Wind me up, spin me 'round,
Oh, lookie what I found
Boots and boys
They bring me so much joy
I gotta say it, wear 'em both so pretty as I walk in the city
Watch out boots and boys

Detention? Really now? And of all the detentions at that. Stacking books on the goddamn library shelves. This was not funny at all. These books smelled horrible too. Why the hell did he have to make the fourth floor toilets sing? Why oh why? Ugh. These books disgusted them. They were used by children. Children that didn't wash their hands and liked to eat and drink and go to the bathroom with them.

Cas was trying to force a book into an already full shelf. With enough force, he thought he could get it in. But with his luck, the shelf broke and the whole row of books came falling down on him.

"Merdre," he swore in french under his breath. He looked around to see if anyone was going to come and yell at him. But of course, he couldn't see a thing, since there were so many shelves around him. The maze of the library protected him from at least one thing, annoying people. Hah.

Cas started to pick up the books, repaired the shelf, and replaced them on the shelf. Oh how he wished he was doing something else. Maybe having fun with Nikki and Rebecca would be fun. Or causing some more mischief somewhere....

Laughing to himself, he opened up a book and decided to try it out. Leaning against the shelf, he amazingly immersed himself into the findings of some wizard on a long lost voyage.....that was until he snapped it shut and uttered "shit" under his nose.

Instead of restocking the shelves, he started to bang his head against some books...

Asteria Le Fay

With a start, Asteria sat up in her chair. Man, she must've fallen asleep....again. It's become a habit to dose off in the library while she was supposed to be studying or doing homework. Her parents have sent her numerous owls inquiring about her newly formed habits. Asteria has chosen not to answer them in fear of what they might think if they knew what was really going on with her. Over the past few weeks, she's felt.....sad. She could easily blame it on Cas and that whole fiasco at the Casino but she really couldn't. Besides, she wouldnt give that much power to the arrogant boy. No, there had to be something else that was bothering her deep down. Her relationship with her siblings was suffering too and she didnt like that at all.

Gathering her books, Asteria drowsily stood up from the table. The library didnt seem to be too crowded so maybe nobody noticed her sleeping. She really needed to actually sleep at night instead of walking around the Hufflepuff Common Room. Maybe she should see the school nurse about getting something to help her sleep better. Asteria rubbed a dull ache in her chest. Perhaps this was guilt she was feeling. Guilt over what had transpired weeks ago, even if all of it wasnt her fault. Cas had acted like a complete jerk that night but she could've reacted differently. It was just that she had been so angry at the way he was coming onto her. Like she was some kind of plaything at his disposal. No thank you.

Sighing, she rubbed her eyes as she walked through the maze of tables and headed towards the rows of books to reshelf the two she had in her arms. She must've been still half asleep because she didnt notice the mess before her until she tripped over the corner of one of the shelves. "Ow!" The two books fell out of her hands but she didnt notice because now she hearing a knocking sound coming a couple rows away. Forgetting about the books, she walked towards the sound.

The throbbing in her knee was completely forgotten when she spotted the culprit of the noise. Casimir. Asteria stopped a groan from spilling out of her mouth. Of all the people at Hogwarts, she had to spot him in the library. Okay, maybe he wont see her standing to his right. She could always run for it and nobody would get hurt. The dull ache in her chest was growing to a burn so she knew she couldnt do that. That would be very cowardly and Asteria prided herself on being brave in most things. Taking a deep breath, she took another step towards Casimir and said, "You're going to get a headache."

Cas felt sort of...refreshed from hitting his head with the books. Actually, maybe he found a new method of clearing his head and getting rid of boredom? Or maybe he was just going to give himself a headache...

"You're going to get a headache."

Cas stopped abruptly and spun around, only to find himself staring at Asteria. The one and only. Damn. It had been a while. A long while. And what, now she forgot about how much she was supposed to hate him?

He looked her over before turning away and jamming the book back onto the shelf. "What do you care?" he asked with a hint of annoyance. Why did she bother? After all, she had wished she had never met him! He had finally met a girl that was something more than just a girl, and she didn't want anything to do with him!

He began to pick up books from the floor and placing them back on the shelf. Why was she still standing there? Seriously? He looked over at her again and stopped forcing books in between others. "Really now? Is there anything you need? A book? A whole lotta books? Or maybe a lesson in leaving people alone?" Cas asked sarcastically.

Ok, so maybe he didn't have to be so...mean. But, well, as much as he deserved what Asteria had said to him that terrible night...well, he had his pride and he didn't want to be kicked around by some girl who decided that he was a waste of basically everyone's time.

"What do you care? Really now? Is there anything you need? A book? A whole lotta books? Or maybe a lesson in leaving people alone?"

Asteria had been expecting Casimir to still be upset with her. He wasnt her favorite person at the moment either but at least she was trying to be civil with him. Not that he deserved it. Now she regretted saying anything to him. It seemed that she may not get anywhere with apologizing to him for what she said to him that day so many weeks ago. He would only shrug it off and walk away from her. Kinda like she did the last time they saw each other.

Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, she watched him cram books onto the shelf. Why was she still standing there? The burning ache in her chest was not allowing her to move from this spot. Her conscience was way too sensitive when it came to hurting other people's feelings. Yes, she regretted saying that she wished she'd never met Casimir but at the time, she meant it. It may make her a terrible person to feel that way but she couldnt help it. He hurt her too.

Feeling the anger from that hurt rising, Asteria snapped back. "I dont need anything from you, Casimir." As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she wanted to snatch them back. It wasnt like her to snap at people. Not that Casimir didnt have it coming but she usually had much better self control. Crossing her arms over her aching chest, she said in a calmer voice, "Look, I'm sorry for what I said to you that day in the casino. I would be lying to you if I said that I didnt mean them...at the time. Now, I wish I had never said them." She bit her lip and waited for him to explode some more at her.

"I dont need anything from you, Casimir. "

"Oh you don't need anything do you? Then why are you still standing there? Dammit, just leave me alone why don't you?" Cas just realized how much his accent stuck out when he was angry. It wasn't too pretty actually. And boy was he angry. He didn't like being pushed around by girls, especially a girl like her! And so what if he had acted stupidly when he was drunk? So what? It didn't matter because he had been drunk! Out of his mind!

Apparently that didn't mean anything to girls though. He was a mess in Asteria's eyes, most likely. She said she didn't want anything to do with him. Maybe that's what made him so angry! She was confusing him by being around and then by not being...around. Yeah. That made sense.

"Look, I'm sorry for what I said to you that day in the casino. I would be lying to you if I said that I didn't mean them...at the time. Now, I wish I had never said them."

Cas stared at her with his jaw hanging. She was crazy, wasn't she? That was it, she was crazy. He had found a girl that was CRAZY! "So you say something you don't mean but you mean but you don't mean?" he asked bitterly, not exactly understanding himself what he had just said.

Cas finished placing all of the books on the shelf in front of him and then wiped his dusty hands on his pants. He really wasn't sure of what to do now, but that little upset creature in his brain told him to be just as cruel to Asteria as she had been to him.

Cas stared at the shelf in front of him for a while before he realized there was a misplaced book. Great. Exactly what he needed. If that crazy librarian lady found a misplaced book, she'd probably turn him into one. And that would be terrible. He didn't want to spend the rest of his life getting cider all over his bindings and being read in the bathroom while the reader does their stuff...gross. No, he wasn't going to let that happen.

He grabbed that book angrily and looked around for the proper shelf. Which was of course, with his luck, behind Asteria. So he did what he could and walked up to Asteria, inches from her. "Could you move?" he asked in a somewhat...rude tone. He needed to put the book on that shelf!

ooc: i dont think that post makes any sense

"Oh you don't need anything do you? Then why are you still standing there? Dammit, just leave me alone why don't you?"

"So you say something you don't mean but you mean but you don't mean?"

Casimir's first questions cut deep. Asteria knew she had hurt him and she was trying to be civil here. She was trying to tell him that she was truly sorry for that hurt but he didnt seem to want to hear it. All he wanted was for her to disappear, just like she wished so many months ago. Guilt ate at her every single day over what had happened at the Hotel Nebula. The rest of her family's vacation had been disastrous because everyone had been worried about Asteria's mood. Of course, she tried to tell everyone that she was all right. She was lying and her family knew it. Only her sister Athena knew what really happened and that was the way she was going to keep it.

Why was she still standing there taking Casimir's cold attitude? Because she deserved it. He needed to take the blame for how he acted while drunk though. Asteria wasnt the only one to blame for all of this. Yes, she hurt him with her words and she was taking responsibility for it. Why couldnt he see that?

"I'm still here because I deserve every bit of your anger, Casimir. I dont blame you for being angry and hurt. What you have to realize is that I was hurt that day too." His next words only confused her so she ignored them. She would explain when he calmed down a bit later. When he grabbed a book and demanded that she move, Asteria simply reached for the book in his hand. Whether he gave it up or not was up to him. She could probably put the book on the shelf better than he could at the moment since he was so angry and frustrated. "I can put the book on the shelf if you want. You might hurt herself in the process since you're so angry."

"I'm still here because I deserve every bit of your anger, Casimir. I dont blame you for being angry and hurt. What you have to realize is that I was hurt that day too.
“I’m not hurt,” he muttered through gritted teeth. No real man could allow himself to be hurt. What the hell was she on about anyway? Did she really have to make a big deal out of this? “So basically you’re telling me that you take everything personally when people are drunk? That’s great to know. Now I just need to make sure I stay far away from you when I get drunk. Perfect. That shouldn’t be so hard to do!” Cas hit the book against a nearby shelf. Ok. He was getting too angry. But still. He got drunk often. It was his coping mechanism. Not many people knew about it. Actually, the only people who knew were Rebecca and Nicole...I think… She was trying to drive him mental! He couldn’t even think straight!

I can put the book on the shelf if you want. You might hurt herself in the process since you're so angry."

Cas didn’t really want to hand the book over. It’d be like being indebted to Asteria. He didn’t want that. In any way. He held on to the book with all his might. No way was she getting it. “I am not going to hurt myself,” he grumbled unhappily. He pushed Asteria out of the way (in a very ungentlemanly way and tried to force the book on the shelf. It wouldn’t fit though, and in his moment of anger, he put so much pressure on the shelf that it fell down on top of him, just like the last one. He let out a loud groan and then turned to look at Asteria, just waiting for her to flash an “I-told-you-so” face.

Then, Cas let his emotions take the best of him and he just crumbled to the floor, surrounded by many old, stinky, dirty books. He curled his knees up to his chest and placed his chin on top.
He really didn’t understand why this was bothering him so much. But the accumulation of moving and heartache and a new opportunity obviously failing and everything else that weighed down on his mind, he felt like she was out to get him and ruin everything for him. That’s how it felt at least. And then there was that little inkling in his brain, that little persistent thought that Asteria reminded him of someone. Someone from his old life. That just put the icing on the cake.

After a moment of silence he sighed. “Just go away.” Maybe that sounded a little mean. “Please,” he begged.

“I’m not hurt. So basically you’re telling me that you take everything personally when people are drunk? That’s great to know. Now I just need to make sure I stay far away from you when I get drunk. Perfect. That shouldn’t be so hard to do!”

Asteria jumped back when Casimir hit the book against the shelf. Okay, so he was lying about being hurt. Otherwise he wouldnt be acting like this. Like....he lost his best friend? Denial was not an attractive trait on anyone so why was Casimir not willing to admit his hurt? His words hurt but Asteria decided not to let him know that. She was done with spilling her heart to this boy and getting nothing but cruelty in return. Glaring at him, Asteria replied, "You are one to talk about taking things personally, Casimir. You are the one who is throwing books against shelves as if you are a mad man."

She was not expecting his next move. She felt herself being pushed aside by Casimir, who refused her offer to put the book back on the shelf. The force of his push caused her to stumble out of the aisle, just in time to see the shelf fall on him. Asteria surged to her feet and pushed the shelf off of Casimir. When he turned to look at her, Asteria could tell he was waiting on her to tell him "I told you so" but now wasnt the time for that.

Asteria wasnt prepared to see what happened next. It was as if all the air came out of Casimir as he crumpled to the floor. She frowned and wondered if there was more to all of this than he was letting on. His broken plea caused tears to come to her eyes. Did she do this to him or was this a culmination of other stuff too? Never in a million years would she have imagined that she would hurt someone this much. She felt like the lowest scum of the earth right now. Somehow she had to make this right between them, even if he wasnt willing. Asteria took a seat on the ground opposite of Casimir and tilted her head to the side at him. The first question that popped into her mind was "Are you okay?" but the answer was pretty obvious. Instead, she said in a gentle voice, "I'm not going anywhere, Casimir." She bit her lip to keep it from trembling. "I'm so sorry I hurt you."

She laid her head back against the bookshelf and took a deep breath. She glad that there werent too many people in the library at the moment. Otherwise, they would've caused quite a scene just now. Crossing one ankle over the other, Asteria ventured, "This is not just what happened between us, is it?"

"You are one to talk about taking things personally, Casimir. You are the one who is throwing books against shelves as if you are a mad man."

"Newsflash! I am a mad man. I thought thought that was the reason you hated me! Or was it my hair? People hate me 'cause of my perfect hair you know..." Sarcasm was the best way to hide it all. Of course, everyone knew that. So in emotional situations, there really was no way to hide anything, not unless Cas had a stone cold face (something he would never be able to pull off).

"Are you okay? I'm not going anywhere, Casimir. I'm so sorry I hurt you."

Cas screwed up. He had settled down and looked like he was ready to cry. No. He couldn't let Asteria get to him. He had to undo this somehow. Shaking his head, he jumped back up to his feet and started placing books back on the shelf. "No. I'm fine. It's just the stupid bookshelf. Fifth one today. That's all." Of course, he was lying, but he was trying to play it cool. Trying to make this something it wasn't....

"This is not just what happened between us, is it?"

"No Asteria. No it's not. It's about the sky being blue. I fucking hate blue. It's such a tedious color. Ruins everything really." Why the hell was he going on about blue skies? Maybe it would work though. Cas wasn't exactly brilliant, but it was possible that Asteria would get distracted by Cas' obvious mental problem.

"Look. I have work to do. This is detention for me. So just leave me alone. These books need my undivided attention." Yeah, right. Cas would love to be doing anything but those books. Anything.

"Newsflash! I am a mad man. I thought thought that was the reason you hated me! Or was it my hair? People hate me 'cause of my perfect hair you know..."

Okay, so maybe Casimir was a little crazy at thinking that she hated him because of his hair. Yes he had beautiful hair but was that really a good reason to not like someone? No way. Asteria scratched her head at the thought of him thinking that she hated him. That simply wasnt true. Sure, she was angry at him that time at the Nebula but that was then. She wasnt sure how she felt now honestly. Their encounter in the library wasnt going very well so far and it could get worse before the day was over. Sighing, Asteria said, "Yes, Casimir, I hate you because you have perfect hair. Any girl would be lucky to have hair as shiny and smooth as yours is." She rolled her eyes at his sarcasm and was satisfied that she gave him some in return.

"No. I'm fine. It's just the stupid bookshelf. Fifth one today. That's all."

Oh, she didnt believe him for a second. It was very obvious that she'd hit a nerve somewhere with him. Rubbing her forehead, she stood up after he did. He could stand there and restack books all day and pretend that she wasnt there but she wasnt going anywhere until she got to the bottom of this. There was a lot more going on here than he was letting on. Yes, she believed that he was hurt by her words but Asteria was smart enough to read between the lines. "It's not the bookshelf and you and I both know it, Casimir. Why cant you just be honest with me?" Okay, so that may be a stupid question on her part considering they werent on the best of terms at the moment. Still, she could help but ask it.

"No Asteria. No it's not. It's about the sky being blue. I fucking hate blue. It's such a tedious color. Ruins everything really. Look. I have work to do. This is detention for me. So just leave me alone. These books need my undivided attention."

Asteria shook her head in frustration as he started rambling about the color blue. What the heck? "So, dont wear or look at the color blue. Look, I dont care about colors right now. I dont even care if it's detention for you and these books need your undivided attention. I need your undivided attention right now. The least you can do is tell me the truth about what's going on with you after the way you treated me at the Nebula." If that didnt get his attention, she wasnt sure what else would.

"Yes, Casimir, I hate you because you have perfect hair. Any girl would be lucky to have hair as shiny and smooth as yours is."

Cas caught the sarcasm. Hey. At least she was learning. Maybe eventually he could have fully sarcastic conversations with Asteria. Though, she would never replace Rebecca and Nicole. The only thing he thought she would replace was the empty hole in his heart. But that obviously wasn't going to happen. After all, they were way past that now. They were on the verge of murder...maybe.

"It's not the bookshelf and you and I both know it, Casimir. Why cant you just be honest with me?"

"Guys don't do honest. Duh!" he replied with full sarcasm. "Look. I don't do honest. Honest gets me in trouble. Always. Because if I were honest, bad things would be coming out of my mouth. Things that people really don't want to hear about themselves. I'm not honest. Remember that." Cas was scowling. It was true, honesty wasn't his best policy. He tended to avoid it at all costs.

"So, dont wear or look at the color blue. Look, I dont care about colors right now. I dont even care if it's detention for you and these books need your undivided attention. I need your undivided attention right now. The least you can do is tell me the truth about what's going on with you after the way you treated me at the Nebula."

"After the way I treated you. Great. You're still hung up on that aren't you? Don't you understand? I was bloody drunk. Merdre! What else am I supposed to say? I'm sorry? Is that what you want? I can give you a sorry. But I know that's not going to please you Miss "I'm too good for anyone like Cas!" You're too busy in that stuck up world of yours. You don't give a damn about me. All you need is yourself."

Merlin...someone help him now. Really. He needed a miracle. A distraction. Someone to just pull him out of this hell hole argument he was having.

"So no, I am not going to tell you the truth. Because the truth is just going to scar your pretty little innocent face. It's something you don't want to hear while you're too busy living in your goddamn fairytale world. Like I said: Bloody leave me alone!"

"I see." Asteria let his words sink in. Bad things were coming out of mouth ever since she walked up to him and he seemed to be spilling out some real honesty towards her. Maybe he never really liked her as a person to begin with and he was finally telling her the truth. She wished she could accept that though. That day in the alley when they had run into each other, he seemed to be entranced by her and she felt the same way about him. She must've misread him. Asteria might just be better off not being around Casimir anymore. It was obvious that was what he wanted. Why would she waste her time being around someone who didnt like her?

"After the way I treated you. Great. You're still hung up on that aren't you? Don't you understand? I was bloody drunk. Merdre! What else am I supposed to say? I'm sorry? Is that what you want? Asteria would be an idiot to stand around and listen to him belittle her like this. At first, she wanted an apology but now she just wanted him to stay away from her. Maybe she'd meant what she told him at the Nebula. He thought he was too good for her even though he's accusing her of thinking she was too good for him. He was hurting, she could see that. However that didnt give him the right to accuse her of things that were mean and untrue. In a quiet voice, Asteria said, "You know what? I refuse to feel sorry for poor little Casimir Dragomeru who's had such a tough life. I dont care what you've been through in your life. That does not give you the right to stand there and call me names and tell me that I'm living in a dream world." She took a few steps towards him and jabbed her finger into his chest with every point she continued to make.

"You are the most selfish person I've ever met. You stand there as if the world was ending but it's not. Lots of people have problems but they turn out fine. Why should stand you around and feel sorry for yourself? I get that you dont want to tell me the truth. At this point, I dont give a damn." This was a first for Asteria. Cursing was not something she ever did. "I've tried being your friend in trying to get to know the real Casimir but you will not let me. I get that you're mad and hurt by the things that I've done and I've apologized for that. Now, you want me to leave you alone to wallow in your self pity? Fine."

She turned around abuptly and began walking through the bookshelves.

It was like a dream, only...it wasn't. Marissa stepped into the library and inhaled deeply, closing her eyes. During her time at Hogwarts, the library had always been her favorite place, her own personal sanctuary. It felt as though just the quiet of the place eased her stress away completely, and that's why she came here in the first place. The alumni dinner wasn't until late, and Marissa had, of course, arrived early. To kill time, she'd decided to take a stroll around the castle, and mid-tour she thought about the library. So that was why she was here.

She walked slowly through a long row of shelves, a hand brushing the cool wood of the shelf eye-level to her. Her eyes flitted through titles both ancient and fairly new, the leather, paper, and hardcover bindings colorful. Just being here brought a smile to her lips. Truly, it had been a long past few months for Marissa, and something as soothing as this was probably good for her nerves; a new baby, fighting with Connor...it all seemed to disappear here.

A title caught her eye, something about charms theory. Grinning, Marissa stood on her toes, trying to reach the book (which was, of course) on a shelf just too high for her to reach. Fingers barely brushing the title that she wanted, she sighed, almost forgoing the entire thing. It's not even worth it. But, as stubborn as she was, Marissa tried again, biting her lip as she struggled on her tippy-toes.

Cas didn't know what had happened. One minute he was yelling at Asteria, the next, she was yelling at him and sticking her finger into his chest. That hurt, by the way. And all the things she was saying...they were getting on his nerves. She was getting on his nerves. He was sick of it all.

She was living in a dream world. She didn't realize it. She had siblings, parents, etc. She had the whole deal. He had nothing left except some distant relatives like Tallen. He didn't have a real life, a real past, something with great memories. To him, everything was a jumble of colors and actions he had taken.

And now, this girl, this girl whom he had taken a liking to, had jsut completely fallen apart in front of him. She was supposed to be an angel of sorts. But no, it turned out that she had a darker side. It turned out that she was capable of being mean. Just like him. Maybe he had underestimated her?

Cas didn't know anymore. He wanted to say so many things, but in the end, he just let it go. He kept his emotions inside of him as he watched Asteria go. It was probably for the better. If they hated eachother now, then they would never have to deal with any romantic feelings. And even with that, maybe he was giving himself too much credit? Maybe she didn't like him the least bit in that way?

Cas turned and headed off in the other direction, walking through all of the shelves. It was then that he had seen Marissa. She was trying to reach a book on the highest shelf. A shelf she would never ever reach. Luckily for her, he was tall enough for that.

Quietly, he walked up to her until he stood right behind her, ever so close, and reached up, brushing her hand as he grabbed the book she had attempted to pull off. With a smirk, he placed a hand on her waist and twirled her around, holding the book up high enough so that she couldn't reach it and take it from him.

"Looking for this, Ms. Baptiste?" He hadn't seen her in forever. Well...not forever. But it had been a while. Last summer....in France. They had met at some wizard hot spot. They had had....quite the interesting relationship. Really....it had all been very casual. They never had sex...no. But well....they were always all over each other. It was funny to see her here of all places. That....and how much she'd changed.

"Fancy seeing you here..." He stepped closer to Marissa. "My how you've changed."
