I go to a really small school because I like it better than bigger schools.  :shrug  My professors all  know my name, and they are not bullshit TA's.

I *hate* it when my professors know my name. I prefer to be anonymous. That said, my school is probably mid-sized. The professors in my major know my name, which most of the time I don't mind since I need their adviice, but when a professor who has no need to know my name learns my name I get pissed off. Like I said, I prefer anonymity. Which makes me wonder why I didn't choose a different username for this website. I guess I am just not creative.

Why? If they know your name, then there is a much better chance that they genuinely give some kind of a shit about you and what you're learning.

My school has an attendance policy, which I hated at the beginning, but it actually makes me go to class and get my shit together. I have friends at bigger schools who only went to some classes a total of four our five times last semester yet still got A's. That's great and all, but I don't see the point if you're not learning anything.

I totally see what you are saying. Develop a personal relationship with the professor and guaranteed A. I have done that a couple of times to success. Most of the time, however, I really don't care to. idk it is probably psychological but a lot of the time I *want* to be a statistic that squeezes by... makes my social life easier. I can't really explain it by I have done both and neither the past 4 years.... and now that I'm a second semester senior I don't really go to class at all lol. Stay in school kids.

I'm the opposite. If a teacher knows my name and gives a shit about me and my SPECIFIC education that makes for awesomeness.

It DID weird me out that there were two teachers in my highschool who I NEVER HAD who would say hi to me in the hallways though :shifty

Everyone in high school knows the homecoming king, I got used to it after awhile though.

omg lol.

I have no idea about my homecoming whatever. I worked the night of Junior Prom and Senior Ball. THANK GOD. I'm in contact with a total of one person from high school... and I had a graduating class of over 500. Frankly I was just wayyyy too smart and talented and too good looking for that high school.

But anyway what pissed me off about high school (and it PERSISTS in college since we live in a cold city with secret college tunnels) is how goddamn slow people walk in the halls. I have fucking places to be.... could you move the fuck along?

I was just informed the Miami University being discussed in this thread is one located in Ohio, not in south Florida. Carry on. :lbf

context clues ftw

I greatly detest you PT.

I think bigger schools are AWESOME only for the fact that you encounter greater diversity and more opportunities. However, I think it's better suited for Grad School. I imagine if you go to a bigger school, it's easier to get overwhelmed with overall college life stress. Going out into the real world should be gradual, and I like that I chose a mid-size school.

There's certain people I see everyday in my routine, but I generally see new people everyday which is refreshing. ironically, I've seen in some Psych studies that people tend to feel more isolated in larger populations. Weird huh?

Also, I just [officially] declared myself a Biochemistry major with a Nutrition minor (woot woot) and like someone else said, everyone in the Chem department knows me by name. The other course which are generally slightly larger and more pointed towards liberal education do not. Other than my Poli-Sci class, where I have to snap far left loons in half on a daily basis, my other teachers don't know me well. Really, it's just a matter of effort on your part if you want a connection with your prof.

And ThaiSu, idk what classes you're taking (assuming liberal arts and intro) but in upper level classes, they don't take attendance. My Ochem Lab Lecture has like only 20 people in it, and if you miss class, you miss work. There is no such thing as missing class and it not having a negative effect on your grade.

They're mostly 100 level classes, but I'm pretty sure my school takes attendance for all four years. I have one professor who doesn't care at all, but I think it's more of a school policy than anything else. The teachers that do take attendance drop peoples' grades down for every missed class over what is allowed.

Science classes are different, though, because they have class 4 or 5 days a week rather than 2 or 3 days. Most of those profs don't care, but I'm not affected because I hate physical sciences and am not majoring in them.

Yeah lol my school is largely an engineering school so we non-engeneering kids are considered the "short bus kids." But to my friends' credit their hard work has paid off and they all have job offers while I do not (I should-- my Microsoft Access skills in particular are unrivaled-- but I was gypped (I mean Roma People'd)..... do not want to elaborate but I excelled at my job and would be employed had it not been for the Bush Recession.)

Please tell me you're not really going to let "us" dictate your decision as to where to go? If I had to do it all over again, I'd go to the University of California - Berkeley. But that's just me.

Goohst, I think I'll probably end up at Miami. We could hang out and cheat on ORG's in stuff. You know, fun college stuff.

No seriously. It's on my list of five colleges that I've had since 6th grade. Go there! Ohio sucks, but whatever.
