But the Watermelon in the face was EPIC! I'm still surprised it didn't knock her out tbh.

Agreed, and it was probably the most epic moment of the episode.....which I've seen played over and over on the internet and television. So in other words, the best part of the premiere happened for me a couple weeks ago.

I am excited for this season... I haven't followed any season closely since the one with Ron/Christina... I haven't given up on this season quite yet, but we'll see. I think they didn't cast too many really repulsive, annoying people which I like.

Yeah this is the first premiere I've actually watched in a few seasons but we'll see how long I last.

I do like this cast (so far) better than the last couple and I was glad Ron/Tony left because I don't think they would have added anything interesting to the show.

The mom in the mom/daughter team is a fucking robot, I don't care what anyone says. She scares the hell out of me.

I loved Katie/Rachel :<3 and um... the daughter from the father/daughter team. The gothy team were honestly beyond stupid and I don't see them lasting past 9th at the most.

Hmm... I can't remember much else so maybe it did kinda suck. But I still think it was more the leg itself than the cast.

ETA: When I reread the last line, I giggled @ "leg" and "cast". That means it's time for bed.

Yeah I LOVE the daughter in the Father-Daughter duo, she is soooooo cute. And I think the Asian Father/Son could be really funny... same with the nerds. A lot of likable people it seems like, which doesn't always make for the best television but I'd rather like a lot of people than be turned off of the show by a few really obnoxious people... That's how the past few seasons have been for me.

This does seem like the best chance for an all female winner finally... All the women teams besides the Mom-Daughter seem competent enough to do it. No clear favorite team yet, but I haven't picked a clear favorite on Survivor either, and I am still enjoying that a ton.

The daughter in the mother/daughter team IS my future wife. For realz this time. I mean it. Seriously.

Yeah, the premiere was just ok. I've said it before, but the only real way I can see myself ever getting excited for TAR again is another All-Stars. The watermelon moment of course was great but I don't remember any little fun moments (besides maybe the a capella singers' ode to Phil) that stood out. A few teams I liked and none that I dislike so far, so I don't really have any complaints about the cast. I just don't have much passion about any of them (besides my future wife obviously).

And while I liked Nick and Vicki, is it just me or have they actively begun casting dumb teams lately? Last season was filled with them, but other than a couple of fodder dumb blondes, I don't remember them really going that route (no pun intended) in the early seasons. Teams made dumb mistakes but they were overall pretty competent. The way they cast nowadays, it's less a competition of skill and more about who will be the last team to drown in puddles of their own drool and be eliminated.

So yeah, it was decent but nothing special. Of course, I also had an entertainment overload before the premiere in the form of an absolutely kickass Alice in Chains concert so TAR was never going to compare. WE DIE YOUNG WOO!

I LOVE the mother-daughter team. They are so touching and moving. I can't imagine what it would have been like to not talk to your true birth mother for over thirty years, and then suddenly meet her and the first thing you ask is, "Do you like the amazing race?" Their story moves me to tears.

And they were the best television of the whole episode. "The castle's on the map! Yay!" Best line without a doubt!

Andie and Jenna FTMFW!

Decent start to the season. I haven't watched TAR faithfully the last 3 or so seasons, because I get so annoyed that it is almost always delayed by some sporting event & I can never set my DVR to record it properly.

Even though I saw the watermelon video here last week & I was totally anticipating when it would happen --- OUCH --- seeing it on a much bigger screen in HD. I still don't know how she survived that. I would have expected a broken nose or a concussion or getting knocked unconscious. All that watermelon juice flying. Unreal.

Of course, I just FLOVE the cute little Asian daddy & son. Rooting hard for them. Team Glee are pretty funny in their glorious nerdiness.

Of course, there is the token asshole boyfriend. She better wake the frick up on this race. If he actually pops the question after only 8 mos together (and already buying a house together? What dipshits!) girl better tell him to F-off.

Mother & daughter reunited is really cool in theory. I hope they bond together & develop a close relationship. However, I was a little confused by the history of events. It sounded like they didn't talk for the first time until after applying for TAR & that they were reunited that way? Did the producers send out an ad saying they were looking for a mother/daughter who never knew each other & one of them applied & TAR did the investigative work to track down the other? If so, then that is not so cool.

Best line of the night:

"Aw, I wish I could juggle on a ball."

:lbf

This girl is going to be gold.

Weak premiere, but I'm actually into TAR this season (last season I paid attention to was TAR12 with Ron/Chris, like 'holic). So I'll give it a chance.

Ok to be interesting/unique/against the grain I'll go ahead and say I don't like the mother/daughter team. Oh yeah, I said it. Didn't get to see the last half hour but glad Ron/Tony are out. Listening to their wisps for more than one episode would have driven me to the brink of insanity. The watermelon to the face was obviously epic, and although many ppl might not see it, Nat and Kat are going to ~rock~ the other teams world. Bet on it.

The leg itself kinda sucked, but I like the cast. As others have said, they don't seem too competent, but they're generally likable. It's not often that several personalities really stand out to me in the premiere episode, so that was cool. Brooke/Claire, Chad/Stephanie, Michael/Kevin, Nick/Vicki, and Mallory are all going to be gold, I think. Four female teams is a bit much, but the producers have been wanting a girl/girl winner for years now. As long as the tasks are a little more difficult in the future, this could be a good season.

ETA: And the mother/daughter team was atrocious. They have no chemistry (understandably so, considering their relationship), no personality, and no skills. They were cast as a gimmick, but it seems unlikely they'll add anything to the show.

I didn't think the premiere was all that exciting, but I'm still excited for the season. There are a lot of other times I found very likable: Kevin/Michael, The Acapella duo, Kat/Nat, the TV hosts.

Kevin/Michael are so c00t, plz go far  I've never seen a full TAR season, but I'll be keeping up with this one.

The host getting hit with the watermelon and still doing the challenge was just..wow. I'm pretty sure I'd be knocked out after that.

The cast is absolutely awful. I only found myself rooting for the volleyball players, and I don't even know why, maybe because everyone else sucks idk. And the team with the jackass boyfriend were cool too.

The mother/daughter make me want to vomit. I want entertainment, I don't give a shit if you had an unplanned pregnancy and this is your first time in a car together. Shut the fuck up with your pathetic story and start being interesting.

I also hate Team Glee. <///3 And the team that was eliminated. And the loud mouth from the HSN ladies. And the stupid asian dad. Like if you're going to go on a tv show at least have the decency to learn coherent English so you don't force the viewers to read subtitles every time you speak. :alien So fucking annoying.

I may just not tune in for the rest of the season.

I'm like a few of you - I've drifted from TAR in recent years. We'll see if I hang on this year. I'm skeptical.

Do like Team Youtube, and I think it's funny they cast a youtube team.

This is a link to one of my fave clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR59E1nv3xY&feature=channel

I'm bummed they didn't really shine though last night. No one did, really, which is not a good sign . . .

The new express pass I think was a good idea - it looked like it was really EARNED - however it's a bummer that it went to a mactor couple - blah.

I'm glad they explained what it was every 30 seconds, because otherwise, I just would have been so confused wondering why they were trying to win the leg rather than come in last. :eyes

You were confused? The Express Pass allows the team that holds it to skip any challenge during the race. That's why teams raced to finish first, so they could get the Express Pass which allows the team that holds it to skip any challenge during the race. Since Jill and Thomas got first place in last night's episode, they got the Express Pass, which allows the team that holds it to skip any challenge during the race.
