As Jess had promised her, by the time the sun came up, she was back to her normal two legged self. Well, naked in a strangers now very unhappy looking bathroom normal self. Pushing herself off the floor, she sighed at the shredded remains of her clothes, and saw that a note had been slipped under the door. Looking at it like it might actually explode if she touched it, she finally picked it up to read it.
-Went out to grab food. There are clothes for you outside the door, eat, take a nap, we’ll be home soon. Please stay! We need to help get you adjusted to being a wolf!
Love, Jess & Cyprus
Who the hell was Cyprus? Thinking back on the night, she figured he was the boy she’d spent most of the night whining at to let her out. A grumble informed her that she was hungry, very hungry, she hadn’t eaten last night and she’d wanted to so very badly. Cracking the door, she didn’t hear anyone else in the house, so after a moment to be sure, she snatched the clothes Jess had left for her (Jess’s judging by the look of them) and pulled them on. Jess hadn’t looked very big from what she’d seen of her, which was good for Lana because he clothes were almost a perfect fit. At least the woman had been nice enough to leave her a simple t-shirt and sweat pants.
Once they were on, she debated even longer about her things, her shoes, about taking off and never coming back because these people had to be half insane to find her trying to steal from them and then ask her to stay. Being a werewolf though...that thought sent a chill down her spine at the thought of ever shifting again. What would happen next time when she woke up, lost, with none of her belongings around? Sighing, she finally abandoned her things in the bathroom, decided at the very least she should wait until they returned to see if they were really just going to forgive her and help her out. People didn’t usually help her, but rogue-weres were very often frowned upon and many even killed, or murderers because they never learned to control their other half. She wasn’t a fan of most people, but she had no intentions of going on any blood-thirsty killing spree just because the full moon was out.
Lana made her around the house slowly, mainly because part of her actually wondered if someone was still home and just waiting to sneak up on her and send her away for breaking and entering. So far, it was empty, and once she reached the kitchen, she quit caring if anyone was home or not she felt half starved. The cookies on the counter, well the three that were left, were gone first. One was only half eaten and still in her mouth as she finally opened the fridge and began rummaging through it to decide on what she wanted to eat that would fill her up. She never heard the truck pull up, or the door open, because at the point she had leftovers piled on the counter and was making a lot of noise finding the plates and silverware.
Returning the to fridge for the one thing she’d somehow forgotten, a drink, she turned, ready to close the fridge only to find herself staring at death. Not really death obviously, but if you’d ever seen Strum angry, it looks similar. All she knew was a very large, very unhappy looking man, who most likely lived her, had just found her digging through his fridge. He smelled like Jess, not just of her but the same scent she assumed had to be wolf. He was a werewolf, and he was probably going to eat her. So before he could make a step towards her, she sprinted out of the kitchen. Normally she’d run right outside, but her things were in the bathroom, so she went there. Snatching her bag, she realized she couldn’t lock herself in the bathroom because she’d scratched the door to hell, however she could hear him right behind her so she went for the next closest door without worrying about what it was to and locked it behind her. The bed looked big and cozy, but unless she was going to hide under it, she was probably stuck in here until Jess returned home to save her.

They had only been out on pack business for a few days, but Strum was all ready homesick. He just wanted to get back to his house and snuggle up with Jessica. Their work had gone on much longer than he had hoped. So long that he had not even had time to return home before the full moon. Things were still a mess because of The Sickness, and he had no doubt it was going to take much longer than a few days to clean up the mess and get everyone back on their feet. At least they had the cure now; that was a victory he could be proud of.
He knew being away was important, and no one took the pack more seriously than Strum, but he was just glad to be home. Jason bid him farewell as he hopped out of the truck. Waving back at the man, Strum said goodbye as friendly as he could manage while still making it clear he was not to be disturbed until he had rested. “Right, well if you could, give me a couple days,” he said, “My phone is off, and I’ll be locking my door. See you in a few days.” With goodbyes said, Jason pulled out of the driveway and Strum stepped through the front door.
Instantly he noticed the scent of another. It was unfamiliar to him, but whoever they were, they were wolf. Had Jessica made a new friend? Their communication had been sort of scarce during his time away since he had been so busy he hardly slept (an almost defining feature of his at this point), but he was sure she would have mentioned a new friend hanging around the house. Especially a wolf who would leave their scent behind.
He also noticed another, sort of familiar aroma. The youngest of his brothers had been around. For what he could only speculate. Whatever it was, Jess probably shooed him away and told them to wait until Strum returned. He could get back with the kid after he rested for a couple days. It couldn’t have been too important if Jess hadn’t said anything about it.
Sleep, while dominant, was not the only thing on Strum’s mind. He was starving. Hanging around the hospital and moving about the homes of the sick and recovering had given him little time for food. If times and circumstances had been different Strum was certain Jason would have scolded him for it. Jason was probably just as sleep and food deprived as he was, though. As much as Strum wanted to just run upstairs and get some rest, he knew his stomach simply would not permit that until sated.
Knowing no sleep would be had until he was comfortably full, Strum made his way into the kitchen. Jess was a wonderful cook, and she always made significantly more than the two of them could eat. He assumed maybe she had a big family growing up and had never adjusted to a small household. It was something he would have to ask her later. Only seemed fair seeing as how she knew about his forgotten siblings. On his way to the kitchen he hoped there were still leftovers lying about in the fridge. It didn’t even matter was, because if Jess made it then he knew for a fact it would be beyond heavenly.
Of course, as life had a way of doing, Strum came to face something a bit more upsetting than an empty fridge. Standing in the kitchen, rummaging through his fridge and food was a girl. Immediately he put two and two together, knowing without thought that this was the wolf he had smelled when he walked in the door. Instantly he and his wolf were on high alert, ready to take up the defense should it be needed. The girl must have sense that, or was just scared at being caught, because she bolted the second she spotted Strum standing there.
Strum hurried after her, just far enough behind to allow her time to dart into the bathroom for her belongings, apparently. If he had not tripped up on the stairs running up he would have caught her coming out. Unfortunately he had, and that gave her time to tuck into his bedroom and lock the door. Righting himself, Strum came to stand outside the door. He twisted the handle frantically, knowing it would be no use. Now he was left with two choices: One, he could forcefully open the door – that would result in a broken lock and/or door – or two, he could sit around and wait and possibly give her the chance to escape.
As much as Strum really didn’t want to, he chose the first one. Slamming his shoulder into the door, it only took twice to pop the latch off the wall and swing the door wide open. He cautiously approached the bed where she sat, his hands in the air to show he meant no harm. Yet. If she didn’t have a good explanation then she was going to get herself eaten. He was starving, after all. “What are you doing?” he demanded, half-crouching and ready for a fight but voice calm and reasonable.
Just then he heard the front door open and two voices. Two? Yeah. One was Jessica and the other was his youngest brother, Cyprus. He could deal with his brother later. “Jess!” he called to the woman, knowing she’d hear him. “Could you come up here for a minute?”

“No, go away,” Cyprus grumbled at Jess as she attempted to wake him. “It’s not my fault she’s here.” Realistically he knew it wasn’t Jessica’s fault, either. He also knew it would be better to just help her get everything cleaned up and ready for Strum when he got home. Strum was not going to be happy with things even once they got all of it up the best they could. He could only imagine Strum’s face if he walked in on things as they were then. Cyprus only remembered the brother he had as a child, but from what Jessica had told him, the temper hadn’t gone anywhere.
Reason finally won and Cy rolled over and sat up. “All right, fine. Just let me change,” he told her, shooing her out. She wanted to go grocery shopping, too. Crazy woman had so much planned for the day that he didn’t know how they were supposed to get it all done. There was no way to know exactly when Strum would show up. The only thing they had to go on was a text message he had sent Jess saying he’d be home sometime that day. So helpful.
Feeling particularly lazy, Cyprus picked up his discarded shirt from the night before and threw it on. He found himself a clean pair of socks out of the duffel bag he had brought with him a few days prior. While Cy would have ideally loved to stay there permanently, he was not being overly optimistic. His belongings would stay in the bag until he got the absolutely confirmation from his brother. No sense in unpacking only to pack right back up and head out the door. Putting the socks on, he headed down the stairs to find Jessica in the kitchen.
It had all ready been cleaned up and tidied. He had no idea how she found time for it unless she just had not slept. Was that typical of a wolf after the full moon or was she just trying to get things done? Either way, he lifted the grocery list she had laid out on the counter and skimmed it. “You do all the cooking?” he asked. There was no reason he couldn’t help out if he was sticking around. Baking wasn’t exactly his forte, but he could manage a few meals or whatever.
Jess hurried him out the door so quick he almost didn’t have time to put his shoes on. Thankfully he had to slip a note under the door for their stranger wolf or he might not have been allowed back upstairs to grab them. It amazed him how much energy the woman had considering she had gone through two physical transformations in the past eight hours. She certainly set the bar high. Unless all wolves were like that. He wasn’t sure he would have too much fun if both Jess and Strum were just up for two or three days straight bubbling with energy.
The shopping had not taken as long as Cyprus expected it to. Jessica knew exactly what she wanted and exactly where to find it. He was impressed. It seemed the only thing she needed him for was to load and unload the car. Probably helped having an extra set of hands. All that extra strength of hers didn’t compensate for the limited amount of space her arms gave her to carry bags.
Carrying what he could up the doorstep, Cyprus popped open the door and waited for Jessica. “You think he’s home yet?” he asked her as she stepped through the door. The loud voice booming from the top floor answered that question for him. “Go on,” he told her, taking the bags she had from her, “Go see what he wants. I can take care of the groceries.” There was only thing Strum could have wanted at that moment, and Cyprus did not want to be around when the storm hit. He could handle the groceries while Strum yelled at Jess and the robber wolf.

Lana backed as far into the room as she could manage, jumping quit a bit as the large man broke the door in. On edge, she waited, expecting him to rush her, her heart threatening to beat itself right out of her chest if it didn’t calm down soon. Fear was difficult to manage, few things scared her, but this new wolf in her mind was telling her that the man before her was not someone she wanted to be too close to when he was angry. Obviously this was his house, and he’d just returned home to a stranger helping herself to the fridge and a very busted bathroom.
What was she doing? Trying to get away from him obviously, what was so difficult to understand about that? Either way, the girl didn’t know how to answer him, or really want to, even though he was talking his body language informed her he was more than ready to tear her to pieces. Thankfully the sound of the door opening was somewhat a relief. As soon as Jessica appeared behind him and proved to be the distraction Lana needed to rush past the big guy and slip into the hallway to her esc- Jessicas hands. Damn the woman was stronger than she thought, though she should have figured as much knowing what the woman was.
Tensing, she debated struggling to get free and running anyway. Yet she didn’t want to see what would happen if she struggled to get away from Jessica. So the girl let herself be tucked behind the woman, feeling slightly better having her between herself and the man would wanted to eat her, Jessica might be convinced he didn’t but Lana was 95% sure he was going to murder her as soon as Jess was out of the way. Once it was explained why she was here, she felt the need to chime in, “I only broke in for painkillers.” Before quieting up once more and trying her best to just hide behind Jessica. Not that she didn’t normally break in to steal more valuable things, but she didn’t want him thinking she had been trying to steal from them, she’d honestly just been hoping to get anything to help her feel better.
Jessica informed her that she should go help Cyprus put things away. Lana only looked at her like she was insane at first. Help who with what? Cyprus had to be the boy but why the hell would they want her to put groceries away? Figuring the woman knew better than she would on how to handle the man before them, she decided not to argue it. Once she was released, she ran down the stairs and stopped at the door. All she had to do was open it and run and she’d be fine. Maybe. What would happen next time? Would she actually hurt someone? Biting her lower lip again she finally caved in and set her bag by the door before walking into the kitchen. Not sure of what to say, she said nothing and simply began helping put food away, catching on by following him around where things had to go.

While Jessica felt slightly bad for bothering the boy on probably one of the few days he would’ve slept in, he wasn’t the only tired one in the house and she needed the extra hands if Strum was going to come home and not be in a bad mood about the condition the house was currently in. Everything could be fixed, easily, she was going to make a few calls and get the bathroom fixed up within the week. Strum wasn’t going to be happy, but considering she’d broken in and ruined his couch the first time and now she was living with him, she figured he had a big enough heart that the girl had at least enough time to explain herself and help get everything back the way they had it.
She had been tempted to wake her and move her into a bed but she was worried the girl would run the moment she woke up. Waking up with no one around and a nice note might convince her to at least her Jessica out before she ran off and became a threat to people around her. In no time they were in the car and at the store, thankfully it was not something she dragged her feet doing. Knowing exactly what they needed and the best way to get everything quickly, she and Cyprus had the shopping done in no time. So quickly that she was almost tempted to start convincing the boy to help her more often.
Arriving home, she sighed seeing Strums vehicle in the driveway. Maybe the girl was still sleeping in the bathroom and he’d walk right by without even noticing. Which was obviously a foolish thought because even if she wasn’t awake Strum would know she was there, the house smelled of a new wolf and he would never miss it. As they walked in, Cyprus got her to smile as he offered to take the groceries while she dealt with the grumpy bear upstairs. “I can guess what he wants, hopefully he hasn’t eaten her yet.” Handing over her bags she hurried up the stairs, frowning as she passed the now empty bathroom.
Strum was in their bedroom, and by the looks of it he had forced his way in. Frowning, she wondered what had happened when he’d gotten home to cause more damage. Jumping a bit as the girl tried to sprint not only past the big bad werewolf but by her as well, she grabbed the girls arms to force her to stop and pushed the girl behind her. “Relax, he’s not going to eat you.” She reassured, not about to let the girl wiggle away over fear. Turning her attention back to Strum, she gave him the smile she always did when he’d been gone too long, “Hi sweety, so we had a little break in last night. She didn’t know she was turning, no one got hurt but I couldn’t just kick her out without feeding her and having one of you make sure she can be on her own like this.” Biting her lip she merely shrugged at the end, the destruction had to be self-explanatory given there had been a new wolf in the house all night.
Glancing at Lana over her shoulder after the girl spoke up, she gave her a smile. “Go downstairs and help Cyprus put the groceries away. We’ll be right down to explain what we need to okay.” Once the girl was gone, she returned her attention to Strum and walked up to wrap her arms around his waist and nuzzle into the side of his neck. He looked angry, but she’d learned easy ways to make him less angry with her, touching was one of those tricks. “I’m sorry I forgot to call, I didn’t expect you home so early and had to rely on barking at Cyprus just to get any messages sent last night.”

As soon as Strum found himself distracted by Jessica, the young wolf bolted. Or tried to, anyway. Jessica caught the girl before she got far, thankfully. Strum did not want the girl running about his house and thinking she could get away with it. She was insane if she thought she could break into his home and then leave without any sort of reprimand. At least she gave up fighting Jess. The woman was pretty comforting – something Strum knew from experience. The girl could trust Jessica to fend off the bid bad Strum. Temporarily, anyway. He would have taken care of the wolf all ready if he didn’t fear Jessica’s reaction.
Jessica’s assurance of Strum’s behavior and promise he’d be good were not entirely founded on truth. He had yet to make up his mind on how exactly he was going to deal with the girl. Crossing his arms over his chest, he cocked an eyebrow in interest. “I’m not?” he asked, not sure he wouldn’t eat the girl given the opportunity. She still had a small window to prove herself a non-threat, but he could not guarantee her much leeway without Jessica’s help.
Which, of course, Jess offered readily. She skipped right to the explanation of the girl’s presence. Strum was not at all happy to learn the girl had been around since the night before and he had simply not been informed. That meant two people had been hanging around his home without knowledge. Jess really was going to have to get better about letting him in on things which happened in his absence. All though his absence wasn’t something he planned to worry about for some time yet. With the sickness business quieted, he could spend a lot more time around the home and with his Jess.
Once he took care of the scavenger wolf, of course. “You are lucky I’m too soft to kick you both out,” Strum said, uncrossing his arms and shaking his head. The girl piped up to give her own bit of the story, and he could not help but give her a quizzical look. “Painkillers?” he asked, “For what?” What worried him most was that meant she had spent at least some time in the bathroom. His curiosity got the better of him, and he led the way out of the bedroom and into the hall. The sight of the destroyed bathroom had eluded him on his chase earlier, but now he saw it clearly.
Fantastic. His guest bathroom was absolutely destroyed. It was definitely unusable. “I assume that girl is responsible for this?” he asked, knowing the answer. Thankfully Jessica shooed the girl downstairs, because Strum was not sure he could be nice to her knowing the destruction and theft she had caused. In one night, too. What was it with strays destroying his property when he was thoroughly exhausted? Couldn’t they wait until he had proper sleep first?
Jessica quelled the anger which had begun to spark with just a simple touch. He welcomed her embrace, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her in. “Really? I wish I could have been here to see that,” he laughed at her as she explained how she had handled the night before, “I love your little barks.” Pulling away, Strum offered her a chaste kiss. Then a thought occurred to him, and he found himself asking, “What is Cyprus doing here?”

Surprisingly there was not yelling coming from upstairs. Had Cyprus imagined his brother’s temper from years before, or had Strum simply mellowed out over the years? The thought was somewhat pleasant, and gave him the hope that maybe Strum would be more open to him being there. Cy would wait until things chilled out with the new wolf first, though. He was not about to add kindling to the fire before it had a chance to die out first. There was no sense in riling Strum up even more with a small request. If Cyprus was lucky, he could wait out and catch Strum in a much better mood before asking to stick around.
Just as Cyprus set the last of the groceries on the kitchen counter, a girl came into the kitchen and began helping him sort through thing. He could only assume this was the wolf who had spent the night in the bathroom. “Hey, puppy dog,” he greeted her, “The big bad wolf send you off to help me?” Not that he was going to complain about the help. She followed him about the kitchen as he searched for where things went. It was only his third day there, so it wasn’t as if he knew everything. She didn’t know that, though, and she followed him about while picking it up pretty quickly. Jessica kept the kitchen pretty well organized, so it wasn’t difficult.
“You know,” he said, turning to lean against the counter and cross his arms, a wide grin spread across his lips, “You’re pretty cute considering how scruffy you look.” It wasn’t exactly a compliment, and he hadn’t really meant it as one. “I’m Cyprus,” he introduced himself, assuming she knew that from the note Jessica had left for her. “You gonna be sticking around for a while? Let my brother take you under his wing and all that?” Turning back to the groceries, he began sorting again. “I assume since he hasn’t eaten you yet, you’re good to go.”

Silence was the boys only response from Lana as she helped put things away. The big bad wolf upstairs had done nothing but question whether he was going to eat her or not, if he’d had a say before Jessica she would not be down here putting things away. Lana was also irritated that he’d called her puppy dog, how often was she going to have to deal with that now? Ignoring it, she simply continued to help hoping they would finish before Jessica returned downstairs. The woman had been kind and possibly saved her life twice, the least she could do was put her groceries away and leave without destroying anything else in her home.
Of all the things he said, it was the cute that finally got her to look at him. Though the look clearly let him know she thought he was either insane, or simply toying with her. Cute? What the hell did that mean? Well she knew what it meant, but she’d never actually had anyone say that to her out of the blue. Especially not while managing to make fun of her at the same time. Scruffy? Lets see how he looked after being trapped in a bathroom all night as a wolf. He wouldn’t look nearly as good as he did now. Why she gave a damn if he looked good or not baffled her yet it suddenly just felt like he was challenging her.
“I don’t stay anywhere. Jessica is the only reason he hasn’t eaten me, I highly doubt he has any interest in taking me under his wing. That’s not something people do.” For her anyway, what did this kid think? Her breaking into their home somehow now meant she was staying forever? What an odd little family they had. “And it’s Lana.” She informed him a bit snippy, normally not a fan of giving out her name but if she didn’t he’d only make up more things for her.
If he honestly thought she was good to go though maybe Jess was right, they’d let her know the ground rules of how to handle what she was and she would be free to go do whatever she pleased. Yet part of her still felt panicked that it wasn’t going to be that easy to just be invisible now that she was a werewolf, wandering from city to city was going to be more dangerous with people in the cities who might seek her out feeling territorial.
Turning as Jessica returned, she stayed silent as the woman placed her hands on the two youngest and lead them to the chairs at the table. “Sit, I’m going to start breakfast and my two little runaways are going to talk to Strum before he eats you both.” Both? The boy was in trouble? Runaways plural? What exactly had the boy done to get roped in with her? Staying silent for a moment, she figured Strum would deal with his brother before letting her know how much trouble she was in.

Rolling her eyes Jessica still smiled and laughed at his teasings. There was no point in denying her puppy-like nature and if it made him happy she was not about to attempt to change those habits. Returning his kiss she grinned before giving him a second, followed by a third and fourth because it had been many hours since she’d been able to do so and that was just far too long for her to be happy about. Despite the mess there was to deal with, he wasn’t upset, which meant it was going to be very easy to get through. With how shaky the problems had been with the sickness, it felt nice to be dealing with the things they were use to.
As they stood before the bathroom she sighed and nodded. “She was shifting, the painkillers were because she thought she was just sick. When I found her...well I didn’t want her out in the house with Cyprus here, I figured keeping her in the bathroom was the safest bet….just you know...not for the bathroom.” It could be replaced though, no one being hurt was what she was happy about considering how many people had managed to get very hurt in the last few weeks.
Cyprus was a curveball for her though, and the shock on her face at his question only proved that. “I thought you knew he was coming. The way he showed up and just kind of walked in made me think he had talked to you and you’d gotten busy and forgot to tell me.” She didn’t know the boy much to think he would just show up without asking when he barely knew the two of them yet. He’d been so happy to stay even when she’d told him Strum wouldn’t be home for a while. Sighing she just shook her head and laughed, “Two runaways and a broken bathroom. Cyprus also stole our bed last night so I’m going to was those sheets…”
Taking his hand in her own, she intertwined her fingers with his and went up on her tip toes to kiss his cheek. “Let’s start with some food in your stomach so you don’t feel such a need to eat either of them while you talk to them.” He had to talk to them, mainly because she had no idea what to do with either of them now that they were here. Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out with a smile before showing him Natalya had answered her help request. “Our Bolverk will be over in a few hours, I figured she was a good alpha to get to sponsor the girl. I think they’ll get along well.” Pulling him along, she made her way to the kitchen and quickly shooed both of the teenagers to their seats.
Strum couldn’t eat them while she was in the same room, she just hoped they would both play nice and remember not to irritate him anymore than they possibly had. While they began going over what needed to be done, she began cooking for 6 figuring that even though Natalya took wonderful care of herself, werewolves were always happy to have food offered when they walked in.

Typically Strum would have been obscenely angry – or at the very least, mildly annoyed – given the current circumstance, but he was finding it very difficult to be upset at the new wolf. She was so new she thought painkillers would help the pain from shifting. Actually, from the way things sounded she had no idea she was shifting until it happened. Poor girl. While he was not in any way happy about it, Strum was thankful for the return to semi-normality. At least no one was dying. New wolves he could handle. It was not pleasant, but he could be content knowing she would be taken care of. She would be okay.
Jessica explained a bit more about the girl’s predicament, and Strum felt a twinge of guilt for not being around to help with settling things. He may not have been a huge amount of help as a wolf, but at least he could have controlled her if she had gotten out of hand. Just knowing a new, undisciplined wolf had been in the same home as his human baby brother stressed him out far more than could have been healthy for his heart. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be here for that,” he apologized to her, returning her kisses in sincerity, “Sounds like you definitely had your hands full.”
On the topic of Cyprus, neither Jess nor Strum had any idea why he was hanging around. Shaking his head, Strum returned her look of shock with one of his own bewilderment. “I had no idea,” he said. He found himself laughing about washing their sheets. One night wasn’t going to ruin them he was sure. “I didn’t think he smelled that bad,” he laughed again.
There was an offer of food. Strum forgot all other problems in that moment, and his stomach agreed with a loud grumble. “I could never turn down your cooking,” he admitted, allowing her to drag him along down the hall. He had felt starvation before. True, honest, real starvation. To the point of his body consuming itself. And yet he still had trouble telling the difference between that feeling and simple hunger whenever Jess mentioned food. Strum was not a horrible cook – he liked to think he did pretty well on his own before her – but he knew he in no way rivaled her ability. One of the many, many things he loved about her.
Her movement halted to show him the text message. “Really?” he asked with a playful, “Guess I better play nice then, huh?” Strum and Natalya were old friends. He wasn’t even sure where he had met her anymore he had known her so long. Not before being a wolf, but pretty close to. In fact, he had been the one to introduce her to the local pack and Jason. He was still making up for that one.
Once in the kitchen, Jessica instructed the two intruders to sit. Strum followed her, wrapping his arms around her and nuzzling her neck before allowing her to step away and start preparing lunch. Or was it breakfast? Strum had yet to be to bed, so he wasn’t even sure anymore. Taking his place at the table, he looked between the two. “I know why you’re here,” he said to the young wolf who had still yet to introduce herself, “Sort of.” He was still a bit foggy on the details, but he knew enough to know she needed help.
“Cyprus,” he addressed the boy, “Why are you here? I assume you’ve been staying over.”

A laugh was the response Cyprus decided would suit best the girl’s reaction. She did not seem at all happy about how he addressed her. For some reason Cy got the feeling it would be more fun than he could imagine to tease her. While taunting a rabid animal was never a good idea, he at least hoped she was too physically exhausted from the night before to shift and eat him right there. If not, then he would learn himself a very valuable lesson in tact.
He shrugged as the girl spoke. There really wasn’t much he could add, but he was sure Jessica would see to Lana receiving some sort of help. Probably from whoever Natalya was. “I like Jess. She’s patient,” he said, his back to the girl as he continued to put things away. He wanted the kitchen to be cleared by the time Strum and Jess finally showed up, because that would give Strum one less thing to be angry about. The calmer the big bad wolf was, the better things could potentially be for Cyprus. Look at him, being all positive. “Lana?” he repeated the name, thinking on it for a moment. With a nod, he turned to her and smirked. “Yep, like I said,” he chuckled, “Cute.”
Their little back and forth was cut short when Jessica and Strum came into the kitchen. Jess moved them into chairs at the table, and Cyprus pouted a bit in mock distress. “Aww, Jess,” he said, shaking his head and motioning towards Lana, “You can worry about me later. You’ve obviously got more important things to take care of with this stray hanging about.” He laughed at himself, not sure how the new girl was going to react to his teasings. Or Jess, for that matter. She had all ready seen a bit of his disobedience and headstrong resolution to do pretty much whatever he wanted, but would she appreciate his meanness, too?
Strum did not agree with Cyprus. In fact, he thought Cy was the most important issue at hand. At least important enough that it needed to be addressed first. The laughter faded quickly from Cy’s face as his brother spoke. “Strum, I-” he paused, knowing his request was silly and his wording would be even worse. He found himself looking down at the table for a moment, studying the unintentional patterns in the woodwork as he decided on how best to ask. “I just missed you, and I can’t stay with dad anymore,” he stated quickly, looking up and trying his best to maintain eye contact. “I’ve got a job. I could pay you rent.” He wasn’t sure how well that one would work considering the revenue his brother generated with his novels, but it couldn’t hurt to offer, right? Finally, a pitiable look of pleading came over him as he found himself uttering an almost needy, “Please?”

Cute? Really? Again? Surely he was mocking her, her name was just a name, what could be cute about it? Part of her was ready to inform him that just because she broke in did not mean he had to mock her while no one was around. Thankfully Jess interrupted any comebacks she had for him, though part of her wanted to growl at him when he began babbling that they could just focus on Lana since she was the biggest problem right now. Not that she really disagreed with him she just didn’t want to be the first one getting eaten.
Normally she wouldn’t have noticed that she had been slouching, however once Strum started talking to her, she sat up straighter. Lana felt nervous, the new creature inside her seeming to still be convinced that the man across from her could snap and break her in half any time he wished. So she sat up straight ready to defend herself, he knew why she was here but she was not about to sit here and be yelled at when she’d had no intentions of destroying someones home, they had been the ones to lock her in the bathroom. If he wanted her to pay for the damage...well that would be tricky considering she had nothing of value or a job.
Yet his attention was turned on Cyprus and she couldn’t help but turn a confused, and somewhat cocky smirk towards the boy. There he’d been, acting as if Lana was such a trouble maker, when he was apparently the main concern at the moment. Chances were it would take less time to figure out why the boy was here and whether or not he could stay than it would to inform Lana what she would have to do now. She wasn’t staying here, which meant right now problem number one was Cyprus. Odd, they way he’d acted he did live here, apparently she wasn’t the only one who’d simply helped themselves to his home.
Being on her own for years and relying on herself, she never truly understood the point of begging. Not that he was really begging, she just could never see herself giving someone reasons they should let her stay. Then again that was because half the people she might actually ask, didn’t really want her around, she was completely out of her element here. It was interesting though, it meant that for now she’d be able to see how a ‘family’ functioned. She’d learned more about the family in a matter of moments than she had about any other family before. She understood wanting to get away from the people you lived with, she just had never had anyone to rely on as a backup option.
Shifting a bit uncomfortably in her chair, she bit her lip and happily took the glass of juice Jess set before her to busy herself with drinking. Not that any part of this conversation was going to be her problem, she got to remain silent and invisible to the big bad wolf until he was done sinking his teeth into the boy. If she was lucky, any anger or irritation he had towards her situation would be spent on chastising Cyprus.

Not that Jessica minded him being home as often as possible, she hated how sorry he could get when he was not here and things happened she could’ve used help with. He worried too much, not that she could blame him after the way things had played out before, but thankfully Jess could handle a new wolf and a teenager without too many things going wrong. “You have nothing to be sorry about, I can’t handle much but I can handle a new pup thankfully.” Though part of her wished neither of them had shown up, mainly because her plans when Strum had gotten home had been to feed him, pull him to bed for a long nap, and then find creative ways to keep him awake once he woke up.
With two problems downstairs waiting his attention though, the kisses had to end and he got back to pointing out that the boy didn’t smell that bad. “Oh, I’m sure he smells fine, but he was in your spot and that spot is not allowed to smell like anyone else.” She teased, mainly because he knew damn well that while he was away she clung to his pillow to help her sleep. His pillow smelling even a little bit like any other would drive her insane. Cooking won over as always, and she was happy to get busy with the food and ‘ignore’ the conversation at the table.
Strum was in charge of what happened with Cyprus, she would not turn the boy away but she would not step in to argue one way or the other. This was between Strum and Cyprus after all and he already knew she’d agree with whatever he decided. Natalya would be over soon though and once she was they could all get Lana informed and hopefully settled with the idea of staying long enough to get use to her new skin before running off to...well she wasn’t sure where she’d come from. While the boys talked, she looked at Lana, “Is there anyone you need to call? I’d hate to think you’ve been here all night worrying someone sick.” The girl shook her head no, and Jessica let the subject fall. Poor thing didn’t look very happy about shaking her head, she was a bit young to have no one that was checking on her from time to time. Nate was going to have her hands full.
Starting simple, she poured enough juice and water for them and set their glasses before them before busying herself with the bacon and eggs on the stove. She’d been sure to get more bacon than normal, it was easy to make a man a bit less grumpy when you were busy piling hot bacon on his plate to eat when he was hungry.

The instant change in Cy’s demeanor when asked why he was there was concerning. Strum watched and waited in silence as the boy worked to get his words out. Leaning back in his chair, Strum stretched out his legs and got as comfortable as his sleep deprivation and hunger would allow. His patience would let him wait until Cyprus was clear on what he wanted before Strum had to make a decision. All though, from what Jessica had said, he all ready had a pretty clear idea of what his brother wanted. The only question then was “why?”
And then Cyprus spit it out and Strum understood. He had his own issues with their father. The man wasn’t exactly the most accepting of people, and that had put a wedge in any hopes Strum had of rebuilding their relationship. What could Cyprus possible have against the man, though? From what Strum had heard – all though it wasn’t much – the boy had a pretty good life. Was it really just his need to be with Strum that drove him out?
Sympathy wasn’t foreign to Strum, but couldn’t all of this have waited until he had slept? Cy couldn’t have waited to show up? With Strum’s luck? Ha, no. Groaning, he leaned forward and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. After a moment of thought, he heaved a sigh and spoke. “And if I say no?” he said, not really intending to turn the boy away now that he was here. “You didn’t really think this through very well.” What if Strum kicked the boy to the curb? What then? Would Cyprus have anywhere else to go, or would have he to hitch back to his dad’s place?
Strum looked to Jess, wondering her thoughts. She had not had an issue with the boy staying for as long as he had. Otherwise she would have sent him away, surely. She shouldn’t have to deal with his troubles when he wasn’t home. Next time he would have to think long and hard about whether or not he was really needed elsewhere, or whether she could just assist them. Jason wouldn’t mind her tagging along, and then maybe for once Strum could come back home and not have a mess to clean up before bed.
She had a good heart, though, and Strum trusted her decision. If Cyprus hadn’t caused too much trouble as of yet, then maybe it wouldn’t hurt anything to let him stick around for a while. Jess could use the help around the house, anyway. “Fine,” Strum relented, hoping he didn’t regret the decision later.
Jessica had turned her attention to the girl wolf, and Strum listened as she spoke. He raised a brow in curiosity when Lana admitted she had no one to call. Well, that eliminated the complication of her coming out to family, but now what would they do with her? Natalya would have to take her in; that was really their only option. Thankfully the woman would be around soon, because Strum was too tired to deal with everything right then. All he wanted was his breakfast.
Reaching across the table, Strum rested his hand on the girl’s arm, smiling friendly and warm at her. “We’re here to help,” he assured her, “in any way we can.” Even when he was utterly exhausted, it was still his job as Freki to make sure the new wolves were tended to to the best of everyone’s abilities. All of them knew what it was like to be the new wolf, and Strum never really forgot how that felt. He wanted to be there for this one, even if she had destroyed his bathroom.

Strum asked his questions, and Cy let his shoulders droop in defeat. His brother was right: he hadn’t thought any of it through. Avoiding looking a Strum, Cyprus laid his hands in his lap instead and twiddled his fingers. “I’m sorry,” he said meekly, prepared to leave if he were shooed away. It had been stupid of him to expect a man who hardly remembered him to take him in and things to just go back to how they had been. Cy had hoped, but hope hadn’t gotten him very far. And if Strum said no, there really was nothing he could do but pout and go back home.
Then Strum made his decision and Cy looked up with surprise. “Really?!” Cyprus perked up, looking at his brother with a flush of hope returning. Well, that was easier than I thought it would be he thought to himself, quite pleased with how quickly things seemed to resolve. He wouldn’t have to make any phone calls or hope for a ride now; he could just go back upstairs and actually unpack his things.
Even better, the attention turned fast from him to the wolf girl. A small smile crossed his lips as he watched his brother comfort the girl. None of them knew who she was, but that didn’t make a difference to Strum. Some of his old traits were still there – buried underneath a layer of mistrust and hardened lessons. Cyprus could only pray that, with time, he could help bring out all the good things he remembered. There were no old memories there for Strum to pull on, but that meant they could make new ones. That gave way to a whole new batch of possibilities, and it would be worth it if Cy had the energy to put in.
When Jess came round to pour him some juice, Cyprus just looked up and thanked her before turning back to watch the man across from him. It had to be unnerving to be monitored by someone so close, but he just couldn’t help it. Knowing there was nothing he could do to help Lana, instead he rose from the table and came to stand beside Jessica. “Need any help with that?” he asked, tossing away empty packages and wiping down the counter a bit in an attempt to stay busy. She was so nice that he felt like a complete mooch not offering his help.
