Dearest Eli,
I have a surprise for you, one that you just have to see. Come tonight. I look forward to your company.
Best regards, Jepsen
The letter had been folded neatly and sealed in an envelope. Feeling confident that the messenger understood his instructions, Jepsen sent him on his way. Perhaps with what he planned to show the Ulfric things would finally lighten up. The war had not started out as Jep’s fault, but he would be damned if he let it end in the wolf’s favor. No, Jepsen would win this one. He had a guaranteed ace in his hand this time, and Elijah would see things his way soon enough. Either that or he would lose every one of his wolves. Hell, he might lose them anyway. Jep had not completely decided what he would do when he won. His victory would be well celebrated, that was for sure. The wolves would rue the day they crossed him.
All that was left now was to wait. Jepsen was a patient man, a trait which he hoped to pass onto his prodigy. Sebastian had a difficult time hiding his nerves for this event. It was becoming so distracting that Jep sent him away for the meeting, something both men agreed would be for the best. It would not do for Elijah to see his opponents at odds amongst themselves, he might sense a weakness. Ian could be strong in his beliefs, but that was what made him weak now. Later they could discuss things, but it would be bad for him to argue with his Master in front of their guests. Hopefully Elijah would not mind it being just himself and the vampire. Jep liked to think he was good company.
Elijah came, as Jepsen knew he would. Rising from the throne set at the back of the main hall, Jep went to greet his guest. “Elijah, my dear friend!” he greeted the wolf, wrapping his arm around the man’s shoulder, “It is so good to see you.” A sinister grin broadened on his lips, knowing full well how Eli felt about him. “I know it has been quite some time since I have spent one-on-one time with you; I’m sure you have missed me. I am a busy man, though. Hard enough to make time for this.” The words meant literally nothing to him, senseless chatter. He wondered for a moment if Elijah knew that, but decided it mattered little what the wolf thought of how he treated his guests.
Getting straight to the point, he leaned in and spoke almost ecstatically, “I have a surprise for you. I think you’re really going to like this one.” Jepsen was more than excited to get to this part. He had wanted for some time to show Elijah the full potential of what he could do with the wolves, but Sebastian had insisted on waiting, prolonging everything. That was fine. The reward would be just that much greater.
“Come,” he said as he released the wolf, leading the way into the hall and outside a door. Turning to face Elijah, Jepsen leaned in to whisper loudly, “I’m afraid this room is a bit private.” The whisper was more for show than anything else, evident by the fact that pretty much anyone around them could have heard him. “It’ll just be you and I. Hope I don’t intimidate you too much.” Jepsen winked and opened up the door, holding it wide for Eli to step through before shutting and locking it behind them.
The room had been stripped bare for this event. Even the carpet had been removed. Easier to clean should any undesirable liquids end up all over the place. Jepsen was not planning on bleeding anyone right then, but things did happen. Moments of spontaneity did strike him on occasion. Motioning toward the only chair in the room, Jepsen smiled wide and suggested Elijah take a seat. “Please, sit,” he said, before turning his attention to the other man who occupied the room before they had come in.
It was obvious the young man (and he was very young, no way he was older than fifteen) was a wolf. Not just because the two of them could smell it, but because he had been forced to shift so many times that he was beginning to become more wolf than man. Silver chains were wrapped around his wrists tight enough that blood dribbled over the metal and onto the bare floor. Jepsen was sure the boy would have fought his way out if his legs had not been broken. Now, since he was a lycanthrope they healed rather quickly. That was why they had been broken at angles which made walking impossible.
Crouching down in front of the boy, Jep ran a finger under his chin and let out a harsh laugh when the wolf jerked back. “Allow me to introduce you to our guest of honor,” Jepsen said as he straightened up and turned to look at the Ulfric, “I’m sure the two of you are all ready acquainted.” With his eyes firmly on Elijah, he slowly moved behind the wolf on the floor while removing something from his pocket: a small needle filled with a clear substance.
That substance was his pride and joy. Something he himself had worked on for years. Perfected over decades. It was the solution to all his lycanthopic problems. Permanent solution, and there was no fighting it. The particular one he held in his hand was not of a contagious nature and had to be directly injected into the bloodstream. It had also been modified to speed up the reaction, lessening the chances of the wolf’s body being able to fight back while giving them a good show without the wait. He had seen it many times in action, but he had been looking forward to this showing more than anything in the world. Elijah now had a front row seat to the most deadly solution to the war.
“Now,” he said to Elijah, leaning over and placing his hand on the wolf’s shoulder, “I know you aren’t one to change your mind. I respect that. You stick to your guns no matter what the consequences.” The boy whimpered, tears welling up in his eyes. He knew what was coming, and Jep could tell he dreaded it. Popping the cap off the needle, he pressed it hard into the boy’s neck, hitting the vein on the first try. Slowly he emptied it into the wolf, his eyes on the Ulfric the entire time. Once the contents were gone, he removed the needle from the wolf’s neck and dropped it to the floor. Now the real fun began.
Moving around the boy, he made to stand beside Elijah. “I know you think what you’re doing is for the best,” he said, leaning in and emphasizing his words so that the wolf did not miss a single one. There would be no misunderstanding. “If you don’t call your wolves off, you will be subjecting every last one of them to this fate. And I promise you, it will be the slowest, most painful thing any of them have ever experienced.” Just as he concluded the boy doubled over coughing. Blood began pouring out of his mouth, staining the floor in front of him.
“Right now,” Jepsen explained, “his insides are tearing their way out of his body. Next will come the fever. Now, I know you wolves have higher temperatures than usual, which I compensated for. His skin will blister from the heat.” And it did just that, cracking and splitting in some places. “The next stage is aggression and hallucination. His body and mind are being destroyed at the same time.” A growl rose from the boy’s throat as he fell over, curling up from the pain. The cries of pain echoed off the walls, and Jepsen could not help but grin victoriously at Elijah. Only a very stupid man would be able to watch and still think his cause was worth fighting for. Jepsen had won.

Elijah wasn’t sure why he had agreed to come here. He was walking straight into the den of his enemy and yet he was doing so on invitation. He didn’t see another vampire in the building on his way in. Perhaps that was how Jep wanted it. A stand off so to say between the two of them. Whatever his plan was the ulfric was ready to face it. It would take more than a few vampires to bring Elijah down by himself. But in case this was a trap Elijah Was prepared. If it was going to end tonight he wasn’t going down without a fight. He couldn’t trust the new Fenrir to take the order so his former and any truly loyal to him had to suffice. If he didn’t leave the building by sunrise, they would do everything short of burning the place to the ground to enact their ulfrics final wishes. That was only if things went awry.
Stepping into the hall where the arrogant vampire kept his throne Elijah knew he was going to regret agreeing to this little meeting. Personally it was everything he could do not to come in here with the full force of his clan and end things. But that wouldn’t go well; with loyalties within the pack now divided He was not at full strength against his greatest enemy. So for now he would play by the vampire’s rules and come to the meeting alone. The arrogance that Jepsen radiated as he spoke, and with every action he took really agitated the ulfric. Before he could question what the big deal was however Jepsen went straight to his point. The words he used did not bode well with the Ulfric but then Elijah wasn’t really happy about any of this anyway. With little choice but to keep this peaceful for the moment he indulged the vampire and followed him as he led him into a small room.
It was the smell that caught him first as he entered the room, of a wolf, one he knew. His eyes fell on the boy the moment he was within sight. Elijah had wondered what had happened to the kid, He had been turned, like many others, on the ulfrics orders. Conscription was what he thought of it. First he would turn them and then force them to fight in his war. That was the way things worked now. Casualties varied, but ultimately he needed more soldiers, and that was why kids at the boys age where brought in, easier to train and to make stronger. But this one had disappeared not long after agreeing to fight. It was clear by the look of the boy now that he had been in Jep’s hands for a while. The severity of his injuries would have staggered most men. But the Ulfrics face remained cold as the vampire told him to sit.
The smirk on the vampires face as he continued with his demonstration was the same one Elijah had grown to hate with every fiber of his being. It had been the same grin he had used when he claimed that he had no idea what vampire had killed his wife all those years ago. Elijah glared at the vampire as he raised the needle to the boy’s neck. Just what was he planning on doing with that? The look on the man’s face as he injected the young man with the liquid was like that of one who had just won a game he really enjoyed. That did not set well with the ulfric. As the vampire walked back to his side Elijah’s eyes remained on the boy. What had Jepsen just done to him? The words that followed didn’t make sense to him at first but as the boy began to cough and bleed it became clear. That monster had done what Elijah could never have believed unless he had seen it himself. The boy’s coughs and screams of agony only showed him the truth.
As the vampire explained what his concoction was doing to the boy Elijah felt his blood begin to boil. As the boy’s body began to fail him. As Jepsen’s serum ravaged the boy, there was nothing Elijah could do for him. If it could kill that quickly there would be no time to save him. His gaze moved from the dying child to the vampire responsible. There was that grin again, like he had just won, like he wore every time they saw each other. Elijah couldn’t save that boy. But be damned if he let his death go unpunished. As the boy uttered his final cry’s Elijah moved to his feet. He was done playing nice with this vampire. He was just done with it all. His eyes shifted amber as he moved forward in a blur of motion. And as he grabbed the vampire he knew that with some satisfaction, his next actions would hurt.
Throwing Jepsen against the wall to the left of the boy Elijah moved right after him. Catching him and slamming him against the wall a second time. Thrusting his elbow underneath the vampires chin Elijah growled as his beast rose within him. His anger and hatred for the vampire dripping from his voice as he spoke. “Tell me why I shouldn’t kill you here and now, you sick son of a bitch. Tell me why I shouldn’t end this like I should have all those years ago.” He spat at the vampire in his clutches, his hands shifting to claws as he spoke. He no longer cared about making it out of this building alive. He no longer cared that he may very well have been surrounded by his enemy. 30 years of hatred and pain and now he wanted to end the one who had caused it. But he wanted it to hurt, he wanted Jep to try and weasel his way out of this one. IT would make hurting him even more enjoyable.

The aggressive reaction Jepsen received from Elijah was not surprising. In fact, Jep had anticipated it. He laughed in the man’s face as he felt his body hit the wall behind him. With the arm secured under his chin, he had no choice but to look up at the angry mutt – fine with him. The spittle on his face was a bit less welcome, but the anger was exactly what he had been going for. Jep knew from the beginning Elijah would not be persuaded. It had not even been a slight hope. At the point they were, it was just a matter of who held out the longest. Unfortunately for Elijah, Jepsen had found his ace.
“Two reasons,” Jepsen replied, not able to fight away the grin that had grown from the threat, “First, without me to stop him, nothing will keep Sebastian from making slaves of every one of your precious wolves.” Which was true. Actually, that had been a direct order Jepsen had given Ian if something were to happen to Jepsen. The wolves would be systematically enslaved and destroyed. His only regret would be he wouldn’t be around to see it.
That was not the only reason Elijah would lose the war if he killed Jepsen. If Elijah knew Jep at all, and he should have by then, he would have known Jep would not take any chances. He had more plan Bs than necessary. “And second, you kill me and that serum will be mass distributed to every hospital within a one hundred mile radius,” he continued, “There is no way for you to know whether your private stock has been contaminated, and if you dump it all just in case, your new shipment definitely will be.”
“Even you are not immune to it.” At the words, Jepsen grinned. A hand disappeared into his pocket, retrieving another needle. Before Elijah could stop him, Jep popped the cap on it and stabbed it into the wolf’s arm. This one was clean, nothing but intravascular saline. Wouldn’t do anything but hydrate the beast, but he didn’t have to know that, did he? If Elijah was smart he would have been concerned. The actual serum would react much slower to the werewolf virus than the display had, but that still did not give Jepsen much time before the animal realized he had been tricked.
Taking advantage of the man’s temporary ignorance of the situation, Jepsen shoved him away. He straightened up, brushing himself off in case he risked lycanthropic contamination. Disgusting thing. Crossing his arms, he shrugged and smirked at his temporary victory. “So how about you take your paws off me and we’ll talk about this like civilized men, huh?”
