Alright...

Since my computers hard drive crashed a while ago, I lost everything. All of my Hayland stuff as well. Since then I have found myself having a very hard time motivating myself to get back into HL. I can't seem to do it...... I haven't updated my horses pages, updated anything, done any work... lost my job... and just been... really.. non-motivated this past month or so when it comes to anything.

What did it for me was I lost all of my financial records for HL. I don't know where to start, lost all my feed order records...

I guess what I am trying to say is I am having a hard time getting myself up and back into the game.

I think I need help with it. I am not sure how though...

I think half of the reason why I cannot get motivated to get back into the game is because their is maybe 5% of activity.. nothing is really going on... if anyone makes a show, it has to be cancelled because of a lack of entries...

Anyone feel the same way?
I don't want to quit... I still want to play and be very active like I was before.. It's just that initial boost from a fall I am having troubles with. I don't know where to start.

I totally understand that; I'm feeling the same lack of activity non-motivation. It's a deadly cycle; we don't want to be active because there's no activity, but there's still no activity because we're not active!

As far as financial records, my advice is, try to remember what your approximate total was and just start a new file with that amount.

As for the activity...what would solve it?

My propositions;

- An all-breed, all-discipline show?

- Maybe rule adjustments? I don't know if there are any exact rules stifling the activity, but I would be willing to bring more horses in to show if I could.

- What about a classlist database? For each of the associations, or whatever else in general, we have a classlist, or several. The idea I was working on with racing would have a classlist for every month, and so I just post the one for that month and have a regular deadline for entries (the first of the month). If we had shows on a guaranteed regular basis, would that help?

Honestly, going into both of those last ones...my suggestion, at least for now, would be eliminate virtual riders. When you have virtual riders, it's (a) more time spent entering shows and (B) horses spread out among classes in shows. If we eliminate virtual riders, we eliminiate rider-based classes at shows (amateur, professional, open, equitation, horsemanship, showmanship [which is basically halter anyway]) and reduce the classlist dramatically, therefore giving people fewer options as to what classes to enter (but not so much as to totally limit them) and causing larger classes.

Not sure I explained it very well...but I think larger classes are a great way to get activity up, because it's fun to have the competition. It's just not as fun when there are one or two entries a class. Plus, with the new automatic randomizers, doing large classes doesn't take hardly any time at all.

(wow, I know I'm an old SIMmer...when I started, we didn't have those new-fangled automatic multiple-class randomizers...I literally drew results out of a hat)

Well in regards to the show I am getting together my DEq Festival but that runs in June and that is a week long, and we are waiting on the results for the OMF show.

In regards to the class list database, each organization has there class lists listed on there individual websites so that actually is already in use. I usually go to the shows and events page and pull my needed class lists from there.

I understand what everyone is saying. I just got back into the game after a leave of absence and I am craving the shows, but there aren't any. The OMF show will start tomorrow, but I don't have many entries, just the "regulars." It is an all-discipline.

Kate, I kinda like some of your ideas about the size of classes. While I don't agree with getting rid of virtual riders, I do think that we can narrow the class lists. When I started with my shows, I wanted it to be as realistic as possible, so that is why I have SO many classes. But a lot of the time, I end up combining classes anyway. So, per your suggestion, I am going to go through the OMF class list and shave it down for the next show.

I must say that I am a big fan of virtual riders because personally, it gives ME a wider variety for my barn. It's more realistic to me if there are virtual riders because when I look at the barns I have been a part of in RL, there are a bunch of riders with different horses. No 1 person owns ALL of them. That's just my 2 cents on virtual riders.

Okay, I think I'm done for now. I will have results for the OMF show this weekend!

I could do without virtual riders....I have to sit there and try to make up names and I have so many horses that I don't remember who was riding who, I don't do write-ups on them. I would much rather just say this horse from this barn.

Also another idea...
This was in another game we used to play...

Anyone could post a show on the show forum and they put unapproved in the title and when it was approved by the person in charge they put approved and people actually posted their entries right on that topic. It would especially help wth emails and PMs being lost. I know one of the reasons I just kinda lost interest was because my horses havent been shown and when I finally did enter ALLLL of them into a show the email was lost or never received. (My records were lost so I had to go through everything to enter all 65-70 horses).

If no one likes the idea about the unapproved/approved I would definantly like to be able to post right on the topic the entries..
..and get rid of virtual riders. Maybe for now we can make it a choice for the entrant if they want the virtual rider or not.

I do have a few shows in mind and now that school is over I'll have time to do results so I'll send them in. With LARGE prizes (hopefully). Don't forget there is a show grant system which will offer you a grant to offer larger prize amounts (which will hopefully get a better reponse)

They will be small so that hopefully *crosses fingers* there are entrants. And I really am considering just running them no matter how many entries *even if it means just my horses* to get some points.

And now that I look the reply to post is how the HLHA show is set up..YAY. lol

I know I am new, okay really new, but I RPed on soo many sites that have been shut down to dead RPers, it seems as if it may happen here. This is the first site that I actually found that seems organized and very well run. But when I looked at the members list to check the activity level, it seems as if the only ones who are playing are pretty much senior to this game. And it looked as if there weren't very many of those. All others had zero posts, which is a dead give-away, that they need help navigating the site. I used to quit sites because I could not get around easily, I was lost. Maybe, you should offer rewards for new players who join in a certain region of time, like a sale.

Perhaps like... If you join this month-month, and post 20 times, you get an extra horse creation credit, or some incentive along those lines. Sort of like a stimulus. You need to motivate the new players to keep them wanting to play.

Being welcoming is already being done, I asked questions on here and everyone replied so nicely-thankyou, it is appriciated. For example, on other sites if I would ask a question, it would take weeks to get a reply, and by then I got so fed up I quit anyways. Or if say I asked a question that came from the How To book, that I missed reading, they would give me a rude answer like ''it's in the how- to book, try reading it''. Now I know it's just me, but I would not want to continue after getting a reply like that. But as I said, you guys have this one down.

Maybe instead of following RL holidays, since this is the dead time, try making a holiday for perhaps New Player day, where they get some sort of bonus for becoming part of the community and bringing life back to Hay!.

I know that I am new, but as an experianced Sim/RPer, I have rejuvenated a few dying sites back to prospering games. I hope that you take what I said into consideration on your plight to restore activity. I know that I have recently asked my cousin to start playing, and I know that she will keep active, as I will help her. I will advertise as much as I can for you guys. Thanks again for the wonderful Sim. I really hopes that this has helped. :)

I do like the idea of adding rewards for new players because that is true. And even I have trouble finding the registries on the main page.

I'd also like to point out that I just sent in for approval 3 shows [1 eventing, 1 dressage and 1 Show Jumping] with a variety of classes that will take place within a few weeks.

And...

hopefully upon approval...

will have some LARGE prize purses!

If anyone would like a sneak peak this is the link

ALSOOOOO

It seems that everyone has had a problem at one point or another with their computer crashing and losing their records.

SOLUTION!

Google Docs

Requirement: Email account on gmail.com

Documents you can create are EXACTLY like word, excel and powerpoint.

but.......

THEY ARE ONLINE..soooo
if you're computer crashes...you don't lose your records.

I've already began transfering mine over.

EXAMPLE:

Simple Elegance's Show Record

All you have to do is go to google.com or gmail.com, sign up for an email, and once you log into the email, click documents and there you go..
YAY lol..

And even better...

when you click and look at someone elses it saves it in a section for ones youve looked at so if you buy a horse, you just have to copy it and save it to a folder and thats it.
