What do guys like to do in an SL? Answer with actual answers, not tips or anything. Just tell me what you like to do. |

I don't like storylines in general now. What usually tends to happen is they drag out too long until they're forgotten about and feel boring, or the actual point may become diluted because of other things happening. The usual storyline made by a person lasts how long? Month? 2 months? More? People seem to always want to have some spanning arc, when what could be just as entertaining is a short n' sweet thing. Something that can start and actually end in a single night or day. Bigger isn't always better. Something so that you can actually do something with a character, do a little expansion, then finish and move on. But noooooooooooooooooooo. The talking can last just too long. The fights just don't seem to end. No, they just don't. I remember doing a nice little storyline with Aceofhicks in UEAW. Was just a single battle that lasted like 1 day. How long has the SL between Rain, Disayle, and yourself been going on, hmm? If I were in your shoes, I'd be bored as hell right now, since the only real thing being done is talking after the one battle. |

I disagree with Red. Talking has its uses, though it is occasionally irritating when things get a little long-winded. You've got to take that with a grain of salt, though, because dialogue is still an important part of every story. I like having an even balance of character development, backstory, and plot movement in my SL's, though romance, if applicable, can also be an important factor. It's also good when people throw in twists, especially the kinds of twists you aren't expecting. Some character deaths are good, but only if they died well. Bleah. I'm having trouble properly crystallizing my thoughts. I'll add more...sometime. |

....I... uh.... I like.... romance.... and stuff.... uh... I can get kinda.... graphic.... with it. I try to form relationships between my characters. Other than that, I like to do land battles- but only if they're scripted (ie, I control whether they win or lose. 'cause there isn't anything I hate more than an over-zealous opponent who kills off the main villian of my storyline by dropping a nuke on them.) I hate the war part of this game. I would prefer it if we just did battles by consent. As long as I can shape it into a story, I can work with it. Edited by Lelouch vi Britannia, Nov 14 2010, 08:20 PM.

I don't play many RP's, but I can safely say I pretty much have the same opinion as Disayle and Lelouch's second point. (I'm not one for graphic stuff, though.) |

I like the more symbolic and philosophical side, meaning that every person represents a single trait or aspect, and the villain is the opposite. The clash is the representation of the battle between the two. It's a lot of fun making stories that show that kind of battle taking on, at least when the reader can actually SEE the second side to it, see the meaning of the story. Other than that, I usually like twists and turns, not too many surprises, but enough to keep one's attention fixated on the story trying to get what just happened in that one moment not through confusion of how it was worded, more like why that had happened that way and what will happen because of it. I also like detail, to a point, and long-winded talks can get annoying sometimes, it's best to put more actions of a character into a post, and have the second person respond to each action up to the point the first one stopped, that way you get more done in a post, but the problem is, you need a leader and a responder to do that, which no one is usually sure which is which in my opinion anyway. I also appreciate the power of the characters, but retaining a balance. If the protagonist is powerful, then the antagonists should balance it by being more numerous or equally as powerful, or even more so, and make it a story where the protagonists tries to find a way to beat the odds. I could go on forever here.... edit: Generally, I agree with Red on some aspects, but like Disayle said, dialogue is equally important and should not be disregarded. I also agree with Nameless aside from the graphic part.... Relationships give more of an insight into other aspects of the characters, a very useful tool. Which reminds me, I like it when you can relate to the protagonist in a way, and then follow that link, see what he sees, and know what he might do next, but I also still like surprises, having that character suddenly do something else, and force the reader to rethink what he thought that person was like. edit 2: I appreciate the more mental aspects to a story, but when you're so descriptive in the detail of the battle, but I'm not too much of one to speak in that regard, I don't post a too lot of detail. It's best to find a balance in how much description a LEAF needs. It shouldn't be 5 paragraphs to describe a single leaf of one tree, and then move onto the next leaf of another different tree. It's perfect when you add just enough to get the point across, because then you're not bored as crap, but instead you can see it happening before you at a moderate pace. It's great that way! There's also the choice of characters. A good choice in my opinion is when there is a relationship between the enemy and the ally, especially when they're supposedly 'opposites'. It's either that or make the enemy not so much 'evil' but something else. Make the reader confused as to what he is, and unable to label the character that well, but not too much so that they lose interest. Edited by Harbinger, Nov 14 2010, 08:36 PM.

...I'm never TOO graphic. I don't ever directly write that my characters are gonna.... you know, do it. It's more... uh... sexual perversion.... but I stray from going too deep into naughty stuff. I actually prefer playing the villain. You could probably see that from all the AI I have: The Viral Crusade, the Brotherhood of Makuta, the League of Villains, Britannia, Organization XIII........... I probably have a character to play the villain in anyone's storyline. Edited by Lelouch vi Britannia, Nov 14 2010, 08:42 PM.

I haven't done a lot of successful SLs, but I like it to be more of an overarching story, with each one tying into the other. That wua FW feels more like a RPG than a cycle of researching, attacking, and defending |
