I promised an update today, so here it is! I'm so tired right now, hopefully this is coherent. #11 on my list of best ORG players (that I've witnessed)..... Dictatorship Referenced Games: Alaska (2nd) Harry Potter (1st) Gabon (2nd) Belize (7th) Dictatorship. Just saying the name is enough to divide people; some love him, others don't. I think we need to all agree on one thing: he is an extremely powerful player, and if I had played with him in some of his earlier games, I'm sure he'd be higher on this list. From my experience though, he lands in the 11th spot. Here's why. I'll admit that I didn't know much about this guy until our experience in Gabon, so I can't really go in depth about the first two games on the aforementioned list. In Alaska, he came in late to the game to replace another player, or something. Was he the one who replaced BB? I have no idea. Anyway, I simply remember Dictatorship, playing as Frosti, having a hilarious schtick. I also remember getting along with him extremely well. I didn't care if he was playing me for a fool - I didn't want to vote him out. Despite coming into the game a little late, Dictatorship ended up making it to the final three and tied for 2nd place with spnintendo, only to be beat out by Maj. That, to me, says a lot about Dictatorship as a player. I don't know exactly what he did in the game, and it doesn't matter when you look at the stats - a player arrived late and got 2nd place, apparently deservedly so. There are very few people that can do that. In fact, some people that place higher in this very ranking probably couldn't do it. Dictatorship won FML's Harry Potter in the summer of 2008. I don't know much about this game, but one of the things I do know is that Dictatorship absolutely owned it. He won the game in a 6-1 vote against Laughing Pygmy, who was apparently a total moron that took Dictatorship to the final two with him where he would surely lose. And lose he did. From what I've heard, Dictatorship dominated this game and if I remember correctly, was nominated for several GTS awards because of it. It wasn't until Gabon that I really got to play with Dictatorship and learn his style. From the moment we had PMs, the two of us clicked. We made an alliance very quickly, and I knew he was a very sharp social and strategic player. I knew I wanted to play the game with him. As the early rounds went on, Dictatorship never disappointed. We both kept up with each other socially, and we also wanted to make big strategic moves at the same time and in the same manner. We blindsided a potential power player in the round before the swap. I knew right then and there that I wanted to go to the final two with him. We dominated the two post-swap challenges. After the merge, we continued our domination as DGT and ts2 sided with our original tribe to get the numbers. It was at this point where Dictatorship and I started to drift apart in terms of how we were playing the game. I did my best to remain cool, calm, and collected, a phrase I heard more than once from the jurors as to how I played. Dictatorship, on the other hand, ruffled a few feathers by the time we got to the final seven. He wasn't completely abrasiveness or out of control. Not even close. To be honest, I'm not sure on the specifics, but I do remember that DGT randomly voted for him at the final nine, and Dictatorship's reaction caused a little trouble. Through it all, however, we stuck close. Despite us taking different social roads at times after the merge, he was still a very strong player and my final two partner no matter what. He did well in the challenges, as did I, and because of that and our strategy and constant communication, we reached our goal: final two. I didn't believe it. I never thought I could reach the final two with someone I promised it to before even the swap. No one could break us up. Even though I won the game, I still think (and know) that Dictatorship deserves more credit for how well we did. Look at it in retrospect: Dictatorship owned Harry Potter, and then landed in the final two after playing a very good game in FML's next game. That is a fantastic track record. Dictatorship was not only a great player, but also a great character and personality to have in a game. I never knew this combination to it's full extent, however, until Belize. Oh boy. I worked hard to get Dictatorship in, because at this point he was waffling on how much he wanted to play. I got him into Belize that played out in the late summer of 2009, and it was an absolute joy to watch him play. He not only created a great and crazy character with Ramona, but he also dug himself out of several situations in which he appeared to be doomed. When the game started, Dictatorship was late to the party. As many games go, an early alliance was formed on his tribe with some of the players who were the most active on the first day. The others were very active as well. The two late-comers were Dictatorship and MJSLawrence. How the heck would they climb out of their big hole? They were the two people on the chopping. One of them was definitely going home the first time their tribe went to Tribal Council. It helped that Dictatorship's tribe won the first two immunity challenges. Leading up to the second challenge, Dictatorship was being targeted by a couple people. Instead of trying to go after the other late-comer, he tried to turn the tides. He put the puzzle pieces together and quickly realized who was against him, who was trying to call the shots, and who was protecting who in his tribe. This is for a guy who could have very well been the first boot of the game. Dictatorship came out of nowhere and figured out a lot of the dynamics to the Otoxha tribe very quickly. As Dictatorship gathered power and new allies, DGT's game quickly fell apart. It all culminated with Dictatorship winning the day, as DGT left in a 7-1 vote at the third Tribal Council of the game. Say what you want about what happened to their tribe during that weekend, but the focus here is on Dictatorship. He played the situation very well. He couldn't help but piss off a couple people, but in the end, it was worth it since he, you know, managed to survive. Just when he made it out of a sticky situation, he was put right back into one again when the tribes swapped and he ended up in the minority. Other players made some big moves, and Dictatorship lived to see the merge despite his tribe losing the next three challenges. Along the way, he couldn't help but continue to anger certain people. The people that he angered were the ones being voted out, so it didn't affect him in the long run. Still, it was at this point when I realized that even though he was playing a great game, Dictatorship probably couldn't win. Even more so, he was creating the best Chaos Survivor villain ever, which I will forever love him for. At the merge, Dictatorship was in full-on HBIC mode. He ran the game for a couple rounds before Gretchen/Brett Bower made a series of stupid moves that eliminated himself from the game. HvV Tyson has nothing on Brett. Anyway, in a shocking 4-3 vote at the final seven, Dictatorship was finally eliminated from the game. Watching him play in Belize was so strange, and yet so extremely entertaining. It's very rare that I find a single player so compelling to watch. He went from outcast on his original tribe to running the show in a matter of days. He held the power for several more weeks even though he pissed players off along the way. How could someone do that yet still be the head honcho? It was marvelous. I wish I could do that. Dictatorship is such a compelling player, even for his personality alone. He will make his mark on each game. Playing with him is damn fun in every way, whether he is working alongside of you from the beginning or talking down to you because he's in the majority and you're not. ORGs need more players like him who aren't afraid to speak their mind. But Dictatorship is also a great player, which is why he's on this list. He's owned plenty of people here. He truly is fearless. Sometimes it gets him in trouble, and other times he moves ahead in the game because of it. He's one of the very few you don't want to mess with. If you do, you could be in a world of hurt. Most of the time he'll let you know it, too. |

Ace is always a huge presence in games. Haven't been in an ORG with him in forever, but in both JH3/Colo4 he left his mark and played a great game. And it was a lot of fun seeing him dominate as Ramona in Belize, even though I was hoping Ramona and co. would be overthrown.

It's so strange because I never saw Ramona as a villain at all. She rubbed people the wrong way but you always knew where she stood. And I love players I can trust and know where they stand. I knew there was no way she was making it much further at the point she was voted out but I was trying desperately to keep her for one more round at the very least... to my detriment since someone took advantage of that situation to fuck me over. I have no doubt that lovable scamp will be appearing high on this list.

I have been both in the love him and hate him categories but I've never NOT respected him for his gaming skills. If I were ever to do a list like that I'm sure he would be in my top 10 as well. He's a force to be reckoned with. Either recognize it and grab hold for the ride or watch yourself be voted right out of the game. |

There's a lot of big names that I wish I had gotten to play with but have never and probably will never get to, the main one being Dictatorship. I've heard amazing things about his gameplay even before reading that write-up, and now having read it, I'm even more disappointed I'll probably never get the chance to play with him. Just as a personality Dictatorship is amazing and he's one of the few people who can mix personality with gameplay and still go far. Definitely very deserving of the list and I'm glad he's on there. |

I'm glad I got to play with Ace once in my ORGing career... Ramona and I had such a love-hate relationship! Loved her at the beginning, and after being pegged as being an alliance by Tom (which we weren't yet) it brought us even closer together... Then the switch came and by the time we merged she had somewhat emerged as a leader of her own group, and me (Silas) of my own... or at least I think that's how it was perceived... I remember how pissed Ramona was at me after we blindsided Gretchen But then we became friends again in the jury

Here we are in the top ten! Let's see which player lands at #10...... Franklin Bluth Referenced Games: Pearl Islands (5th) Sinners & Saints (1st) Fans vs. Favorites (2nd) Vertigo 7 (3rd) The Office (3rd) I've seen Franklin Bluth play in many more games than those listed above. In some, like Tocantins and FML's Heroes vs. Villains, he didn't do too well. Clearly they aren't an example of Bluth at this best, but they did happen. Bluth has had a few low placements in his ORG career. Why? I'll get to that later. Also, for the Nepal fans - while I was in that game with Bluth, and he got 3rd place, I know almost nothing about what he did or how he did it. I really don't. The best I can do is mention Nepal right now, say Bluth got 3rd, and I'm sure he deserved it based on what I've seen him do elsewhere. I was in Bluth's first game, which was FML's Pearl Islands. He played a solid game and got off to a great start for a first-timer. He didn't really do a whole lot wrong; he was just beaten by a couple of better and more seasoned players than him at the time. Had he made the final two somehow, he stood a shot at winning, from what I remember. Still, 5th place is great for your first game, and Bluth can always credit that to himself. Sinners & Saints came along, FML's big 32 person game. I actually never interacted with Bluth, as we were in separate "games", as it were. Due to a vacation, I had to leave the game and never made the merge, and never lived to see the two casts combine into one. Bluth went on to play a very good game, and out of all 32 players, he came out as the winner. Not only was Sinners & Saints itself very competitive with so many active players around, but it was early on in his career that he netted this victory. That's very impressive, and from here on, GTS knew that Bluth would be a player to reckon with. Fans vs. Favorites last year was the first time I really got to know Bluth as a player. More than just about any player I've come across, Bluth is the most genuine social player around. What I mean by this is when you talk to him in a game, you get the feeling that he is really interested in what you have to say (and I think he is, on both a game level and a personal level). He isn't a gamebot. You don't want to talk strategy with him? Fine. Bluth will talk your ear off about television, or movies, or whatever the hell happens to be the random conversation of the moment. Bluth is so good at disarming you and making you feel comfortable. I actually think he doesn't realize how good he is at this, which is why I say he is a very genuine social player. Bluth is who he is. You'll quickly realize that this guy doesn't mind getting to know you throughout the game, which will cause you to not only really like him, but trust him. Also, since he doesn't come off as a gamebot, he appears less threatening. That is the key to Bluth doing what he does - his social game. In FvF, I realized that. In fact, I'd actually be a little annoyed at times when he didn't want to talk strategy. Instead he'd make fun of the Fans with me or talk about movies, or anything else since it was open ID for both of us. I think this would be a good time to bring up the only real flaw I see with Bluth at times, and that is he can let an aggressive strategic mind to get things done. Sometimes he gets so caught up in the social game and just being his friendly self that he doesn't realize other, more cutthroat, players are scheming behind his back (this happened in Tocantins). They aren't necessarily going after him, but they are making moves that could hinder his game, be it in the immediate future or in the long run if they're against him in the final two. The latter happened in FvF. Bluth played a great social game and never pissed anyone off. However, no one in the jury, consisting entirely of Favorites, was pissed off at all. Had people actually been angry at island sun, Bluth's final two partner, he would have had better luck. Instead, people agreed that while he played a good game, island sun made bigger strategic moves, and five of us awarded him the win over Bluth. Have you been reading what I've said so far, about Bluth being such an easygoing social player who is so good that he isn't usually aware how easily he can sucker people into liking him? Good. Because that's all about to be thrown out the window. Enter Vertigo 7. I quickly realized the game Bluth was playing in this game: everyone's friend. For someone with the social game of Bluth, it's a pretty easy feat to accomplish. By the end of the first night, he had alliances with several people. By the end of the first round, he was involved with just about every single player there. He was aggressive as hell, and I knew it. I wanted him gone, but it was far too early. Bluth was a social threat who everyone needed to watch out for, yet everyone trusted him. My strategy was to get him to trust me and never realize I was trying to take him out. Later in the game, things happened, and I got booted at the final five. Bluth made the correct choice in getting rid of me for multiple reasons. I was going after him, and he knew it. But you know what? I still didn't like his gameplay. It was so boring. He never had to make big moves or piss people off. He played a very defensive game, but he played it brilliantly, better than anyone else there. Very few players caught on to his multiple deals with everyone around him. At the cast reveal, I was shocked to learn that the player who played a little too aggressively for my tastes.....was Bluth. I didn't see it coming. Usually he's much more passive, but not in Vertigo 7. I was impressed. And I should have known it was him, but I didn't. Vertigo 7 easily became one of the best games Bluth ever played, and a major reason as to why he is on this list. Lastly, we have The Office. It was a silly game (how could it not be?) and Bluth was perfect for it, as he is very funny and loves the show. He played as Toby, and like most of the others, he had a schtick that worked for him. Everyone loved Toby, from what I could see. He made the merge, as predicted, and then played his classic social game that kept people liking him. Towards the end of the game, he suffered from lack of aggressiveness in the strategy department (but he wasn't the only one). At the final five, he and his closest ally were outwitted by the other three. At the final four, he was doomed, and only saved by an immunity win. At the final three, he was booted by the person who he helped win the final challenge, which was classic. In the end, I think The Office is a very good sign of how Bluth plays an ORG: a very solid social game, a strong strategic game, but sometimes in the end he is missing that final spark needed to really outwit certain players in the end game. At times it works out for him, and other times, it doesn't. The thing I like most about Bluth is that his genuine social game reflects how he feels about ORGs, and that is he genuinely wants to have fun with them. If he isn't talking strategy with you in PMs, it's because he's enjoying the experience of talking to you about other things. Sure, that translates to a good social game, but in the end, we're all playing ORGs for fun. Bluth has never forgotten that, and he shows it time and time again in how he plays. A player who is clearly having fun, and because of this you want to be his best bud and have fun in the game with him? Wow. You just landed yourself in a world of trouble if Bluth decides to cut your throat. And at times, he will. That's what makes him dangerous, and that's what makes Bluth a great player. |
