Very rarely was Gabriel ever without one of his siblings. Well, when he was with Neriah or Raphael. Michael had become exceptionally adept at ditching his baby brother. As quick as Gabriel was, he’d never be able to keep up with Michael. Coupling that with how much Mikey hated being babysat--even if it was for his own good--and it meant a good chunk of Gabe’s time with his eldest brother was actually spent looking for him.
During one of his many slips just that week, Gabriel was on a search for Michael when a ruffled looking angel appeared in front of him.
Tabris. He wasn’t one of Gabe’s. Tabris was a fighter--another of Neriah’s soldiers. That meant he answered to the Guardian of the Holy Prison. Most angels who didn’t answer directly to Gabriel didn’t interact with him. Something about him made him intimidating to them, so for one to seek him out personally was worrying.
“Ever’s in trouble,” the angel said, trying desperately to catch his breath while still delivering his message. “A band of demons got the jump on us. I shouldn’t have left her--” His eyes fell to the floor, hiding from the archangel. “But if I’d stayed--” He swallowed. “Gabriel, please?”
The archangel nodded, motioning for Tabris to lead the way. He couldn’t leave an angel in danger, especially if demons were involved. The nasty things had gotten much more agitated lately--more bold. It made Gabriel nervous, even if he’d never admit that out loud.
Ever was surrounded by demons. Gabe didn’t take the time to count exactly how many; he knew he needed to act if he was going to protect her.
Spreading his wings wide, he descended as quickly as he could. He brought his blade down on the demon, splitting it in two. The others scattered, disappearing quickly before they could be dealt with. Gabe had no complaint, because that meant less trouble for him. It also meant they could go back to whoever they answered to and tell them one of the archangels was fighting this battle. Maybe it would make them think twice as attacking soldiers.
He dropped his sword down at his feet. He couldn’t put it away without cleaning the mess from the blade without ruining it, but he had more important things to tend to. Kneeling down, he ran a hand over the injured angel’s cheek. Her skin had been corrupted by whatever poison the demons had brought with them. Lust demons were wonderful for poisons.
“Gabriel!” the angel gasped. “I’m sorry. I didn’t--” Tears poured from the angel, her cheeks reddened from both her crying and her embarrassment.
Another gentle touch and her corrupted cheek was healed right up.
She laid her hand over his. “Thank you.” She stretched her wings, wincing when one of them didn’t fold out properly.
Tabris came down beside them, kneeling with Gabriel. He tucked his arms under Ever’s, helping her to her feet. “Thank you, Gabriel,” he said before disappearing with his partner. She’d be okay.
Once alone, the archangel leaned back to lift his sword with the intention of cleaning it. When his hand met the ground without an resistance, he turned to look where he’d left his weapon. It wasn’t where he’d left it. His eyes flew wide and he jumped to his feet, hoping against reason that he’d just misremembered where he laid his sword. Oh no.
After tearing apart the local area, his heart sank and he accepted the reality of the situation.
If his sword was gone, that meant someone else had it. Bound weapons didn’t just disappear on their own. He needed to find it, and he needed to find it now. Who knew what sort of mischief someone could get up to with an angel’s blade, especially Gabriel’s.
~Timeskip~ This week his time belonged to Raphael, the Archangel of Love and Restraint. Gabriel loved all his siblings equally, but each of them brought something special to his life that he couldn’t get anywhere else. Raphael’s special quality was that he could understand Gabe best without anything needing to be said. He was the easiest to talk to, because the Protector never needed to actually talk at all.
He prepared himself to guard his understanding brother. On his way out the door, he grabbed his substitute blade. This one wasn’t tied to his essence in the same way his blade was. It would have to do, but Gabe wished he hadn’t lost the real thing.
A pale blue light flashed over the sword, engulfing it and disappearing with it. It would be tucked somewhere safe, the same place Gabriel kept his sword. At least he had something for the moment. A backup was better than nothing at all.
It took a bit of searching, but Gabe finally found his brother. He was hanging around in the most populated area of the Celestial City: the City Square. Gabriel felt silly for not thinking of that first. Raphael loved watching others, and it made sense for him to be found hanging around where a large amount of body traffic occurred.
With a flutter, his wings folded behind his back and then disappeared into the nether. They were there, but limiting their visibility he felt made him look less intimidating. Though his brother wasn’t intimidated by the youngest archangel, Gabriel knew his appearance made others uneasy. He had a commanding presence. While that was a good thing when he had work to do, it also made him feel a bit guilty.
He laid a hand on his brother’s shoulder to let him know he was there. As always Gabriel said nothing. Thankfully, he never needed to with Raphael.

As always, it was a beautiful day in Heaven and the best place to take it all in? Celestial City Square.
It was here that one could watch all the Angels as they prepared to go about their day. Some walked, some ran and some flew. Some were patient and slow, others were rushed and in a hurry! Some carried things, others bore no burden. Most had smiles, though there were a few scowls here and there.
Regardless of what they were doing, where they were going or how they were getting there, they were all beautiful, each and everyone of them and there was very little that Raphael liked more than to be among them, watching and listening.
The Archangel sat on a bench, hands folded lightly in his lap, a blissful smile on his face. He caught snatches of conversation here and there and returned every greeting sent his way with a cheerful grin and a wave. He adored these people and wished each of them every happiness.
Standing, Raphael lightly smoothed out the folds in his cream coloured coat and carefully lifted a tiny little fluff (a feather from someone) from the grey lace collar. He began a slow, leisurely walk along the edge of the square, observing everyone with warm grey eyes.
When the touch to his shoulder came, the archangel turned around, a bright smile lighting up his features.
"Gabriel!" He greeted warmly, wrapping his arms about his brother and hugging him tightly, cheek pressed against his chest. Drawing back, he reached up with gentle hands and pulled Gabriel's face down, just enough to him to press a tender kiss to his cheek. "Good morning!"
A cheerful laugh bubbled out of Raphael as he looked his younger brother up and down. With as much care as one would take handling a bird, he tugged and pulled at the Guardians clothing; smoothing out creases and rumples in the fabric. Once satisfied he stepped back and clapped his hands together with another bubbly laugh.
"I'm going down to Earth today! There's going to be a beautiful wedding in Spain!" The Archangel exclaimed, "Oh I can't wait!" Raphael laughed again and reached out to take one of Gabriel's hands. "I thought I'd wait for you! It's going to be wonderful!"
Leading the way, Raphael excitedly told his younger brother all about the marriage customs in Spain and about the flowers and the vows and everything Gabriel could ever possibly want to know about Spanish weddings.
It was a very simple affair.
One that Raphael watched in blissful silence. He kissed the tips of his fingers when the bride and groom kissed at the alter and gently blew his blessing towards them. Every mortal present could feel the love and joy in that moment, sharing it with each other.
As the wedding guests drew away from makeshift outdoor altar and to the gardens close by for the party, Raphael fluttered over to the arch the bride and groom has spoken their vows for one another underneath. Delicately he touched the altar with a profound reverence.
"I hope they will be happy." He said to Gabriel, "It was a wonderful ceremony."
