If they discovered alcohol today much the way pot has been "discovered" (as in popularized over the last decade or so), alcohol would never be made legal. The problem today, is that industries like the alcohol or tobacco businesses are too big and shutting them down would be detrimental to the economy - not to mention it would send governmental approval ratings down the gutter. They would never be legalized if they were "discovered" in this day and age of health.

Drugs like heroin and meth are ones you should stay away from as they're easy to get addicted to. Drugs like marijuana and many other drugs are simply a hobby the same way bowling, golf or video games are a hobby. Even alcohol which is one of the worst drugs in terms of the effect it has on your health can be used responsibly. You are even implying marijuana should be illegal. It's not harmful (less harmful than fast food), and even if it was, you aren't hurting anyone else by doing it. Why should there be laws protecting people from themselves? Should we make unhealthy food illegal? Should we make tanning illegal? Should we make the internet illegal because of people like Blueberry? The list goes on and on. It's about personal responsibility, the goverment can't force you to follow good habits. Even if you do make it illegal you aren't getting rid of it, if you haven't noticed millions of people still smoke marijuana even though it's illegal. You just push the market underground. Then gangs like the mafia and bloods/crips start selling it and since they can't settle disputes through the courts they have to use violence. Everyone who smoked marijuana while it was legal will still smoke it while it's illegal, so by making it illegal all you're doing is creating violent crime/ghettos and wasting tons of taxypayer money enforcing these laws.

If you can smoke pot and do it in moderation and know when or when not to do it, it really isn't going to be that bad for you.

The same is not true for drugs like marijuana. Drug users can sit and talk about all the reasons why things like weed should be legal (many of which I agree with) but under the law they aren't. Your reasons don't matter when your sitting in county jail. The law doesn't care if you're "responsible."

If they can prove that you've established enterprise you will. I'm not expert on drug laws but there are plenty of marijuana-related charged that will send you to jail. I can't believe I'm arguing with you of all people but I am not ignorant. Plenty of people go to jail for use. Read a paper.
