1. Be nice.

We don't like mean people. Do not flame. Do not flood. Do not stalk. Do not harass. Do use your common sense. You will get one warning if the staff feels your conduct is inappropriate. Fail to correct it will result in being BAN-SABER'D. Have a nice day.

2. Power gaming will not be tolerated.

For those of you who are new to role playing, power gaming is a general term covering many undesirable actions, so I'll break this one up.

2a. Controlling other peoples characters.

This is a big no-no. When you're posting, post only what YOUR character does, not the reactions of other players. You may control faceless NPCs if there is a need for it in your post. Named characters who do not have a player are generally NPCed by volunteers. You should not post their actions without staff permission.

2b. Auto hitting.

Another big no-no. In combat situations, when you attack another character, do not describe the attack connecting. Leave your post open-ended. For example.
BAD: Kite fires his machine gun and destroys the GM .
GOOD: Kite fires a short bust from his machine gun towards the mid section of the GM.

Exception: It's OK to auto hit against NPCs that aren't being controlled by anyone, just for that 'grunt slaughter' effect that is so prevalent in SEED. Don't go overboard though.. remember, those guys are likely to shoot back!

2c. Overpowered characters/MS

This is pretty simple. A character is overpowered if they're absolutely godly at anything with no faults whatsoever. As a rule of thumb, remember the characters are only human, and even Coordinators/Sleeper or Naturals/ S-Strand have a limit to what they can do, especially in the flesh. You're not an action hero. Don't expect to win shootouts when you're outnumbered 20 to 1.

A mobile suit is overpowered if its loaded with 5 tons of ridiculously powerful weapons, maneuvers super-fast, has every feature in the book, or generally just has no weaknesses at all. This also applies if the MS is far beyond the current technology level of the role play. This is not likely to be an issue until you've been playing for awhile, given our restrictions on custom MS.
In either case, you will not be approved.

2d. Invincibility

Nobody in the series is invincible. When in fight situations, you should try to avoid dodging/parrying/nullifying every single attack that comes your way. The characters are fun because they're human and can be hurt. Not even Amuro, Kira and Char dodge EVERYTHING, and even Phase Shift can only block so much before the mobile suit explodes.

3. Nobody is more important than anyone else.

As such, in large scenes involving many people, to keep people from being left behind you should post ONCE and then wait until everyone else involved in the scene has posted before you post again. In large scenes, the admins may enforce a post order. Pay attention to this! Your post will be deleted if you post out of turn.

If someone is heavily involved in a scene, and they have to go, pause the scene until they can participate again. Exceptions can be made if the player doesn't mind, and the character can feasibly extract themselves from the situation.

I.E: Kite winces as his Zaku is grazed by machine gun fire, damaging his verniers. "DAMMIT, I've gotta head back! Cover me!" The Zaku begins to wobbly weave its way towards the Nazca.

If a player seems to have forgotten about the topic, contact them via PM or messengers, or ask the staff to do so. If the same player has to be reminded more than 2 or 3 times, just go ahead and move on. Obviously they aren't paying much attention.

((However to avoid the above all together a 48 hour time limit for posting can be put in place. However it must be stated near the beginning of the topic and by a member of staff only. Also once the time limit for 48 is reached you are allowed to auto hit but only to damage or cripple if you wish. However no direct damage to the character can be dealt, and nothing too major. There's no need to completely knock someone out of the scene.))

4. Behold, for I am the almighty admin! You may not disagree with me!

Just kidding. Arguing with admins and moderators is permissible to an extent. We are human after all, and we do make mistakes. HOWEVER once you have made your case, and been answered, our decisions must be respected. Otherwise we can't do our duties. As a rule of thumb, we will respond to you better if your disagreement is phrased civilly than if you cuss us out. If you are straining our patience, you will be asked to drop it. Please do so. This job is already high stress for no pay, dammit, and if you verbally assault us for doing it, I won't be held responsible for the consequences when my patience snaps.

This holds especially true for approval or rejection of applications. If you are rejected, you may plead your case to a point, but chances are the only thing that will get you approved is correcting whatever we had a problem with. Get too argumentative, and your application topic will be locked.

5. Post length does not equal post quality, but please make an effort.

I'm not going to be a nazi about posting huge amounts of detail. Actually, to be honest, several thousand word novella about your characters innermost thoughts and motivations annoy the crap out of me. A little of it makes interesting reading, a lot of it is irrelevant fluff that just bolsters your post size. I also hate the Wheel of Time books.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I don't want you to make an effort. This IS a forum role play, you have (or should have) as much time as you need to think about how you want to phrase things. As a general rule, don't just post what your character is saying. Think about what they're doing as they talk, their expression, what have you.

This is not to say that the occasional one-line post is illegal. Depending on the scene, its not always avoidable, especially if you're actually going to give people time to react to your actions (which you should! Don't describe an hours worth of activity in one post, for crying out loud!) and for that matter, not all of us are native English speakers. However, consistently posting one-line, nondescript, generally half-assed posts is frowned upon. Does that all make sense?

Also, for some of you vets, we do see you posting in other places. If your posts are eloquent beyond belief elsewhere and short and half-assed here, we might take offense. Be forewarned.

6. HONOR YOUR COMMITMENT.

If you're going to apply for a canon character here, you're making a commitment to be reasonably active in the role play. At the very least, its good decorum to check the forum once a day and reply to anything addressed at you, especially IC posts. If you can't get on, that's reality, but if you disappear for a week at a time or log on without responding to threads you're supposedly participating in, we have a problem. If you have a real life issue that prevents you from checking in, post to let us know. And by post, I mean in the forum. If you only tell people in the cbox, we're likely to miss it if it scrolls off the screen. We do not regularly check the cbox logs without reason.

This applies to original characters as well. Because we make an effort to make sure nobody gets left behind, its possible for one persons distraction to hold up RP for weeks.

If someone is being inactive in a thread, the admins may rule its alright for the thread to continue without them, and the absence of the character will have to be explained away later. And canons, if someone shows up wanting the canon character you play, and you haven't been active in the role play, your account may be deleted. I don't mean to sound unfriendly, but its not fair to sit on a character you don't intend to play with.

7. The cbox is not your public crapper.

Please try to keep in mind, the cbox is a public area that everyone is subject to and everyone has a right to use. If your topic of conversation is clearly bothering someone, please take it to private message or the off-topic forum where those who don't want to read it don't have to.

8. Two characters aren't always better than one.

You must post actively with your first character for at least two weeks and remain active with that character before you apply for an alt. If you are not active with your first character during that time your new one will not be approved until we see proper activity.

Exceptions may be made if your first character cannot be introduced yet. However I do not guarantee this, so I recommend ensuring the first character you apply for is one you're happy with.

9. We are here to play as a group.

Many of you joined to play with a particular friend who has an account here. That's all well and good, but do not play exclusively with one person. Its annoying as hell, especially when you're doing it in a public topic instead of starting your own. Furthermore, try to limit interaction between your own characters to a reasonable level. Sometimes its necessary, but if you're playing exclusively with your own characters and NPCs, we will skewer them all on a jumbo-sized beam saber and stick it on the hall of shame next to Kycilia as her head gets blown off. XP

10. Be courteous

Avatars and signatures should be a reasonable size. No specific limitations here, but if its murdering the tables or annoying as hell to scroll past every post, we'll ask you to change it. Use some common sense, we know you have it. Do NOT direct link to other sites for any reason. (For example, MAHQ for your applications.) That leeches from other peoples bandwidth and puts UCW in a bad position. Save pictures to your hard drive and upload them to a service such as Photobucket.

11. Three Strikes and you're screwed

Because of problems with certain players who like to push their luck to the absolute limit, we are instituting a three strikes system. If you break a rule or otherwise stretch staff patience to the breaking point, the admins may declare a strike against you at their discretion. Three strikes, and you will be banned. No exceptions. A strike will not haunt you for the remainder of your RP here if you're good afterward, but there is not a specific time limit after which a strike 'expires'.

The staff will ALWAYS inform you if there is a strike against you and you may ask for your total in private at any time. The staff will not declare strikes just because you disagree with a personal opinion or similar frivolous reasons, but blatant disregard for rule 4 is another matter.
