It was absolutely impossible to get comfortable. The entire flight home was like hell, it was barely a few hours and she had only left home last night yet her body ached. Fucking dynamite. Fucking prius windshield. Ugh all she wanted was to curl up in her bed, to be home, to feel the pack close by and let her back heal. Falling four stories into the windshield shouldve broken her back in multiple places. The healing was slow, it had left her back covered in bruises and gashes, all of which were now better but it just looked and felt like pure hell. Sighing, she tried to relax, once she got home there would be little time before pack matters arose. Last she knew Jason was still keeping to himself and there was still the new Ulfric to get to know. Not that she felt she had much to worry about, so far hed been nothing short of what she could hope an ulfric would be for the pack. Not that shed had much punishing to do, but she felt that should any new threats arise, hed truly listen and allow her to handle it the way she was suppose to. It was on these thoughts that the plane finally used to help lull her to a half sleep. Not enough to fix much, but her eyes slipped shut and her mind allowed her to daydream almost.
She was wolf, it had been ages since she had dreamed let alone about being in her other skin. Yet that's how it was, just running, running and running, it was a few moments before she realized she wasn't just running, she was chasing. Her wolf was hunting down something ahead of her, a flash a grey was all she saw every now and again. It was frustrating, no one was faster than her, not that shed ever noticed at least. Yet she couldn't figure out what or why she wanted to catch it so badly. The wolf stumbled to a halt as it realized it could no longer find what it was looking for. There was a fog around her senses, it was what made her realize it was a dream, nothin was clear, for a moment she was lost. Then, she was fleeing, her adrenaline masking what was making her flee, but she kept glancing behind her, still just flashes of grey darting just in and out of her vision. Who the hell would dare think they could just get away with it.
It lunged and just as it was about to collide with her she woke with a start as the plane touched down on the runway. Her wolf had been reaching out in her sleep, she wasn't use to that, wasn't use to craving home so badly. What an odd feeling, wanting to be in one place in order to feel comfort. Sighing she pulled her phone out, sending Laine and Strum their usual heads up that she was back home if they needed help with the pack. Hopefully whatever had happened today, if anything, could wait until tomorrow. Nate probably would find sleep very easy tonight, but she could use the time to relax. Yet as her keys opened the front door, the empty house bothered her. Her back ached, she cringed and made her way to the bathroom. A bath would help, hot, with bubbles or salts anything to soother her aches and fill her senses with smells that brought her comfort.
Todays scent was cherry, and as she slipped into the tub and let the water wash over her, her eyes slipped shut and the heat washed over her. Her mind slipped off, once again flooded by her wolf, running again, determined to figure out what it was her wolf was craving. Opening her eyes she splashed her face with water before drying her hands and grabbing her phone off the floor nearby. Opening it she stared at the screen, contemplating what she wanted to do, why she was so restless despite also wanting to just relax. Stupid dynamite, stupid back. Sighing, she decided speaking with Laine more would probably be productive. So she let him know that if he wanted to catch up shed be home all night. Normally there was pack updates, shed only been gone a day, but it couldn't hurt to offer. Part of her hoped hed even want to talk about minor things that could wait, being around just one other wolf for a little bit might help her feel better. Lana was with Strum and Jess since she had been away at work, so that left her with few options of company.

Papers fell to the floor as Laine ruffled through the stack on his desk. Sighing, he leaned over and picked them up, replacing them to the bottom of the pile. He should have organized them after letting them fall to the floor, keep everything alphabetical as it had been, but he just did not want to. There would be time to organize everything later when he cared more. He just did not have the patience for the bad grammar and horrible handwriting tonight. Had he been that stupid as a teenager? God, he hoped not. That was his job, though. To educate the younger generations and hope some of it stuck.
It was just difficult to focus on his job when he had so many other things to worry about. Sometimes he considered not juggling the two lives, just focusing on his wolf matters. But he had to. He had to have a job to keep his life in order. Plus, he loved what he did. He loved teaching. It was why he kept doing it even though he could have found a living doing more pack related things. Thankfully, he had not been forced to expose himself as of yet, either. Chances were it would happen eventually, especially being Ulfric now, but not yet.
Just as his brain was beginning to shut off and tell him no more work for the moment, he received a message from his Bolverk. She was back in town, and she was up for discussing pack matters. Not that a lot had happened in the previous few days. Still, he wanted right then to be with his wolves, or at least one of them. “I’m not doing anything important right now. I’ll be over in a few.” He sent the message, packing up his things and organizing his desk as best he could for when he returned. Eventually he was going to have to grade those papers.
He had seen her a few times since his first night as Ulfric. Nothing of dire importance had cropped up since, nothing that she had been required for. But that was the best time to discuss what she would do in the event that something did happen. Arriving in front of her home, he knocked on the door and waited. More than anything, he wanted company. Wolf company. Especially one he knew agreed with the decisions he had been making.

It was rare Nate was happy that someone was, as most people said, bored. Not doing anything important usually meant something small, tedious, and one of the last things they wanted to do. It meant she was going to get the company she wanted though, which meant fixing herself up enough to at least look like she hadn’t had the shit kicked out of her despite how short her leave had been. Tea would probably help her back feel better, so she timed how long she could just soak in the hot water before needing to get out. The pajama shorts were an easy decision, but it took some digging before she decided on a muscle shirt that didn’t reveal any bruising on her back as long as she didn’t move too much. Moving very little was the plan though, so she figured she’d be fine.
Once in the kitchen, she busied herself with whatever random fruit blend she’d grabbed from the cupboard and made a pot of tea, she could drink it herself before the evening was out, but she also didn’t want to be rude and not offer him any. Natalya honestly had felt him before she’d heard him, and she could’ve put her cup down and answered the door but she was just feeling far too lazy. “It’s open!” She called out to him, figuring a this point the Ulfric could open the door himself, it wasn’t like he hadn’t already been here before.
What she had forgotten about, were the traps that she and Lana had started setting up around the home. Nate knew how to avoid them, they were like second nature to her now, Lana was becoming easy for her to predict. Laine on the other hand, was not aware of any of them, and sadly as she turned to greet him as he opened the door, he tripped one of Lanas wires and instead of her smiling face, he was greeted with a whip cream pie flung into his face from it’s place above the door frame.
It took everything in her not to laugh, which lasted for about a whole second before she was wracked with giggles. Covering her mouth and trying to compose herself as the tin fell away, leaving the Ulfrics face a mess of cream, she offered the most apologetic look she could. Which wasn’t very good considering she was still giggling, “I uh....probably should have warned you....about....yeah.....” She had to pause to laugh, and felt awful that she wasn’t actually trying to help him any at all, but it was rare that Nate found things truly funny, this moment was too good not to laugh at. She even had to set her tea down out of fear it might slip from her hands. “Would you like a towel?” There, a nice enough offer, eventually she would stop laughing about it....she hoped.

Considering his current circumstances with the pack and pack matters, Laine did his best to spend as much time with those who supported him as possible. He knew if he slipped up, if there was even a hint that he wasn’t doing his job, those who did not support him could rise up and overthrow him. Strum had been more help than he could have ever asked for. And Nate. Nate had done so well in the short amount of time since he had come to power. She was beyond helpful. He appreciated more than he could ever put into words that she kept in contact with him. That she treated him as if he had always been her Ulfric.
Hearing her call out to him, Laine let himself in. “Hello?” he called, trying to gauge where in the home she was. As he entered the house, he felt a tug on his shin, causing him to look down. There was a wire there. What was that for? Something fell on his head, answering his question. Running his hand through his hair, he got a good look at the fluffy, white substance. Whipped cream. Fantastic. It covered his hair, his shoulder, and he could feel it beginning to drip onto his forehead. Sighing, he shook his head and wiped his hand on his pants.
The laughter made him even more suspicious than he had been when he had first received a pie to the face. Frowning, he asked, “Did you plan this?” Had she really invited him over just to put a pie in his face? “There is no way you lacked entertainment so badly that I had to be victimized,” he stated. Removing his shirt, he used it to wipe what he could of the cream off his face. Thankfully he kept a decent amount of changes of clothing waiting in his car for the rare instance when he would need them. A wolf could never be too prepared.
But a change of clothes didn’t stop him from being sticky. With a grumble he moved to the sink, washing off the sticky from his hands and splashing his face. Chances were he would never get it all off without a shower. One more grumble and he shut off the water and turned around to face Natalya. Then Laine ate Nate instead of the pie and everyone lived happily ever after. “I’m such a nice guy that I like to believe this wasn’t the only reason you invited me over,” he said, “Please don’t prove me wrong.”

Nate’s eyes widened in sincere shock when he asked if she had planned the incident. Yet, unhelpful as always, it only made her laugh more. He truly felt that she had been so bored that all she wanted to do was play a joke on him. Which was funny, but she really had just wanted to enjoy his company, it helped her stop laughing realizing she now had to convince him she had not intended for it to happen. It slowed and finally ceased by the time he was at the sink, and the grumble only earned him an eye roll from her.
“Oh hush, if you grumble again I will find the can and it won’t be an accident.” The threat of course was done with a teasing tone, but she wasn’t going to let him be grumpy over her game with Lana though. “It’s a game Lana and I play, she’s losing, but she’s getting better.” She couldn’t help but say it with some pride as she walked over with a dish towel in hand as he turned to face her.
All she could manage at first was to shake her head at him as if he were being foolish. “I genuinely asked you over for company, you getting caught in a trap and already taking clothes off was just a bonus.” Before her teasing smirk could fade into confusion, she dropped the towel on the top of his head, covering his vision as she used it to dry his hair, though really it was more like messing it up with a towel. The fuck had she just said? Her wolf seemed to be just happily wagging her tail that she had actually confessed to asking him over for company, not to talk about the pack.

All the laughter only made Laine narrow his eyes at Natalya in suspicion. There were so many more important things he could have been doing instead of staying there and being made a spectacle of. But most of them were boring, like grading papers or doing actual work. So he supposed he could stick around and let her tease him just a little bit more. Certainly she meant no harm by it, and maybe he could even have a little fun while she did it. Maybe. Laine having fun was a bit of a stretch. If he had too much the Earth might have fallen out of orbit or something.
Natalya threatened him with the can of whipped cream if he didn’t stop grumbling, and this time it was his turn to laugh. “Oh good,” he chuckled, “because I think I might have missed a spot when I did it myself.” With the quick once over cleaning up he had done, Laine knew he still had the fluffy, white confection in his hair and on his face. Even when it was all gone, he knew the only thing that would truly get rid of it all was a hot shower. And that was going to have to wait until he got home. At least he could look clean for now, even if he didn’t feel it.
“A game?” he questioned as she approached him with the dish towel. Laine could only imagine what a mess was made on a daily basis if this was a game Natalya and the one she sponsored truly played. With a light chuckle, he voiced his thoughts. “Why do I get the feeling the two of you do a lot of cleaning?” While it was not typically part of the sponsor’s job to teach the wolf household responsibilities, perhaps Lana needed the encouragement. It was a shame how little Laine knew of the wolf considering she was one of his. He would have to make a point to get to know her better, too.
A cough escaped Laine when he choked on a laugh. He watched the towel drop over his eyes, and he could not fight the second laugh that came to him. “Ah,” he chuckled, removing the towel and handing it back to her, “So you just want me for my body, huh?” Laine was not typically one for pranks and tricky games, but he could manage a few snarky remarks if the situation called for it.

His questions made it a bit easier to pretend she hadn’t actually been flirting. Why it worried her if she was flirting or not was beyond her, being around him was nice, but it made her stomach feel weird. She also felt like she just sounded dumb around him which should have been her first clue that she really liked him, but Nate’s stubborn as shit so she just decided she’d been lonely while away at work and had hated coming home to an empty one. Lana lived with her now, but the girl spent a fair amount of her time ‘bothering’ Strum. However her room decorated in Cy’s drawings suggested that the girl was also enjoying seeing more than just the pack member who had taken her in.
Nate returned her attention to his question and couldn’t help but shrug and give a small laugh, “We actually do less cleaning than you think. She’s...she’s getting very good.” The pride was not hidden at all in her tone, though she couldn’t really tell him why she was teaching Lana to be crafty in booby traps, it still was nice knowing that Lana was getting better. The pup enjoying it just made it seem like she had gotten lucky, most would probably love the idea of having a child to raise and teach, Lana was old enough to take care of herself, and young enough to still give some guidance. “I’m trying to keep her busy, and entertained. She’s starting to seem like she feels almost at home now, I’d like to make sure she doesn’t feel bored and run off.”
Then he made the body comment and she lost it to a fit of giggles again. Mostly because she couldn’t exactly say no, but that was just so shallowly simple it wasn’t even fair. So instead she grabbed the cups of tea and offered him his, “Of course not teach, it’s that sexy brain of yours I want so bad.” Ending it with a wink, she burst into giggles again as he took his cup and finally made her way into the living room to sit on the couch. “So how was everything while I was away? Nothing new I hope.” She hadn’t been gone long, but her excuse for inviting him over had been to discuss the pack, she had to at least ask.

A mental note was made that Laine needed to make some sort of arrangement to meet with Lana. He needed to check with her on her progress as a wolf and her comfort within the pack itself. Since his main concern when he took the pack in the beginning was to sort out the mess Jason had made of making enemies, he had not taken immediately to getting to know his wolves. Yeah, he had gotten to be on fairly friendly terms with all his alphas, Natalya included, but that didn’t mean he was excelling at making peace with everyone.
If it wasn’t for Natalya, Laine would not have any way to gauge how Lana was doing at all. He did like knowing she was doing well for the most part. It even lightened his heart to be informed that the girl was taking well to the little pranks the alpha was prone to. “Should I be worried since you’re the one training her?” he joked, “Do I need to get a new lock for my home?” In all seriousness, though, he would have gladly welcomed Lana’s company should she choose to seek him out. As long as the pranks and mischief remained at Natalya’s place. And Strum’s from what he had heard.
Taking the cup of tea she offered him, he laughed at her retort to his comment. “Ha, teach,” he vocalized his amusement. With a feigned look of sternness, he waggled his finger at her. “That would be Mr. Allen to you,” he corrected before allowing another laugh. She was doing a poor job of behaving well if flirting was not her true intention. Not that he minded in the least. Bunching up his now soiled shirt, he threw it over his shoulder and followed her out of the kitchen. “And you admit you want me,” he continued plopping down beside her on the couch.
Then to business it was; the real reason he had been invited over in the first place. Taking a sip from the cup in his hands, he leaned back and rested his free arm on the back of the couch. “No, nothing new, I suppose,” he said with a shake of his head. Alliances would be their next step in the healing process, and Laine was all ready preparing to contact the clan in Reno, but he was sure they would not be too happy to hear from him considering how close the former Ulfric had been with the Reno vampires.

Worried? About Lana? Well, in terms of her safety no, but she knew what he meant the moment he asked about needing a new lock. “A new lock is always a good idea in general, but she didn’t need me to teach her about locks.” No, the girl had been very good at those since she’d arrived. Picking locks was something the girl had taught herself, even Nate had very little criticism about her skills there. However the last thing she wanted was their Ulfric coming after her for teaching the girl bad habits, when half of those habits she had already known when she stumbled into Strums home the first time.
Natalya needed to get her to start visiting other pack members, as much as she knew Strum, Jess and of course Cyprus enjoyed her company, the girl was ready to expand more and get to know the rest of her new adoptive family. Lana was still nervous about getting close to many of them, but with some time she knew it would get easier as long as she saw how much they all cared for her. Then he was informing her that it was ‘Mr.Allen’ and all she could do was laugh, “My apologies Mr. Allen, I won’t make that mistake again.” She teased, though his demand only earned a smirk. Nate hadn’t denied wanting him, they were simply debating over what it was about him she wanted. “I never denied that now did I?”
Propping her feet up on the coffee table before them, she was glad to hear that nothing had happened while she was away. Jason had been a big worry, not just for her but the rest of the pack as well. No one wanted to see him broken, but he had a good habit of getting and then staying that way for extended periods of time. She should probably at least let him know she was home, but she wasn’t sure they were even on speaking terms yet. Between feeling like she’d turned her back on him and all of the problems with Trinity, it was just better that they weren’t talking right now. Eventually they would have to, but while he was pouting, he was on his own.
“No news is good news. Has there been any word from Reno?” It was hardly a secret that Jason had been close to the vampires there, maybe not Sowen, but if Kyne liked you, Sowen usually did too. She did not picture either of them being upset or doing anything rash about Jason losing his spot, he was still alive after all. The wolves though, she had no idea about any of them, Kyne and Lily kept her so distracted she’d never really thought to look into any packs that might be around. She’d kept them in the loop about what had happened, and naturally Kyne’s main concern had seemed to be whether or not his Lobo was going to stop pouting anytime soon and come visit him since he now had plenty of free time to do so. “Speaking of Mr.Allen though, how has the school work been?”

Laine looked away from Natalya when she asked about Reno. He wasn’t sure if she meant the vampires or the wolves, but either way he was putting it off as long as he could. Shaking his head, he leaned forward and placed his cup on the table, making sure to knock her feet off playfully before reclining back to where he had been before. “I’m working up to that,” he said, “Not sure they’re going to want to hear from me now that Jason isn’t Ulfric.” He also wasn’t sure how he felt about the clan to begin with, or how much trouble he wanted to be for them. They had just lost their Ulfric. All though it might not hurt anyone for him to reach out and offer help to the new man in charge, Laine was busy finding his own footing first.
Then the subject changed from pack matters to Laine’s personal life. Well, sort of. His professional life was about as personal as it got with him. He hadn’t had time for anything social in a very long time. In fact, his time with Natalya was about as close to a social call as he had seen in ages. Building his reputation among the pack had taken up all his time, and now that time was being consumed by maintaining his position and fixing everything he knew needed to be fixed.
Smiling at her, he dropped his arm from around the back of the couch to her shoulder. At least she made him feel welcome, even when he suspected she only wished to talk business a good deal of the time. Not that he could blame her; it wasn’t as if they had any more in common than the pack. “Exhausting,” he admitted, “I’ll be glad when the state testing is over. Things will slow down and be a lot less stressful for everyone.” All though school was his connection to the real world, he did stress quite a bit more than he would have liked now that he was balancing both it and being Ulfric. Once state testing was over he could slow down on the work load a bit – give both the students and himself a small break before starting up again just in time for midterms.
“What about you?” he asked, turning his body to face her and give her more of his attention. “How’s your-” The pause was followed by a look of confusion and furrowed brow as he thought for a moment. Laughing it off, he shook his head and explained where his thoughts had gone. “Well, I don’t even know what you do.” Much about Natalya had been shrouded in mystery. It was one of the many things which made her good at being Bolverk. No one knew what she did, but whatever it was it had trained her to be good at instilling fear in her enemies. That was enough of a reason for Laine to keep his nose out of her business. As long as she kept doing good at what she needed to do, he would keep looking the other way when the topic of her professional life came up.

As the ulfric looked away, Nate couldn’t help but smirk as she figured that meant he hadn’t been in touch with them, and wasn’t really in any rush to do so. It was funny, she knew what the word was about Jason's relationship with the vampires, she just realized no one knew that Kyne was well aware of just how foolish Jason could be. While she couldn’t speak for Sowen, she knew Kyne influenced him greatly so if Kyne liked Laine, Sowen would probably play nice. If Kyne decided to make things difficult? Well then the werewolf could eat the little vampire and that would be fun.
The smirk grew to a smile and raised brow as he knocked her feet off the table, honestly he’d just walked into a cream pie not even meant for him. Did he have any idea who he was toying with? Once he sat back, she brought her legs up to rest them across his lap. As his arm fell around her shoulder she found the smirk falter for a moment in confusion. Why was she being thrown off so much? It wasn’t like no one flirted with her, hell it was pretty much almost all she seemed to do with the people close to her. Maybe it was just the whole pack thing, or just that she didn’t seem to date very many werewolfs. They were usually territorial, and there was nothing wrong with monogamy but no one had made her feel it was something she should attempt with them. Her job made it difficult for her to allow people to become too reliant on her, friends was one thing, having only one single lover that makes your life feel complete though? Well that just made it easy for anyone who wanted to hurt you, to do so easily.
As he pointed out that he had no idea what Natalya did for a living, she found herself feeling slightly guilty that he had to trust her yet she wouldn’t even tell him something so very important about her. Part of her wondered if he would even believe her if she told him what she did. It just sounded cheesy out loud, like she was making up some dramatic life to cover for something. Maybe one day she’d test the theory, tell someone and see if they laughed at first then just play it off as a joke. “Traveling was fun….mildly uncomfortable the entire way back but the rest of it was as I had hoped it would be.” Nate smiled reassuringly, even wanting to point out that as long as she came back it was fine, that was even a bit much. She didn’t want him thinking dangerous people followed her around, not when it was the other way around.
Then Nate remembered she was also technically a sponsor now, that was kind of a job, “My sponsoring, as you can see, is going very well. Lana actually remembers to use the front door, and her key.” A whole week had gone by and she girl had not come in through any window or picked any locks out of habit. Though on days where Natalya had any traps by the door, if the girl snuck in another way, she never chastised her. It was good to know when your instincts were telling you something that might be a normal everyday routine may not be very safe at the moment. Living with the pack the girl would be safe of course, but Natalya was more concerned about what would happen if the girl decided to run off and be on her own again. Packs were big about being together of course, Jess was taking care of that part, she just wanted to cover all bases in case she decided being alone was best for her. Didn’t need poor little Lana going on a killing spree when people made her mad or tried to hurt her. “I’d even put money down that by the end of the month she might actually hug someone who isn’t Jessica.” Doubtful really, but the girl certainly seemed to be warming up a bit more to everyone.
Relaxing against him as he turned to face her better she took a sip of her tea and remembered his shirt was just hanging off his shoulder. Grimacing like he was making a terrible mess she pulled it away and set it carefully on the table. "I'd rather not spread your whip cream mess onto my couch. I'd offer you another one to wear for now but in this house you're probably better off waiting until you leave."

His eyes traveled to the feet in his lap, a huff of amusement leaving his lips. He looked back up at the woman and shook his head. “What do you think you’re doing?” he asked playfully. Then he laid the arm that wasn’t behind her on her legs, giving her leg a gentle squeeze.
“Traveling?” That was the most he’d gotten out of her so far. They hadn’t known each other for very long, and he didn’t expect her to go pouring her heart out. Though it was still nice that she had somewhat close to opening up on something as trivial as what she did for a living. The way she avoided talking about it, Laine wondered how bad it could really be. Was she the lady-werewolf James Bond or something? He couldn't fight back the amused look on his face at the absurd thought.
“Yeah?” he quirked an eyebrow at her when she talked about her sponsoring. “You should send her my way soon. I wouldn’t mind getting to know her as long as she’s a member of the pack” He knew almost nothing about Lana, although - he supposed - most of the pack didn’t, either. She’d shown up at Strum’s in the middle of the night on a full moon; he knew that. He also knew she had been on her own before then, and that Natalya had agreed to sponsor her while the new wolf learned how to be a functioning member of not just the pack but of society.
Natalya pulled his shirt off his shoulder, and he laughed at the face she made. His eyes follwed the shirt as she laid it on the table. “I’ve got another in my car,” he confessed, giving his attention back to her. “I’ll get it later. As long as you don’t mind.” He certainly didn’t. Naturally, as a werewolf he wasn’t comfortable in clothes anyway. She and Lana had given him a reason to remove his shirt; he should have been thanking Natalya.

“Whatever the hell I want.” Her snippy reply was so automatic she really didn’t have time to remember that when talking to pack members, almost anything with her sassy attitude could be taken as a challenge. Not that she minded, even with a few injuries she felt she could hold her own against him. The squeeze was only on her leg, but the feel of it shot straight up her spine into her head, maybe she should have been asking him what he was doing. While he hadn’t pried into her traveling statement, she chose to ignore the question in his tone, knowing there weren't’ any words she could use right now to explain it vaguely enough to really be an answer he’d accept. So she chose to pretend she hadn’t heard the questioning tone and focused on the discussion of Lana.
While she knew what he wanted was true, he would need time with each pack member to know who he was dealing with, she didn’t see Lana jumping on the idea of a visit. “In time, she’s warming up to having a home but...she’s still not really use to this whole family idea thing. Meeting new people puts her a bit on edge, she’s getting better but I don’t think being around people is her thing. Curiosity gets the best of her however, so I’d say within the next week or two you’ll get a few words out of her.” Nate didn’t mind that Lana didn’t like to chat about her feelings, yet she knew it was something she was suppose to be watching out for. Lana needed to know how to keep herself alive in this world but she also needed to know how to let people in. It came so naturally to Nate that sometimes she struggled explaining to the girl while having at least a few trustworthy faces would benefit her.
Shrugging at the idea of him grabbing a shirt later she just shook her head, “Don’t mind at all.” Nope, not even a little, she was hardly one to complain when someone was topless on her couch snuggled in close. A smirk crossed her lips as she couldn’t help but see just how many buttons she could push. “Besides, you’re such a klutz you might just ruin that one too. You’d think a big bad Ulfric could avoid one little cream pie trap.” Not about to admit that Lana had managed to get her twice with clever hiding places for the traps, she was just enjoying teasing the Ulfric while she could enjoy his company. Maybe she’d been spending a bit too much time with Kyne.

Laine said nothing when she snapped at him. Instead he only raised a brow as if challenging whether or not she had actually said what she did. Silly girl must have hit her head while she was out traveling. First she gets him with a pie, and now she was intentionally pushing his buttons with her attitude. The audacity of it was surprising even if he had expected something along the lines of it from Natalya.
Whatever had gotten into her, he liked it.
He didn’t have high hopes about Lana coming to see him any time soon, even with prompting. She would do it in her own time, and Laine would only upset her if he insisted on anything else. Of everyone in the pack, Natalya knew the girl best - and even then that wasn’t saying much at all. He would just have to wait and see what happened with her.
Then she was right back to teasing him. Fine, if she wanted to play he would play. He just hoped she remembered who started it when it was over.
“I think you’re right,” he laughed. The man shoved her legs off his laps and got up on his knees. A smirk to mirror hers stretched across his lips. “It might be a good idea if I just--” he fell forward, pressing and hand down firm on her shoulder and pinning her. “--laid here. You know, so I don’t ruin anything else.”
The beast inside him stirred. He reared his head from the contact, feeding deeply on the playful feeling which surged through the man. All the boredom he had felt had been long forgotten, buried under the excitement of the moment. As Ulfric he didn’t have much time for playing around, but he would seize any opportunity which came his way. If she tested him, Natalya might find out how big and bad her Ulfric could be.
And to think he had started out the day planning to grade papers.

The smirk signed away his rights to complain about anything she did to him. While Natalya knew she’d been pushing her luck, she hadn’t really known what to expect in terms of a response from him. It was odd wanting to be so playful, not that she wasn’t flirtatious with just about everyone she knew Laine was still technically her Ulfric and she hadn’t had the chance to test out his strength herself yet. Not that she had any desire to really fight him so much as just push him around a little and see how hard he could push back.
When he shoved her feet away she threw him a look of annoyance before a laugh manage to escape as he decided pinning her beneath him on the couch was going to teach her some sort of lesson. A free hand extended to the coffee table and she carefully pushed it away from the couch, grinning up at him the whole time to keep him distracted. “Oh, see now it’s cute how you really think you’ll be staying there.”
Grabbing on arm she used her weight to roll them off the couch and pinned him beneath her on the floor. Resting her elbows on his chest she grinned and ruffled his hair. “There, the floor is probably dirty at least down here you’re not even touching anything else.” Her back was still a bit achy but by now they had to be minor bruises and cuts, they’d probably heal up by the time he went home if she kept her wolf so close to his. Which was already pacing around because this was honestly playing light for her. There was still just something itching at the back of her mind, warning her not to get too pushy with him.
