Adult Character Form IC Information General Information First/Middle/Last Name: Mercury Scott Banks Nickname: Merc, idiot, jackass, fool, etc Gender: Male Birthplace: Rotherham, England Hometown: He lives in his own apartment somewhere in wizarding London Birthday: August 15th Wizarding Information Blood status: Half-blood Alignment: Order Wand Description: A 7 and ½ inch, a dragon heartstring, willow wand. It is chipped in a few places. Pet(s): He is known for sneaking in odd animals. He used to have a hippogriff named Jeff but the ministry made him get rid of it. He now has an owl named Kemper, a female niffler named Anna and her babies, and-the most important pet-Pepper the phoenix Broomstick: A Firebolt which Hermes gave him after he destroyed their Nimbus 2000. Physical Appearance Hair (Style): Like almost everything he wears it’s a bright red that, when caught in enough sunlight, will shine. He doesn’t really have a style because he can’t be bothered with combing his hair when he’s always running around trying to catch up on stuff he didn’t do. So it goes all over the place and sometimes it spikes up but that’s only if he’s had a really rough night. He likes it standing up but whenever he likes a style it changes on him and does something completely different. He thinks that it has a mind of its own. Eyes: Bright eyes run in his family so it’s no wonder he has bright green eyes. Skin: It is very tan since he spends most of his time outside. Build: He is rather short and very athletic. He is rather broad and can handle a lot before he’s beaten to his knees. However, despite his strong build he is actually very good at ducking and dodging. Clothing: He has actually toned down his work outfit to a black robe, red shirt, and yellow pants. Big improvement. When not at work he wears a bright red (what else is there to wear?) t-shirt with his favorite band on it and rips jeans. On these jeans are interesting stains like mustard, paint and a red spot which looks like blood. He always wears socks that don’t match. Other distinguishing features: Well besides his odd sense of fashion the most distinguishing feature are his numerous scars across his chest and back. He got these from a big encounter with a hippogriff. There is a tattoo on his arm of a bright red dragon which he doesn’t remember getting and a burn on his left leg which happened when he visited his friend, Gordon, in Romania. Personality General Personality: Mercury is still the wild, crazy boy he has always been. He is loud and reckless and never says no to a dare or an adventure. He loves to risk his life and he never thinks that he might die some day. He still loves to party and play Quidditch. He still has a strange sense of humor and he loves to say odd things and see other people’s reactions. He tries to help people by making them laugh although he avoids people who are depressed. He knows that he will only make things worse. While many people may find his confidence and odd ways annoying he acts like he is having the time of his life. His view is why cry when it is so much easier to laugh? He always has something funny to say, even in the most desperate of situations. He will change for no one and he doesn’t like to be chained by others. He is very loyal, courageous, honorable, and dutiful. He will die for what he believes in and almost nothing scares him. Some would say the only thing he fears is growing up and they’re probably right although he’ll never admit it. Mercury has never been good at helping others but he’s always there to make them laugh. He hates seeing others sad or depressed so he acts like he doesn’t know what is going on and does something crazy. Despite this act he can be very deep and meaningful when he wants to be (although those moments are very rare.) He is a reckless gambler and some would say he is a drunk. He just likes to have a good that, that's all. He is always there for his friends and would do just about anything for them. He has grown somewhat during the last war and he is proud that he is now able to stand on his own two feet. In some ways, even though he is as wild and crazy as usual, he is also calmer and more responsible. He runs his own department now and realizes that he needs to set the example. So while he allows them to have some fun, he keeps a somewhat firm grip on things and makes sure everyone understands that he's the boss-even if he's a total goof. He understands people slightly better now and he is slightly more helpful. He has also gained a new appreciation for life. He understands that while life is a joke, it's still worth saving. He also feels the weight of being the oldest now that Hermes is dead. He is trying his best to fulfill that role by supporting James in his isolation in Tibet and by trying to give Eric a second chance. He is coming to terms with being a father and even though he won't win the best father of the year award, he is far better than he would have been twenty years ago. He has aged despite his best attempts to remain young at heart and sometimes it shows. He is just tired of war and is looking forward to the new peaceful world the Order is creating. Best traits: The one thing that has always helped him is his sense of humor. He can always make people laugh. This sense of humor has also helped him handle life. He has many flaws and he doesn’t handle things well so he whips out a joke to make everything seem better. He also has a very optimistic point of view on life which also helps make things easier to bear. He is very faithful and beliefs that things will turn out for the best. This faithfulness has not only helped him but many others and people turn to him if they need to remember that things do get better. He is very loyal because he is so clingy. He stays loyal to a friend because he needs them to live. Despite this loyalty he won’t go against his believes which is another good trait. He is very loyal to his beliefs and he would die for them. He is very courageous and usually runs headlong into a fight without thinking of the consequences. He is also very dutiful and nothing comes before his duty. Worst traits: He is very proud and stubborn. He will never bow down to anyone and will never give up his beliefs. He never admits that he’s wrong which has caused many fights. He is also very insecure. He constantly needs someone’s approval because he’s like a dog that constantly needs assurance that he has been a good boy. He loves attention which is why he dresses the way he does. Sometimes he hurts other by trying to upstage them or by being a stubborn git. He has a hard time being an adult and often turns what should be something serious into a joke. It is the only way he can handle life, but it also disconnects him from it and that can make it hard for him to form relationships with others. Strength: He is very strong, loyal, and courageous. These are strengths as well as weaknesses. He stands up for his friends and would never abandon them. He can handle a lot physically-emotionally, however, is another story. He is willing to die for his friends and his beliefs. Another strength of his is his faith. He always believes that things will turn out for the best which gives him the strength to look up and see the light even though he is surrounded by darkness. Another one of his strengths, one that scares many people, is his fearlessness. He isn’t scared of death, Death Eaters, Varius, Voldemort or (to a certain extent) Dementors. He willing puts his life on the line and a part of him hopes he will die in battle. Mercury feels that no one would really notice that he was gone and it is better to die in the heat of battle then in old age. Weaknesses: All of his strengths are weaknesses. His loyalty and courage make him blind to the dangers of risking one’s life and makes him too trustworthy. He never considers his family or friends to be traitors. Another weakness is his fearlessness. He always rushes into battle and constantly nearly gets himself killed He also has a horrible way of opening his mouth during battles showing disrespect to the enemy. He openly mocks them and makes sure they knew that he think they’re laughable. It’s not because he thinks he’s better than them but it’s because he knows they live for fear and always self-grandiose themselves. He likes the satisfaction of knowing that he didn’t bow down and admit that they are powerful and are people who should be feared. His biggest weakness however is his pride and stubbornness. He never backs down, even if he’s wrong, and constantly hurts others because he won’t admit anything. He also hates running from a battle since he feels that it is cowardice. If he has made a strong stand however and has proven that he’s not going to back down so easily it is easier to bear. Like: He loves playing Quidditch and riding horses. He likes to read history books, hike, climb trees, and listen to music. He loves muggle music because he grew up with it. He likes to argue with others and do things most people won’t. He loves getting odd looks from people but likes praise more. He loves spending time with his friends and family. He also loves the color (you guessed) red and sushi. Dislikes: He dislikes liars, cowards, people who like hurting others, and rich assholes. He hates hamburgers and pollen (because he’s allergic) and swimming. He also hates the prejudice between purebloods and muggleborns although he loves making fun of pretentious purebloods. However the one thing he HATES beyond all else is the dark arts. Hobbies/interests: He loves listening to and playing music. He loves Quidditch and is at every game that the Appleby Arrows play in. Worst fear: He fears growing old and never doing anything, to die because he was too old to live. He fears that he will be strapped in some kind of cage and fade away into nothing. A boggart would materialize this by turning into him extremely old in chains on a chair barely conscious because he’s too old to stay awake. Background History: Mercury was a half-blood. His father, Henry, was an Auror, and his mother, Mira, was a muggle. The Banks was a family that was once known for its money and power but Mercury’s grandfather, Henry’s father, ruined that. He had a horrible gambling problem and he lost most of their money. His family was also known for its association with the Dark Arts, but Henry destroyed their connections. When he became an Auror he sent his whole family and all their associates to jail. This left the Banks boys with no one, but their parents and Mira’s family. Henry’s life was always in danger and his family was constantly threatened, but it was Henry’s strength and brains that kept them safe and unaware. Mercury was the second oldest and he was born during a trouble time. Henry was in St. Mungo’s healing after a nasty battle and Mira wasn’t allowed to see him because she wasn’t a witch. They were helped by Henry’s good friend John Heth. Henry healed and he continued the fight although Mira was worried. She didn’t know what wizards could do which made her extremely agitated. Mercury’s brothers were Hermes (the oldest), Eric, and James (the youngest). His parents were always fighting, and the joke in the family was when their parents died they would die at the same time and fight in heaven over who died first. He was born in Rutherham but they moved to the country after he was born. This inspired Mercury's love for animals. They had no real connection Mira’s family because they disapproved of Henry. So the four boys grew up in extreme isolation with only Henry’s three friends and each other for company. Although his father was busy with his job and was barely home, Henry still took time to teach the kids important values. He taught them about honor, dignity, courage, and loyalty. He told them not to fear death, but to accept it, as there were things worse than death. Mercury would greedily listen to the stories his father and his father’s friends used to tell about their adventure as Aurors. These stories convinced him he too wanted to be an Auror. Although their father was almost never home, the Banks boys had a lot of fun. They rode horses, played Quidditch (until James broke his nose), took up archery (until Mercury somehow shot himself in the butt), played musical instruments, read together, watched movies together, and got in debates over the stupidest things. Mercury was known for doing crazy things and to rope his brothers into helping him. A few of them consist of trying to jump out of the highest window in the house onto a mattress, setting himself on fire and wanting to do it again, digging a connection of tunnels in the backyard and try to reenact the Great Escape, catapulting their cat Hancock, and trying to convince their mother to keep a hippogriff. He wondered why his parents never killed him. Slowly the fighting between their parents grew worse and there was a constant fear that Hermes might be leaving. The kids wanted Hermes to go to Hogwarts but they also dreaded it because they didn't want their leader to leave. They looked up to Hermes and expected him to show them what was right and wrong. As time wore on Mercury began irritable and started to attack James more than usual and he could no longer stand being around Eric. When Hermes received his letter Mercury was both sad and happy. Before Hermes left for the train they sat down on the front porch and had a nice, long talk. It was about nothing yet everything and it made Mercury feel better. When Hermes left, Mercury felt that it was time that he became leader and tried to act more mature (he failed but at least he tried.) One night his parents had the worse fight ever and Mercury heard his mother tell his father that some things couldn’t be fixed. He heard Henry leave. The next few months were spent in court and Mercury watched his father taken away from him. It nearly killed Mercury. He made his own revolution against his mother and trashed the house. His mother and Mercury had a long chat and he promised not to ruin the house again. Instead he let out his frustration in letters to his brothers, especially Hermes. He slowly cooled down although he was still angry at his mother. During the spring his father was wounded and they weren't sure Hank would survive. Mercury begged his mother to let him go see his father but Mira said no. Mira knew that if Henry saw his boys with him he would lose the will to live and die but if he was alone he would fight to live and see his boys once more. Mercury however didn’t understand this and she didn’t explain because she knew he won’t understand. During this time he went through a deep depression and looked for something to keep him going. He found that the only thing one could do was laugh. His father survived and, in two weeks, was out of the hospital. Although Mercury was grateful that Henry survived his relationship with his mother was on the rocks. A year later Mira became very sick and Mercury had just received his letter from Hogwarts. The wizarding courts decided that it was too much strain for a muggle mother to take care of four wizards, so they sent the four Banks boys to their father. They were not sure if they liked the decision. It was rather painful for Eric, who had never gotten along with their father, but Mercury figured they would eventually work things out. Besides he had far more pressing things to worry about-like getting ready for school. When he received his Hogwarts letter, he did a little jig on the table and couldn’t wait until it was time to go. At Hogwarts he made many friends and, although he wasn’t very happy when they needed emotional support, he was always there for them. However he made five friends that would stick with him through thick and thin-Jim Garnett, George Gordon, Ronald Maxwell, Charlie Tremaine, and Joseph Trimble. They were inseparable and got into so much trouble it was a miracle they weren’t kicked out of school. Mercury still hung out with his older brother even though Hermes was busy helping his friends and taking care of his own grades. He had fun trying to get Hermes to do ridiculous things, especially when Hermes became prefect and eventually Head Boy. During Mercury’s second year his mother stared dating which Mercury resented. He went on a rampage fuming about his mother. Despite Hermes’ attempts to make him see reason he was furious as his mother for many months. He often did not speak to his mother even when they visited her during the summer. When Eric was accepted Mercury was ecstatic. He roped Eric into many adventures and they pulled many pranks together. They were often called their generations Fred and George. However, Mercury was blind to that fact that Eric was slowly losing himself to the Dark Arts. For whatever reason, he couldn’t see it. This would later come back to haunt him, although to be fair no one seemed to notice or to even care. When James was accepted Mercury wasn’t as ecstatic as the other Banks boys were. He was never fond of James and he thought he had escaped the twerp by going to Hogwarts. His dislike for James was caused by many things but the major thing was that James had Mira’s approval. He was her favorite (besides Hermes, who was also Henry’s favorite) and Mercury wasn’t anyone’s favorite. He didn’t hate Hermes because he thought Hermes deserved the honor but to him James was a twerp and the youngest. It hurt his pride that he would be a favorite over him. James was also his only way to let out his frustration and anger. When James arrived Mercury teased him that it was a mistake. When James received a letter of congratulations from Henry, Mercury’s mouth fell open. He never received such a letter. This did not help strengthen their relationship but it gave James some confidence. In his fifth year he saved a young boy from a hippogriff and was attacked instead. His chest and back are now brutally scarred. When Mercury was seventeen, Mira married. This was too much and Mercury cut all ties from her. He doesn’t listen to, talk, or think about her. The Banks boys respect his feelings and refrain from talking about her around him. Mercury, unable to deal with the fact that he no longer had any parents, tried to reconnect with his father. At first it was hard since Henry only saw a young, untested boy not his son. But over time Mercury slowly won him over and now they’re extremely close. When Hermes graduated Mercury felt a little lonely. Although he made many friends at school and he had two brothers with him it wasn’t the same. He was also a little frightened since he would be grown up soon. He wasn’t sure he would be able to stand on his own two feet. When he graduated he spent two long nights talking to Hermes about his options. In the end they thought it would be for him to go to Auror School. As Mercury was training, James was bit by a werewolf. He survived but the young boy felt he was diseased and he wasn’t good enough to be in another person’s presence. In an attempt to make James feel better and to give him someone to go to for support he shared his apartment with James. Although they had many fights they slowly grew close and Mercury now accepts James for what he is and agrees that James is worthy of praise. A few years later James decided to go to Transylvania and study vampires and werewolves. Hermes gave him some money and Mercury helped him travel. When he became an Auror his father took him out on his first mission. They ended up chasing a guy all over Diagon Alley and London. The dark wizard ran to London thinking that he could lose them there, but he was dead wrong. They ran into a dark alley way and they didn’t know who was friend and foe. Henry managed to capture the wizard but someone else entered the alley way. He tried to help the dark wizard (because he thought that Henry and Mercury were muggers) and Mercury panicked. He shot a killing curse at the man and the poor kid died. In shock, Mercury watched the lifeless body crumble to the ground and he saw his face for a whole two seconds before Henry made Mercury turn away. That face has been haunting Mercury ever since although he doesn’t remember what it looks like exactly. It was dark that night and he only saw the face for a second or so, so it continuously morphed into his friend and family in his nightmares. They apparated and Henry told Mercury to take a vacation and relax. Mercury didn’t go anywhere. Instead he stayed in his house replaying the scene in his head. Henry considered allowing Mercury to be sent to Azkaban and pay for what he did but his friend John Heth talked him out of it. The Ministry didn’t know that Mercury killed him and although it was an unsolved case the Ministry wasn’t interested in pursuing a Muggle killing. They had had enough of those with Voldemort and no one saw the Muggle get killed. They could easily say that the wizard did it. Henry decided to leave it alone and the case remained unsolved. He told Mercury that it was taken care of and it would be best to forget about it. Things went from bad to worse. Ambrose Powell, a friend of his fathers, was framed for muggle slaughter and they couldn’t prove him innocent. A few months after that, Theodore Hooper another good friend of their father’s had been killed. Then Eric disappeared without a trace. Mercury was worried sick when he found out and he spent many weeks searching for him. But, just like Hermes, he found nothing. He spent the next few years working as an Auror and went through many girls without really getting attached. The closest he ever got to have a real relationship-and maybe the closest he came to truly being in love-was when he met Naomi Hutchinson. They met at a Ministry function and had hit it off. They dated forever and they were wonderful together. His wild and impulse streak got her out of her shell and her regulated and control self controlled him. They would have been wonderful together if Mercury hadn’t botched it up. During one Christmas together Naomi asked him to move in with her and he bolted out the door and never looked back. He regrets it but he knew it was the right thing to do. He just couldn’t handle being in a serious relationship. He wasn’t wired like everyone else. He was meant to be alone. For the most part his life was trouble free. His friend Gordon married and moved to Germany to take care of dragons, Ron got a job at Gringotts, Garnett was teaching at Beauxbaton and dating a rather foxy French women there, Trimble was running the family cauldron shop, and Mercury excelled as an Auror. However things weren’t a hundred percent perfect. A war started to brew and he knew what he needed to do. He joined the Order and together they fought the threat known as Varius. During the war he ran into a woman named Kally. She was cute so he started to court her. However his world was shattered when he discovered that the man he killed all those years ago was actually her brother. He ran from her place and surprisingly fond comfort in his all but forgotten cousin Amel Lovett. They had never really spoken before because he never got along with her side of the family, but they found that it was each other they needed. Amel had killed a kid and she was devastated. They managed to comfort each other and formed a bond that not even her strange disappearances can destroy. More bad news came in the form of Hermes’ death. Needless to say Mercury was devastated but he didn’t really have time to mourn. He was too busy fighting the good fight. He somehow managed to survive all the encounters with Varius and provided to be useful when the Order entered the Ancient’s tomb. However that was a foolhardy mission as the sword had already been taken by none other than Voldemort. During the lull between Varius’ death and Voldemort’s rise, Mercury quit being an Auror. He simply couldn’t stand being an Auror after killing an innocent man. Instead he tried out for a position in the Magical creatures department and somehow became the head of the Bureau of Magical Accidents and Creatures. He’s not quite sure how that happened and there are days when he feels overwhelmed by all the responsibility. For a while he was expecting someone to come in and tell him there had been a mistake. It hasn’t happened yet but he’s still waiting. The one good thing about his new job was that he met a phoenix there. She took a liking to him and is now his best friend and loyal protector. He also suspects that she sees him as some bizarre kind of mate because she gets very defense around other females. Naturally he called her Pepper. Once the war between Voldemort started, two people from his past showed up. The first person to pop back into his life was Naomi Hutchison. They had managed to work together rather well-until he drunkenly visited her house and tried to make out with her. The second person was his supposedly dead brother, Eric. He literally sat on his brother just as he was about to finish Naomi off. Eric managed to escape but Mercury had been on the lookout for him ever since. He was going to get a pardon for Eric even if it killed him. The war continued and they suffered greatly but they kept up the good fight. Mercury was far more useful now that he had Pepper. He had even managed to grab the Eternal Sword from Voldemort and helped Caedmon kill Mircea which was a plus. He hated that damn annoying vampire. The war came to a close when they decided to use Pepper to save Caedmon, while Cael fought Voldemort, and the Order members (using a plan that Mercury had concocted) went berserk and started fighting Death Eaters. Somehow the plan worked, no one stayed dead (except Voldemort thank God) and Pepper managed to teleport everyone back to the hospital wing safely. He then went to the Ministry to help Ralem break the Voldemort was dead and Scrimgeour had betrayed them all but redeemed himself by saving Cael’s life. While all that was going on, Mercury managed to pregnant a woman named Constance. He now has a son named Theodore who is suffering from cancer. This has also earned him an enemy named Michelle Powers. He personally can’t wait until that woman dies a violent and painful death. Now that the war is over Mercury is doing his best to help heal the world. He managed to gain a pardon to Eric and personally vouched for him. He now keeps an eye on his brother while trying to make sure his department does its job. Mercury honestly has no idea what the future has in store for him now, but he looks forward to it. It can’t be any worst than what he has already been through. Family: Father: Henry Banks. He is a pureblood who came from a rich, mobster family. He went to Hogwarts and was in Slytherin. He was his house’s team captain and Head Boy. He became an Auror and spent five years undercover before finally bringing his own family to justice, destroying a mobster family that was at least a hundred years old if not older. He is now retired and lives in the countryside far away from people. Mother: Mira Johnson. She is an American muggle who was introduced to Henry by their mutual acquaintance Theodore Hooper. She struggled long and hard to understand the ways of wizards before eventually divorcing Henry. She is dying from cancer and is currently married to a gay prime minister. She doesn’t love him but they have a deal worked out. If she acts as his wife, he can hid that his gayness from a judgmental world, and he’ll do everything in his power to heal her. Mercury doesn’t speak her at all. Siblings: Hermes Banks: He was the oldest and was in Gryffindor. He had many friends and generally held the family together and kept Mercury out of the insane asylum. He was an Auror an d he died during the war. Eric Banks: He was in Hufflepuff and had many shady friends. He disappeared roughly nineteen years ago and he was presumed to be dead. Not much is known about his past and he likes it that way. He was an Obscurati and a Death Eater but is now on the path of redemption-or so he would like everyone to believe. James Banks: The youngest. He was in Ravenclaw. He is a werewolf and spent some time in Transylvania trying to find a cure before he was banished after killing his ‘girlfriend’ by mistake. He is now in Tibet learning how to meditate and control the beast within himself. Cousin: Amel Lovett: An Unspeakable and currently missing. She was married to Josh Lovett and had a child. No one knows where she is and she is also presumed to be dead. Mercury did not bond with her until the Kally incident so he really doesn’t know much about her either Son: Theodore: He is at least a year old and is suffering from cancer. Mercury has a rocky relationship with his mother and that will probably not change any time soon. Self-Proclaimed Wife: Pepper. She is a phoenix who would protect Mercury with her life. He suspects that she sees him as some strange kind of mate. Occupation Profession: He is the head of the Bureau for Magical Accidents and Creatures Specifics about the job: He is the head of the department which means he has to run everything. He has to make sure all the reports have been filed and the place doesn't descend into pandemonium. He also coordinates everything and makes sure everything runs smoothly-or at the very least make sure it appears like everything is running smoothly. Working atmosphere: Like everything else in his life, he takes his jobs with a sense of humor. He always finds things to laugh about and it seems like he doesn’t take his job seriously. He hates paperwork which is why his office is always full of unread papers. However, he can be serious and a disciplinarian when he wants to be. That's not very often though. He's usually having the time of his life and it shows. OOC Information Your name: Sam How did you find us?: I've been here since the beginning of time.
