My birthday is in two weeks, and I'm sick of my piece of shit computer.... so I'm looking to kick it up several notches. I've got a file attached to this post, listing all the combinations of processors and motherboards that I can afford. Once I pick one of them, I'll figure out what else to improve on my own. The current specs are as follows: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 Processor (1.60 ghz per core) ATI Radeon 4350 HD Graphics Card 2 gigabytes DDR2 RAM Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 2 |

One more question, just for my own curiosity: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Intel%26%23174%3B+-+Media+Series+Micro+ATX+Motherboard+1066/1333MHz+%28Socket+1155%29/2384169.p?id=1218324434385&skuId=2384169&st=Media%20Series%20MIcro%20ATX&cp=1&lp=1 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Intel%26%23174%3B+-+Media+Series+Micro+ATX+Motherboard+1066/1333MHz+%28Socket+1155%29/2384187.p?id=1218324438496&skuId=2384187&st=Media%20Series%20MIcro%20ATX&cp=1&lp=2 What are the differences between these two motherboards? I can see none, other than once's about $10 cheaper. And how do they compare to this one, which sounds very high-techy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Intel%26%23174%3B+-+Media+Series+Micro+ATX+Motherboard+1066/1333MHz+(Socket+1155)/2384187.p?id=1218324438496&skuId=2384187&st=Media%20Series%20MIcro%20ATX&cp=1&lp=2 |

If you are not planning on overclocking I'd recommend building an AMD computer. They main 2 differences between AMD and Intel are that AMD is cheaper for the same amount of power but Intel is can be overclocked more then AMD because it runs a little cooler. You can get a six core AMD processor for much cheaper then the six core intel i7 processor. This means you can build a better computer for the same price.

I'm curious about how multi-core processors work.... how fast does each core work? Is it like 3.4 ghz divided by four, or does each core work at 3.4 ghz? |

Each core works like its own mini processor. The general rule of thumb is the more cores the better. If I remember correctly each core is at the same clock speed as the total processor. the max that is for sale right now is six however Intels six core processor is 1000 dollars which places it well out of budget however AMD has a similar processor for less then 200. Intels core is so expensive because with proper cooling you can overclock it to around 6 ghz which I don't believe is possible with AMDs. amd six core processor intel 6 core

Mmm... well... I'm not sure how that is going to help me with Oblivion's seeming inability to cope with multiple processors... And how will I be sure that all the components I am getting are going to fit into the tower I already have? I am hoping to just recycle the tower I am currently using....
