As seen before, the next Virgin Mobile phone to be released will be another slider phone. Some time ago, it was rumored to be VM's first EVDO phone. It is from UTStarcom and it apparently will be called the Shuttle. It is also rumored to be the next music phone, like the Sonic Slider was.

Apprently, VM is adding Buddy Beacon to the Shuttle. They have also allowed Helio users have unlimited voice for $80 a month, just like VM customers have access to, but Helions have it better since they can roam.

http://virginmobileusa.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=179

"Immediate plans include the launch of the Shuttle, Virgin Mobile USA's first handset enabled to integrate such Helio services as Buddy Beacon™; and the enhancement of Helio's $80 A La Carte plan, effective today, to include Unlimited Minutes rather than the current 1500 minute allocation. The new terms of the Helio A La Carte plan, which mirror Virgin Mobile USA's Totally Unlimited prepaid voice plan at $79.99, will be available for current and future Helio members. More information is available at http://www.helio.com/."

If you access the user manual, you will also notice that it is indeed an EVDO capable phone (pic of the phone on the manual covers clearly shows "EV" icon).

*applause* Virgin Mobile's phone selection is officially in 2006...okay, maybe 2007...for postpaid stuff. Still, EvDO on prepaid with no hacks required, with relatively cheap data (0.02 cents per KB) ain't bad.

And according to this CNet article...

The Shuttle is supposed to be $80, not $100.
