiming towards. As Connors weight left her neck, she found she couldn’t move yet, her body hurt in several places. It would heal, she knew it would, but right now it hurt and there was no promise it would stop.
Jessica managed a very pitiful growl when the vampire grabbed her nose, eyes narrowing as he spoke but there was little she could do to argue. They needed her alive for awhile at least, long enough for Jason to know for sure that they had her, that there was anything worth saving in this house. She knew what he meant, behave or die, she could live long enough to watch Jason eat him, and that was going to be worth the wait. So she stayed quiet even when he finally released her and walked away.
It was sick how quickly the wolf moved to his masters hand to take it in his own. She could feel it though, how much he was struggling at this point to remain human. Soon enough he’d shift, and that she was glad he was going upstairs for. They were both crazy, being a wolf would only make him more violent if she continued to make them irritated. She also probably wouldn’t be getting any more lucky shots in either. Right now there was nothing she could do but wait, sulk, recover, and hope that Jason could manage this without getting himself hurt, or killed.
Waiting until they disappeared upstairs, their voices and footsteps trailing from the ceiling, she shifted to a more comfortable position. The floor was cold, and she hated that she was chained up, this was no way to spend her time in this form. Jess wanted to be outside, to run around, to hunt something. Earlier she’d simply been looking forward to running around with Strum. She had made a mess of things, played right into these bastards hands and now Jason was going to have to answer for it.

The more the girl fought, the angrier Connor became. It was bad enough resisting the desire and call to shift, Ian made it easier, but trying to be dominant over a weaker wolf was only making it that much harder. Finally she seemed to get it, or she simply didn’t have the energy left and simply gave up and stayed down. As his master reached for him, his smile returned as he took the offered hand and followed him upstairs. It was odd, being able to do as he pleased again. When someone made him mad, he could hurt them. Sherai was soft, even when he had the chance he chose the let them live, a mistake he would no doubt be regretting the moment he heard the voicemail.
Connor hated him, he hated his bleeding heart good guy attitude and couldn’t understand how he managed to overtake his old ulfric. He couldn’t understand how no one had ripped that over sensitive heart out of his chest and eaten it. Well he knew how, Sherai was a fool but he wasn’t weak, and neither were his dominants. Strum would’ve probably killed them himself if Jason had let him, but he’d stood by his dumb ulfrics choice of letting them live. That bitch hadn’t been around thankfully, even thinking about her made him slightly angry. She was cold, ruthless, sure she hid behind that sweet friendly mask to the pack, but he knew better. He had seen how she watched him, and her and Strum had been the hardest to tip-toe around.
The Russian woman wouldn’t be here to deal with though, Sherai would be alone against himself and Ian. Once he was gone, things would fall apart, all the dominants with short fuses would be blinded by their anger and walk right into any other traps thought up to start taking out the ones with power one by one. One step at a time, right now he needed to shift and be ready for when Jason arrived to save the pup they had tied up in the basement. It was going to be a long night, even longer for the poor wolf considering she couldn’t move much but that was her own fault. Joining this pack, falling in love with that obnoxious pain in the ass writer.
As they reached upstairs, he looked out the window, not really expecting Jason yet considering he probably wouldn’t even get the message for a while, but the moon was calling. “I’ll need to shift, I’ll be ready when the ulfric arrives.” He reassured, not wanting Ian to think that shifting would leave him to terribly weakened. Connor could shift back before Jason arrived, they would be ready for him, they had the upper hand, the element of surprise. This was going to work, it had to, there were no second chances after what he had done.
