Talk time is long for me. I've had hour long conversations before and not even reached the orange. One day I wanted to check Wikipedia so I went to Google and searched from there. It took a while and the battery jumped down to red so fast.

It might be worn. It might be defective. But it never gave me problems with talking. Which is why I still have it even now. My first cell phone. I've beaten this thing to a pulp and it won't die.

Surfing for an hour? Wouldn't that use 60 units of your time, and I can't see it being that fast. The C261's don't have 3G or WiFi.

How about my other questions? I'm mostly concerned about the home screen button customization.

I have not really done much web browsing. I use the phone sparingly, and will stay with a $15 a month plan which will be more then enough for the talking or web browsing I do, when away from my computer. Unfortunately, it also means that I am not the one to really answer your questions in these matters. I do however use it as an mp3 player, and since my other mp3 player died a month ago, this will act as it's replacement in that sense. Sadly, I wanted to browse today and was trying to enter a website... but couldn't figure out how to put the "dot" in when I wanted to choose which site I wanted to go to. I will of course try again, but there is nothing in the manual on how to do it.

You can change the home keys, but I have not yet found a way to change the main left and right keys. That is not to say it is not possible, just that I am not sure how to do it.

It will play unprotected mp3, aac, wav, and amr files. I put 113 mp3's on my disk, with a total space of 1.17 GB... hardly my whole library, but it will allow me to play each of them. It is easiest to sort by artist for a particular song. I can tell you however that I listened to music for 1.5 hours today, and it barely scratched the time on the battery. I can also use one of the songs as my ringtone, but I am using a standard one at the moment that came with it.

I want to find those old midi song sites, and try converting one to a mar file and see how it works as a ringtone, tho the llama song I think would be quite unique as well (see albinoblacksheep.com)

Sorry I cannot tell you the bluetooth/mac compatibility. I use neither.

Hmm. I hope that "Browser" button can be changed somehow. The way my C261 is, I have the left button as Camera and the right as Message. Then the four directions starting from top, Address Book, Ringtone, Office Tools, Recent Calls. I've pretty much gotten used to this. While I assume I'll have to learn a new UI, I'd still like some control over it. I hoped since it was Motorola, they might have kept the UI somewhat similar. (Every phone I've ever seen has had a totally different UI. In fact, the 261 is the first one I can actually find my way around. But hand me someone elses phone and it's like WTF? Of course, the iPhone UI I get right away, but since I can't get an iPhone for $15 a month... you know the rest.)

Here's a serious question though for anyone who upgraded from a previous Net10 phone. If I call them up, can I have my information transferred to my new phone? At least my phone number? The only reason I haven't run out of the house right now (Aside from it being 12 midnight) is I am afraid to lose my current number. Because it is just a pain to have to contact all my friends and tell them I have a new number, and change my number with other services like FaceBook, Flickr and Blogger which are linked to my number.

And if they could transfer my 1,235.5 minutes as well, that'd be nice too. But I'd settle for just my number. Can they do that? I'd always been told they can. As long as I have my IMEI number so they can deactivate the old phone.

I believe, that you can just switch SIM cards. We have done that multiple times on multiple phones.

You can move your number and minutes on line if you've registered with Net10. Just log into your account and lick "activate/reactivate phone'. Then you'll go through several steps that will enable you to move everything to the new phone.

Nice. I had read somewhere that you couldn't keep your number. On their site actually...

Guess I misread. Glad about that! Looking at the site, it looks like when I buy it, I'll be able to do it quite easily!

Not that it's important, but will I be able to transfer my ringtones?

Speaking of ringtones, did I read that your can put your own tones on this phone? If so, what file format would they be?

I moved a wav file from my laptop the the 326G via Bluetooth, made a call to it after I got it activated and my girlfriend said the wav file I set as the ringtone worked.

* jStereo ... Hi and welcome to the Forums.

* As far as Transferring all your information from your old phone to a new phone...

* You can also do the Transaction by calling Net10's Customer's Service up and have them do it manually.

* Just use a Landline Phone to call them, and have both cell phones turned on and ready to go.

* Whatever way you decide is fine ... just remember, there is always a chance of problems when doing the Transaction.

* Hopefully you'll have no problems and everything goes through smoothly - but sometimes there are problems.

* Anyways, let us know how it goes if you do decide to get this New Phone...

* And let us know if you find out anymore about the phone if you do get it ... thanks.

Well, I'm going to the mall in a little while with some people. If I see this out there, I might get it tonight. Otherwise it'll be monday. I look forward to playing around with it.

Okay. I just picked it up. Here's a review so far, and some questions...

Was unable to do the number transfer online. The site kept saying "Incorrect number" even though it was right. So I called, talked with the friendly Jonathan service personnel and we got it all worked in a couple minutes. I did get 300 more minutes as well. Added to the 1240 I had before. So now I have 1540.. er 1538 minutes left. (Made two calls)

Questions: (Well, now it's not many because I figured stuff out in the interim.)
Well, it seems the phone doesn't get recognized as a "Storage Device" by my MacBook. Even though I swear I saw Hardware Growler put up a notification that something was plugged in. So it is being seen. But why it wouldn't be seen as a drive is stupid. Still, no world ending deal breaker. I can still place the card in its adapter and plug it into my Garmin to use as a drive. Unless someone knows of drivers for this phone for OS X?

The interface is nicer looking than my old C261. It has ups and downs though. So here's the review part:

Theme: It looks so much nicer. At least the default theme. But it only has three choices. Black, a white one and a white version of the black one. The black one looks the nicest, as it matches the phone. But it makes me think too much of Vista. Still. My main gripe is that the top bar is always white, so I can't have a complete black interface to match the casing. Oh well. Also, the Strength bars are wonky in how they're drawn, but I only notice it because I am cursed with the ability to find a single pixel out of place. No big deal. I like the theme otherwise.

Interface: Well, there does not seem to be any way at all to remove the Browser. Which sucks. Because I too would be afraid of connecting to it. It doesn't ask you for confirmation first does it?

Look and Feel: I love how it looks. And how it feels. It's noticeably lighter than my C261. But not by much. Still, it's a light cell phone that still feels good. I like sliding it open to answer and closed to hang up too. Very nice. My poor C261 was dropped so much the silver paint was peeling off revealing the black plastic underneath. (The Tracfone versions used black frames while the Net10 versions had silver coloring to distinguish them.) It's nice that it doesn't have Net10 written on the front. It does on the back though, but it's nicer looking. I dropped my 261 a lot. But it never died. The back popped off all the time and the battery flew out, but it always worked after that. I hope this one is tough as well. But I will try not to drop it, even if it is a bit slippery.

Features:
It has a voice recorder which will come in handy. I used to create a Text message draft to store notes. But now I can use voice messages. This will be very handy.

It has an FM Radio which I can't use, and I assume the MP3 player too since I don't have headphones. Will it work with regular headphones? Or just a microphone/speaker headset combo? Where do I find the one they just released for this phone? Edit: Weird. The MP3 player works fine without headphones. I can hear it loud too! Why can't the radio work the same way? That seems like an odd choice.

It also has a calendar which my old one did not. An alarm clock and calculator which my old one did. And a lantern.. er flashlight, which my old one did not. (Though the phone I bought the day before I got the 261 that I used for a day, which was $20 and a cheap piece of crap, did have a flashlight. LOL)

It has better games than my 261. But they suck. The NFS game is meh. (It's at night. Now quaint. So was the first driving game ever made.) And The Sims DJ froze up.. I think. I don't know. It was stuck there with no notification it was working. I bet I could program better Java games than these. And I don't know any Java yet. (Can I?) And I don't care for Sudoku.

It does not have a way to put an email address, nor does it have a way to email like the 261 which is disappointing. I used Email to send photos to Flickr. And to email photos to myself. (Not that it's needed now that I can pull them right off the phone.) Still, it's sad to see them missing.

It took a while for me to get all my contacts into the phone. I had a few dozen. But I manually got them all in. Sans the two that were emails. Does anyone know if I can MMS photos to Flickr like I can with FaceBook? Seems silly that I can't. Is Flickr really that behind?

Also, it has a silly lack of sorting options for contacts. I cannot figure out a way to arrange them myself. My 261 let me set numbers to them, so they'd show up in the order I wanted. But this one only does Alphanumeric and "By location" which means SIM card or Phone. Which is dumb. So I'll have to get around that by adding numbers to their names myself I guess. It has Categories/Groups. So why not let us sort by group? WTF? Edit: I'm getting around it by remembering names and just typing the letter I guess. It might actually be easier in the end. Still, what are groups for if you can't sort by them?

I found the Lock feature. But it's odd I can only lock it with Star, which is only visible if I open the phone. So if it's closed, I have to open it to lock it then close it again. But it's nice that it unlocks automatically when I open it up. So that's pretty sweet.

Speaking of the media capabilities. The MP3 player is pretty nice. And it's loud when not using headphones. But for some reason OS X has created empty hidden files as well as the MP3's I copied over that get recognized in the list even though they can't be played. I'll have to see if I can remedy that.

Also, I can use entire MP3's as ringtones. Which is soooo cool. As long as the file size isn't too big. I do not know what the limit is though. I tried a WAV file that was 5MB (30 seconds) and it said too big. But I used an ENTIRE MP3 of "Happy Up Here" (Which is now my default ringtone because it works so well) which is only 2MB and it works fine. Soo... anyone know the limit? I'll have to try a plethora of files. See where the line is. And maybe export my ringtones to MP3 instead of WAV. (Compression. The WAV of a 30 second snippet came out bigger than the song I took it from.) Looks like I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this feature. Alas, I cannot chose my own "tone" for text messages. I can select between 5 tones. But I cannot use my own. This is a big letdown as I never get calls. I always text! I think every phone should allow custom ringtones and text message tones on a per person basis. So I can tell who is calling or texting without even looking!

Overall, it's nicer. I have to put it to a field test. Take some photos. Try stuff out. But I need to figure out how to use the USB Disk mode and put stuff on it which was the main reason I wanted it!

My major gripe is with the inconsistency between phone makers and models. This is a Motorola, yet it has a lot of features missing that older models had. It makes no logical sense, but this is how all phone makers are. They are all DIFFERENT! Why? I understand new smart phones with their touch screens, but all phones should have the same basic standard features and full control over how the data is presented. Let me move my contacts around in my list. Guess I'll have to set up quick lists.
