For those of you who have hosted your own game (not just co-hosted) and you've also played (everyone duh) - which do you prefer?

I honestly would have to say hosting. There is no real worry that you have to get voted out. You don't have to lie to people, and you don't have to worry about every single post, every single action you do. I mean, to some extent you do. But not like playing.

I just find playing is extremely stressful.

So - which do you prefer?

Just to extrapolate I chose hosting because it allows me to exercise my creativity a lot more than playing. It's less of a time commitment. It's not as stressful. And it's just a fascinating thing watch a game unfold from behind the scenes.

Hosting, for sure. It's much less stressful because you don't need to worry about what's going on behind the scenes...because you KNOW what's going on behind the scenes.
These're my stats!

And this is to stretch the pages a little bit wider.

I've played a bazillion times and I do love it but I've gotten VERY tired and drained from it. I've only done hosting once. It was tough but I feel like I'd enjoy it more the second time now that I know what I'm doing.

I've hosted more games than I've played in, though I'd have to say that I like playing more. I get more of a "rush" not knowing if I'll get voted out, who will backstab me, what twists the game will take and so forth. Granted as a host all of those are in your control, but the allure really isn't there as it is with a player. Not to say I don't like hosting, but I just don't feel as invested in the game as a host as I do as a player.

They're completely different experiences. One of them is playing in a competition to try and defeat the other players. The other is trying to run an organized show for a group of people who are expecting you to lead them through their own competition. I don't really see how gaming and hosting could be comparable. The former is for your own competitive drive, the latter is for the good of the people who are playing. :shrug

Playing, and maybe that's skewed by the fact that I hosted the second worst game of alltime in EDP10, but if things don't work out as a player, you can always find your own diversions. If the players don't come together, you can't really do anything about it halfway through.

ETA: But hosting is a good experience, too. Don't get me wrong.

For those of you who have hosted your own game (not just co-hosted)

Why make this distinction???

My first 2 games hosting I was extremely paniced and worried I would accidently screw up someones permissions and give someone access to someone elses confessionals or that I would accidently post a comment about the game meant for the admin forum in the main forum or that I would unconsciously call someone by their gts/sucks id instead of their charecter. :o

I don't think I worried to much about that by my 3rd game and now I probably enjoy it more then playing just cause of the intense time draining experience playing can be.

I was actually in a game where the host fucked up my permissions and spoiled a twist. He was so embarassed! :lbf :lbf :lbf

OH AND IT WAS ON DAY ONE.

No. It was Coalition 2 and I found out there were two Spy teams and two Mafia teams.

I should have looked to see who the mafia were but I was nice instead and told kingpin. Considering I was F3, I did well enough without cheating.

Oh, I was a spy which is probably why he goofed.

Hosting has taken up... very little time for me, which is ASTOUNDING. I thought it would be even busier than playing, but... no. It's nice and calm and I always feel like I need popcorn on hand to read the boards. :lbf
