As soon as the boy looked up from his book Asteria immediately realized the sound hadnt bothered him at all. Great. She just apologized for nothing. Oh well. At least she tried. She picked up her quill feeling slightly embarrassed. Her apology was probably what bothered him. Wonderful. Should she apologize for apologizing?! When he finally spoke, she was grateful that he was at least kind about it. Even if he did seem a bit nervous about something. He looked like he was around her age but he didnt look familiar. Not that she had any friends here. It was quite sad when you thought about it. The only person she really knew at Hogwarts was Casimir. Well since he graduated her count was now back to zero. She really needed to get out more. Try to make new friends even though that's always been difficult for her. Asteria was an introvert, much to the consternation of her mother. It would make her mother so happy if she was a social butterfly but that was never going to happen. No way. Shaking her head of those crazy thoughts, she gave the boy a slight smile. "I guess I'm just stressed about school. This is my last year and I want to do really well. My plan is to become a healer someday so I have to excel in my classes. I realize that school just started back and it's probably a bad sign if I'm already this overwhelmed. It's just that my older siblings have excelled at everything they've ever done at Hogwarts and I dont want to disappoint my parents." Realizing that she just spilled her guts to a complete stranger, Asteria let out a laugh. "I dont know why I just told you all of that so please forget that I said anything." She hurried back to her table and sat down. If the table could swallow her up, she would be eternally grateful. |

It didn't take much more than the girl picking up her quill for Gab to finally get what she was apologizing for. She must by accident have thrown the quill over at his table, and assumed it had been a distraction to him. That made sense, at least more so than the 50 different scenarios he had been putting together in his mind to otherwise explain her behaviour. "I guess I'm just stressed about school. This is my last year and I want to do really well. My plan is to become a healer someday so I have to excel in my classes." Gabriel couldn't help but feel fascinated at how what she described as her future plans alligned with his own. The only thing following school he had given any serious thought or consideration to so far, had been exactly that, a healer. There was just something about it that appealed to him, though the thought of having to be around people at all hours of the day, sick, grumpy people at that, felt rather intimidating, and he had to admit that so far the healer career only sounded great to him in theory, if not entirelly in practice. "I realize that school just started back and it's probably a bad sign if I'm already this overwhelmed." Gab could relate perfectly well to what she was talking about, from time to time through the years he had felt some rather intense pressure, especially during the exam periods. He could only immagine what next year would be like, as far as he understood, 7'th year was to be viewed as nothing but one long drawn out final examination. And even though every bout of selfdoubt over the past had been washed away by the succes he enjoyed when the exams finally did run by, he couldn't help but feel anxious about the future. "It's just that my older siblings have excelled at everything they've ever done at Hogwarts and I dont want to disappoint my parents." Now this was something he couldn't relate to, personally, but it still sounded very interesting to him. Possibly, simply because it was rather foreign to him. He was an only child, born to a mother whose biggest expectation for him was simply to be happy about what he was doing and not to betray what he knew was right. While his good grades were welcome, they never had played any role in how she treated him, and she never asked about them unless he brought them up, finding it more interesting if he had made any new friends, maybe gotten himself a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend? Or whatever her son found preferable. That had probably been the most awkward moment in his life, having to explain to his mother that, yes, he was indeed straight, even though he did not have a girlfriend, and hadn't had one yet at the ripe age of 14. She always did hurry to much with those things... At least he knew her love for him was unconditional, even if she was crazy. "I dont know why I just told you all of that so please forget that I said anything." He had wanted to speak up, not getting to do so as she turned about and walked back to her table. He could almost literally taste the awkwardness in the air, it was almost unbearable. He hated leaving a conversation that had been initiated hanging unfinished, especially when it had been as interesting as this. He had to try and pursue it, even if it was againt polite protocol. Either that or he would be obsessing over it for the rest of the day, maybe more! After a few minutes, he had gathered what courage he could, stood up, closed his book and picked it up. Walking over to the girl's table, he tried on a smile, attempting his best to look reassuring. "Hey, I figured the best way to get even between the both of us was for me to come over here like this, and then apologize about doing so? Should put us on an even keel?" He said with a friendly smile, grinning slightly "My name is Gabriel Dane, I'm a 6'th year" he added, reaching out his hand towards her. Edited by Gabriel Dane, Sep 19 2011, 10:33 PM.

Once she was seated, Asteria refused to look at the boy. He probably thought she was completely certifiable. It wouldnt be an uncommon thing to come across at Hogwarts. She should pack up her things and leave the library before he called Madame Pompfrey on her. However, Asteria just couldnt find the motivation to move. Nothing seemed to be going the way she wanted. At the end of last school term she had such high hopes of staying in contact with Casimir. She had the biggest fear that he's found someone else. It may be insane and she really didnt think he was like that but she couldnt help how she felt. Asteria had no problem admitting that she was not the most enjoyable person to be around. Most of her attention went towards her studies and normally that was okay with her. Now she had something in her life that felt just as important to her. Maybe she should send him an owl to see if they could meet somewhere at Hogsmeade soon to catch up. Hopefully he will respond to her. Sighing, Asteria brought her focus back to her Potions homework. This was her worst subject so she always struggled with it. It was amazing that she'd gotten to her seventh year without failing the class. She didnt know anyone in her classes well enough to ask for help so she had to rely on herself. She absolutely refused to ask her sister for help. Any sign of weakness for the Le Fay family would be scandalous. "Hey, I figured the best way to get even between the both of us was for me to come over here like this, and then apologize about doing so? Should put us on an even keel? My name is Gabriel Dane, I'm a 6'th year." Asteria jumped at the unexpected voice next to her. For a moment, she simply stared at Gabriel. She couldnt believe he came over here. Did she not scare him off with her babbling? Man, she would've run as fast as she could out of the library if someone had done that to her. Maybe Gabriel was crazy too. She shook his offered hand and returned his smile. "Hi Gabriel. I'm Asteria Le Fay. I'm a seventh year Hufflepuff." Crossing her arms on the table, she continued with, "You are a brave soul coming over here to talk to me. If someone had just rambled on like I did to me, I would've run out of the library." |

"Hi Gabriel. I'm Asteria Le Fay. I'm a seventh year Hufflepuff. You are a brave soul coming over here to talk to me. If someone had just rambled on like I did to me, I would've run out of the library" Run out? Well, Gabriel supposed that might be an applicable reaction, if a rather hasty one. If people were to run every time someone started to ramble a bit, he would never have made a single friend at this school. He had lost count of the times he had gone of on tangents in the midst of a conversation, but then again, maybe it was a Ravenclaw thing? They certainly had a tendency in his house to discuss things in a different manner than the other houses, no matter the subject. He supposed he was lucky to have ended up in Ravenclaw afterall, a place where strange minds seemed to blossom. More than her words about how should have long been running down the corridor to the library, escaping her, the first thing she said caught his attention. Her name specifically. It wasn't the kind of name you heard everyday, heck, you practically never heard it! "Wait, really? You are a Le Fay?" Gabriel asked, almost stumbling over the words "Like really?! That's amazing! Like actually descended from Morgana Le Fay herself, the witch he trapped Merlin himself? That is so cool, I mean, it's pretty much the same as meeting the direct descendant of a house founder, well, except those families have all died out or been completelly diluted! Really, the only family to compare you guys to would probably be the Kael's, but they werent originally brittish, so its not really the same! I've read all there is to read about your family and..." Gabriel had to stop himself, before this went any further. He had no doubt, he was seeming insane to her, probably incredibly rude to. Where did he come of blabbering on about her family, like he knew it better than her? Not that he actually thought that, it was just hard for him to really contain his excitement! However, this wasn't the time to gush over her, like she was some new book he had found. It was time for damage control. "Eh... Yeah, sorry about that, I get excited about history and that kinda stuff. But then, I guess now we really are on an even keel, huh? excanging a rant for another seems fair to me, no?" He said, blushing slightly as he let out a nervous, but honest grin. |

Asteria couldn't help but grimace when Gabriel caught the significance of her last name. Yeah, she's endured seven years of this and was suddenly grateful that this was her last year at Hogwarts. Not everyone knew her family's infamous history but those who did thought it was so cool to have such a crazy past. In all honesty it wasnt all that thrilling to her. Just once she wanted to be known for her successes and not because of some crazy grandparents she had from long ago. Their history is what kept the Le Fay family a close knit group but it could be rather isolating. Her younger brother liked to go up to strangers and announce who he was. Asteria could really do without all of the hype. Despite all of that she had to smile at Gabriel's enthusiasm. He didnt seem like the type of person who got excited about alot of things. "Yes, that's my family. It's not often that I come across someone who knows as much about my family as you seem to." She laughed softly and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "It's kinda cool having such an interesting family history. My younger brother, Achilles, loves parading around telling everyone who he is while I prefer to be less loud about who I am. I mean, I love my family and am very proud to be a Le Fay but...." She had to think of the right words to say to explain herself clearly. "I guess it can rather isolating having everyone know everything about you." "Eh... Yeah, sorry about that, I get excited about history and that kinda stuff. But then, I guess now we really are on an even keel, huh? excanging a rant for another seems fair to me, no?" Laughing at Gabriel's embarrassment, Asteria said, "You dont have to apologize. I know what's like to get excited about something. Now I feel much better about my earlier rambling. Now that both of us have established that we are both crazy ramblers, I'm wondering what else we have in common." For the first time in a long time she was actually enjoying herself. |

"You dont have to apologize. I know what's like to get excited about something. Now I feel much better about my earlier rambling. Now that both of us have established that we are both crazy ramblers, I'm wondering what else we have in common." Gabriel breathed a mental sigh of relief, seeing how she was taking his behaviour. She would have been quite justified in being offended at his words, even angry. Most people didn't like having their familys notoriety thrown in their face, and he could tell by her initial expression that she was one of them, naturally enough. However, luckilly, a smile soon grew on her face, and as she took to responding with a story about her brother, and her own feelings on the matter, it was clear enough that whatever ill will there may have been was gone. "Well, as for what we have in common, I always find it easiest to start with what we can tell we don't have in common from simple observation..." Gabriel said, looking at her a warm smile on his lips "Now! 1; We are not the same gender, 2; As we can tell from our earlier statements, we don't belong to the same house, 3; Going by the same logic, we are not the same year, and therefore most likely not the same age. Had we not expressed our years when we introduced ourselves, it could have been deduced from the potions book you have there, which is on the list of required reading when taking a N.E.W.T in potions. 4; You have several siblings, I have none" Gabriel said, following it up with a brief laugh. "Now that we have established that, I think we can safely move on to what we do have in common! 1; We are both pureblood, well, at least of the sorting hat is to be believed. 2; We are both planning on taking a N.E.W.T in Potions, both with designs to become healers, well, in my case, I think I may want to be a healer" He said with a grin "It's the only thing seeming really interesting right now, but who knows what else might pop up along the way, right?" Asteria couldnt help but laugh at Gabriel's list of things they didnt have in common. "So, I have gathered from all of that is this: You are a male. I already knew that and the fact that you are a year behind me. What I dont know about you is which house you are in. You are an only child. Does that ever get boring?" She couldnt imagine being an old child. Her family was so loud and rambunctious that she knew she would be bored without all of them around. Plus, she wouldnt trade her close bond with her sister for anything. Athena was the person she went to for everything. Her mother was always trying to mold her into Athena so Asteria chose to stay away from her at all costs. Of course, she loved her mom but things werent always harmonious between them. "Now that we have established that, I think we can safely move on to what we do have in common! 1; We are both pureblood, well, at least of the sorting hat is to be believed. 2; We are both planning on taking a N.E.W.T in Potions, both with designs to become healers, well, in my case, I think I may want to be a healer. I've finally met someone else who wants to be one too!" She laughed at his last comment. "Well, you may want to make up your mind before making a final decision. It's a lot of work to be a healer and what if you decide at the last minute that it's not what you want to do? All of that work will be wasted!" Asteria couldnt really think of anything worse than having hard work wasted. "About a year ago I was a patient at St. Mungos, which originally gave me the idea. I was helping my younger brother with his duelling practice and he used a spell that he thought was something else and landed me in the hospital for 2 weeks. Fun times. However, it gave me a chance to actually see what healers do all day. It fascinated me." |

At least her laughter seemed to point towards her finding his personality funny, heaven knew, Gabriel knew he was an aquired taste for quite alot of people. "So, I have gathered from all of that is this: You are a male. I already knew that and the fact that you are a year behind me. What I dont know about you is which house you are in. You are an only child. Does that ever get boring?" "I didn't tell you my house?" Gabriel asked, sounding almost surprised with himself. he rarely ever forgot details like that, really one of the first things other students would want to know about you, so they could engage their common stereo-types and compare the person in front of them to it. Then again, he was used to really only be around other ravenclaws, making intruducing his house to them pointless. "Im quite sorry about that, please, allow me to fix that! I am a ravenclaw, if me hanging around in the library and not looking annoyed didn't already reveal that little tidbit." He told her with a grin at the last comment. As for her next comment, now that was actually rather funny. He could very well immagine feeling lonely, if not for his mother being exactly who she was, annoying quirks and all. "I imagine if you ever meet my mother that question would answer itself, she tends to be noise enough for a small circus..." He said with an affectionate laughter, revealing the close knit connection he shared with his mother, despite everything. "You want to be a healer too?! I've finally met someone else who wants to be one too!" She laughed at his last comment. "Well, you may want to make up your mind before making a final decision. It's a lot of work to be a healer and what if you decide at the last minute that it's not what you want to do? All of that work will be wasted!" Comments like these were getting more and more common, especially from the teachers, and it wasn't that Gabriel couldn't see where people were comming from. He was probably the only 6'th year student in ravenclaw who still didn't knew what he wanted to do with his life, nor seemed to interrested in it. Maybe it was his former rather, transitory lifestyle, never staying in one place long, always seeing new and exciting things. He didn't really know, he may just be irresponcible. "Yeah, but you know, I figure studying is never wasted, unless you didn't enjoy the studying itself right? And I'm like, 87.2 percent certain about becoming a healer... Its the only career path thats didn't lose its attraction within a few months, so thats pretty indicative, right? I mean, I have been interested in it ever since I studied in Japan, and saw some of their techniques" |

"I didn't tell you my house? Im quite sorry about that, please, allow me to fix that! I am a ravenclaw, if me hanging around in the library and not looking annoyed didn't already reveal that little tidbit." Asteria had a feeling that he was a Ravenclaw but you just never knew at Hogwarts. She's been around some really nice Slytherins and some not-so-nice Gryffindors. Ravenclaws tended to march to a beat of their own drum. Sometimes she wondered if she should have been one. The Sorting Hat must've been having a bad day when she'd been sorted into Hufflepuff. Asteria just didnt see herself as a true Hufflepuff. Sure, she was nice and all but it just didnt feel right to her. Oh well. Not much she could do about it now. "I had a feeling you were a Ravenclaw but you can never be too sure here at Hogwarts. My family was shocked when they learned I was sorted into the Hufflepuff house. All of them thought I would be a Ravenclaw too." "I imagine if you ever meet my mother that question would answer itself, she tends to be noise enough for a small circus..." Smiling, she replied with, "That must be nice. At least things are always unexpected with your mom. My mother is the most boring person on the planet. Such a creature of habit. Change is like a disease to her. Do you know lucky you are?" Again, she loved her mother but sometimes it was hard to be around her. She just didnt understand that Asteria didnt want to be an Auror like her sister. Nor did she want to go into fashion. No thank you. Asteria would rather help people. "Yeah, but you know, I figure studying is never wasted, unless you didn't enjoy the studying itself right? And I'm like, 87.2 percent certain about becoming a healer... Its the only career path thats didn't lose its attraction within a few months, so thats pretty indicative, right? I mean, I have been interested in it ever since I studied in Japan, and saw some of their techniques." "That's very true. I enjoy studying as long as it's something I'm interested in." She scratched her cheek and closed her Potions book. Homework suddenly seemed not so important at the moment. When Gabriel mentioned Japan, Asteria looked over at him in surprise. "That's so cool that you've been to Japan. What made you study there?" |

Do you know lucky you are?" Gabriel smiled and shrugged slightly at her comment about Asteria's mother. "I think we all grow up to view our mothers as charicatures of who they really are, because they are, well, our mothers and all we get to see of them are very specific traits, prompted by them caring for us... Or maybe thats just me overthinking things. What I am trying to say is that I don't think anyones mom is as bad as their kids make them out to be, you know? I know I have been known to complain constantly about my mother trying to act like my best friend instead of, you know, my mother..." "That's so cool that you've been to Japan. What made you study there?" Gabriel couldn't help but laugh at her question, not because it was all that laughable a question, no, it was more that it awakened certain childhood memories. "Well, thats quite a story... I was pretty much born traveling, as far as I am aware. My mom loved to meet new people, see new things, and given that I am her son, she took me along. We spend the majority of my childhood in the far east, primarily India, Tibet and south east china. When I reached my school age, we were in japan, and so I spend the first few years of my education at their national school." |

I know I have been known to complain constantly about my mother trying to act like my best friend instead of, you know, my mother..." Asteria considered his words for a moment. Maybe there was some truth in what he was saying. For so long she thought her mother was trying to make her into another copy of Athena. Maybe what she was really trying to do was push her to be the best person she could be. Asteria knew her mother had it rough growing up. Her father was always away travelling for business. Even when he was home he seemed to be very distant. Asteria's grandfather was not an easy man to be around. Her grandmother was an ice queen and if you made a mistake around her you could always bet on her remembering it forever. Thinking all of this through caused Asteria to suddenly feel sorry for her mother. Her mom was a beautiful, smart, kind woman who clearly loved her children. She only wanted the best for them. Sighing, Asteria said, "You make a valid point, Gabriel. I always complain about my mother trying to mold me into my sister but maybe she's just trying to push me to be the best I can be." "Well, thats quite a story... I was pretty much born traveling, as far as I am aware. My mom loved to meet new people, see new things, and given that I am her son, she took me along. I went to Greece this past summer with my family and that was the first time I'd been out of the UK. When I become a healer I hope to travel to different countries to help those in medical need." It wasnt something she'd ever thought completely through before but now that the idea was there she couldnt let go of it. Asteria couldnt think of a better way to help people than those who couldnt help themselves. |

"I really love travelling.." Gabriel said with a grin "Then again, given how I was raised, I guess I'd either have to really love it or hate, no space for middle ground when its all you knew from the day you were born till you were 10. Every summer I go somewhere, and for the first time this summer I got to travel a bit on my own. I went to Tasmania for a few weeks before joining my mom in Australia" Gabriel could talk for hours on end about traveling, the cultures he had met, the stories he had learned, the food he had tried. There was no doubt in his mind, no matter what he was going to be doing after school, it had to entail seeing the world, going out there and exploring every little corner of the planet for himself was his greatest ambition. However, it wasn't everyone, really, there was hardly anyone, who could stand listening to him going on forever and ever, something he had finally picked up on after his first few years at the institution. "But yes, there are lots of things to learn out there, especially so for a healer. People have so many different techniques, so many ways of going about healing, there will always be more to see. And there is deffinitly a need for people out there ready and willing to help!" |

Since you've been to so many different places, what's your favorite?" Just talking about this made her want to hurry up and graduate so she could see more of the world. She wished her family would've taken more trips when she was younger but her parents had been paranoid with the Dark Lord in power. They were always afraid one of their children would be taken hostage or something crazy like that. Asteria never really thought that would actually happen but she supposed that threat had been there. So the trip to Greece this past summer was an important step for the Le Fay family. "But yes, there are lots of things to learn out there, especially so for a healer. People have so many different techniques, so many ways of going about healing, there will always be more to see. And there is deffinitly a need for people out there ready and willing to help!" Asteria nodded. "That's so true. Just talking about this is making me wish I could hurry up and graduate. I just feel like I've been living in a fishbowl all my life so perhaps that's why I want be a healer who travels to faraway places. I want to experience everything the world has to offer." Of course, there was Casimir she had to think about. If she was planning all of this she would have to talk to him about it sooner rather than later. This was her life dream and she had every intention of making it happen. However she wasnt sure how he was going to feel about it. |

"You're lucky that you love travelling so much or else I'm sure it would've been very hard for you as a young child. Since you've been to so many different places, what's your favorite?" Gabriel thought about the question for a moment. He never liked ranking experiences, like travels, music pieces or movies into favorites. It seemed like it simplified the experience to much, made it almost too... plain. However, that wasn't something he wanted to start rambling about right now (honestly, enough senseless rambling had already taken place if you asked him), and so, he sought out something sensible to say. "Well, I love just about everywhere I have been, they all have their own unique things to offer, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Japan, just because that being where I spend the most time, also making the most friends there" "That's so true. Just talking about this is making me wish I could hurry up and graduate. I just feel like I've been living in a fishbowl all my life so perhaps that's why I want be a healer who travels to faraway places. I want to experience everything the world has to offer." Gabriel had to admit that he admired her spirit, being isolated throughout their childhood like that would have turned alot of people into egotists or worse, certainly not someone looking to heal other people all over the world. As she spoke however, he couldn't help but notice a subtle shift in her otherwise excited, happy expression, almost as if something was nagging at her, an expression that only got more pronounced as she stopped talking. "I can't help but think that something is bothering you in regards to all this?" He finally said, after a moment of rather awkward silence. |

"Well, I love just about everywhere I have been, they all have their own unique things to offer, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Japan, just because that being where I spend the most time, also making the most friends there." Asteria's never been to Japan but she's heard about some cool things about the country. Perhaps once she became a healer she could travel there. She wasnt sure if she would be able to choose the place she wanted to work but if she could she would go back to Greece. It was her favorite place in the world. Working in America would be cool too. Her parents never had a desire to visit the States so she's never been. Looking at Gabriel now, she nodded. "I imagine it was hard for you to make friends since you travelled so much. However, it's good that you were able to make some friends in Japan. Are you still in contact with any of them?" "I can't help but think that something is bothering you in regards to all this?" She didnt realize that she'd been lost in thought until Gabriel spoke again. Either her face showed her emotions or he was really good at reading people. Clearing her throat, she replied with, "Um...I guess you could say that. My boyfriend, Casimir, doesn't know about my plans after graduation. He graduated last year so I havent seen him as much as I used to." She thought for a moment before she continued. "Honestly, I'm a little afraid of telling him because I dont want my becoming a travelling healer to be the reason we break up." |
