Oh boy what can I say...

For those who know about cars... Mine has a mind of it's own. It is finicky, finicky, finicky. Anyways, I was only expecting to be down for a day or two, I left late last Thursday night and I got home about an hour ago. I'll keep it short but sweet..

My car was having some starting issues, running issues, etc. I have had my car for eight years and I do all the maintaining. I noticed these problems and began researching what the possible cause could be. At the end of the day, I stuck with my gut and swore it was the timing belt, as I was 110,000kms over due from when it SHOULD be changed, oops. I had all the replacement parts waiting in my room, for that day, just in case.

So, it turns out the timing belt was indeed on it's last legs (it is a non-interference motor, so even if it did snap, the likely hood for damage is slim.. thank god). On my way down, my car started bucking, badly. Timing belt pretty much giving up. I limped it to where I was going...

It was only supposed to be a day, a week later, motor torn apart FIVE times, still not understanding why the belt kept slacking and the pulley knocking... It turns out it was the NEW timing belt tensioner arm that for some miracle passed quality control when it was made, after taking a good look at it, it was... get this.. 1MM TOO LONG... on the block side... and in turn the washer was getting stuck on the imperfection and causing the pulley to lock up, seize and not allow the arm to pivot freely...

I put my old one back on, re greased and pressed in a the bearing from the new pulley, and oh guess what? NOW IT RUNS FINE.

ARGHGHAJSHASABHAEJHA. basically sums up the words coming out of my mouth after it ran fine.

So, I am back... and I am still relaxing from all the headaches. I was determined to fix it.

By the first time tearing down the motor, It was 5hrs. By the 5th time, I had it apart and back together within an hour. LOL.

Now I have done the most tedious kind of maintenance on my car.. and I honestly hope until the replacement motor I am building (which will all be done outside of the car), I won't have to go in there again. ever. again. ever... :P

I am happy to be back home with the car and now I can relax and get back into the grove of HL!!

:)
