If College doesn't pan out as planned don't worry too much since the economy will be as such that even a 6th grade drop out should be able to get a decent job when Palin becomes President around your likely graduation year.

Can you make a thread where we convince you to give up on life? I'll respond properly in there.

You can just do that in this thread

Hehe I'm just kidding. You know you're awesome in my book. :D

As for your situation, I feel like so many people run into clusterfucks like these during finals, in terms of tests and turning in late work, etc. I say just bite the bullet and put all your effort into your classes over the next few days. There's nothing better you can do right now. Once you see how it turns out, think of your next step.

Mikester

You can do it. It takes awhile to adjust to college, but once you get through this semester, you'll feel so much better.

But dont take 6 classes at once again. That's nuts.

I didn't *want* to but that's just what I got put in when I went to an adviser. Next semester I'm only taking 4 classes and my goal is to get an A in every class just to balance out this semester...

thnx!

Doesn't everyone fail their first semester of college? Get over it and move onto the second. As panicked as you are you won't make the same mistakes twice.

I told you, failing at school doesn't mean failing at life.

That's if you're not like Denise or Shambo.

You'll be fine. It takes a semester to get acclimated like others have said. It's a jump from high school to college and sometimes it takes a while. Don't worry about it.

Besides, doing well at college is much more rewarding than doing well at ORGs anyway.

I was failing like everything my first semester. Stick with it. It gets easier.

Did you start passing things? Is your life on the right track or are you useless like me, too?

I switched majors after two years of hating my field and now I have a 3.3 or something nice and lovely like that. :hee

I would certainly ask your professor if you can make up the first part! And if there's still some work/exams left in your other classes, be sure to study for those and complete the assignments asap.

If you wanted to retake classes you didn't do well in, you could take those over the summer? Even though it's the summer, 3 classes doesn't seem like too much and I bet you could pull it off!

Don't be too stressed about it Mikester, you can retake them and do great in your 2nd semester. It's probably not good "advice" but I have my first class at 8am and then my next class is at 12pm (on Monday/Wednesdays) and then on Tuesdays/Thursdays my other class is at 2pm...so with all that time waiting for the next class at school, it's always been a good time to spend all that free time studying.

Nope. ^_^

I know a lot of people who are getting their asses kicked by the workload, though. You'll be fine as long as you don't let it continue. Work harder next semester.

At risk of contributing to the broken record, I bombed my first semester at college too. I didn't put forth any effort, didn't go to class, didn't study, and it came back to bite me in the ass.

But like everyone's said, it happens. You can rebound. I've picked up my GPA and have learned how to avoid class, studying, and effort without failing. Every person has to learn how to handle it individually, but it happens to tons of people. You'll be okay, just like most of them were.

And end-of-semester stress is going to be a constant throughout college. Once finals creep up, everyone goes into freak-out mode. It's okay if you join in. The worry is normal, but ultimately, it always ends up working out.

However, when it comes to ORGs, you're screwed. :P

Mikester, where is your parents?

Anyway, keep pushing and pushing. Some time in your life, you're going to fail and this experience will just hone you in life and when you fail again, you'll get used to it and you will not feel like giving up on life anymore.

My parents are here but I'll feel like such a :loser if I'm still living with them by the time I'm like 21.

Thanks for the advice! I hope you're right, but I also hope I don't fail anymore after this

Yeah that's the attitude.

Well, about the parents thingy, I think it is their responsibility to pay for your tuition fees and after you graduate, you still need them. I'm sorry but that's just the fact. It's up to you though if you want to live from your own labor.

By the way, it doesn't mean that if you fail at school, you fail at life too. :shrug

Yeah I'm sorry not all of us have rich parents that can just pull money out of their ass to pay for all of college.

Mikester, don't give up! <3

But if you fail, that is always on your records right? I'm just concerned that even if I do well in the next few semesters the failing grades will be on my records forever and ever and then I'll never get into another college and then I'll never get a good job and be rich like I was supposed to be. :(

It probably depends on the school--but I believe the policy where I'm at is that the original grade remains on your transcript but isn't factored into your GPA. I can ask somebody to verify (although as I said, it probably varies).

6 classes is doable but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a first semester. Just make sure you don't screw yourself by taking too few credits and have it catch up with you at the end. One bad semester is pretty insignificant so yeah, don't go hanging a noose or anything. It'd really bum your roommate out.

Dude, this is normal. College is for big boys...By making the first semesters harder, they filter out the wussies. Don't let yourself become one and just do great on that essay. If that fails too, then you can just drop out for a year, work a bit, and then go back to college... :shrug

Here's something to motivate you:

I rock at college. I got pretty much straight As while taking 18+ credits for my first three years and now I'm relaxing like a boss.

Don't you want to be better than me? I know you do.
