Kyne had only been gone for a few hours, but Calvin was all ready beginning to feel that familiar sting of loneliness. He had no idea where Jessica had gone off to. All he knew for certain was she and Strum had left. Good thing, too. Cal was not about to go anywhere near Strum unnecessarily. He appreciated the effort Jason and Kyne had put in finding him someone to help him through his first transition, but did they have to pick someone so terrifying? Surely Strum was not all bad. Kyne trusted him, which should have been enough for Calvin. And it sort of was, otherwise he would have pitched a bigger fit about being there in the first place.
Moving about upstairs, Calvin came to stand in the open doorway of Cyprus’ room. He had not known the older boy too long, barely a couple days, but Cy was the only one in the house. And he had heard Cyprus wasn’t as rowdy without Lana around. There was no reason he couldn’t test that. Just to be sure. Plus it beat roaming the big house all by himself. There had been a time when Strum lived there all by himself, and just that thought baffled Cal. He could never have lived in such a big, lonely house all alone.
Knocking on the door frame, Calvin piped up and asked, “Are you busy?” It was clear Cyprus was at least semi-busy. Did he always sit around by himself when Lana wasn’t around? The alone time must have been nice considering almost all other times were taken up by the obnoxious wolf who apparently had a thing for stealing others’ belongings.
Cyprus did not look at Calvin, keeping his eyes on what he was working on. Calvin took it as a good sign that Cy did not simply tell him to buzz off. Even he knew how annoying and needy he could be sometimes. Time would fix that, he was sure. Right now, though, he was certain he was leaving a poor impression on a family who only wanted to help. “I’m feeling a bit lonely,” he said when Cyprus gave no answer, “Can I stay with you for a little while? I promise I won’t get in your way.”

The quiet of the house was calming, comforting. No one but the new little wolf was around. That included loud Lana, which was great. Cyprus loved having her around, but he worried his blood pressure ran up too high whenever she was around. One day he feared he would suffer a heart attack as a result from her antics. But not right then. Thankfully she was nowhere to be found. He was sure she would show up eventually, but for that moment he could relax and pretend she wasn’t real.
Calvin came to stand in the doorway, but Cyprus paid him no mind. He had tried his best to be friendly and welcoming to the boy, but there was only so much clinging Cy could take before he just needed his space. He would never understand how the wereanimals did it. If someone insisted on touching him all the time, if he felt the need to be touched all the time, why he might simply go mad from it all.
“Sort of,” he responded once the wolf showed he had no intention of going away without being heard. “Why?” Calvin explained himself quick, and Cyprus only managed to shake his head while stuck in his own thought. The pencil scratched at the paper, seeming to move with its own intentions and a life of its own. Plopping it down on the pad, he looked up at the boy who insisted on standing there looking pathetic. What would it hurt to humor him for the moment? Strum would probably eat him whole if he thought for even a second Cy was being rude to their guest. For some reason he got the impression the inside of his brother’s stomach would not be as comfortable as the bed he sat on.
“I don’t know, I need quiet,” he said, shaking his head again. Thinking it over, he breathed a sigh and nodded. “All right, but be quiet.”

Calvin smiled, crawling into the bed beside Cyprus. He snuggled up to Cy, leaning his head on the other boy’s shoulder, careful not to disrupt his drawing. “Thank you,” he said before giving Cyprus the silence he had requested. Silence was not foreign to Cal, and in fact it was something he enjoyed as long as white noise existed around him. Especially now that his newfound sense never allowed him true silence. The beating of the other man’s heart, the scratching of his pencil, the occasional car passing the house outside the window. It all was so new, but something he was quickly growing used to.
The front yard caught his gaze, stealing his attention away from the emptiness of the house. Nothing much ever went on outside. Strum had no pets which needed outside care. Every once in a while Calvin spotted a small wild animal such as a squirrel running about the surprisingly well-kept grass. He wondered if perhaps the green on lawn was not artificial, because even with the lack of frozen precipitation, it was still significantly colder outside than green things liked.
Every once in a while his eyes switched between the window and the paper upon which Cyprus drew, catching only small glimpses of whatever it was before a hand would come to cover the image, hiding it from his curious eyes. A few minutes of that dance passed before Cal watched a human-like figure stepped off the sidewalk in front of the house and onto the lawn. Scooting from his place beside Cyprus to get a better look, he frowned when he saw what was coming up the steps to the door.
“Lana is here,” he told Cy, not taking his eyes off the window. His thoughts and emotions were confused for a moment, not sure how he felt about her arriving. Sure, it meant the house was a bit less empty, but she was sort of unnecessarily mean.

Cy was not used to the amount of physical contact lycanthropes seemed to need, but he was sure this one needed a fair amount more. He could only imagine how upsetting that was from the inside; the constant need to be close to someone warm had to drive the poor kid insane. It would have Cyprus for sure. While he loved being closer to his brother again, he was happy just being in the same household. Even the person he cared for most in the entire world would not be smothered by him. Too bad Calvin felt different about all that.
What harm would it do him to let the boy cuddle for a bit? He knew what it was like to feel utterly alone in a house full of people. With no one else around, it wasn’t as if Cal could bother someone else. And he wasn’t really too bothersome. He remained quiet as Cyprus had asked, if only a little annoying with his prodding eyes. It made the process take longer. He knew if Cal didn’t find something else to focus on he was going to have to give up for the moment.
The reason to put the drawingpad down came in the form of another furry creature. Cyprus let out a sigh when Calvin announced Lana’s arrival. “Is she, now?” he said, folding over the cover and laying both the pad and the pencil on the nightstand. With Lana stealing his sketches he had taken to hiding the finished ones, but with these unfinished ones he wanted them in plain view. If she could see them, then so could he. If she really wanted to she could wrestle them from him, but he hoped it would not come to that.
“Well it looks like the fun is over,” he laughed as he leaned back against the headboard and waited for the obnoxious girl to find her way to him. Cy was not going to expend any more effort than necessary dealing with her. She was fun to be around, but only when he didn’t stress over her. To his knowledge she had nothing on him in that moment. The only way to know for sure was to wait until she showed up, and he had known from almost the moment the day began that she would be there at some point. What better time to annoy Cyprus than when there was no Strum to eat her for it?

How the hell could she possibly feel crappy? Nothing was wrong with her health and nothing negative had happened in a few days. Natalya wasn’t home and Lana had spend the better part of the last day passing around their home in search of something to do. Setting traps up in the house was no fun when she had no idea when the alpha would be home, and they’d made an agreement that if she had left for work, Lana would be safer not to attempt any tricks upon her return. Sometimes she came home just fine, however a few times she was aware of Natalya coming home with more than just bumps and bruises. The house was empty though, and she knew very well what her problem was, she wanted company.
No Nate being home meant no contact with another wolf, and while there was a whole pack to choose from she wasn’t exactly close to anyone in the sense that her just stopping by and hanging out would be seen as normal. Lana wasn’t use to this, the feeling of craving physical contact, normally she got her fill fooling around with the few people in her life who actually fought with her. Lana had been slightly avoiding Strums home, mainly because she wasn’t sure he was too happy with her attitude last time, but also because with her poor mood, she didn’t want to make the new wolf there unhappy. She didn’t really care much if she hurt his feelings by being honest but Jessica would never let her live it down if she made him cry.
Jess! She would be more than welcoming, a hug was a given walking into that house and that would probably be more than enough for Lana right now. A hug was better than nothing and maybe Cyprus had something new she could try to swipe and see how quickly he could catch up. Deciding that was her best option, she locked up and made her way over, only to have her hopes drop the moment she realized there was a vehicle missing. That didn’t always mean both of them were gone, but she could tell the minute she got to the door that Jessica wasn’t home. Biting her lip, she hesitated after she let herself in, nope, no Jessica, no Strum, but the door had been open which meant one or both boys were still home and probably upstairs.
With no interest to bother the other wolf, she just made her way to Cy’s room. Stopping at the doorway, she actually looked genuinely disappointed when she saw the two of them together. Mainly because they didn’t seem very thrilled to see her. “Am I interrupting you love birds? I can always come back later.” She knew Calvin was clingy, she just hadn’t pictured Cyprus to be one to let him get very close, even his drawing pad had been set aside, usually this time of the day he was working. Even though she was teasing, part of her gut twisted at the thought of the two being close which was odd because she couldn’t really place why.

A flutter unsettled Calvin’s stomach. The image of an agitated, pacing wolf came to mind as he caught Lana’s scent coming up the stairs. He had nothing against the girl, but she seemed to hate him. One more reason he was anxious to return home. His stay in Phoenix had been mostly pleasant, but it would never be home. Lana would probably be happy to see him go, and that feeling would almost be mutual. Even his wolf was unnerved by her. He wasn’t sure why. If he had to take a guess, he assumed it had something to do with dominance and her willingness to be so aggressive towards him – even if it was only verbal.
“Hi, Lana,” he greeted her anyway. There was no reason for him to be rude. On the contrary, Calvin had to fight the urge to rise from the bed and embrace her. His wolf wanted to make contact with hers even though she made him uncomfortable. The only thing which kept him from acting on the impulse was his knowledge that she would probably push him away. It would possibly also increase her level of mean, something he did not want in the least.
Instead Calvin leaned the back of his head against the window sill and pulled his knees up to his chest. How much trouble could he get in just watching the two? Cyprus and Lana tended to cause a lot of ruckus when together, and there was no Strum to protect poor Calvin should things get too heavy. If he just sat there, there was no way he could get himself in trouble or say anything to anger either of them. Yes, stillness and silence was certainly the best course of action he could take.
There was that and the fact that her comment upset him just a little. Whether it was a joke or not, he was not at all happy about the assumptions she made simply because he was acting upon his baser instinct. Like she didn’t feel the physical pull towards others as he did. What made her so high and mighty?

While his human senses could not detect the wolf as she made her way further into the house, he did not need special powers to hear the creak of the floorboards beneath her feet on her way down the hall and toward his bedroom door. Well, who else would she be there to visit? Jess and Strum were out, and even if they were there Lana could not fool Cyprus if she told him she wasn’t there for him. Why else would she visit as often as she did? He knew she got a sort of sick satisfaction out of tormenting him.
He didn’t mind her company that much, though. When she wasn’t being a jerk, she could actually be a pretty cool girl to hang around. You know, for a fleabag. Being too nice to her might encourage her to play nicer, but Cyprus wasn’t sure he wanted that. She offered a refreshing break from the peace and quiet he so thoroughly enjoyed. As odd as it was, he liked that. Plus, you know, she was the only person outside of his brother and Jess that Cyprus actually spent any significant amount of time with.
“What do you want?” he said a bit harsher than he might have meant as Lana’s figure came to stand in the doorway. Obviously she wanted his company, but he was going to make the girl work for it. He didn’t bother to move from where he sat. She wasn’t going to go anywhere any time soon, so he might as well be comfortable. However, he did lift the drawing pad from the bedside table and place it in the top most drawer. As long as he was there to guard it, none of its contents would be going anywhere.
Her comment earned a laugh from Cyprus. It made no sense, but he could tell she was a bit annoyed. “Why?” he asked, “Jealous?” Stretching out his legs, he bumped Calvin unintentionally with the one closest to the boy. Ignoring the contact, he laced his fingers together, resting them on the back of his head as he leaned back against the wall behind him. “You know, there’s more than enough of me to go around,” he joked.

‘Hi Lana’. She’d literally made fun of them the moment she had walked in and the kid still just said hi. Why did it bother her so much? Lana had talked to Natalya about him and she’d just laughed and said it was probably because she was surrounded by dominant people so much it just felt odd to be around a submissive. While she’d understood most of what she’d been told, it didn’t stop her from feeling irritated about how passive the boy could be, how sensitive he was to just about everything even though he’d never gotten hurt in this house and had no reason to be jumpy around any of them. Why couldn’t the boy just stand up for himself when he was feeling nervous instead of clinging to someone?
It was easy to brush off considering she was able to glare at Cyprus as soon as he responded. He already sounded irritated she was here, which made her want to give him the finger and just leave if he really didn’t want her around that badly. However he had the nerve to call her jealous and she just rolled her eyes. “Oh yes,so jealous I could puke.” She replied, the sentence oozing in sarcasm and possibly the smallest hint of actual hurt feelings. So what if she was jealous? Calvin could whine and snuggle with whoever he wanted but if she wanted to be close to someone they always acted like it was odd.
Rolling her eyes she shifted the bag on her shoulder, “Nate got me this new thing to play and said it would probably be more fun if others played it with me. Some new console with games, considering you guys probably know more of them than I do I figured you might want to try it.” That and everyone else she knew was a bit older and probably not available to sit around and introduce her to video games. When the werewolf had given her the wrapped box and told her the system and games now belonged to her, it had taken Lana hours to understand it. No one had ever really given her a present before, and this was an odd gift from her. If anything she’d expected some sort of survival equipment, or more clothes, but Nate had said sometimes Lana would need to just play a game to feel better.
She hadn’t told her who to play with, Lana had made that up to make sure the two thought she’d been told to come over not that she had any desire to be alone with either of them. Technically she had come in the hopes that Jess would be home to provide a welcoming hug, but with no idea how to hook up her new system she couldn’t even learn it on her own. Nate leaving for work the same night had only reassured that she would have to go ask someone to help her. Part of her thought her sponsor had done this on purpose to make sure the girl would have to ask for help from those around her, something she did not have an easy time with.

When Lana admitted (sarcastically) to being jealous, Cyprus let a laugh rise from his chest as he got off the bed and stood before her. “Oh, now I see,” he said, crossing his arms and looking her over as if seeing her for the first time. With a nod, he continued to explain his thoughts. “I figured that’s what it was,” he said, thumbing a finger against his chin like he had just come to an important conclusion.
Before she got the overwhelming urge to beat him for being vague, Cyprus spit out his thought and proved without a doubt that he only had interest in teasing that afternoon. “You girls always have so much trouble holding down your emotions. It’s saddening, really.” Should she take enough offense to his words to react violently, there was really nothing Cy could do about it. Of course, he was certain it was absolutely worth it. She just made it so much fun to tease her. If she was less enthusiastic in her reaction – regardless of the positive or negative alignment it held – he might have been more inclined to back off. Maybe.
She went on to explain what was in her pack. Cyprus uncrossed his arms and looked to the bag before looking back to the lady wolf. “Sooooo~” he cooed, “What you’re saying is you came over because you wanted to play with me?” Obviously. Who else would she have come to see? It wasn’t as if she adored Jess or idolized Strum. Nope. It was definitely him she came for. He knew it. And he couldn’t exactly blame her. No matter what she said, he knew she had to have just as much fun teasing him as he had doing it to her. That, and she was kind of his only friend. He was sure the situation was the same for her. Where else did a runaway street rat make friends?
Raising a brow at her, he decided it was best to lay it on thick if he was going to get beaten for it anyway. Leaning in close, he whispered loudly for dramatic effect. “You missed me, didn’t you, Lana?” Looking to Calvin, he added, “It’s okay if you admit it. I promise I won’t tell.” As if all her worries would be completely absolved by his assurance, he winked at her to seal the joke and laughed a bit at just how funny he was.

His eyes widened when Cyprus kicked him, patiently waiting for the other man to acknowledge it. Obviously, he never did and eventually Cal gave up hope and hopped off the bed to stand closer to the door. He made his best effort not to stand too close to Lana, though. It was obvious how she felt towards him, and that fact only made him want to cower at her feet in hopes of finding some way to appease the angry wolf. It boggled his mind as to what exactly it was he had done in the first place, but his gut told him to just not question it. It didn’t really matter why she despised him as much as it mattered that she did at all.
From his edge of the room, Calvin watched Cyprus taunt Lana. He wondered how it was the human felt so calm while teasing something so dangerous. Did he have no sense of self-preservation, or was it merely a matter of he had more of a backbone than Cal did? The pup was willing to bet it was more the second one, even though admitting it made he had to take a major blow to any ego he might have thought to develop.
Cyprus promised not to tell anyone Lana had come to see him, and since he looked to Calvin the wolf only assumed he meant to include the wolf in his discussion. “Me, neither!” he piped up, quieting down once more when he realized he probably shouldn’t be teasing her. What if it made her angry? What if she was all ready angry and he just made it worse? Cyprus wasn’t exactly being nice to her, after all. Frowning, he silently berated himself for thinking it was okay to say something so stupid. No wonder everyone was so annoyed when he was around – or at the very least, maybe that was why he annoyed Lana so.
“Do you want to take it to the living room?” Calvin suggested, pointing toward the bag and hoping to change the subject and redirect her emotions towards something that wasn’t himself. “I could help you set it up,” his eyes fell to the floor as the offer spilled from his lips, “uh—if you want, that is.” In hopes of finding some support, he looked back up to Cyprus seeing that the man only focused on amusing himself by continuing to taunt Lana.

Being so full of yourself had to be exhausting, she honestly wasn’t sure how the boy managed it every single day yet he did. Then he was rambling about girls not being able to hold down their emotions and she was confused what he meant by it. She hadn’t expressed any emotion past nausea and boredom, yet here he was, acting as if he had a reason to feel pity for her. Narrowing her eyes at him as he cooed at her, she wasn’t sure she liked the way he said the word play. Why was he making it seem like she was so needy for his attention? Clearly he’d spent too much time around Calvin and seemed to think she would be fawning over him in the same manner. As he made his way over and got a little too close, she found herself leaning away and looking at him as if he had completely lost his mind. Even Calvin had slipped off the bed and into the corner as if expecting a war to break out, and part of him was smart for doing so. When he piped up that he wouldn’t tell anyone either she shot him a deadly glare before shoving Cyprus away back on the bed. “I told Nate this was a stupid idea, can’t really miss someone I’d much rather eat.” Ready to accept defeat since the boys seemed intent to do nothing but tease her, she was ready to turn and leave when Calvin apparently decided to focus on why she’d come here in the first place.
Not that she would admit it but she was relieved when he offered to help with it, it gave her a reason to get away from Cyprus and his constant teasing that was causing her to question her own emotions and that was just not an enjoyable time for her. Turning to other wolf she grabbed his hand to drag him out of the room. “Great idea.” She reassured, not wanting the poor thing to think she was dragging him off to murder him. He had offered to help and that apparently was the whole point of Nate getting her this stupid thing in the first place. Ignoring Cyprus as they left she released the boys hand as they got to the living room; as if he might change his mind in route and try to flee, and proceeded to open her bag and dump it’s contents out on the floor. “All yours kid.” She gestured, the closest she could get to tell him she had absolutely no idea where to start. The power cord was easy, it was all the other dumb cables that were suppose to go into the t.v that had her stumped.

His laughter continued as Calvin butted in to keep the joke going. “See?” he said, nodding toward the younger wolf. “Your secret’s safe here. We all know you want me.” Her shoving him only served to reignite his laughter. “Ow!” he exclaimed in mock pain as he was forced back onto the bed. “You should be more careful! I’m delicate.” If she really wanted to hurt him, he’d know it. As long as he continued to restrain herself, he would continue to mock her.
Lana finally got sick of Cyprus and pulled Calvin out of the room. Kissass, he thought at the younger man.
Alone again, his eyes drifted to the drawing pad on his nightstand. For a moment he considered getting back to what he’d been doing before the canines had interrupted him.
Even when Calvin finally went back home, Cyprus would still have to deal with Lana. He wouldn’t get quiet time except on the rare occasion when - for whatever reason - she wasn’t at Strum’s house. She came around often enough that if she didn’t show up, he might be worried for her well-being. Either that, or he seriously messed up and she was too pissed off to see his face.
Honestly, he didn’t mind her coming around as much as he made it seem.
The idea of bothering Lana while she was in the home was too good to pass up. Mind made up, he got up off the bed. and moved through the rooms until he found the wolves in the sitting room. Calvin was down hooking things to the tv while Lana stood around looking like she didn’t know what she was doing. Not that Cyprus expected she did.
Cyprus scoffed loud when he entered the room. “Typical,” he said as he set eyes on her. “Letting a man do all the work.” He nudged her, his eyes on Calvin. “Be honest,” he said, his voice hushed - but he knew both of them would hear him just fine. “You just like watching him work.” He laughed when Calvin his his head. “Would you watch so intently if it were me down there? Because that can be arranged.”

The tug on his hand took the teen by surprise, but he didn’t fight her. Lana seemed enthusiastic to take him up on his offer. “Really?” he asked, not sure he believed she really thought his idea was good. He let himself be led out either way, because at least she wasn’t being mean to him. As long as she played nice, Calvin would make an effort to do the same. Although, he wasn’t exactly known for being anything but nice.
His wolf danced beneath his skin. The contact between himself and Cyprus had been enough to sate the beast within him, but touching another wolf set his skin on fire in the most pleasant way he could have ever imagined. From the times Jess had hugged him, Calvin knew why wolves craved affection from other wolves. The feeling - not just on his skin, but beneath it - was intoxicating. And Lana being so much closer to himself in power than any other wolf he’d met before, her power didn’t suffocate him. It was just there, and it was comforting.
By the time they finally made it into the sitting room and she released him, his cheeks were tinted red.
Lana dumped her console and accessories on the floor. “Okay,” he said with a nod. Then he got down and started pulling it out of the box before he moved in front of the tv. He pushed away the whine the wolf in his head let out. It begged for attention, but even Calvin knew when too much was just that. Instead he got to work hooking up the game console for Lana.
Cyprus eventually showed up, resuming teasing the girl. This time he pulled Calvin into it. The words reached his ears and the wolf hit his head on the entertainment center. A heat rushed to his face when he blushed again. He bit his lip to fight off the exclamation of pain.
Moving out from behind the tv, he turn it and the console on. Adjusting the channel, he moved over to Lana. “Here.” He handed her one of the controllers. “It should work now.” At least he was good for something, even if it wasn’t an important something.

Lana tried to ignored the heat between her and the other wolf. Nate and Jess both had warned her that physical contact with other wolves was going to be something she probably would benefit from and enjoy, she just forgot that something as small as holding hands would do the trick. Even the boy seemed to notice but thankfully said nothing, apparently hanging out with the human all day wasn’t going to be enough to satisfy the attention his wolf desired. For a moment she felt bad, it wasn’t his fault she was so anti-social, she’d try to at least give him hugs more often when he was around to make up for how vicious her mouth tended to be.
As she was about to try and say something nice Cyprus returned and had to ruin the attempt, instead she scowled and rolled her eyes. He certainly seemed to be hell bent on convincing them that she wanted him, yet the only other excuse for her staring was because she had wanted to learn how to set the damn thing up herself so she’d never have to ask for help again. Not about to admit that to him, she did the only thing she could think of and shoved him towards the couch. “I don’t want you to break my new system, at least Calvin has a brain in his skull to use.”
Turning her attention back to the other wolf she took the controller but bit her lower lip as she glanced at the screen as it loaded. Still, no idea what she should do with the damn thing, she grabbed the stack of games Nate had grabbed with it and shoved them into Cy’s chest, “Here, if you want to make yourself useful you can pick out the game.” Leaving him to decide, since she had zero ideas on what any of the games were about, she made herself comfortable on the couch, even being nice and sitting in the middle before patting the empty seat next to her as an invitation for Calvin to sit next to her. Being between the two of them would make it much easier to hit Cy without Calvin being in the crossfire.
