Down to our final two already? I've barreled through this list much faster than I thought I would. It's been fun reflecting on some of the best gaming moments I've been a part of, and I'm glad other people seem to be enjoying it as well.

The player coming in at #2 is......

spnintendo

Referenced Games:

Nepal (7th)
Exile Island Redux (3rd)
At The Movies (2nd)
Tocantins (3rd)
Nightclub 2 (3rd)
Final Fantasy (4th)

spnintendo could be a brilliant psychotic killer. He really could. After witnessing certain games he's played in (mainly Tocantins) I realize that the guy would make for a perfect serial killer. He is all too happy to backstab other people. It's a pure thrill to him. To your face, he is sweet, gentle, and innocent. Behind your back, he is plotting exactly how he is going to utterly destroy you, anticipating your downfall with maniacal glee.

Fortunately, SP is not a murderer. Instead, he releases his diabolical plots in the things we know and love as ORGs, and it happens to turn him into one of the best players around. I know I've said this is a subjective list, but I have a feeling that if all of the players at GTS who have been around for at least a year made the same type of ranking thread, SP would be on nearly everyone's list. The only exception would be those who have never had the pleasure of playing with him.

SP got his start in 2008, and I first played with him during the summer in DGT's Nepal. I hate to say it, but the board is long gone and can never be recovered (DAMN YOU MANZ) and I wish I could have posted a couple confessional snippets from SP in here, especially from the merge round when he flipped tribes/alliances.

Nepal was an outstanding game, easily one of the best I've been a part of on so many levels, and one of the reasons I loved it was because SP brought out a side of me I rarely see in myself during games: actual anger. The dude was so good at playing two (or more) sides it made me sick, and I was so angry that he was fooling me time and time again. He played me from the final 12 until his boot at the final 7. I remember after he left me out to dry at the final 8, going against the plan he promised to me he would follow, and I told him to his face, "I'm not worried about any other player. I'm worried about you." This is perhaps the one time in an ORG I was truly confrontational, but SP brought it out of me. Good for him.

In Nepal, SP proved how devious one player can be, and how well one person can play everyone in the game. Well, he didn't exactly play everyone since he was voted out a few rounds before even the final four, but for awhile there he held the cards. Although within the game I hated him, I admired his skills. This guy was something special. Up until this point I had never seen one person so fluidly play people against each other round after round.

I then watched SP play in Exile Island Redux. I don't remember much about him as an individual besides him playing as awesome social game along with his ultimate alliance of SFGP and Maj. The three of them controlled things from beginning to end. SP landed in third place, leaving SFGP to go on and win the whole thing, but it was just another solid example of how great SP's social game was. It was also fun watching him function within an alliance that he stuck with and didn't backstab. ;)

I say that last sentence because next I'm going to talk about Tocantins. :D

I think it was just due to his performance in Nepal that I wanted him to be a part of my first cast ever. He played as Brendan, which made him swoon over and over just looking at his own avatar, and he started off the game on the dysfunctional Timbira tribe. Before you know it, SP was in the minority after just two rounds when his tribe was ripped apart by a gripping 4-3 vote.

But then he got a new lease on life in Tocantins. He was kidnapped by the Jalapao tribe, who had no idea what a great selection they just made. You see, one of the benefits to being kidnapped was that you could mutiny and permanently join the other tribe if you wish. It took all of 30 minutes or so for SP to officially mutiny. He joined Jalapao, making them a nine-person tribe as opposed to only five people in Timbira.

Brendan

Well what'd you expect me to do? I'm never one to sit there and wait to get picked off. If you want to vote me off, you had better blindside me. Because if I find out I'm next on the chopping block I will make your life a living hell.

SP wrote this in his confessional shortly after the mutiny. It sums up so many things about his game, mainly that last sentence. But was Brendan done making other people's lives a living hell in Tocantins? No. In fact, he was just getting warmed up.

Due to his excellent social game that we all know and love, SP made the merge, awkwardly coming face to face with his old Timbira tribe mates once again. After Manz was the first merge casualty, SP got involved with a major coup: the minority (two Timbira, two Jalapao outsiders, and SP) would join forces to overthrow the Jalapao majority. It would be five of them against the other four. From a host's perspective, this was absolutely brilliant and beautiful to watch play out. It was like the great Rotu overthrow playing out right in front of my very eyes. To see Brendan join forces with Timbira, whom he left in quite a hurry about a week ago, was simply amazing.

Brendan

I love this position of power. The endless information flow, the knowing everything and having a pulse on what everyone wants to do. I am so damn good at that, I'm sorry. I can't help it. It just comes naturally to me, to tell everybody exactly what they wanna hear, to cater exactly to who I'm talking to, bash the right people, comfort them in their worries, reassure them that their plans will succeed.

Playing both sides was extremely critical to the next move of the game, and of course, if you want to have one player playing two alliances, it's definitely SP. The dude does it with ease. He was a key part in making sure the group of SFGG/Alffmix/Mikester/beatles was completely blindsided at the final 9.

But wait. SP was still not done making their lives hell yet. Because remember, he hadn't quite backstabbed every player in the game yet.

He was given an opportunity to flip once again at the final 8, going back to the Jalapao alliance and booting island sun using his past votes against him.

Brendan

I just feel like of everyone in the game, I have the most possibilities at my fingertips. There is no door that is closed to me. It's fascinating to know that I can practically achieve any outcome I want just be pursuing it. That's crazy, and that's power. I dunno how I do it. What is it about me that people find so approachable and workable? Is it just because Brendan's hawt?

Not at all, SP. It's because, as I've stated many times in this write-up so far, you are way too good at playing both sides and convincing people you're with them. So of course, when the final 8 Tribal Council rolled around, SP flipped again. Alas, it was for the last time in Tocantins. At the final four, SP won a critical challenge that got him to the final three, but it ended there when Alffmix won immunity and booted him. Thus ended one of the most epic individual games I've ever seen in an ORG.

Here's what he said after the final 8 move:

Brendan

I don't even know what's come over me. Yes I like making moves. Yes I like blindsiding people, seeing the shit hit the fan and giggling as people pick their jaws off the floor. But this is a bit excessive, even for me. I don't think I'll ever play like this again, or be able to achieve such greatness. Unless I can.

See? Told you SP could be a great serial killer. :kudo

I watched SP play in Nightclub 2 and while there's not a whole lot I can say about his gameplay, I do want to point out his excellent schtick. He played as Captain and, like the name suggested, he talked like a pirate captain. I don't dare try to recreate it myself, but I ask that if you never saw it before, go check out the Nightclub 2 board. According to Blondie, SP also talked this way in PMs during the game, making the schtick even more epic. The fact that he played a good game and made it to the final three, all the while talking like a pirate, is hilarious.

I know I skipped a game: At The Movies. I wanted to go into Tocantins first, so now, a quick little note about ATM. SP got 2nd, while DGT won, but SP really should have won that game (apparently). He lost 4-3, yet had CLD showed up for the FTC, or left a pre-vote, SP would have won. Officially, however, DGT won. Both deserved it. SP, for his part, played a fantastic game, especially socially. It was another great example of how well he convince people he's doing what they want, only to do something completely different when the votes are cast.

Flash forward to my most recent game with him, Final Fantasy. We started on the same tribe and easily and quickly became very tight allies. I had no idea it was SP because he was called out by aras very early on. No way would SP get into trouble so early on, right?

Later in the game after the merge, SP won some critical immunity challenges to keep himself in the game. He was next on the chopping block the round after I was blindsided, but he won and fucked up everyone's plans. I think he won one or two more challenges before being booted at the final four. The streak had to come to an end sometime, I guess. It was really fun watching SP become a sudden challenge whore when he needed to be.

There is absolutely no question on SP's stellar gameplay. He is, quite simply, one of the best. He is #2 on this list for a reason. SP is one of the best social players out there, and in my opinion, that will get you further than anything in an ORG. It's been a blast playing with him, whether he's on my side (Final Fantasy) or not (Nepal). The most fun I've had with SP was watching him flip-flop back and forth, not just between alliances, but between entire tribes at one point. Penner's got nothing on ORG Brendan.

Among many of our conversations in his Tocantins confessional, SP asked me this:

Brendan

Don't I make every game I'm in a better place?

I think everyone at GTS can agree with a resounding and unanimous yes.

Posted Image This emoticon alone wraps up the amount of pleasure Brendan brought me and we hated each other much of the game.

Actually I grew to love Brendan. I think Brendan is one of the few characters that actually made me post things in open forum that were somewhat confrontational. Yikes, he bought out the meaness in me which is really hard to do.

My favorite snippet from Brendan's confessional was when he said "I'd really love Erinn if I didn't already hate her." It was that type of relationship.

But one character does not a man make.

Spn is a god. We all know it. And for all the cockiness he can show in his confessionals, he is just as humble when he gets recognition like this. As a cohost, if spn is in the game, you know where you'll find me. Hanging out in his confessional, waiting for his unique take of the game.

He's the best and I'm glad I've gotten to game with him.

And now, everybody will be waiting to see who Jeff's #1 is. I'm sure 95% of this community was convinced it would be spnintendo.

I showed up about an hour late and FML had already given my spot to you.

sp has a fantastic social game. He totally had me thinking he was with us at that F9 vote when Joe/beatles was blindsided, as you said he plays both sides really well.

He goes the distance in literally every game he's in, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better player. :kudo

spnintendo is amazing. I've only played one game with him, and it was my first game ever. And after I stupidly gave away our secret alliance and was booted at the merge, he made it all the way to the final 4 My first ORG friend.

And then he recruited me for Xmen and BR too, which were big in getting my name out there.
2012

I always love playing with spn. Even if we barely interact or don't become the best of allies. He's always someone to interact with who knows exactly what he's doing. And as everyone else has said, he's just awesome. Spn is always someone I hope is in a game when I play.

But who the hell is number one?

Unlike my recent Soft Drink Survivor Mini, I did not involve myself in this. ;) A legitimate player (who is not me) is #1.
