Messianic Musings by Craig Hansen is a superb series that teaches how the Old Testament blends with the New Testament. Craig is a Messianic Christian I met on another forum back in 2009. I have talked with him by phone a couple of times when he helped me through a bad time in my life. I respect and recommend his work, and hope others do the same.

I just read the first sermon in the series about David. It was an excellent introduction with a point I had not considered. The children of Israel actually chose to stand away from/hide from God when they first came to Mt. Sinai, and then Saul did the same thing when he was being presented to the people as their first king. I never thought about it like that before. The children of Israel agreed to do all that the Lord said and then stood afar off from Him. That is not what the Lord wanted from them, anymore than from us. He wants to be close to us, have a real relationship with us beyond our lists of prayer requests when we have our quiet time. We should have a relationship with Him wherein we are aware of and talking with Him constantly: "Pray without ceasing."

I have heard the teaching of Israel not wanting to come into the presence of God but not about Saul.

Yet thinking about it both were not blessed by standing back instead of coming into God's presence.

In the New Testament we are encouraged to be like Moses and come into the presence of God.

Here is one scripture that came to my mind when I read your post.

Quote:

JAS 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

It reminds me of another passage:"My soul shall not have pleasure in him that draws away" (paraphrase).

I'll try to find the exact quote next time I'm on.

HEB 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Actually it fits in well with the scriptures I have been meditating on for quiet a while now.

God wants us to Draw Near to Him and in the Gospel of John chapter 15 is where we have that beautiful picture of God being the Vine and we are the Branches. Here we are being encouraged to not just be near God but to Remain in Him or Abide in Him. The benefit of abiding is bearing fruit and without God we can do nothing.

Quote:

JN 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

So we are to be near God and live with him and there are many spiritual benefits if we do this.

Moses came down from the mountain and literally radiated the Glory of the Lord that the Israelites couldn't stand looking at his face and Moses had to wear a veil.

Quote:

EX 34:29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai.

EX 34:33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the LORD's presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.

Wow talk about reflecting the Glory of God. We should be radiating the Lord in our daily lives because we have been in His presence.

That's what I want to do-- radiate with the love and glory of God. :bliss: Father, thank You so much for this, for loving us and wanting our company. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.

Agreeing in Prayer, amen.

Yes how wonderful is that the Father wants us to come into His presence. Before Christ died to cleanse us of our sins and tore the curtain we couldn't just come into his presence. Our sins kept us from entering the Holy of Holies (unless you were the High Priest). Now we can come into God's presence when ever we like.

I have been meditating on this verse for a while now and you have shown me another aspect I had missed. Jesus tore the curtian for us and so we can draw near to God.

I am so unworthy to enter into Your Presence, Father. Thank You, Jesus, for dying for me-- for all of us-- so that we could enter into the Holy Presence, washed clean and made righteous by Your Blood. In Your Name I pray. Amen.

Soon we will get to see the Lord Face to Face. Moses only got to see the back of God not his face.

Quote:

EX 33:17 And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."

EX 33:18 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory."

EX 33:19 And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live."

EX 33:21 Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen."

When we get to Heaven we will get to see the whole glory of the Lord.

WOW! Praise you and thank you Lord.

1CO 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Yes! No longer sin to keep us from Him, nor death, distance, the sin in this world, Satan, or anything else, ever again!

Praise God Almighty that He has the victory over sin and death, and that He has redeemed us with His precious blood!
