Granted I havent tried much alcohol overall. I had an appletini once that wasnt terrible.  That was after my friend who actually ordered it poured packets of sugar and spoonfuls of the icecream from desert in it.  I drank it only because she was going to dump it and I was paying for the damn meal and didnt want 8 dollars to go to waste.

That description horrifies me. And an appletini on its own is one of the most sissified drinks one can have.

This is what happens when two socially challenged college girls go to Red Lobster and realize they can order from the alcohol menu now.

Usually the pickings are slim at college parties, unless one of my girl friends can flirt with a guy over 21 and get him to buy it for us. :lbf But I do really enjoy Rum and Coke. And I've had a lot of flavors of vodka, some are amazing and some are shitty. I really don't like any kind of Burnett's. I can't stand the taste of beer. I can chug it though just for the effect which I ended up doing last night. :/

I grew up with two parents who both drank. Never to excess, but drank nonetheless. A lot of people experiment with it (alcohol) in high school and/or college and it either takes or it doesn't. I never had a sip of alcohol until I turned 21. I drank beer for a while and I never really have been much of a hard drink person, but I do like wine.

It's an acquired taste, for sure, but red wine does actually have some health benefits. The American Heart Association recommends two (small) glasses a day as it contains antioxidants and certain cardiological benefits.

Now the bad part. Alcohol, like anything, can be habit forming. And if you're one who doesn't stick to the moderation part, can be very detrimental to your body - namely the liver. I do like my wine, but I do feel that I need to somewhat watch myself from time to time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fall down drunk or anything (I can't even remember the last time I was shitfaced drunk), but as I mentioned - I do have to keep myself in line.

Add to this that alcohol is so forced down our throats from a social perspective. Look at the beer commercials on TV during a daily basis and especially during a sporting event. Alcohol is so "socially acceptable" that a lot of people start to drink and don't realize they have a problem before it's too late.

I write this as my youngest step son arrived so intoxicated last night that he couldn't even speak or walk. He's 16 years old. And while I don't think this will be something that'll be repeated in the future, as of right now it's pretty disturbing to his mother and myself.

Converse this with cigarette smoking which is just as popular if not more so than drinking. Personally I've never smoked and have always abhorred those who do. I personally believe smoking to be far worse from a health perspective than drinking and I'm fortunate that I have no gravitation towards smoking. But, no matter what your poison, both cigarettes and alcohol are legal drugs, meaning if you're of age (or know someone who is) they're there for you. Unlike pot or any kind of prescription pills that some people take, which are illegal.

Anyway, this reply is on page 3 so I'm sure the original question has long since been derailed, but if you have no attraction to drinking, cigarette smoking or any other "bad" habit - don't do it. Don't even start. What might taste bad now or annoy you know, might be something that's hard to quit five or ten years from now.

Wine tastes like fruit juice when you put in the fridge without a lid on for a few days.

It also depends on the variety of wine. A bottle of Yellow Tail that costs $8.99 will taste like crap, but depending on what kind of you drink and how much you pay - a glass of wine can be one of the best-tasting things you ever imbibe.

Captain Morgan's is atrocious garbage that only peons with no self-respect dare to touch. Or in your case, pathetic liars claim to touch.

It's amateur rum.

Then again, rum is fucking a waste of time anyway.

Vodka Orange is a good way to start too, at least it was for me.

I can't stand Tequila at all, I don't think I could not puke after taking a shooter of that thing, but that's pretty much the only thing I can't drink.

Whiskey/Jack/Rum and Coke have always been favorites. I also live near a sushi shop who sells amazing Sake bottles and it's the best thing ever. It's not ideal for big parties though since it has to be heated.

OMFG YES SAKE. Even if getting take-out sushi, I refuse to eat it unless I can have hot green tea or warm sake with it. <3

Hexa brings up a good point -- flavored vodka. They're nice touches to help sweeten a harder liquor. Pinnacle makes a great variety of flavored vodkas that are delightful on their own but also go well with a variety of mixers, or are perfect to have chased with something equally sweet. Seriously, any company that makes whipped cream and cake flavored vodkas deserves a Nobel Prize.

Flavored vodka is for pussies. Each [standard vodka] has its own flavor. From Smirnoff to Goose to Belvedere and beyond, each is distinct. It's all about the make. I think about the cola taste tests in the 90s, but vodka is no different from that.

I drink to fight depression. It works for some time but then it comes back stronger so you need to drink more. Then I worry that my mom'll catch me drinking. I don't drink at college because parties are too mainstream for me.

The only thing I drink is screwdrivers because I love orange juice.

until I started waiting tables at a restaurant that had a pretty popular bar, I was kind of clueless about alcohol and limited to the cheap beers that showed up at every gathering I went to. You just have to try different things until you figure out what you like.

Seriously, if you don't like the taste, just do not do it. There is nothing wrong with that AT ALL. And if someone you are with says there is, they really are not a good friend.

He's free to a good home. He's very smart (too much for his own good), has had his shots and comes with a head full of red hair.

Any takers? :lbf

Alcohol doesn't taste awful.

Beer is easily one of the best tasting beverages. Hard liquor is an acquired taste. I used to enjoy drinking it straight from the bottle, but now some scotch or rum on the rocks suits me just fine.

Drinking is a social thing. It's something to do, like eating the crap food the serve at restaurants.

Some people drink because they need to have a good time and others do it casually.
