GREENSBORO, Ga. (AP) - Here's one angler who takes his fishing seriously.

An 86-year-old Georgia man did not want anyone getting too close to his fishing lines, so he decided to scare away a couple of interlopers by shooting at them. Police say the man took a few shots at a pair of fishermen competing at a tournament. One of them was hit in the arm.

John Yearwood was jailed on a charge of aggravated assault and later released on bond.

The two men were in a fishing tournament Saturday on Georgia's Oconee River.

They said that when they neared Yearwood's lines, he raised a rifle and fired two shots that hit the water in front of their boat.

A sheriff's report says Yearwood - who was at a fishing camp but was not in the tournament - fired a third shot that hit Craig Barnett as he sat in the boat.

The men said they sped away in the boat and used a cellphone to call police.

The report says Barnett sustained a wound under his left arm and gave authorities a small-calibre bullet that he says went into his arm.

Sheriff Chris Houston said Yearwood has been putting his fishing lines out in the area for decades.

Investigators found Yearwood at his home.

"He was just trying to warn (them) away from the fishing lines," Houston said Tuesday.

Hmmmmm.....that's totally outrageous!!! :o Having worked with people with dementia, I am wondering if the guy was working with a full deck. Not to be disrespectful of those poor souls with Alzheimer's etc.....but shooting at people???? The guy has a few screws loose!!!

Sounds like he is a hillbilly....those weirdos that live in cabins in the middle of nowhere.....wonder if he's on a psych ward at this point???? But probably not with the healthcare system being the way it is...he's probably walking around with his rifle tracking down the reporters who did the story on him! He needs a good :slap: is all I can say!

LOL Jubes!!! Sometimes a little comic relief is necessary in situations like that. Really.....when I saw my uncle in his open casket back in the late 80s, I turned around and said to my cousin...that doesn't look like your Dad...make up?? He would be HORRIFIED if he knew he was wearing eye liner!! And the rouge....? What the hell???! And that broke the tension even though we were crying alot.

I went to a memorial service last week and it was the most uplifting memorial I have ever been to (and the circumstances were reallly sad).....the family members came to the front and shared funny memories and her quirks. They were serious as well but one of the sons said...."My Mom is no longer in pain she is up in Heaven doing hip hop for God" Classic!! :yahoo: She would not have wanted a serious and totally heavy memorial. She was full of life and the family remembered the good times. :) She'll be missed though. <sighs>
