I don't usually pay attention to movie critics after seeing the New York Times leave out Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption of the best 1000 movies of all time. Then again, those won Oscars, so they aren't the best examples.

SHAWSHANK didn't win a single Oscar.

It didn't? Wow. Well, it had stiff competition and was still nominated a bunch of times. That being said, the number one rated movie according to imdb shouldn't be left out of the top 1000 movies of all time.

:alien at #9. I'm not reading the write up.

I still haven't seen it. This ranking has inspired me to change that.

I've seen Passion of the Christ once, though I don't remember a whole lot of it since it was at least 5 years ago. But I remember it being a very powerful movie.

I can't wait to do my end of the year movie rankings. I might do it here since I don't know anyone who posts at CTS anymore.

190 watched so far.

I sort of do.

I haven't seen Passion of the Christ so...

Ok just watched Elephant and I have to say..I was on the verge of falling asleep. Watching people walk around for 70 minutes was not something I really enjoyed, and the non-talking was awkward. *sigh* I want 80-something minutes of my life back.

:shrug

Also, just as a note, I've now started to add samples of each film's score to the writeups, because for me, the music and the sound of a film is just as important as what we see. It's why the filmmaking secret anyone can tell you is "films are heard, not seen".

I've already gone back to the UNBREAKABLE and THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST write-ups and added in score samples to the bottom of each post. They're all awesome and should be savored.

Passion of the Christ is phenomenal. Easily on my top 20, probably top 15. I just remember the eyes of the person who ultimately portrayed evil/satan. Yikes, so haunting.

We watched Passion of the Christ during religion class of freshman year....so like I missed a little bit because it was first period and I wasn't exactly awake the whole time, but from what I remember it really was a good movie.

Like, I *GET* the complaints about the myriad of violent and gory scenes, but I felt like a lot of it was necessary to accurately depict how awful a crucifixion truly was.

ugh seriously FUCK the Passion of the Christ. When I was in 7th grade instead of taking us on an actual field trip my stupid egg-shaped teacher decided that we would walk in the freezing cold down to the church rectory to watch it. And then she decided she would give us a TREAT and let us walk down with the 6th grade to watch it with them like a week later. Ugh, bitch, I didn't want to see the movie the first time and I certainly didn't want to see it again. But thanks to her I know have the images from that crazy shit burned in my brain forever.

Thankfully, CLASH OF THE TITANS was only 7 years later. At least your entertainment suffrage wasn't for forever.

I never saw Clash of the Titans, was that also produced by genius award winner Mel Gibson?

And I'm sure Clash of the Titans was much, much better because at least IT didn't rob me of going to the New England Aquarium and posing next to the Giant Sea Turtle like I had been PLANNING the whole fucking year

Passion puts emphasis the part of Christ's life that I find to be the least important part of his journey. I know this is in conflict with most Christian's belief but for me the point is that he came back not that he died in the first place :). Also the healing beforehand and the ascension > his death and suffering too. Weird soapbox to make right now but there it is.

So I haven't seen it. I might now that I know so many people actually think it's a good movie. I've always been told that it's a sado-masochist porno disguised as a movie about Christ.
