#6 for the lose. It was awful. I felt like I was reading a bad piece of fanfiction. I think it took me 3 or 4 months to get through when usually they only take me 1 or 2. I like #5 and #3 the bestest I think |

7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book #6)![]() What a piece of shit. The sixth book almost forced me to lose my fandom. I received the seventh book on the day it came out, but I didn't open it until over a year later because the sixth book was such garbage. Why did it suck? Well, nothing happened. 672 pages and absolutely nothing happened. It was all just a set up for the seventh book, which I guess I understand in retrospect, but come on. Even the supposed to be epic fight scene sucked because Harry wasn't even there for it. We just saw the end result. Okay, so I guess something happened with Dumbledore dying, but I ended up thinking the ending was the worst part. Why? Well, I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did. Horrible shit, and somehow the movie was worse. Even if the seventh movie sucks, which I'm expecting since the last four movies have been awful, at least it can't be worse than the sixth. |

Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are by far my two favorites of the series. Chamber of Secrets/Order of the Phoenix are my least favorites I liked HBP, but maybe because with it being the last book/movie I've seen, it's most fresh to me.

Discuss how horrible the sixth book was. I'll post the next update when I take my next break. |

Well fuck this ranking thread. Too bad HBP has the best narrative in all of JK's books.
 Here's a novel concept: instead of just having lots of battles and action, why not develop the many relationships of the characters that had gotten swallowed up by the politics and angst of the past two books? HBP was a much-needed breathe of fresh air in a collection of books that had become about defeating this evil force and strongest wizard ever. Well how did he become so powerful? What made him so evil? JKR showed us Voldemort's twisted childhood with the warped idea of purebloodness and gave his character depth so instead of just being this evil force, he was a real, disturbed wizard. Moreover, it gave Harry the rare chance to have a somewhat normal life. Voldemort went into hiding and he was able to crush on a girl and have a relationship and have a somewhat fun life without it constantly being fucked up by an upcoming attack. For someone to say that the sixth book that is the narrative and creative backbone of the entire series is bad just shows how little they understand the dynamics of the series. |

It was so stupid and horrible because it felt like it was written by a fantard. The entire sixth book was almost as bad as the last chapter of the 7th book (seriously WHAT the fuck was that?) I hate Jo Rowling. I really do (like, despise the bitch) but usually, I think her writing is very good. The sixth book? Not so much, and the last chapter of the 7th book? Embarrassingly awful. #2 out next plz. It was kind a little dry compared to the others. |

I don't get how "setting up for events in the next book" is necessarily a bad thing? At least for me it was a huge cliffhanger, set up a lot of drama for the 7th book (which I have yet to read) and made you ANTICIPATE the next book. There isn't a "bad" HP book at all IMO. Just ones that are at the bottom because..well, some have to be at the bottom. All of the books and movies are superb, even if some are at their own level.

HBP was better than most books I've read because it is Harry Potter, but I read them for the fantasy aspect more than anything else. Besides, getting the Horacuxes didn't have anything to do with developing the characters, yet it wasn't made to be extraordinary or epic compare to what we'd read before. It was just a way to keep moving the plot for the eventual finale. I may be deluding myself because I hated the ending so much, and I may need to reread the book. Still, the one huge fight they had could've been great had she shown us anything. |

You can pretend you're some sort of elitist HP fan with a higher understand of the books than anyone else if you want, the sixth book was awful and the storytelling was awful. The majority of what was in that book was unnecessary and not much better than a bad piece of fanfiction. It had a few good flashbacks and a few good scenes, and everything else was garbage. eta - I wouldn't consider myself a gigantic HP fan but I read the first 5 books within a month of when they came out a really enjoyed them. It took me forever to get through the 6th one because I had to pause either because it was boring me to death or because I was embarrassed for Jo Rowling that she would include something (like: the last chapter of the 7th book which I will never, ever, ever get over.) I can't remember specifics from the 6th book but I remember the majority of the "romantic" scenes being ridiculously stupid. Dumbledore dying was good, I guess. It gave the book something. |

Scratch part of what I said. Thank you, Mikester, for proving that I am not deluding myself because I hated the ending. |

Every book before it had a cliff hanger, though. At the end of HBP Dumbledore died, and they just stopped after the bad guys got away. It was a terrible cliff hanger. |

This would be like my exact ranking except I think I would have the top 3 moved around a bit. I think Order of the Phoenix is my favo of the series with PoA being just below it. |
