6. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book #1)![]() Obviously, the Sorcerer's Stone was awesome, or else the series wouldn't have become anywhere near as popular as it is. That being said, I personally thought the following ones were better. Harry Potter wasn't a one hit wonder for a reason. Why was it awesome? The first book introduced us to everything. It introduced us to Hogwarts, Harry, and a bunch of other stuff that followed the world for years to come. My mom tried reading my the book when it first came out, and I was intrigued for sure. The only problem was that I kept having nightmares, and we stopped. I eventually read the book myself either right before or right after the Chamber of Secrets came out, so I could read the other one. I honestly can't remember, and I honestly can't remember a lot of details because it has been so long since I've read the first book. Maybe I'm not the best person to do this ranking, but I'm doing it anyways. Why is it below others? The plot is weaker and less developed than the future books because of two reasons. One, the first book was by far the shortest. Two, most of the time was spent introducing us to everything. Additionally, while the tasks/challenges/whatever the three had to do to get to Quirrel was awesome, the ending doesn't compare to the five stronger books. ETA- If I was ranking movies, this would be #1 because it didn't get completed fucked up. |

I know, I'm a slow reader so the movie better be in theatres for a while so I have time to read the book I remember taking years to finish OotP because I kept putting it off. That's probably why OotP is at the bottom for me, because whenever I'd pick it back up I didn't remember what happened previously.

Because the books became progressively better? 5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book #2) ![]() I can't really say anything bad about the Chamber of Secrets. It was awesome, but I liked the others better. I guess not as much happened, and I don't remember it as well as the others. When I was younger, the books scared the shit out of me, and Tom Riddle was a huge reason for it. Now that I think about it, Snoopy, HBP wasn't close to the only book that developed the characters. That's a ridiculous thing to say because of the amount of dynamic characters in the book before the sixth book was published. If you want character development, look at Tom Riddle's diary. Moaning Myrtle is one of my favorite characters (I jumped when I heard her voice in the bathroom of Harry Potter world), and she was great here. As was the imagery of the giant snake attacking Harry. I could write more about all of these, but I'm sure everyone reading these knows the plot details and what happened. I'm simply mentioning my favorite parts. |

I actually remember CoS being thinner than SS. But still, also a classic. This list is flailing.

I am a little late to this party, but I'm going to comment anyway. HBP is a piece of garbage. Seriously. All it is is filler until the 7th book. Nothing memorable at all happens other than Dumbledore dying. And the Half Blood Prince... what relevence does he have? OMG the Half Blood Prince is SNAPE!! So? So what? What relevence does this have to the plot at all? None. And the book is named after it. I seriously don't understand it. |
