Late nights were almost a necessity for Strum at this point. Even loud and easily excitable Jess had long been in bed before Strum even began to feel the effects of sleep deprivation. And it was always well after that point that he decided to stop. A typical night for him did not end until just before the sun rose. There were always just so many ideas he had that he had to get out. If he didn’t, he was sure he would lose his mind. Before Jessica he could just spend the morning sleeping. Not now, though. Now he just suffered it out. Spending time with her was always worth missing a bit of sleep.
Tonight, though, he was well past his usual point of exhaustion. The strange thing was, there was no sleepiness. Instead, he felt a surge of energy that made it absolutely impossible to focus. Strum could not count how many words he had written out that night, but he was sure it was less than fifty. Nonproductive. He hated it when he could not work, but tonight he would live. Tonight he would not stress. His wolf was doing its best to make sure he could not forget about it. That it wanted to play, and that it would play.
The feeling was not uncommon. In fact, it was present now more than ever thanks to Jessica. Before her he could shove it down and get some work done. Of course, Jason had stressed to him well before Jessica the importance of not doing that. Strum was learning to be more comfortable with himself, and no one had helped better than Jess. Having another wolf so close by was having a definite effect on his own. And for once, he really did not mind. Strum enjoyed all the extra time to enjoy himself, his wolf, and her. Not that he would be telling her that any time soon. He would just continue to let her believe he found her to be the most annoying person on the planet. The most annoying, loud, rambunctious, adorable, cuddly, lovable person he had ever met.
Just when the nagging of his wolf’s energy was becoming too much, he rose from his chair and made his way into the bedroom. Leaping into the bed, he pulled his shirt off. He nudged at the sleeping girl. It was her turn to lose sleep because of him. Pulling the covers off of her, he moved in to nip at her ears. “My turn,” he chuckled. Strum could all ready feel the wolf right beneath his skin, wanting nothing more than to burst from it. It had been so long that he had been exciting about shifting, and he hoped for nothing more than for Jess to join him. She would finally get the playmate she had been training him to be.

It didn’t matter how close he was really, when he wasn’t curled up beside her in the bed, Jess slept lightly. The more time passed the more comfortable the two were now, she’d moved in and now she got to curl up in his bed every night without him complaining much. Most nights he was working till late anyway, she was grateful on nights he made it to bed even for a few hours before she had to wake up and be somewhat productive. Besides, waking him early would teach him to stay up late locked in his study when he should be snuggling with her.
Half asleep, she barely stirred as she felt the bed move with his presence. Usually now all she had to do was reach over and curl up against him when he laid down. However as she was getting ready to move he removed the blankets and earned a small squeak of surprise from her as her eyes opened to see what on earth had gotten into him. Before she could ask though, he nipped at her ears and she shuddered at the feel of it, her wolf instantly eager to nip back at him. His words woke her up, the tone of thm clear that he was feeling playful apparently and she was not allowed to sleep anymore. Fair was fair, but now she didn’t want to sleep.
With a giggle, she nipped at his cheek before rolling off the bed and onto the floor. Already free from her pajamas, a new habit she’d started to try and get Strum to bed sooner, she relaxed and her wolf fed off his energy and within moments the wolf stood before him on the floor. She gave him a playful growl before bolting out of the bedroom door and down to the first floor she not only more room to run but multiple tables to hide under. This would feel normal, but usually he was chasing her because she was misbehaving, now he was chasing her because he wanted to play. It made her beyond happy to feel such energy coming from him.

Jessica beat him to the punch, shifting and leaving the room before he had even left the bed. That was pretty much cheating, since even when he was shifted she was faster than him. He’d get her, though. Once she stopped, she’d be in trouble. He was bigger, and he was stronger. Wiggling out of the last of his clothes, Strum leaped off the bed. Fur covered him from head to toe before his feet had a chance to touch the floor. His wolf would not give him even a second more in his human skin. It was not quick enough, not small enough, not fun enough. That was easily remedied, though.
The second he felt the carpet beneath his feet, he bolted after Jess. Strum simply would not allow her to have all the fun. That was simply unacceptable. In all the excitement, he found himself running too fast to stop. Not able to skid to a halt quickly enough, he slammed into the stair railing. It stunned him, causing him to look from the railing to the stairs and back again with as puzzled a look as a canine could manage. His shoulder hurt from it momentarily, but it was obvious the now bent railing had suffered most of the damage. Shaking off the temporary lull in his merriment, Strum continued down the stairs, quick as he could, after the ball of red that now decided to hide from him.
Where had she gone? It had not taken him long at all to follow that tantalizing scent of hers to where she had taken refuge. Silly Jess though a table could hide her. Strum barked playfully at her, reminding himself of how often he thought her a dog when she did just that. As much as he would have liked to crawl under the table with her, he was afraid something would get knocked over. He was sort of too big to be crawling under furniture, especially if he were adding another body to that all ready confined space. To emphasize the dog-like characteristics, he crouched down and wagged his tail at her, giving her another bark just in case she was unsure of the first one.

As he approached the table she was under, she crouched, ready to sprint back out the opposite side if he attempted to lunge under after her. The perks to being a small wolf was being able to hide in places he couldn’t easily reach without damaging the house. In fact she was pretty sure she had heard him skid into the railing upstairs, she’d need to remember to laugh at him for it later. Usually she was the destructive one, not him.
Yet he didn’t come under the table, he sat there and...barked...and...was his tail wagging? At this point she just felt had had to be mocking her. So she just gave him a look, one that made it clear, he was aware of what he was teasing her about. Wanted to call her a dog eh? Well then she’d act like a misbehaved little pup. Turning her head, she began gnawing lightly at the table leg. She only did this long enough until his face made it seem like he would lunge under there and eat her for putting teeth marks in the table.
Before he could though, she scurried out from under the table in a blink, shoving one of the chairs in his path on her way out to give her just barely a few seconds ahead of him in the small space. However she found herself in the living room, trying to decide where she wanted to go next. The decision making was going to get her caught, so where would it hurt less to be caught? A bed. The stairs were never one of his favorite things to chase her on anyway.
Just as she felt he was barely inches from her, she sprinted to the side and ran up the stairs. The railing was indeed damaged and she snickered to herself before slipping into the open guest bedroom and jumping up for the bed right about the time Strum finally caught up with her and the mass of fur slammed into her. Leaving her nipping at him playful as she bounced against the mattress.

That look Jessica gave Strum made it more than clear she had understood he was teasing her for her doglike nature. Well, if she’d stop acting like a pet, he wouldn’t have to treat her like one. Not that he really, truly minded. Strum enjoyed her playful, rambunctious nature. He had needed a bit of fun in his life, whether he wanted or not. And there she was. Jess had come out of nowhere, imposing herself on him and making him take care of her. Strum could tolerate Jess, though. Especially if there could be more nights like this one.
His tail stopped wagging and he pulled his upper lip back in a snarl when her teeth met the table let. He let out a threatening growl that seemed to get the message across, because she stopped. When she darted out, he made to chase her but found a chair shoved in his way. Only a minor inconvenience. Strum leaped over it, knocking it over. That stopped him because his feet got caught in the legs of the chair, tripping him. Before he could stop, he felt his snout whack the floor, shortly followed by the rest of his body. Dammit.
Righting himself, Strum spotted Jessica just standing there. A grumble emitted from him when he watched her bolt up the stairs. His wolf hated the stairs. Jess could take them quick with no problem, but he was a bit bigger and a bit slower. After a moment’s pause, he followed her as quickly as he could manage. She knew she would have the advantage moving up the stairs. Cheater. He would have to make her pay for that when he finally caught up to her. If he could only catch her, he could pin her and keep her from moving. Then the bigger, badder wolf could have his fun without damaging anything else in the house.
The guest bedroom was the perfect place for them to play. At least then the things which got broken didn’t matter as much. Just as she made it onto the bed, he pounced and took her down. She nipped at him, and he nipped back. His teeth found their way to her neck, but it was all playful. Then he leaped up, shoving her off the bed while he lay on it, wagging his tail and barking at her. Strum could be the dog tonight.

Playing in the house was just making the small wolf cockier with what she could get away with. Being smaller had its advantages inside, she was harder to catch and she knew with all his stumbling and crashing about that he was just going to make things difficult for her when he managed to catch her. While she expected the nipping it was the shove that took her by surprise. He didnt need to try vey hard to push her around, she rolled as she hit the ground giving him an 'angry' bark when she settled on her stomach and shot him a glare. There he was wagging that stupid tail of his looking as cute as possible and she knew he was still just making fun of her. Yet he didnt seem to be minding it all that much now that he was instigating as well.
Jessica knew that playing king of the bed was only going to end one way, Strum would manage to shove her off everytime he desired. That did not mean that she was going to just let him lay there peacefully. Not wanting to waste even a minute she simply jumped on the bed from his side her teeth playfully going for his legs. It would make him focus less on pushing and more on avoiding the nipping wolfs teeth from sinking into any of his limbs.
When he moved to avoid her she simply shoved her face into his side in an attempt to either push him off the bed or at least onto his side. However compared to her it was like trying to push over a cow by headbutting it, chances were it was not going to end in her favor but she was at least going to irritate the crap out of him until he grew tired of playing and finally found the desire to sleep. Not that either of them would apparently be getting much today but she couldnt really see anything wrong with that. Usually she was the one depeiving him of sleep after long nights of trying to write, yet he still hadnt eaten her so she had to be doing something right.

Strum kicked his legs to avoid the teeth on any part of him; accidents did happen, after all. When simply kicking around didn’t subdue the beastie Jess, he tucked his legs under and rolled over. Which seemed to be the thing she wanted from him. The headbutt to the side elicited a growl from the wolf. Jessica had apparently been trying to roll him off the bed. Did she honestly expect that to work? Her efforts only managed to push him a few inches before he decided he’d had enough of her shenanigans. He reached around and nipped at her front paws before jumping to his feet and over her.
He growled again for good measure, but he also let out a couple quick barks afterwards to let her know she hadn’t angered him. It was odd for him to be in a playful mood, but it wasn’t unheard of. Strum didn’t want her to be on edge, expecting him to snap back at any moment and call everything off. He was happy with her. She made him feel giddy enough to play around as if they were dogs and not people. She brought out the puppy that was buried very deep inside him. It was Jessica that made him comfortable in both his skins, and there was no way he could think to properly tell her that.
And so he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t worry about words or feelings; he would simply be and let it all handle itself on its own. Jessica seemed content living life the way they were living it, and Strum couldn’t possibly have been happier to let it all continue the way it was.
Another playful growl rose from his muzzle as he fought away the human thoughts. There was a time and place for them, and right then was not it. Laying on top of her, he held her down with all his weight and licked at the back of head until the fur there stood on end. When he was happy with the mess he had made, Strum leaned in and nipped at her ears a few times, settling with chewing on one for a moment.
When she struggled, he hopped up and jumped off the bed, his clumsy legs collapsing underneath him and sending him rolling head over paws. A grumble settled in his chest as he lay on the floor in a heap of jumbled wolfie parts. It took him a bit to right himself, and by then he had lost interest in running off. Plopping down on his side, he looked up at Jessica on the bed and barked at her. She better have planned on coming to him, because he wasn’t getting up.

While none of the attempts to strike him seemed to land, she wasn’t very upset by it. In pack terms she was almost certain she was what they considered a submissive, not for lack of trying mainly because she was just a weak little pup compared to most of them. Jessica doubted she even had the potential to actually sink her teeth into Strum let alone manage to use enough force to hurt him. For a moment she paused, waiting to see what he was going to do but he seemed lost in his thoughts for a moment. Her head tilted slightly to the side, silently wondering where he had wandered off to.
Once he left his own thoughts though, she found herself stuck beneath him and a tiny growl of annoyance escaped her as this drool slowly saturated her fur. Thankfully he either grew bored or satisfied with the damage did and moved his attention to her ears, so she let him. Mainly because her ears were very sensitive and it was a feeling she very much enjoyed. After a few nips she reminded herself she was suppose to be annoyed and struggled to free herself from beneath him.
Not seeing a need to keep her there, he jumped away very ungracefully. If she had been human she probably would’ve ended up on the floor in a fit of tears from laughing at him. Strum the all powerful, tripping over his own paws in bed. The event seemed to be the last straw for his surge of playful energy because the lazy mutt just laid there barking at her. What was he too wounded to put himself back on his feet?
With a huff and a slight eye roll, she complied and hopped onto the floor. Before he could figure out her intentions, she moved in to snuggle with him, burying her head into his side to help wipe all the lovely saliva he’d given her right back onto him. Once she felt it was as fixed as she could make it, she continued to burrow her head against him, nipping lightly at his jaw before plopped herself on the floor beside him. It was odd to see him in such a mood, she was glad she had been the one close by to enjoy it with him though. A whine with a mix of a grumble escaped her as she pressed herself closer, as if trying to burrow right under his skin, still nipping lightly as his ears, cheeks, whichever parts she could reach. The urge to touch him was always impossible to ignore in this form, even when she was human it was tough, it just seemed to ground her.
