When I bought my Fugitive 2 it had a Vauxhall Astra/Cavalier steering rack fitted.

Having never driven the car before the rebuild I left it in place. Unfortunately it does not do the job. The steering is hyper sensitive in the straight ahead position, it has bump steer and anti-Ackerman geometry so I intend to re-fit the OEM steering box and tie rods.

I have had a look at a few photos of other completed Fugitives and noticed that some, but not all, builders have dispensed with the steering damper.

What are the opinions on the merits of the steering damper on a light car like the Fugitive?

Thanks.
