What could one do, in the face of such a thing. Being vilified for the very fundamentals one was raised upon. To be made the monster for only wishing to spare a life. to keep further bloodshed at bay. It seemed that for all it was worth to him it meant nothing to them. It was the truth, that because he chose to spare his enemies from death that they returned, It was true that because of him Hundreds had lost their lives. But he had save so many more, and he believed that he was right in his actions. He questioned often the first but never the second. He should have ended Connors life for his betrayal. Or at the very least allowed Nate to do it. But He had been begged to spare him and desiring a peaceful end Jason did so. But they payed the price for that. They were right. But that didn't mean Jason was entirely wrong either.
Either way none of that matter now. He was no longer Ulfric. At least Lain had allowed him to step down. But now Jason would have to leave. Right now he trusted no one, because everyone had been against him. Even if they never said it Jason knew better. He knew that Strum agreed, knew that Nate agreed. And while they would have done something if he had ordered it deep down he knew that they did not agree. They wanted him gone. So he was leaving. Later he and Lain would sort out where he would stay in the pack. But tonight, Tonight Jason would hunt alone. He had no brothers or friends, No clansmen to speak of. Tonight this family was not his. So he did the only thing he could. He left. He shifted as he passed through the crowd. Until his Bestial form stalked to the edge of the lupanar. With one Look back to see them all. The mix of approval for their new ulfric and the strange looks they all gave him where enough. Tonight he was exile. To night he was alone. So he ran.
Turning from the pack he once called his own he ran. Bolted across the dessert in a blur of motion. He couldn't stay. He didn't belong. He had no where left to go The full moon would call to the others soon and they would hunt. He would not be with them tonight. He ran far beyond their hunting grounds to the lands where the stone pillars dotted the sand. His things all left behind. Even His truck. He was not going to go home either. No, He had nowhere to go. No one to turn to. He could hear them in the distance the pack hunted now. He was out of their lands but he wanted to be farther still. The hurt to much to bear. Climbing to the top of one of the stone monuments Jason released a great howl. One he knew the pack would hear. He was close enough to hear their barks and whines. He would give them his goodbye tonight with a solemn howl that pierced the night sky into the full moon. He then bounded off into the sands once more to try and hunt. For just a while he didn't want to think about all that he felt. He just wanted to be the beast for a while. so that he could forget the heartache he felt.
------------
Near noon Jason returned to the lupanar, Everyone else was gone. All the cars had driven home. All save his own. There was no one left. which was good because Jason didn't want them to see him as he was now. He shifted, back to his human form where he walked to his truck and grabbed his pants. sliding them on he walked back away from his truck. He didn't want to leave. The pack wasn't here anymore but this was still the lupanar, their home, his home. He hoped that at the least Lain would allow him to stay. but he wasn't sure what the man would do. It was his choice now anyway. If there was one thing Jason already hated about this was that he was now at another's mercy. One of the reasons Jason had become ulfric in the first place was so that he wouldn't have to take orders he didn't agree with, because he was the one giving the orders. But now he would either have to learn to listen again, or leave. and he didn't want to leave. He had spent 4 years building this clan. Spent even longer trying to free it from the war. He hoped that meant something. He really did.
Still that didn't matter. None of it did. Jason wasn't sure what he was going to do now. He didn't want to see or be near anyone. Didn't want to seek comfort he didn't deserve. Sighing to himself he looked down to the lupanar once more. Beneath its surface, just beneath the ground he felt the munin of their clan. The hundreds that had joined them after sickness were there now as well. Jason Could feel them, as he always could. He felt no hostility from the spirits below. knowing it was only thier memories but still they did not react to him. Sometimes Elijah would in anger toward him. But today they just hummed in their steady flowing energy. At the very least Jason found comfort in that. The munin didn't reject him. Still he wondered, did the ones who fell because of him blame him.
Did they hate him in death. Did everyone hate him. Was he at such folly that no one would forgive his mistakes. He didn't know. All he knew was that he felt alone and had no desire to change that. This would be his punishment. His exile. For the mistakes He had made. Maybe if someone came looking they would find him here. But until he figured out what he was going to do this was where he would remain. finding the familiar cave that lead beneath he lupanar. A place of safety for everyone in the clan, He made his way deeper. Till he reached its end beneath the center of the clearing. That was where he slept. He knew he would have to call his job, let them know that he wouldn't be coming in for a while. But no one else would need to know. Not even Trinity or Marcus. No one would know what he intended because he would tell no one. He desired to be alone. So that maybe he could sort out what he had done wrong. To fully understand it. So that maybe he could be better. Just maybe. Laying in the dirt Jason sighed as the hum of the munin filled his ears. He wondered if anyone else experienced them the way he did. It didn't matter though. Fading from consciousness he began the first of many days and nights he would be here. Alone
