SFGP is always everyone's best friend in games. I have actually tried to work with him before (the times when I was not trying to get him out) but he always ends up thinking I'm a huge threat to him and always votes me out. I think the problem was that simply for anyone seeing he was BFF with everyone was a threat to him.

His social game is tops. And as it was said earlier, I like that SFGP is a wonderful, caring person out of game. Total respect for him and love seeing him this high on the list.

This SO SO SO much. I love Colby, he is one of those people who can always make me smile...

Funny thing is I have only had the pleasure of playing with GP once, and we were incredibly bitter enemies! Like I hated him and he hated me  But damn so glad I have gotten to know him for the awesome person he is.

Final five already? Sheesh. Time really does fly. I guess I need to decide on my next ranking thread, huh? I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to do.

Anyway, ranking #5 is.....

Manzana

Referenced Games:

Pearl Islands (2nd)
Tocantins (10th)
Kiribati (3rd)

Oh Manzana. Delightful little Manzana. How fierce he is, how likable he is, how completely crazy he can be. He is not a GTS regular by any means, but luckily some people have had the opportunity to play with him. Though I don't have a game he's won listed above, it doesn't matter - Manzana is easily one of the best gamers I've come across. He has one of the best strategic minds, one of the best social games (sometimes being too good), and sometimes the most off-the-wall gameplay ever, which often works for him when it would fail for most others. As a host, it's a joy to watch him because he is never boring, which makes his gameplay all the more impressive.

I first played with Manzana in FML's Pearl Islands during the late fall/early winter of 2007. We started on opposite tribes, but when we merged Manz was the first person to open up to me about strategically working together. His Drake tribe had the majority, you see, and I did my best to lay low and not piss anyone off. Little by little, Manz would feed me information, and I quickly realized that he was someone I wanted to work with. He exuded intelligence and confidence, and I love teaming up with strong players, especially when I'm in the minority.

We aligned and, with DGT, moved forward as a three-person alliance. From what I heard, Manz held the power in terms of being able to flip if he wanted, but he was loyal to our group and we all made the final three together. I came in 3rd place, thank god, and we ended up with the strongest final two I've ever seen in a game. The jury debated back and forth the entire time as to who should win. Even though Manz and DGT were close allies the entire game, they went about everything in different ways. In the end, the jury favored DGT's method, but Manz came very close with three jury votes. One more, and he had it won. It didn't matter much to me that he lost; Manz proved that he was one of the best players I've seen.

When I began casting for Tocantins in early 2009, I was beyond ecstatic when Manz agreed to play. He landed on the Timbira tribe as Jerry and, sure enough, found himself involved in a couple of alliances before the first night of PMs was even over. Since I was able to read PMs, I got to see how masterful Manz truly was. He is so damn charming it makes me sick, yet it doesn't come off as disingenuous at all. Everyone loves Manz when they play with him (okay, maybe not in Kiribati, but I'll get to that). In Tocantins, everyone loved Jerry. Everyone. Not just respect. Loved. His social game was just about flawless.

Those involved knew how the game went - Timbira lost five out of six pre-merge challenges. Manz was never in danger. He had an opportunity to visit Jalapao right before the tribes merged, and that tribe too fell in love with him. However, this game was full of strategic beasts, and certain Jalapao members knew that while Manz was awesome, he needed to go because he was a major threat. At the merge, that's exactly what they did - Manz was targeted not only because they had a HII to deal with, but also because he was very popular with everyone. Two birds, one stone.

About a year went by before I watched Manz play in another game. I wanted to give him a second chance, because had his Timbira tribe actually won another challenge or two in Tocantins, I could see him winning that game. So I wanted Manz to play in Kiribati earlier this year, and boy did he deliver. No, not just delivered. He went above and beyond any other character I've ever seen. Manz made me laugh. Manz made me cry (from laughing so hard). Manz made me think. Manz made me reconsider even the basics of Survivor strategy, all from just one game. Manz created what is, in my opinion, the best ORG character of all time, and he wrote the best and funniest confessional I've ever read. You know what my favorite part of this is? None of this had to do with a schtick, which he dropped on the second night of the game.

When I asked Manz to play in Kiribati, he said that he shouldn't. He had real life stuff going on and didn't have a whole lot of time. I was disappointed to hear that, but of course Manz can't really do any wrong - he replied to me a few days later essentially saying "fuck it" and joined the cast. He wanted to be an off-the-wall character and decided to play as Matthew from Amazon, and hinted that he would have some weird Norman Bates-esque schtick where he'd talk about his mother and just generally be extremely creepy.

Sure enough, Manz freaked just about every player out on the very first night. No one was really sure what to make of him. A few saw the value he had, but most others talked immediately about creepy Matthew being one of the first to leave. He was an easy target, since Manz was in full schtick mode. For the first time ever, Manz was digging himself a hole intentionally from the very beginning. Oh god. Was I really about to lose Manz so early on?

The first big twist in Kiribati was a pick 'em in which, once twelve people were picked for two tribes, the remaining six players would automatically become a third "outcast" tribe who nobody picked. Manz was one of these six. He wasn't wanted by anyone. At this point, Manz decided enough was enough. The gloves were coming off. He got rid of his schtick immediately and was determined to get his new tribe immunity over the people who never picked any of them. Sure enough, the outcast tribe of underdogs won immunity at the first challenge, and Manz led the discussion in their tribe forum about why they weren't picked to be on one of the other two tribes. At the second challenge, Manz picked a fight with Mikester, which was rather hilarious because Manz never picks fights with people in ORGs.

There was a swap of sorts, where the final 14 players were split into two new tribes. Manz landed with some big players and, of course, was targeted at their first Tribal Council. He survived, and they were hit with a mutiny twist. One person, Remote33, jumped ship. Manz's tribe was down to five, while the others had eight. Their situation wasn't too spectacular, but Manz had a crazy, off-the-wall idea: he would mutiny to the other tribe, sabotage them to make sure they'd lose, at which point he would probably be voted off. Manz didn't care. He was craZy Matthew. He wanted to cause absolute chaos.

Manz didn't mutiny, but at the final pre-merge Tribal Council, he was being betrayed by his two closest allies from his original tribe. Luckily, Manz aligned with the other two guys and turned things around, blindsiding Gilmore in a 3-2 vote. Manz was so happy his move worked and proceeded to call out people at Tribal Council. It was hilarious.

The tribes merged, and the majority tribe still weren't too fond of Manz. He was targeted by nearly everyone at the final 10, but when unduli clone won immunity, he gave it to Manz to protect him. Manz returned the favor the very next round by eliminating tropical rain, not unduli clone, from the game in a very ballsy moved that almost didn't work. But this was Manz. Somehow, someway, things are going to go his way in Kiribati.

When the tribes re-merged at the final seven, Manz had all sorts of options. He wanted to burn Neleh (island sun) more than anything, and although he was in a final four alliance with Rudy, angstygoldfish, and ThaiSu, he didn't trust those three either. Really, Manz didn't have a single ally that was promising him final two or anything close to the end of the game, which is the exact opposite of Pearl Islands. So at this point, Manz played his own game. It was individual, after all, and more than anyone left, Manz played it that way.

He started by making a very risky and crazy move at the final seven. island sun flipped to the other alliance, but this move was countered by Rudy who flipped to Manz's alliance. This put Manz in the majority, but he mixed things up by flipping his own vote and booted ThaiSu 4-3. By doing this, he negated island sun's big flip, which he was more than happy about since he really didn't like Neleh (island sun) at this point. Here's just a little taste from Manz's confessional about this move:

Matthew

I AM DRIVING THIS MOTHERFUCKING TRAIN AND I AM LAYING THE TRACKS! CHOO-FUCKING-CHOO! I might crash the train.. but at least I will know that I did it and that I wasn't picked off by some UTR bitch and her streaky fucking hair.. OH.MY.HECK = EPIC FAIL!

Imagine that times 100, and you have Manz's confessional for Kiribati. Which some eloquence and a LOT of strategic thought thrown in, don't worry. It wasn't 100% craZy.

Anyway, Manz made it all the way to the final three, and as recapped in unduli clone's write-up a few pages back, island sun took UC, not Manz, to the final two. The hosts hated seeing Manz booted right before possibly winning, but I was okay with it. Manz created an immortal character in Matthew, something that may never be beat in my eyes. Coming in at 3rd place when he was expected to be voted out so early, and after the crazy moves he pulled, was a dream come true. Winning wasn't necessary to secure the legacy of craZy Matthew.

I really highlighted Manz's big moves in Kiribati, I know, but what impressed me more was his social game. As I said at the beginning, he was going to be a very early boot, no question. But Manz knows what the hell he is doing. He went from pre-merge boot to gigantic strategic and social force. The fact that he did so without a tight ally for more than a couple rounds during the entire game was amazing. He truly played for himself, yet people kept trusting him and wanted to use him. He often had many different options and routes to take in each Tribal Council, all because he was able to play such a great social game where people underestimated his ability. At the same time, he was incredibly unpredictable. He played such an insane game, while delivering in sooooo many ways that it's impossible for me to recap everything in one GTS post. The people involved in the game know I'm talking about. The lurkers especially loved him. Those who read his confessional after the game saw some of what the hosts saw. Manz in Kiribati was absolutely brilliant.

So for what I've seen Manz accomplish, there is no wonder why he's in the top five here. In Pearl Islands, he played an incredibly strong game which almost won it for him. In Tocantins, though he went out pre-jury, he played a very strong social game that would have paid off had his tribe not been terrible in challenges. In Kiribati, he played such an unorthodox and risky game that it was magnificent to see it all come together and have him end up in third place. And as I said, Manz has never bored me in a game. Ever. To be such an amazing player and always keep my interest is a wonderful thing.

Omg I felt *so bad* voting for Jerry in Tocantins. He was such a nice guy and it was so hard to vote for him after lying and telling him it wouldn't be him. But then he voted for me so I got over it.

I haven't gotten to play too much with Manzana and I hope he's not retired because I'd like to see more of him in games.

Manzana is a god among men. I truly love him. I told Jeff I was considering leaving my husband for him due to his wonderful confessional as craZyMatThew. That's how enthralled I was with Manzana.

(j/k Matrae, I know he is yours.)

He's hysterical. He's smart. He's genuine. I loved him as Sayid in VI as we promised to slay giants together. I loved him as Jerry on the opening night of Tocantins. He stole my heart. And cohosting him is a dream. Matthew is the best character ever in the history of gaming. And I loved Capt. Jack Sparrow as recently as Vertigo 9.

Great, great addition to this list.

My my... I am blushing pretty red right now. Thanks for all the nice words Jeff.. but in reality, all those peeps that came before me on this list are far superior in these games than me. If I wasn't such a cripple doing challenges, I might have a few wins under my belt, but maybe not. There are a ton of great players on this board.. I am far from being one of the top ones.

Matthew was probably the most fun I have ever had in an ORG, I just really let loose and had fun.

I really don't know what to say.. except thanks for the very nice words man..

Oh Manzana is so awesome... Another just genuinely awesome person... by far he was my favorite person to talk to in Vertigo All-Stars. An All-Stars season is so much different in terms of gameplay, and I'd have to say his social game as Sayid in it was better than anyone I have come across. He genuinely cared about me as a person which is really hard to find in these things.

Manzana  we were close allies as Chris/Chad in FML's Vanuatu game. It was short-lived since I was the first boot

Jerry in Tocantins was amazing. Everyone loved him. On my brief visit to Timbira he was one of my favorites right off the bat.

Manz as Tom Cruise in Coalition 2 was a crazy character too :lbf he deserved the win in that.

And Matt sent frequent PMs to the lurkers in Kiribati, he seemed like an awesome character.

Like Mikester, I felt *so bad* for voting out Jerry in Tocantins...that dude had the charm going AWN! I've only had one round of interactions with him and I still liked him more than half my original tribe. :popcorn

In Vertigo 1, I know we interacted, probably even allied...but that game is such a blur to me. Ana Lucia suckage! We communicated more in Vertigo All-Stars as Ryan & Sayid...we were cool buds, but I knew he was just being the same with everyone. Still, he was in that annoying position where everyone likes him but no one's threatened by him.

But the real treat was closely allying with Nick (Manz) in Jun's House 6. What started as a side alliance (at least for me) ended up what put us on the map in that game. We lost a lot of allies early on, but by grabbing Jen (Romber Rulz), we took control at F6 and never lost it again. Well, I did cruelly axe him at F4 with my veto, when him and Jen were my only options...That hurt. :( But I knew he understood my move cause I would've too. We had such a cool bro alliance and would hash out everything in never-ending PMs. Good times! Jameka (SurvivorArctic) said it best when she voted for me to win...

"Mike, you're a great winner but you sure had to step over worthy corpses to get there." Damn right he was worthy. The worthiest in the whole game, like he probably is in every game he's in. Just so good.

Nick (Manz) deserves to be on this list and I'm so glad he made it. You said it JeffP3, his social game is too good!...There should be a name for that curse...Like the "Majnz Curse"...cause Maj has it too.

Oh and I've lost all hopes of making this list after SurvivorFanGP and Manz made it. God. :lawl
